I live here in Surprise and have eaten at 48 several times and was always pleased with the food and beer selection. The food is a little on the expensive side but the portions were always very large so definitely I was a great fan of the fish and chips the best I had in AZ but I took a buddy of mine there as I bragged about how good the fish and chips were but when we got the order it was half the food and the fish was overcooked and the fries were cold but still the same price very disappointing that management has cut quality and portion of food received we probably will have to find out if the other locations are doing this if so then I would pass on the food and just go for drinks read more

Sat at bar with my date and waited and waited to be greeted and/or offered something to drink. Only one bartender on duty and not really that busy. Wanted extra ice for my long awaited iced tea but couldn't get her to get it after asking twice so I finally got a busboy to get me some. My date's chicken sandwich was cold when it should have been hot. I had the tomato bisque and it was hot and very good. I also had a grilled cheese sandwich that was ice cold too. We went yesterday for lunch. Seated right away. Our server was Bre. She was fantastic. Very friendly and attentive. Ordered pretzels as appetizer, very good. My daughter had the grilled cheese and fries and really enjoyed. I had the meatloaf melt Sandwich it was good except for the meatloaf bread ratio. I would say half the sandwich was just bread. Unfortunate because the meatloaf was very good. We will be back again. read more

First of all, I do not care about the brewery. Whatever floats your boat. Evidently, 2 guys in a garage think they can make better beer than people who have served millions for hundreds of years. The food at this place is a minefield. If you like hamburgers, pizza or fish you may be all right. I also have it on good authority the meatloaf is eatable. Have ordered the fish and prime rib sandwiches. The fish is good beef is horrible. The few pieces I was given were dry and tasteless. Their idea of peppers and onions is a piece of pepper and a piece of onion. To make their beef sandwich totally uneatable they leave it under the warming light so long that the edges of the beef sticking out from underneath their horrible bun resembles jerky. Now even the worst part. The same bun for the fish and beef sandwich is so dense that on its own made the sandwich horrible to eat. Whoever thought these buns were a good idea has no taste buds. Been here a couple of times now. Both visits have been decent. First time I was there, I had the hot Italian, This sandwich was fantastic, loved the combination of flavors, the pizza dough as the bread was a great idea. Sandwich is hearty and filling. Second visit I had the schnitzel sandwich, it was good, I was expecting better, but it was good enough to eat the whole sandwich. Kids love their cheese pizza, and chicken fingers. Not a fan of their mac and cheese. It's nice to have a non franchise restaurant in the area. Place is owned by the same owners of Angela's in Sun City Grand, another great place to eat. read more

This place has okay food. The hostess was a total bitc* when we checked in. 50 minute wait no texting or anything so you have to hang around. Lots of fun when it's almost 100 degrees outside. I was so excited when a good brewery finally came to the Surprise area, and State 48 doesn't disappoint! My boyfriend and I have tried a lot of their beers, and so far we have liked them all! It's nice that their menu isn't taken over by IPAs too, they have a really good variety. The food here is great as well, I've tried their spring salad, turkey reuben, and wings, and loved them all. My boyfriend got the totchos today, they were a little soggy but still pretty good! The only thing I really haven't liked are the fish and chips, they're always really salty. The staff is always very friendly, and it's a fun atmosphere so I definitely recommend coming here if you're in the west valley :) if the parking lot seems full, it's still worth going inside because there's never too long of a wait. First time here.. Sat outside on the patio. The food and beer was good. Server was very nice and helpful. The only thing is mask use is virtually no existent here. None of the staff wears a mask . Was not impressed. Went for a large gathering with co workers- got a back room pre arranged. We were not all coming or going at the same time so it wasn't like we were all bombarding the staff or kitchen at once. I Ordered an old fashioned which tasted horrible and watered down. The pretzel and beer cheese was good. Then Ordered a tuna steak asking for no asparagus. Asked for a bake potato instead of fries but told they didn't have potatoes- ok fine. Waited about 45 minutes for food to come- when it finally came i the plate had the asparagus on it, waitress told me to eat around it. One look at the fish and I immediately knew that was a mistake ordering it. Dried and looked like a turd. I tried one bite - WAY too much seasoning, sucked the moisture from out of my mouth. I ended up eating 1/2 my fries and a bit of my wife's steak sandwich which was at least eatable. Service sucked! Not once was I asked how my meal or drink was. Others at our table didn't fair much better. One family ordered a pizza, but they didn't bring any plates - so one of us went and found a stack of salad plates from a hostess stand. Wrong orders, raw hamburger that had to be sent back (was asked to be medium well but was still mooing) - drink mix ups, really just a nightmare and no awareness of the bad service from the staff. Very disappointed and I doubt we'll be back. A shame as I had higher hopes for the place. read more

Oh boy! Where do I start.... absolutely horrible service! Yes, the food was good, not great, that's the ONLY reason for 2 stars. Our waitress was horrible! The music was so loud you have to yell just to have a conversation with each other. The food took well over an hour to get to us, my adult son was done eating by the time they finally brought out my 1 yr old grandsons chicken tenders. Being new to the restaurant, Lana Blanchard was our server. She was so welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu offerings and made recommendations on items to consider. Not a good experience tonight! Service was very slow! My soup was cold and my husband's wings were terrible. Asked for extra wing bbq sauce and it came after wings were half gone ( too horrible to eat them all). Still charged for it. The one in old town that shut down was better. Took mom here for dinner and excited to see this one in her hood! Hubby got the turkey Rueben, it was ok, a bit dry. His fries were just warm, didn't seem fresh. Mom said fish tacos were good. Waitress told us her name 4 times but forgot to put my order or my hubby's salad in. They both got their meals nearly 10 mins before my pizza (which was supposed to 5 mins to bake in their 700 degree oven). Nice atmosphere. Went there for lunch for our first visit and the food was great! My steak salad was cooked to perfection (really) and my dates chicken wrap was fresh and very flavorful! Both plates were seriously good! But the highlight of the meal was our crazy good service provided to us by Jennifer. Her consistent attention, charm and professionalism was that of what you would expect to receive at a 5-start restaurant. You guys have someone special on your staff. Great job Jennifer!! We really needed a brewery in Surprise, so I was thrilled when State 48 opened. I have been several times in the last year and a half and always had fairly good meals and brews (Sound of Freedom IPA and Big Stick Double IPA are my go-to beers). The food overall is average, nothing too amazing. Best items are the pizzas; worst are the salads (lettuce always seems old and wilting). I went for an early happy hour around 4:30 yesterday, and was shocked at how loud the music was in the dining room (the south side of the restaurant). My friends and I were seated in a booth and practically had to yell to converse. We asked if the music could be turned down a bit and fortunately it was. Not sure why management thinks the music needs to be so loud; this has not been an issue during past visits. read more

Had occasion to meet friends here last night. We arrived at 6:30 and were seated right away. The restaurant was busy but, we had no problem getting a table and the one next to us was also empty. After sitting for almost 15 minutes without anyone coming by to even acknowledge we were there, I took our party of 4's drink order and went to the bar. Another party was being seated at the table next to us that had been empty. When I placed our drink order, an employee standing by the bar asked where we were sitting and I pointed it out. When I looked over there was a waiter taking a drink order from the table next to ours. Because I ordered from the bar I had to pay right there, they would not make any accommodation​ to put it on our tables bill. When I returned to the table (making 2 trips with drinks) I saw the waiter who had finally gotten to our table and took the others orders and he asked what I wanted to eat. I ordered the Beyond Burger with lettuce, tomato, and onion and added jalapeno peppers and pickles and the house chips. The others at our table had asked for 2 separate​ checks About 30 minutes later our orders arrived. My burger had no pickles. Then I had to flag the waiter down again to get another beer. I must say that the burger was cooked the best I have had there. Normally they cook the Beyond Burger like it is meat. This time it was perfect and was the high point of the evening. My chips were overcooked​ which seems to be the norm there over the last 2 -3 times we have been there. When the check came it was one check, ​not the separate checks we had asked for. We had to flag the waiter down once again to bring separate​ checks. After waiting 10 minutes for him to return to pick up the checks I went to the front desk and asked to pay there. They said they could not do it and I then asked for the manager. The hostess went to get the manager she came back with the manager and our waiter who took the bills to run the cards and took them to the table. I told the manager what had happened and explained this was not our usual experience with State 48. He asked if we wanted a dessert (thanks but, no we were paying to leave) and that was it. State 48 is better than this. But, if this continues we will have to find another brewery!! read more

This place is good. We started out with Ceviche and it was yummy. I got the Ahi Tuna and it was delish! AND... my husband got the Fried Chicken with Cornbread that was life-changing. Now I know I've said that before but I really don't throw that out Willy Nillly. I could eat just the Cornbread for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the rest of my life. First impressions are what most people would say are kind of a big deal. Every staff member was pretty attentive but the waiter which is baffling considering the place had all of 20 people inside. The beer selection was pretty good and I would recommend the Vanilla Coffee Porter if that suites your taste buds but the food... WOW! 2 entrees at the table were State 48 Burger & Fries and Beer CheeseSteak. The fries were decent but the burger was lacking so much flavor and you would assume you would taste more Siracha in the bacon but that's just my tastebuds. The Beer CheeseSteak was just bad from the sauce to the taste of the meat. Also, when making a cheesesteak use a denser bread or it will fall apart, like it did. Honestly 3 starts for Beer and Most Staff service but stay away from the food unless you want a salad because let's be honest that's hard to screw up. read more

A safe choice if you're looking for a solid beer selection and good food. They have many of their own brews and guest beers on tap, basically every style you'll find something you like. A lot of food options, I went with the hot Italian sandwich. Sandwich was good, fries meh (almost shoestring, just too thin and crunchy for my liking). The setup is different in a good way, decent sized bar and some outdoor seating. Friendly hostess and waitress, but service could use some work. It wasnt busy when I was there, took awhile to get the first round of beers and to place a food order. Worth a trip if you're in the area or simply enjoy checking out AZ breweries. read more

I love the microbrewery trend and have been a fan of State 48 and all they offer. Welcoming and delicious. Choice of local brews is outstanding and they are growing in popularity with other locations but I will stick with Surprise. I had the Brisket sandwich and wife had State 48 burger. My sandwich was so damn good. Thinly sliced, doubled cooked and amazing fried onions and homemade pickles and BBQ sauce were mouthwatering. A purist, I always hold the cheese. The food that was ordered was good. The beer ketchup was terrible, therfore got ranch for the fries. However, they didn't tell us they change for each ranch. Which unfortunately it's disappointing when paying $50 for a meal, they feel like they have to nickle and dime you. Because of the condiments that come with the food are bad or charged for, we probably won't be back. Management responded to a comment I made on Facebook and rather than apologizing and fixing the situation, they made rude comments and made the situation 10x's worse!!
