This is my favorite breakfast place to go to in Oside. I always take my family here whenever I have a chance. The people here are amazing, they always greet you with a smile and a great attitude. They make the visit extremely special and welcoming. The food is the best! My favorite plate is the Lowrider breakfast plate, it is always made with perfection and fresh ingredients. Had the cinnamon roll, California eggs Benedict and cofffee. Waitress was really sweet and attentive. Egg's Benedict we're just ok would have been great had they not been drowned in sauce which was good but a little to thick. Served with fresh fruit which some pieces tasted of mold. Coffee was good. Cinnamon roll was good but warmed in microwave so cooled hard and topped with butter substitute. Overall I like supporting local business but don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon. read more

Outstanding in every respect ! Food, service, and friendliness were all first rate. I ate here 6 or 7 times on a three-week vacation. It was the best breakfast in Oceanside. I tried everything from the sweet stuff (blueberry pancakes, strawberry waffles) to breakfast burritos and biscuits and gravy - all excellent. Service is friendly and fabulous. When you place your order, the food arrives in five minutes or less. I was biased a little bit by having a gorgeous waitress. As we walked in, the nice Veteran was very kind and helpful. As my cousins and I were waiting for our seat, I talked about how they had pies and he told us a little story about who makes the pies and how delicious they are. Pretty decent little place for breakfast. I've stopped in here a few times and while it's about a 15-20 min drive from home, it's a nice a beach/coastal drive so I don't mind. Tables inside and out plus a counter gives you lots of options where to sit. The service is quick, friendly and everything is made to order. They have a terrific cinnamon roll which is HUGE so beware, have someone to share it with or plan on taking some home. The portions here are good and I have not had anything I did not enjoy. Everyone here is so friendly and the food is great. It's a good old fashioned feel. So far my favorite thing is the Belgium waffle, obviously made fresh. And the OJ must be fresh, so good. My friend enjoyed the mimosas. Salsa is homemade. Looking forward to trying the specials. Today every table, booth & bar seat were full and that's common. Yum yummy yummiest. This is a great diner/breakfast/brunch cafe lost among the trendy tap houses, fusion foods and new oceanside fancy. Classic omelets, breakfast burritos, chilaquiles, waffles, burgers and a plethora of pies. The place is SPOTLESS, even an hour before closing. They follow CDC masking and distancing rules. Staff are attentive, food served hot, fresh, delicious. Best local diner without the line. We will be making it a regular destination, not only because of their food, but because of their safety protocols. read more

My number one cafe spot to go to since I moved here 6 years ago. Quality never stops. They have a secret menu items on the board/ in the decor if you look closely... not listed on their main menu. We have lived in Oceanside for 6 years, but are up in the North end by the base, so we don't often get this far down for breakfast. We will be making the drive much more often now! We called ahead to see if they do call ahead seating, which they don't, but they said they weren't too busy. I also asked if we could bring our dogs, and they said they had a dog-friendly patio (a huge plus for us). When we arrived, not only were we able to get a seat right away, but they gave us the choice of two tables on the patio, since they saw we had a stroller for our senior dog and wanted to make sure we had the space we needed. The staff is SO nice. We had the BEST service! Everyone was so attentive and sweet to the dogs, ensuring they had water and taking an order of scrambled eggs for them without question. It was also so lovely having the owner come and check on us a couple of times and was so genuine with conversation. They are the kind of people that make you feel like you're the most important customer that day. My husband ordered the Iris's Stuffed Hashbrowns, which he said were incredible, and the portion was huge! I had the California Benedict, which was delicious! My husband and I said we both got the best-cooked eggs we've ever had (I'm an egg snob, and the eggs were perfectly poached)! There was just the right amount of hollandaise, and I ordered it with fresh fruit, which came in a generous portion. We can't wait to go back and try different things. Mid work week, 9:30AM, and the place was jumping. There was a steady flow of people during our meal that did not cease. There seemed to be a mix of regulars and newbies like us. Good mix. Here's what sold me: 1. Biscuits are made from scratch and baked throughout the day. 2. Their patty sausages are also made from scratch and pressed on the grill. 3. The gravy doesn't come from a packet. Yup, scratch made, too. Done. Done. And done. Needless to say, I had the biscuit and gravy plate with hashbrowns and two eggs, over easy. My husband had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs. We were both pleased with our selections; however, I did feel like the gravy was missing something, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Milk gravy doesn't require much, so I don't know what happened there. The staff was polite and attentive. I guzzle water like no ones business and our waitress kept up. Score one for her! We like to try new breakfast spots; Start Fresh was a nice find. I don't know that we'll be back. There weren't items on the menu that stuck out or we want to return to try. The food here is delicious and yummy always freshly made the owners and workers are really sweet and nice the service is always great! Everyone here is so nice, welcoming, and attentive. Great service, great attitude, if you want diner food that's of higher than average diner food quality, I highly recommend brunching here. Really a community vibe. I only ever order two things here, the champion burger or the California omelette. They are exactly the same every time I order, and always delicious. Foods always ready quick. Since I moved to Oceanside I've been walking here several times a month and not once has the wait time for a pick up been more than 15-20 minutes. The price point is a higher than most breakfast places but Start Fresh delivers, good value, tasty food and large portions. Lately, I've been seeing quite a few Mexican restaurants offering chilaquiles... 'Which I've never had. What are chilaquiles? Traditionally, corn tortillas cut in quarters & fried is the basis of the dish. Green, red salsa, or mole, is poured over the crispy tortilla triangles, called "totopos." The mixture is then simmered until the tortillas soften. Eggs (scrambled/fried) and pulled chicken may be added. The dish is topped with cheese (typically queso fresco) and/or sour cream, served with refried beans. Like many dishes, regional and the chef's personal preferences can result in variations of the same dish. Chilaquiles are generally eaten for breakfast or brunch; popular recipe to use leftover tortillas and salsas. We didn't have to wait in a line to be seated even though we were "walk-ins" around 11am on a Sunday. Menu had so many brunch/breakfast items to choose from! Food and service were great. While visiting the area the area we found this small diner just up the road from the RV park we are staying at for the weekend. The food was so delicious and service good we went back on Sunday! It was a little later and busier on Sunday so we sat in the covered area outside, it was very nice. The host was very friendly. It took a little while to get our order in on Sunday in but the food arrived timely and the coffee kept coming. Lovely place with good food on both days. We would definitely come back. read more

Then make sure to check out the selection of freshly baked pies. The price is comparable to any of the other breakfast and lunch dinners available in the area. It has recently been brought to my attention via Yelp HQ that my review may not meet the "guidelines". I was asked to review and edit and remove any biased comments. That being said I will update my review. At our last visit we were served cold food and an entire entre was missing. Also the hostess decided on his own without asking permission to tap my grandsons head face and shoulder. Not knowing how many other children he's touched no hand sanitizer in sight I was concerned for my grandsons safety my family and others. We were guests not a part of their family. He had no business touching anyone especially without permission. We sat on the patio next to another family that brought their dog. Very hairy shedding dog. Dinning with a dog that needed a bath and was shedding everywhere not to mention being served cold and missing food on top of my family's space being violated led to a conclusion we won't be revisiting this restaurant. read more

The food is shit. Not sorry. The customer service is shit as well. They also add the gratitude on your check with out letting you know first. There checks are also just a bunch of numbers with no names next to them so you DEFINITELY don't know what prices go to what and what they charge you for. Their menus are messy and ugly and have no calories on there next to the foods. Literally just food and price. It's messy. This place it ugly and terrible.
