I've shopped at the Poway store since it opened and was 99% pleased with the product, service and selection. However, in the last three months I have noticed that they have very few checkers on the line, even at the busy time of day. Today, two days before Christmas, was the all-time kicker. I was in the store at 9:30am, when I went to check out there were TWO checkers available and one was the 'speedy-lane'. The line for the other checker was eight shopping carts deep, several had a full basket. They did not call for additional checkers until I was the next customer in line. VERY frustrating. When I told the checker that I knew it was not her fault, but that the last three months the checkout service has really declined. She agreed and I asked her to pass my comment on to Management. She said she's heard it so many times and Management doesn't seem to care. They are saving money on their employment cost. That savings just cost them a very loyal customer. I will shop at Sprouts and Costco whenever possible and AVOID Stater Brothers. read more

Not a bad grocery store and prices are good but I'm not a fan of their baggers. I got 2 bags. One they put in half gallon milk, half gallon almond milk, 2 cans of spinach, head of cauliflower and some chips. The other bad was 3 very light things. As a ex employee I shouldn't have been surprised by the store managers behavior that's why I left the place. This morning I was doing my weekly grocery shopping at the local Stater bros & as always it seemed to always be short staffed with cashiers so they usually have the store managers help. Well this morning as I was checking out I was nagging my groceries and I noticed he was scanning and tossing my food that I was spending my hard earned money. I believe the managers name is Gerry and he didn't seem to care, he was in a rush to leave the register and was calling for back up as he had someone on hold on his phone. I'm not using ebt or government help this is my hard earned cash and I expect a little more respect then throwing my food down with one hand. I am appalled with the store managers behavior. I needed a cake for my sons birthday, I wanted it to look very professional as I invited a few co workers , and did not want my wife to burn yet another cake. When coming here I was concerned, but I heard a rumor this place had good cake. Holli in the bakery was very helpful and helping me find the perfect cake. Twice I have ordered a cake and asked for it to be decorated in a unique and specific way, by providing a picture and the items I want on the cake. She will work with me, advising if my items will work or not, if not, she'll suggest alternatives, then she works her magic!!! Each cake she has created, everyone at my party raves about how CUTE it is. The cakes are also VERY MOIST and delicious. I would give negative star for this location if I could. I been to many other State Brothers locations and overall experience with the stores and employees was pleasant. NOT at this location!! particularly with the lady working at the deli (06/23/16 5:30pm) Went in to buy a sandwich, she have no problem serving the white customer in front of me, took her time chit chat while I was waiting behind. When it was my turn she show a completely dif. attitudes...border line hostile. Didn't even let me finish order (talking) before walking away and start making the sandwich, when I told her I wanted the meal deal she acted as if the world is ending (should have waited and let me finish my order) then threw the sandwich on the cashier counter in front of me, and smashed! the changes on the counter instead of handing it back. When i told her i don't need a bag she proceed to irately threw the plastic bag to the side down to the floor and walk away to server the next white customer with complete dif. attitudes then what I just have experienced. Now I'm the most easy customer there is in this world (even if server f*ck up my order BAD!! I wouldn't even bother to come back and bother the server with it, is the kind of customer I am to show the magnitude of this situation) So two things can happened here, either she is an extreme case of bipolar or its just plain discrimination. The foremost can be forgiven not the latter. Management need to take a look at and train their employees again Never again would I come back to this location. read more

Avoid crowds by shopping here, I hate when people get off work and flood the Vons and Ralphs so I go to stater bros. They carry everything a regular grocery store would have and sometimes it's also cheaper. The workers are kind and quick to help you when your searching for an item. I have recently started going here instead of the Von's across the street. I like the prices here better than Von's and they seem to have more items that I like on sale here. The check out clerks are always friendly and pleasant. They are also more of them open than at Von's. I usually come here once a week to stock up on groceries. I am big into fat free food and they seem to have a good selection as well. I just wish they wouldn't have high fructose in their salad dressing as I have a reaction to the stuff. Oh well. I like Stater Bros. The people that work there are super nice. The only complaint I have is that the pharmacist wont get off his butt to show you where the kids' cold medicine is and even if there are no customers he just points in a general direction and its not even in that area. But just took off a star for that. Everyone else is awesome and they give my kids cookies and remember you for the most part. Their prices are very good compared to most grocery stores. They have mini burgers and mini buns in their meat section which is awesome if you have little kids that take a few bites and get full. Their selection is getting better everyday, which was an old complaint I had, but not anymore. Their bananas came down in price which got me so excited that I had to come home and write a review about it :) read more

We have so many grocery stores and discount stores in Poway. Stater Bros doesn't claim to be a discount store, yet their prices are the best. They also have the friendliest and happiest cashiers in town. I do most of my grocery shopping here. I still hit Sprout's and Costco for certain items, but Stater Bros is overall the grocery store in town. read more

The bakery counter has a bell, if you want service you better ring the fu*k out of that bell otherwise store workers will walk right past you. Wasted 10 minutes literally. I went in wanting to request a cake and cupcakes and she truly went above and beyond to make sure they were exactly what I wanted. I had an unpleasant customer service experience at the Stater Bros. on Monday morning. The cashier was rude and apparently I was putting her out by being in her presence. I had immediately made up that i just would never ever shop at that store again, despite it being right be work and super convenient. I decided to call the store and speak to a manager and just let them know what happened. Immediately one of the managers, Joe, got on the phone. I explained to him the situation and he reassured me that it would be taken care of and apologized. When i went to meet with him later, Joe went above and beyond excellent customer service. Really, he was amazing! Thank you Joe for rectifying the situation and keeping me as a loyal customer. You are an example for your employees and all customer service!!! read more

Just went to Stater Bros. in Poway. I needed AAA batteries. I searched the entire store twice and could not find them. I finally asked an employee what isle the batteries are on. He asked me what size batteries I needed. I told him AAA he then asked me if I wanted Duracell or Energizer. I got frustrated and asked me to tell me which isle the batteries are on so I could see the prices and make my selection. He told me that they hide the batteries in a locked cabinet because people steal them. Really, you have a $20.00 bottle of whiskey out in the open and lock up $6.00 batteries!!! If they lock up everything over $6.00 then why don't they lock up the liquor or the steaks??? He finally unlocked the case and handed me the batteries. I stood in line and paid for my groceries. I got all of the way out to my car when I realized he gave me AA and not AAA so I had to go all the way back in the store and wait to be served again. I cannot imagine that locking up the batteries is a good idea. It chased off this shopper. I will go to Walmart next time because I can walk right up to the batteries and pick what I want. I hope the manager reads this and rethinks his loss prevention methods. read more

I like the small-town feel of Stater Bros. I've never had an issue with customer service or the quality of their products. I also find they sell many things for a lower price than Vons, Safeway, Albertons, etc. Compare the price of any vegetable from their produce to the same thing at Sprouts and you can paint the picture pretty quickly. A cheaper and more interesting option is North Park on Poway and Pomerado. Not as much selection but you can get most if not all of your core vegetable list from there along with many other things that most homes need (salsa, meats, etc.). read more

This place is worse than the DMV. They never have enough checker lanes open so you stand in line for 15 minutes to buy 3 items. One of the lanes open is an express with 15 or less items and there are always locals with 20 or 30 items slowing up the slow lines. Also bought chicken from deli and it was burnt! Wtf how yall gonna charge for burnt food I can't eat? I hate this place get some self check out lanes if you're only going to have two lanes open! Get with it or get left behind. read more
