Still one of my favorite take out options in Ann Arbor. Quality has definitely stayed solid in the last few years since I wrote my previous review and we've definitely relied on them for dinner many, many times since then. I still love the hummus and housemade pita chips but I've added a few plates to my rotation. The crushed lentil soup is a fave and, for my entree, my go to is usually the chicken tawook meal with rice and pita. So good. The chicken is juicy and it usually lasts me two meals. Delicious! Service is SO friendly and helpful. Portions for the entrees are very generous as well. read more

Love the food here. I'm vegan and there are so many options at Star Cafe. The food is well priced and the falafel and mujadara have been really good. The hummus is a good dip as a side or to share. This used to be my go-to for their lentil soup, chicken tawook and gyros, but recently have seen a sharp decline in taste and quality. Today my mother was visiting from out-of-town, and the fist place she wanted to go was Star's. Went in and a place that used to be bustling at lunch time, was empty, which we thought was really odd. Sat down with to a Luke warm bowl of flavorless lentil soup, a browning salad with a mere couple strips of char-broiled chicken, and a chicken tawook. We couldn't even eat it and ended up throwing the majority of it away. Such a bummer. read more

In this time period of staff shortages for restaurants and widely varying standards of PPE usage this place is now my gold standard. Today is the first time I ate here in recent memory and I was pleasantly shocked at the calm demeanor of the cashier, the overall professionalism of the staff (especially the way they all worked together - you can tell a lot about a place by the body language of the staff!), and for me especially the usage of masks and gloves by everyone handling food. I didn't see a single pair of nose holes poking out the top of any masks! (Amazing what becomes important in life.) All that aside, their food is delicious and comforting, if a little greasy. The prices are very good for what you get - also something you can't take for granted in this during-pandemic economy. Will definitely eat here again, bring my family, and strongly recommend to friends and coworkers. read more

Have never had a bad experience or been disappointed by their food. One of the best falafel wraps I've had in Ann Arbor. They hook it up on the pickles and garlic sauce. Love this place.  Every visit, the great food is always consistently delicious.  The Crushed Lentil soup is a must (especially on a cold day). Try it with a squeeze of lemon  With a bowl of soup, I have only the room to handle a sandwich.  My favorite is the Chicken Tawook: Charbroiled chicken, tomato,  pickles, lettuce and garlic sauce. This is a great place! Consistently great tasting and fresh food, serviced with top notch customer service. They could actually handle moving to a larger space. They have some of the best Mediterranean food around. The lentil soup is always hot and fresh. My favorite is the spicy grape leaf sandwich. They have a few tables but do a large carry out business. Ann Arbor, like much of southeast Michigan, is blessed with a good number of Middle Eastern restaurants. In my opinion this is the best one in A2. Their falafel in and of itself is not to be missed - their falafel deluxe sandwich is the PERFECT falafel sandwich. I would also recommend any of their chicken sandwiches (don't sleep on the spicy rice chicken sandwich) and their gyros. If you're in the mood for a salad the Greek with gyro meat is tops. The atmosphere is casual and pleasant, and the staff is very nice. Great lunch spot in particular! read more

I happened to be on the west side around lunch time, so I stopped into Star's Cafe for the first time to grab a falafel wrap to go. The business was clean, attractive, and compact inside. It was early afternoon, but there was still a steady stream of customers, mostly eating in at the tidy tables. My Lebanese-style falafel came out in about 15 minutes, behind a stack of other orders that were submitted just as I arrived. The pita used was on the thinner side and quite large in diameter. The falafel patties themselves were very flavorful and tender. Accompaniments included hummus, tabbouli (lots of fresh parsley on view), garlic sauce, pickles, and tomatoes. Overall, the taste was great - not salty, with a good balance of the flavors you'd want to see. The sandwich was not too wet and not too dry. It held together well, so was a terrific grab-n-go lunch. The price was pretty painless, too! While I don't often find myself in that part of town at lunchtime, I'll definitely keep Star's on my list of excellent places to grab lunch! read more

I got the gyro, chicken gyro, and tabbouli - top of the show was the gyro. I will say, I am new to tabbouli and it was interesting but I really don't know what is right. Chicken gyro was ok. It was a 25 mile drive for supper and I will be back for gyros when the craving hits. read more

We did carry out the other day and I was disappointed with what we got. The Baba Ghannouj was excellent, I would go here just to order this because it is probably the best I have ever had. After this though it was downhill, the crushed lentil soup was alright, not amazing but not terrible. What really threw me off and made me question going again was stars platter for two. I thought alright this looks like a lot of food but when I opened the boxes we did not get much, only two grape leaves, two fried kibbeh and two falafel... alright so its a two person platter and we each only get one of everything to try? The hummus was very good and the rest of the platter (shish tawook, shish kabob, shish kafta) would be a good meal in itself but again splitting it doesn't leave much for you. I guess overall i'm saying for 34.95 I expected a lot more food. The quality was alright, I work in Dearborn so there are some amazing middle eastern places out there, so I would say this place is about middle of the road in taste and quality. I heard the sandwich's are much better so maybe I will give that a chance. read more

I've been going to Star's once a month for the past few years. While most townies fawn over Jerusalem Garden, Star's Cafe quietly serves the best Middle-Eastern food in the county. I always get the chicken deluxe sandwich, which may sound like a McDonald's value meal, but it's really the tastiest sandwich you can get in A2 for less than $6. Just wonderful food at prices lower than other Middle-Eastern establishments. If I could nitpick two things about Star's it'd be their limited hours and their inability to take custom orders (Seriously, try asking to remove an ingredient. It won't happen.) Aside from those little things, Star's is a wonderful, unassuming joint. read more

Based on the yelp reviews, I think I might have gone when they had an off day. I had high hopes given the reviews but alas, wasn't what I wS hoping for. Food: had a chicken entree, gyro, and beef Schwarma with chicken lemon rice soup. Everything was super salty..even for me who usually likes salty. The rice was good, as was the chicken but both the gyro and schwarma were dry and quite salty. The soup was ok but also on the aggressively seasoned side. Service: was to go but friendly Ambiance: could probably use a little work. I think another review described it as divey but not charming divey. Value: not too expensive - if the food had been better would have definitely been reasonable value. Bottom line: despite the friendly service and other reviews, I had a relatively poor experience primarily because the food was generally either too salty or too dry. Nonetheless, everyone can have an off day so don't let my one review sway you too much if you're in the mood for middle eastern food. read more

The gentleman at the register was very peasant and friendly. We ordered a falafel plate and gyro sandwich. The meat was moist and delicious. 2 of the 3 falafels were AMAZING. BUT the toast of the town was the salad dressing. I had to ask him what was in it to try and replicate but there are "13 spices" in it. THIRTEEN!!! Totally worth going.
