We have been to the Delta location a few years ago. Then we were searching Yelp for breakfast in Paonia and this location popped up. Color us happy because that solidified our breakfast plans. The line was to the door over memorial Day weekend. The hostess had zero hustle and seemed mystified about how the front of the house was supposed to work. When it was our turn, we got a fun waiter dressed in crayola socks and a pretty frilly apron that led us to our table. He gave off a Ryan Reynolds type of vibe and it really set a great tone. Our waitress was Busy with a capital B. The menu had great suggestions, favorites and regional dishes. Husby went with chicken fried steak and eggs. I tried crispy hashbrowns with green chili and the did the OTB- IFYKYK. The sides could be a biscuit, toast, pancakes or a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was a monster and big enough to feed a family. It was tasty and filled us up literally until the next day. I stood in the Lobby for about 5 minutes, 3 times the waitress walked right in front of me, with no sign of even acknowledging I was there, I had to go to the kitchen and ask for service, this is what kind of service I would expect during peak hours , not at 1:30 in the afternoon. The restaurant was not busy at all. When I when I was told the total I thought maybe the prices had gone up. Anyways, got home, sat down to eat and discovered why the price was higher. I ordered two orders of Biscuits and Gravy, I got 2 orders of Sausage Biscuits and Gravy, okay that we could have handled, it was the drownbing of black pepper that just topped off our Arvin's negative experience. The Bean and I had a business brunch here for 408Works and 6ixes. I had a massive plate of biscuits and gravy that was delish!!! The service here was top notch too as the hostess was super accommodating with my gimp leg and crutches and sat with a private table by the kitchen. They greet everyone and the staff has been here for years. They get a large number of locals. I came after the morning rush for people wanting to get on the hwy asap. The after church rush is coming. It's a homey atmosphere with stuffed wild animals, wood pillars and wood beams, panels and chairs throughout. They have a large breakfast menu including omelets, pancakes/waffles anx lots of meat choice. Coffee is included in the prices with infinite refills. I got the Spicy Hog omelet with ham, sausage, 3 eggs and was over stuffed with jalapeno peppers. I added a local hot sauce, Pear Blossom Farms: Dad's Peach Jalapeno Sauce made nearby in Palisade,CO to my omelet. I got a good amount of hash browns where I added more hot sauce. I ordered a cinnamon roll in lieu of toast but had to wait for it to arrive. They have a high demand for the treat. When it arrived, it was a plate filling serving. Plenty of cinnamon throughout and lightly glazed. Of course, I ate the whole thing, with more coffee. I forgot to mention that my server at the bar was Jocelyn C. She was very friendly and attentive. For diner food it wasn't totally terrible. My son enjoyed his blt very much though I thought the bread was a bit overdone. My burger bun was soft and tasty. I asked for medium rate and I got very well done, just a dash over the burnt mark. The bacon, cheese, sautéed onions and the mustard I added had enough flavor to nearly hide the burnt taste which made it edible. We had visited location in Montrose, CO a few years ago. When our vacation took us to Grand Junction we tried the Clifton, CO location. It did not disappoint. Staff was super friendly and attentive. We were riding motorcycles and they had very good local info. Service was quick. The breakfast was great. All cooked just right. I am a big fan of their green chili. I think it pairs perfectly with eggs. I highly recommend. The unexpected treat is the jelly with the toast. Not a little plastic tray of factory sealed stuff. I don't know if it is home made, but it sure tasted like it. We had the peach and raspberry and both were delicious. I highly recommend Starvin' Arvin's and will be back for sure. read more

Stopped in Clifton for gas on my way to Utah. Found Starvin' Arvin's nearby so gave it a try. Although the outside of the restaurant said something about steak, there were no real steaks on the menu, only burgers. I ended up ordering a hot beef sandwich which is kind of an old school diner food that I have not had for ages. The side salad was very decent in size although the romaine kind of wilted a little. The sliced beef was okay, average diner quality, the fries were crispy and I like to put gravy on my fries which in this case was not too salty which was good. This is a solid choice in Grand Junction! My party all enjoyed what they got. I had the French toast special and it was a good value. All good food. The cinnamon roll is giant but to be honest I didn't think it tasted much like a cinnamon roll. Just kind of like bread- wouldn't get it again. Will not eat or recommend this place ever agin. We usually get the breakfast burritos from the drive threw but the last few times we've gone theve been real greasy. To ware the tortilla was soggy. So we figured we would go in to eat a better meal. I ordered the breakfast burrito with green chilli. That was great. My wife ordered the 3 eggs and 3 pieces of bacon. The eggs cost us 6 dollers and the bacon was 3 dollers per piece of bacon. My first thought was they must of flew the bacon in. All im saying is over priced meal for what she got. It may have good food, I'll never know. The staff was a mix of happy/cheery and doh!/dipsey blond. I was greeted by a cheery host who sat me in the doh! server's section. She asked for my drink order and returned. I asked her about the menus since I thought she was also my server (drink) and she really didn't know. Another server came by and took great time explaining their food. Very good. Since I really do not like egg tacos (that some people call omelettes) I asked if they could integrate the ingredients into a "omelette station" type omelette. He said no problem. So far, excited to eat there. Then I noticed I was in Doh!'s section and asked to move. Cheery girl said sure. I moved to a section lighter and brighter and closer to the door. The server in that section turned out to be very rude. I asked if this table was OK and she, with snottiness, asked me "Where were you sat?" I told her the story and she was forced to accept. Obviously didn't want to. "Do you want food?", her next words. I tried very hard to explain about omelettes and one way being cooked as an egg taco, and the other way being integrated. She didn't want to listen, wasn't interested in the differences, and had no willingness to ask a cook or someone else if they could accomplish. I said, you know? Like at an omelette station. "I've never been to an omelette station." Well, she's probably in her late 40s, so I find that hard to believe. So I just settled for something I didn't want. It started to bug me, so I looked in my wallet to see if I had anything that would cover the drink. A soft drink. All I had were 20s. So I threw one on the table and walked out. I had a $20 Coke because I didn't want to mess with her attitude anymore. Remember, I asked if I could move and was told it was OK. Had breakfast here twice. Had the hobo supreme(?) the first day, it came with a side of pancakes. The pancakes alone is a breakfast for most people, and they are very, very good. Even the gluten free ones my friend had was very good. Second day, I had the steak omlette. Very good, and the waiter brought a palisade peach based hot sauce which is local to the area, very good recommendation. This steak omlette came with pancakes as well. You should really do like a 40 mile bike ride before coming here. I didn't and it pretty much screwed up the first 2-3 hours of my day afterwards due to the food coma. Unsure why this place has mixed reviews, the food was STELLAR! Service was great too. I wanted to get a little bit of the local town flavor when I was in GJ for a weekend and I was not disappointed. They have the largest cinnamon rolls I've ever seen just smothered with cream. We had to get one and it was super delicious! (me and my two friends split it and it was gone within a matter of seconds). I also had a breakfast dish with hash browns, eggs, bacon, green chile, and scrambled eggs. It was to die for! Pretty darned good. From a lot of the reviews, I wasn't expecting much. But, my breakfast was inexpensive and quite good. For $5.29, I had 2 eggs (scrambled), 2 sausage patties (thin but flavorful), toast with homemade peach jam, and hash browns (nicely crunchy). The eggs are scrambled "diner style" (my term) - poured out on a flat top and then sort of folded over and chopped up. That is, to me, not as good as when they are done in a skillet - but they were fine. The potatoes were quite good - very crisp on the outside and tender inside. I did need to salt and pepper them. And the sausage was very generous and great flavor! I loved that I had a choice of homemade jams. Since we are in peach country, that is the flavor I went with. Good stuff. I was staring at a cinnamon roll poster through the meal, so I got one to go for my mother in law. To say it was huge is an understatement - it filled an entire large to-go container. And drenched in icing. My mother in law said it was amazingly delicious. I had nice service. The waitresses all seemed a little like I would imagine diner waitress in the 50's would have been. They knew all the regulars and joshed with them. But - that didn't keep them from being professional and friendly with the strangers, like me. Kept the coffee filled, checked in on me and made sure I was happy. I am now a fan! PS - the next table could not stop going on about how wonderful the green biscuit is. The Tabasco sauce was watered down, the coffee was not good, and even the soap in the bathroom was watered down as well. My family and I will not be returning to this location. I loved it I mean absolutely loved it. I had the bacon gouda gourmet grilled cheese meal with a biscuit, Mac and cheese, and a pineapple lemonade. The grilled cheese was perfectly seasoned and crafted with perfection the bacon and gouda was a delicious combination. The Mac and cheese as you could imagine was banging, so was the biscuit. The pineapple lemonade was amazing and refreshing. I can't wait to try more of this restaurant and I would recommend it. I tried the Green Supreme on a recommendation from my Mother. She made it sound soo good, I didn't even bother to read the menu. Fresh monster sweet rolls came out as a side, but could have easily filled a growing teenager or three senior citizens, or a small African country. (See my pic). The Green Supreme, as it turns out, is a layered pile of AMAZING. At the base was a generous portion of fresh cut hash browns, topped with layers of egg, cheese, more hash browns. Next, a was a ginormous amount of green chili, with deliciously tender chunks of pork. This was all topped off with easily half a cup of shredded cheddar. As others in our rather large party were complaining amongst themselves about the HUGE portions of everything, I downed all of mine with a huge grin. Service was very efficient, decor was rustic-ish. Enjoyed breakfast here Saturday morning on our way to the Peach Festival in Palisade. The food was reasonably priced, portions were generous and we were 100% satisfied. But I really need to highlight our server Maria. I dont think I've ever had better service anywhere than from her. She was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. She checked on us multiple times, brought everything we asked for quickly, answered questions, and was overall an amazing asset to Starvin Arvins. Dont know if she or her supervisors will ever see this but it's worth mentioning. People are very quick to complain or point out what went wrong but out visit was so positive that I needed to acknowledge Starvin Arvins and Maria in particular. read more
