About a year ago, I walked in and asked to get an inspection. The woman looked me up and down and said it's up to the man and called him over. And he gruffly said they don't do inspections. I'm not sure what it was about me that made them not want my business. Drove up Hampton and had a great experience elsewhere. It's a shame. Just for the record, this is my first negative review and it feels terrible to write. However, I'm hopeful that this review will save someone from having an experience as bad as mine. When I initially brought my vehicle into Starkeys for an oil leak I was told that they could fix it for $500.00. Next thing I know and my bill had increased to $1,300+ for a long list of "unexpected, but necessary work". Although I was not happy about the increase, I was very understanding and agreed to pay the amount in exchange for repairs to be made. A few weeks after the "repairs" were made, I noticed my vehicle was leaking oil and it failed inspection for something that Starkeys said they fixed. When I brought my vehicle back in, Starkeys assured me that there was in fact no leak and the repairs had successfully been made. Apparently they could not see the oil dripping from underneath my car? And maybe they couldnt read the failed inspection report that was given to them. Instead of acknowledging their mistake and fixing the issues, they suggested that I take it to a "specialist" because they apparently aren't equipped to fix it. Frustrated and confused, I took my vehicle to the dealership where they confirmed that there is in fact an oil leak and an issue with the oil pressure system. While the dealership offered to fix it, I denied their offer and decided to take it back to Starkeys hopeful that they would right their wrong. "We are just too short handed to deal with this anymore. I'm sorry but you're going to have to take it somewhere else." Said Starkeys Service Center. So now Im out the $$$$ and still dealing with the exact same problem. I do not recommend. Awful experience. read more

This is a super late review, however this experience still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The battery in my Mercedes GLA250 died and I got the car towed here early this year. I knew it wasn't going to be a cheap service obviously but I was charged a very high amount for the labor and battery disposal. They never called to confirm the pricing and when I got there and I asked about the price breakdown (because I was quite surprised) the owner (a woman) said "if you wanted something cheaper you should have bought a Honda" to which I said "that's inappropriate and I don't appreciate that comment, I never said I wouldn't pay I just wanted some explanation". Of course I paid because I needed my car, but I feel they took advantage of me and the situation. This place is wildly unprofessional and I would not recommend this place to anyone. 20 gleaming stars!!!!!! Everyone here is helpful and friendly but they go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable with their work before you leave. I had several things that I've been worried about on my car and I know that if I had gone anywhere else I would have been overcharged for work that wasn't needed. Teresa brought me outside and walked me through the inspection. She answered every question I had, showed me a few things that will keep my car in better shape and brought up issues that may need attention from a different shop to prevent VERY COSTLY problems. The tint on my window was going to keep me from passing inspection and instead of failing me and sending me on my way, she showed me how to do it myself. The next free minute she had, she came over to help me, then she re-inspected, passed me and checked that I had everything else I needed to renew my registration!!! I am sad to report this, but I've had two very NEGATIVE experiences with Starkey's on Davis, and I thought I should do something. I should say first that they did a great job on my wife's Honda's brakes about a year ago; I was pretty excited to have had found a local auto shop that I hoped that I could trust, and I intended to continue to have them service my cars for years to come. So, when my friend's car started to have problems starting, I suggested that he take it to Starkey's. Before we took it in -- having had some experience with auto repair -- I had traced the problem the best I could to the starter solenoid. I took it to Starkey's told them what I thought was wrong, and they said they'd check it out. I was perplexed when they called and said that their "comprehensive computer testing" indicated that the problem was the alternator (generally, an alternator problem will result in a dead battery, which is a problem the car never had). I told them that I thought that was unlikely, but they insisted. I asked if they would guarantee that their fix would solve the problem the car was having, to which they replied "yes". You can probably guess the rest of the story; after a $475 alternator replacement, the car came home and still had the exact same problem. When we took it back, they wanted to charge us again to find the "additional" problem. In the end, they could not find the real problem, and my friend was out $475 for a fix to a problem that the car never had. To this day, my friend's car has the same intermittent starting problem. The next experience was with my daughter's car's A/C. I took it in because it was not blowing cold. They said that it had a freon leak at the filler valve, and charged me to fix it and charge the A/C. Shortly thereafter, the A/C was no longer blowing cold. I took it back to them, and they told me that they'd be charging me $$ to figure out what is wrong. I objected, saying that they had told me that they'd found the leak, repair it, and re-filled the freon, and that if it was not blowing cold they had failed to fix it. A short back-and-forth resulted. I realized during that exchange that I no longer trusted them to repair my cars. I told the lady "never mind", and she said "great", turned her back and walked away. The bottom line is that I have lost trust in their ability to diagnose, repair and stand behind their work. I feel obligated to warn others. I hope this is helpful. read more

I stopped by for a state inspection early on a Monday afternoon. They were busy and asked me to come by later. When I came back late in the day, they were getting ready to close but agreed to inspect my car. They did a thorough inspection, alerted me to worn brake pads, and finished up the inspection. COVID-19 restrictions forced the closure of their office/waiting area so I had to wait outside. When I left, I accidentally left my prescription glasses on the curb where I had been waiting. By the time I realized I had left my glasses behind, the office was closed. I called their number and the store manager answered. She was almost to my house - she saw the glasses and was bringing them to my home. BRINGING THEM TO MY HOME!!! These guys service all of our cars and they are very reliable. They acted like I was doing them a favor, told me after 2 mins of looking at the car it was such and such part and gave me a ridiculous price. Knew I was being ripped off from the moment they started to look at my car when they said the cost was $300. Looked the part up online and saw it was $60 bucks and a few screws. Took my car across the street to TORRES auto and they handled everything like a dream. Nice, professional and fixed my car in the same day. And oh, best part, it was less then half the cost of these guys and it was a totally different ac repair that my Jeep needed. I am very sad to write this review, as we were so hopeful to have found a great, trustworthy shop in our neighborhood. The experience we had with the customer service at Starkey's was beyond disappointing. We had break work done, and upon returning home, realized that we were not handed the tire lock upon completion of service. We called the shop, and the admin lady insisted that the lock was "in the passenger seat" of the vehicle; despite searching for over an hour, we still could not locate the lock. We were told that we could bring the car to the shop for the technicians to look, but that we would be charged for the time spent looking for the piece... we were at a complete loss and needed to locate the lock, so took the car up to the shop for them to look. One of the technicians found it in a completely different area of the car than we were told. Instead of being happy over finding the missing piece (we sure were!) we were basically told 'I told you so.' There was zero acknowledgment that it was found in a completely different area of the car, and we were told not to bring our business to them anymore...that was perhaps the most shocking part! I can't speak to the quality of work yet (as we just got the car back), but the lack of humility and customer care was unlike any I have ever experienced. read more

Being a female, I pretty much expect to be uphold services I don't necessarily need whenever I go to a mechanic. I have never felt this way at Starkey's, they tell you exactly what you need and what it's going to cost. I have gone in for several different reasons ranging from a punctured hose to oil change to inspection to a cracked radiator. I've always received prompt service and the mechanics take time to answer all my questions even when they are busy. I brought my car in because it was overheating. I explained that I had recently has many cooling components replaced and the only thing I didn't replace was the fan clutch. They said they'd replace it for $90, and I agreed. Then I asked if he would be sure, by testing, that the car would not be overheating anymore....and here's where the petulant child had an outburst. I pulled up to this garage today hoping to get a state inspection and oil change. The attendant was directly in front of me and did not acknowledge me until 5 - 10 minutes later. Once he approached me his tone gave off the idea that I (a potential paying customer) had interrupted his day. I continued to ask questions about services. He was extremely rude and condescending with his responses. I decided to not pay for services where I was clearly not welcome or wanted. There are SOOO many shops like this in the area, I drove not even 2 minutes down the street to be treated like a paying customer. Last Thurs 8/22 around 12pm I went to Starkey's thinking I would finally get my broken air condition to work. (it's been a PAIN in this Texas heat as you can imagine!!) Rodney, (the owner) told me a sensor needed to be cleared because it was throwing the computer off, along with a broken coolant fan that needed to be replaced. It would be $275, all services paid. Didn't expect to spend this much at all but fine, makes sense....4pm came time for me to pick up my car, I called to make sure everything was ready, and was told a whopping $65 and "some pennies" was added to my balance due to "plus tax"...wow, ok. ANYTHING TO GET MY AC BLOWING COOL AIR AT THIS POINT. Came in, and something else was wrong with my car! Smh. a new compressor switch was needed, and it would be around another $300 to fix/order the switch and he wouldn't even be able to get to it until the next Mon due to them having a 3 day weekend. What a surprise right??? I opted to buy the piece instead at Auto Zone and asked what his price for labor would be if I provided the compressor switch myself and waited another 3 days. $125 for labor and a nasty attitude because I'm not getting the piece from him. Do all this, for Rodney to walk back to me with my keys, and say VERY rudely, and just plain disrespectful infront of everyone; customers and sheree- the receptionist included, "It still don't work!" Wow. He then Refused to give me ANOTHER "diagnostic" for the another 3 days. I'm honestly shocked. I've heard that mechanics and auto shops try to get over on young women all the time, but Starkeys is supposed to be the "neighborhood" shop and I live not even a mile away. Well after dealing with this shop, I'm beginning to think some people don't know what the he## they're doing. I've been dealing with the same mechanic for years who was honest and these guys are not. I've recently moved to Oak Cliff area and unfortunately am still trying to find the right bars, sushi bars, restaurants (all of which I have found), doctors, dentists, mechanic... etc. I've heard stories of auto repair shops who take advantage of unsuspecting customers, but in order to be a regular customer I would have to return, which I will not. My experience was filled with surprises from the price I was quoted, to the car still having gas fuel problems. My old mechanic who resides in NY stated: "Who replaced the throttle body? I'd take it back and tell them it's not operating properly and ask that they fix it! Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me." I brought it back, still having problems and they're suggesting more work be preformed which means more $$$$. I hate to write a bad review but they leave me no choice. read more
