We should warn everyone that goes to the State Street Grill in Bloomfield NJ to look at your bill before you leave or you might find this place adding BS surcharges to your bill. Was there for 2 weeks straight and sunk about $300 plus in meals. You'd think they'd appriciate the business, but the bottom line is that they dont care about you as a customer, they dont care about anyone except stealing your money. So had my meal and found out this physco so called manager female was deliberately spying on our table. She went into the waiteres login and started adding misc charges to our bill without telling us or telling the waiter of what she was doing. It turned out that she was single us out because of our financial background because we made more money than her or State Street Grill combined. So when we confronted the other manager about it, she started yelling from 20 feet away from the cash register last night, saying basically anyone that goes there don't expect to be treated any different then low income scum. Dont expect special treatment in this place despite spending over $300 there. The week before that the same physco bitch came right behind us and started even more slanderous comments, yelling at us. Mind you we never talked to her ever nor said anything about this physco. She brought upon herself to start defermation and slander. The story about this place is there's a history of negative comments on other sites that customer state the service is lousy and the food isnt that great. The fact we would have to agree with is few people that work there want to give you good service, D, A, and N are the only 3 people in there. Both management, the owner, and the servers couldnt care less about you the customer and this idiot manager was just proof of that. Heard constantly every single day for 2 weeks straight from servers about getting stiffed on tables, how they got left $1 on a $50 bill. They think it was the customer and not once thinking it was them. read more

Ever since the original owners bought sold this place less than a year ago the place has been going down hill fast. First you'll notice is that they purposely cut down on the portion sizes to a point you notice them. Every week you find new people there because the General Manager cuts the hours of good employees and puts in these untrained people who have no clue on what they are doing. Example, being this new waitress they hired that they said was related to the GM Vadimere. First off, when a customer is talking to you don't look in the opposite direction and deliberately interrupt them when they are talking, Second, dont stick you fingers physically in the customers plate when you put them down on the table. Third, dont push dishes towards the customers lap to the point they are about to fall ontop of them, just because your too lazy to move a plate to put one down! 2 days in a row we had to send food back because it was brought our wrong or it was stale as xxx. The bottom line is that they food quality is down, the employees are mad, the whole place is so disorganized its not even funny. Get this they are now charging for ice! Desert the whole top was rubber. Took the top off the desert, and purposely dropped it from the table to the floor and guess what it was still in one piece! Been going here forever and we have not complained as much as we have since the own Phil and Valid is running the place. Would have to agree the second that Gus sold the place, this place has been sinking lower and lower in the crap hole. Its all because of the general manager that thinks he can run the place. My sister just came back from this place and he was borderline trying to pick her up. Sleeze bag! The food has gone down hill and what I see face to face, is that the State Street Grill is trying to hide the facts with smoke! They are trying to con the customers that come in here that the place is something great which its not. The food quality has gone down hill. Example, ordered simple ziti with meat sauce, the sauce had such a sour taste to it, you knew that it was different from the original owners and they did everything to cut corners. Parking is a joke as well, there's like 20 spaces max for what a diner has to hold like 70 to 80 spaces for place that size. Still want to park your car to this place, once you get out of your car, you have to hail a taxi just to get their front door. No joke there so called "convient parking" as they put it is over 2 blocks away, and you have to walk down 2 blocks of dimmly lit sidewalks, since if you want to get stalked or mugged. Gus we all wish that you trained NIck so he could run this place, but since the family is gone, State Street Grill should be turned into a soup house! I came to State Street last night with my family and it was great. The food was delicious to start. I had the chili cheese fries and devoured it in a few minutes. The service was the best part though. We had Deja. You can't miss her when you go in! She's the one with the red hair and Pokemon nails. Definitely ask for her to be your server when you dine in. It was a busy Friday night and she had four or five other big tables including mine, which had seven of us. Most times when I go out and it's busy I expect really slow service and things end up being forgotten. But Deja was awesome. She immediately greeted us and got us our drinks. When the food came out she didn't forget a single sauce or anything else we asked for. She even kept checking on us and talking to us. She made us feel like family. She's so sweet and adorable! And she still took care of every other table. I can't stress this enough because I've had service problems before there and it turned me off. But she gave me hope in the service and I'm glad because the food is good and I like the atmosphere. From now on I'll be asking for her and I advise everyone else to do the same. This review is about the recent management. The food here is good, the service here is hit or miss depending on who you have. Our biggest complaint is management and the person who manages this place. We been here this week about 2 or 3 times, every single time we've been here, there always a series of complaints from customers about this person. I think this managers name was Spiro or something sounding like this. First time we were here, there was a party of about 12 people (African American), mind you more than 1/2 the customers in this place AA. We immediately turned around to see this manager being talked to in a loud voice by at least 2 customers who were AA. We overheard one of the customers go, "how dare he make a comment or reflection that I was in a jail." Another time, we hear about 2 different customers come up to him and complain about something, don't know what it was. So we go up to the girl and say whats going on, she said this is the way this guy is, and he fired someone just because she did her job, and didn't (then she paused) raising her eye brows, commenting on "you know". So all in all, that was the last straw, we paid our bill walked out the door, and for now on going to another diner to spend our money. read more

I have been going to the State Street Grill regularly for years, sometimes twice a day. The food is always fresh and the breakfast and lunch specials are great bang for the buck. Upon reading some reviews on this establishment, I am inclined to believe that some people are overly demanding, especially since there are busier times than others as in most restaurants. The servers deal with a multitude of diverse personalities and have to be commended for their patience. Although I am happy with most servers, I do have my favorites, among them, foremost is Melanie, who always knows how I like my order without the slow, repetitive rhetoric, and brings the food out quickly and hot, Also, I need to commend the bus boys Louie and Berto, often overlooked but nonetheless relevant, who always have ice water with lemon ready for me at my table. It is greatly appreciated to be so respected. Kudos to all of you, and good luck to the charming owner, Phil, who brings a certain presence and kind conversation. Well done. read more

I have to agree with the 6/2011 review that the person complained about the roaches. I sware no joke. Last night I had ordered a dinner and the second I put salad dressing on the salad, a bug jumped out of the salad and ran across the table. No Joke! Looked under the table and saw garbage all over the floor. They said it was the first time it ever happened, but I searly doubt it. In addition, there's another post about how they nickle and dime you for everything, its true. State Street Grill had the gawl to (1) charge me for the meal despite having bugs fly out of the food and (2) asked me repeatedly if I wanted the food to go! If it wasnt for my company to get one of their employees to work for us, Id steer clear away from place and have the health dept in that place today! I have to give at least 1 star in order to write this review. Do NOT, I repeat do NOT go to this horrible, racist and corrupt diner. Twice they've changed item descriptions and ingredients on the menu and they don't say anything about it to you until it's too late. I ordered a Mexican omelet. What I got was an egg covered in hot peppers, not at all what was described on the menu. Manager Sammy (a grown man?) said it's supposed to be Mexican so they threw some hot peppers on it! WTF?? Could you be any more racist Sammy?? If you complain and demand a refund they say they don't do refunds but will give a credit for next time. Who the hell would give them another try?? Went earlier today for brunch with my aunt and we had such a great time! I got the Louisiana Panini which was packed with flavor and toasted perfectly, while my aunt ordered two scrambled eggs with beef sausage, toast, and crispy hash browns that came out just right. Our server Tiffany was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we sat down. She was very presentable and professional, yet warm and approachable -- the kind of server who makes you feel comfortable and cared for. Her service made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The State Street Grill is not our first choice only because of the great food, abundant dietary food choices, reasonable prices, or friendly respectful staff. Eat there all the time. Louisiana panini with sweet potato fries, chicken a'la Oscar in pink heavy cream sauce, chicken Szechuan over rice, broil seafood combo, I'll have me the huge prime rib steak(at least 20 oz. for $18 anytime) I've paid 25-30$ for it anywhere else, the calamari is better here than in most places and the buffalo wings too, the best honey mustard anywhere(I hear it's home made no wonder it's the best), Greek salad, Cobb salad, and I'm still to try the rest of the menu. Met a friend there for dinner on Monday 7/2/18. It wasn't crowded due to holiday week. Very hot weather so air conditioning felt great. Cheyenne our server, was attentive and efficient while letting us relax and catch up without unwanted interruptions. I had the chicken portabello burger with a side salad. Grilled chicken on a toasted bun was topped with balsamic mushroom and covered with melted mozzarella. Delicious! My friend enjoyed a huge spinach salad with grilled chicken. I started going to breakfast at State Street a couple of months ago. Prior to that I was going to a dinner much closer to my home. I go to State Street now at least 4 days a week for breakfast. In addition to the food being good the service is great!!! The morning manager Samuel is always making sure my coffee is filed and etc. I see that he is always asking customers how is the food and if they need anything. I never ever write reviews but felt compelled to because one of your servers is worth mentioning. I go there with my dad for lunch every tuesday and always sit Melanies section by the counter. Ive been in the restaurant industry my whole life and as a chef wed say the best servers are like silent ninjas. If there is truth to that melanie would be the ninja instructor.
