7 am Saturday. Picked up my daughter arriving on the red eye from LA. Using Yelp how found this place for breakfast on the way home. Packed one waitress. I thought we would never manage to get served. Wow was I wrong. I asked for poached eggs and they were perfect! The loaded hash browns were great and the service with one person managing the whole place was fantastic! The only negative. The coffee is weak and terrible. My family and I used to visit the Stateline Diner for breakfast after church for around a year after moving to Hidden Valley. The food here is excellent and the service can be excellent as well, however this is entirely dependent on the staff currently on shift. Some of the younger motivated servers and cooks seem to be relegated to slower hours while the "tenured" employees get the peak ones. Often we would encounter servers and kitchen staff engaging in the latest community gossip and other chatter while tables needed to be bused and new patrons went unnoticed coming in the door. During these times the food quality and timeliness also suffered. A great local joint has really taken on a poor customer perception because of this. The final straw for us occurred on a day where the temperture was about 85 degrees and it was hot inside the restaurant, as my family was walking in I was the last through the doorway and the person behind the register yelled across the dining room at me "Close the door, you're letting all the cold air out!" in a very snarky tone. This is no way to greet a customer and thankfully there are other diners in the area, so we haven't been back since. read more

My family loves this restaurant. We eat here at least once a month. The food is delicious, you get large portions for a very good price. Their biscuits are huge and the strawberry jam that they make there it's so delicious. I've had a few of their breakfasts and their big Freddy burger, which is their version of a big boy, and I have yet to get a bad meal. I've passed by The State Line Restaurant many times, although I had heard good things about this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but take a chance here. When I walked in for the first time I was immediately greeted with a cheery "Good mornin'." The waitress brought my coffee and chatted for a bit about the rain, how the river was up and roads were closed, glad her apartment was on the second floor, just like I was a frequent customer. The regulars were greeted by name. In fact, when John came in, he was asked, "John, it's Friday, do you want your fish, potatoes and green beans?" "Yep, thanks." She later asked John if that was his van parked by the car with its hood up. "Yep." "Hon, they need a jump-start. Can ya help 'em out before ya leave?" 'Well, I'll help 'em out right now, it'll only take a minute." He got up from his meal to help someone he didn't know and would never see again. A couple walked by my table, made eye contact, and both said "Good mornin'." My review? My breakfast was good and ample, service was great, and the staff and regulars awesome. A "treat people how you want to be treated" kind of place. It's worth visiting if only for that rare experience. read more

I have been coming here since I was a kid but I will never come here again. It was busy but we weren't in a rush so we waited for a table and got our drinks and order taken in just a few minutes. We got a meal to split (the hungry man with a biscuit and extra gravy.) And then we waited. We sat there for at least 30-40 minutes for a food. It was busy so we didn't mind the wait but our food was cold and the order was wrong, but the waitress sat it down sat down our check and walked away. We didn't see her again until it was time to pay. When we paid the bill we told her we needed a take home container and that we never got our biscuit we ordered. She told us that we didn't order it and she would not give it to us. She told us that she was busy and didn't have time for this. She then dropped the lid to our take home cup on the floor and handed it to us. We asked for a new one and she rolled her eyes and said "it's not like it will touch your food " That is disgusting and she is an absolute bitch. There is no other way to put it. I was so upset my hands were shaken. I worked in resurants for 3 years as a server and there is no excuse to act this way to anyone, yet alone customers. I don't care if you don't smile I'm not there for your smile, but rolling your eyes breaking health codes and telling us you are to busy to DO YOUR JOB is not the correct way to act. Besides for how busy it was there sure wasn't a lot of people in the diner. It's not like there was a line going out the door, for the most part the diner had started to empty out when this all happened. read more

Yelp reviews did us wrong this time. Dirty truck stop - NOT a Mayberry atmosphere. The portions were huge but we ordered eggs over medium and they were barely over easy. The others eggs ordered were not done right. The pancakes were fine but, my heavens, it cost us $40 for a family of four and we left over half of our food on the table. Seriously bad. read more

This place was so good we had breakfast twice in our 3 day stay! Everything is delicious and homemade from their biscuits and gravy down to their jelly. There wasn't anything not cooked to perfection! The service is the best you can find anywhere. The servers were so sweet and attentive. Our cups remained full and bellies were too by the time we left. Portion sizes were enormous. Even my husband couldn't finish the Hungry Man dinner. NEVER AGAIN! We had ate here once before and decided to try it again. It was Sunday morning so we expected it to be busy. We waited a while for a table to be cleared. As we waited, we surveyed the restaurant and noticed most people were eating so we thought it should go pretty quickly. WRONG!!! The waitress took our order and never came back. We watched as people who were seated after us received their orders. After nearly an hour we walked out and amazingly that didn't get their attention either. Don't waste your time! We literally received better customer service from a teenager at the McDonalds down the street. Avoid!!!!! read more

I went in for breakfast.. I was told that I couldn't make changes on the breakfast selections. So I ordered ala cart.. then my friends food came first.. My eggs were wrong but decided to eat them anyway. Only to pull a hair out of my eggs..Told the waitress she left came back and showed me the eggs and said the cook wanted me to to find the hair for her..I thought I was being punked..The bill was going to be twelve dollars till I explained the ala cart price of each. still came to 7.85.. I never ate the return order for the eggs... I will never go back.. read more
