I greatly appreciated the service i got at state street your server (Rob) was the best very friendly and sweet and the food was great

11/19 Birthday dinner ordered food to be delivered over the phone. Food came with missing sides. I called back and was told the manager is in a meeting, call back in 15 minutes. Also was told that they couldn't do deliveries over the phone. The Manager Sam said no more delivery, it was 5pm. He also stated that he told the person to take my order over the phone. He offered to drive the sides over himself. Didn't not want to compensate me in no way. Talking about a partial credit after HE messed up my order. I asked for the owners name. He said Phil. When I asked for the last name he hung up on me. VERY rude. Whoever owns this place... Please check the rudeness because that is a problem waiting to happen in person. Very rude. Spoke to Kayla another manager and she attempted to makes things right. She was nice. What I don't understand is how the rep said they can't take orders over the phone anymore for delivery, but the manager Sam told the person to do it. Make it make sense.Then he catches an attitude because he messed up.Sam Messed UP. Its freaking Covid. Who has time to play with money and service? Sad y'all used to be reliable. read more

This is hands down the best place to eat in the area. Server was knowledgeable and staff was friendly. We had an issue with one of our entrees due to lack of communication on our end. The manager Sam I believe his name was was so helpful to make us feel special with in minutes Sam came out with the entree which we originally desired and couldn't ask for a better manager to help us. At approximately 8 pm Saturday , February 25th my girlfriend and I had dinner at your establishment. We entered and we're greeted by no host/hostess. Considering it was a busy night and being understanding people we waited and eventually we were greeted and seated. Once seated we were greeted by our server "Sakis". We asked for water with lemon. After recieving the water, Sakis asked if we were ready to order. We said that we needed some time. Sakis returned to our table about a minute and a half later and said to me "she looks like she's ready to order, what about you" . I responded that I was not ready. We had only been seated for about 4 minutes and he asked for our order 3 times , each time in a sarcastic tone. After ordering the Cali Burger for myself and the Buffalo Chicken Salad for my girlfriend I realized that I had not asked for cheese. I apologized to Sakis for the inconvenience and asked if I could get Swiss Cheese for the California Burger. Sakis then brought two slices of cold Swiss Cheese on a plate and slid it onto the table. I became irrated and to avoid confrontation my girlfriend asked if Sakis could have the cheese warmed on the California Burger. Sakis took the plate and returned with it, placed it on the table then waived his hand in my face in a condescending and provoke manner and said "Hey, enjoy your meal" . Feeling my agitation growing I decided it would be best for my girlfriend and ourselves to remove ourselves from this hostile situation. We asked the assistant manager, whos name is did not get if he could have our food packed to go and remove Sakis from serving us. Sakis yet again returned and seemed to sense our aggravation and asked if we needed anything else we stated "no" , he then asked if we were sure while laughing, we again stated "no". After he asked if we needed help the 3rd time I felt as though he was trying to provoke I reaction , I asked Sakis to leave and not return to our table. The assistant manager brought our containers, we packed our food, PAID and left without any apologies or offer of accommodation from Sakis, or the Assistant Manager. We were stopped outside in the rain by The Manager Vladimir who apologized for the service and made excuses for Sakis demeanor all that Vladmir could offer was that we would be taken care of for our next visit. I am a Law Enforcement Officer that has recommended State Street Grill to many of my fellow co workers and officers in other departments. I have been going to State Street Grill with my significant other since I was 17 years old. I will no longer recommend this establishment and will post this comment on every review website I can find. I have never been more embarrassed , humiliated and belittled in any establishment as I have in State Street Grill. read more

Today was my first time dining here and based on the reviews I expected much better. I partially blame myself for deciding to order a salad at a diner. I ordered a Cobb Salad. The ingredients are pretty standard no matter where you go so I figure there's no way to mess this up. Clearly I was wrong. The salad came in an unnecessary, stale tortilla bowl. After dumping to contents of the salad onto my plate, I found that the ingredients just weren't fresh. The eggs were entirely green inside (rather than yellow) and taste like they were sitting around rotting all day. The bacon bits were hard and burnt so every bite had me spitting them out because it felt like I was chewing on tiny rocks. The chicken was bland. Needless to say, I was unhappy with this meal and when I told our waitress she told me I had to speak to the manager. I Explained to the manager everything I just wrote and he seemed nice about it. The reason I'm even writing the review was because it was not handled properly from there. I worked in the restaurant industry and the common sense thing to do in this situation to resolve the matter is simply take my salad off the bill. Management here was cheap, lacked common sense or a little bit of both. Instead of taking this nasty salad off the bill, when it was time to drop off our check he came back and told me he has to charge me for the labor it took to make the salad. **insert side eye** The manager proceeded to tell me he took off 70% of the salad price. The salad was $12.99 and I was still charged $5.99 for a salad I took 3 bites of. I may not be a mathematician but I'm also not a moron so please don't insult my intelligence... 70% my behind. We also ordered appetizers and another dinner at the table (which was very mediocre might I add), so it wasn't like they weren't getting money out of us. I was also very respectful when speaking with management. Long story short, the food here wasn't good, our complaint was handled poorly, management here was cheap and petty...so I reserve all rights to leave an equally petty poor rating for this establishment and warn other patrons. Went here with some friends last night, and were impressed with the accommodations we received. Very friendly atmosphere, any time of day. The food is above average, but at the same time, I wasn't blown away by it. I got the Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla, which was fairly tasty, but one of my friends had a Chicken Parmagiana Quesadilla, which was inventive, but not executed in the best way. Still, when I'm in Montclair again, I'd be willing to come back. read more

I think state street grill is awesome and fun for kids we had laughs with our cousins and waitresses.

I come here at least twice a month. When I have the time to. The service is always great except for tonight. My waitress just came to check on my table just once. My friend wanted another coke and of course she had to wait 10 minutes for the server to pass by. I was never asked if I wanted a refill of coffee. Only came to my table once and disappeared right after. It might be the night shift people but if the service can get better it'll be great. read more

I was there on 1-27-20 in the evening, the waiter, Kai, was one of the best waiters I've ever had, his friendly attitude was perfect for his position, he had a smile on his face the whole time he served us and was super nice. However, as I was eating my desert, a coconut custard pie, to be exact, I notice that the crust had mold. I called the waiter over, who was extra nice and apologetic, he then called the manager over to show him. The manager, "Yadi", I believe was his name, had the nastiest attitude, arrogant and sarcastic. I pointed out where the mold was, he told me that the mold on it, which was black and gray was part of the dough" then after arguing with me about it, which I found so rude and unprofessional, his response was, IN a VERY sarcastic tone, "you're right you're right, i'm wrong. He did NOT make any effort to make up for it, or even apologize about it. I then told him he should be trained by our waiter, Kai, who was an excellent waiter and had excellent manners and customer service skills. This older guy, who is a MANAGER at this place, whoever he is , I believe his name is "Yadi" or something like that has NO business working in a restaurant 1, if he thinks that MOLD on a crust is part of the dough and 2 with his poor NASTY attitude. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Leaves me thinking, if that's what he does in the front of the restaurant, I can ONLY imagine what he does in the back with moldy food or food that's expired or falls on the floor, he probably makes his workers put it on a plate and serve it to customers. This is a pretty good place to eat. I've been here a few times and the food is always amazing. My favorite things to get are the burgers and wings. The portions are huge too! I always have leftovers to take home. I like to eat over by the counter usually, because it's more private and you're closer to your server if you really need anything. Plus, it's right by the huge dessert counter. Their homemade cheesecake is to die for!! I came in last night and my waitress was Deja. Really great service! She looked genuinely happy to be serving me, as well as the other customers at the counter. I've never had such fast and quality service anywhere. My drink was literally in front of me one minute after she took my drink order down. She even chatted with me for a bit. She was super sweet and attentive. State Street iDiner is our local diner. Needless to say we order frequently from them either to go or to dine in. On this particular rainy Saturday, we were ordering to go and had questions about the seafood combo. During our first call ( notice first call) we asked about the type of fish with the order and the person on the phone was short with us and the phone miraculously hung up! We called back and the phone ( second call) rang and rang and rang. I called back from a different phone and they picked up ( strange right?) I inquired again about the seafood combo and my response was met with dead air and silence.....I was close to not ordering at all but decided to go with something of lesser cost. While picking up my order, I spoke with the manager, Chris. Chris was great. He was apologetic and made sure my order was accurate. He offered us free dessert and was gracious enough that I will be back vs making the trek to Tops. Just beware the folks answering the phone, they may hang up on you and be a little rude. I've been coming here for years, food has always been great but the some of the servers need to actually want to do their jobs. You have to be very specific when ordering because they will give you what they think you want instead of what you order. Also when they walk away from your table you have to almost go into the kitchen to get their attention again or when you see them they are standing or sitting at the counter with their back to you. I came in with friends, who are from out of town, to get some "Jersey food", as they called it. We were blown away by the disco fries, chicken and waffles, and milkshakes. My friends made me take them back two more times before they left town, however to their dismay, the manager Sammy, wasn't working on our last visit. Sammy came over to ask us how our meal was, and when he found out my friends were from out of town, he not only made them feel welcome, but also had us all laughing and feeling like we were eating at home. The wait staff were tremendous also, but Sammy the manager definitely left an impression on my out of town friends just as strong as the disco fries and milkshakes. I'm a frequent customer in this place, it was the first diner I went to after I moved to this area and food has been consistent, with good portions and the servers usually help out if there are any issues. It's not always perfect though, one person who seems like a manager asked if there was something wrong with my food and I mentioned that the BBQ sauce was off. I've had their BBQ sauce in the past and it never felt spicy or liquidy but somehow it didn't taste the same. The guy took it and came back and it was the exact same type of sauce. When I mentioned it to him, he kind of snapped at me saying that there's nothing wrong. I was taken aback with his reaction and felt that there was going to be an argument but fortunately my original server saw everything and took care of the issue, giving me the right BBQ sauce. Now granted, I normally go during the night so maybe the management is different but the clear inconsistency between the day and night can't be ignore which is why I am rating it 4 stars instead of 5 read more

Good morning to whom it may concern. I am going to do this quickly as I am on my way to work. This Monday I dined at state street with my husband and my eight year old daughter for her birthday. Jennifer was our server. We have had several waitresses here and also have had Jennifer a few times as well. I would like to say that she went above and beyond to make our baby girls birthday dinner nothing short of amazing. We often request her because she has always given us the best service out of all the many people who have served us. She always takes time out of her busy evening to interact with our daughter who is special needs. In fact when we are planning to eat here our daughter is super excited and can't wait to see her. It's as if she's family to us. My daughter as I said is special needs so she doesn't interact with many people. My daughter hugs and kisses this young lady as if she's known her her entire life. It brings so much joy to us to know we can dine somewhere where my child feels welcomed loved and cared for. She ensures my daughters food comes out first and always makes special faces on the plate for her with her favorite sauces. I highly recommend anyone that eats here to ask for Jennifer She has been amazing to us and I will forever gladly sit with her even if we have to wait. I ordered from them for delivery . Waited for 2 hours pass the delivery time and no food. The first time I called was an hour after and they said they were sending it right away. The 2nd hour I called in and it sounded to me like they didn't even prepare my food yet. No time frame nothing. Can't comment on the food since I obviously did not get it. read more
