I've been here a couple times for dinner and have been consistently satisfied, though not blown away, by my burger (which is frequently overcooked). That said, the the beer selection is great and the service is always excellent. Oh, and the Gouda and gravy Wet Fries? I could skip the burger and be perfectly happy with just those. Station 2's real hook is their brunch. A friend and I tried it recently and were both extremely impressed with our meals. I've always been torn in two at Station 2. While I absolutely love their milkshakes because they use Homestead Creamery Ice Cream which is killer, and their sweet potato tots are also amazing, I've really haven't been particularly overly impressed by their burgers. I think part of the reason is on paper, they sound awesome and interesting: the Spicy Wasabi Burger, the Curryous, the BBQ Barista- all great names, but the flavor doesn't meet the excitement. Not a bad place for a burger and fries at the bar during a football games, but otherwise just a typical burger joint. This is also the second time that a waiter has taken my table's order here by memory, and has missed things. This is kinda becoming a pet peeve of mine because it's not a big deal to write things dow just to make sure it's correct. Pros: Killer Homestead Creamery Ice Cream Milkshakes. Sweet potato fries. Good happy hour specials Trivia once a week They have a massive burger/fries challenge that few can do Good bar for a sports game. Tried this place for the first time with my parents and boyfriend. All of us loved our burgers! My parents also got milkshakes they enjoyed, however, the cups are very cheap and small so it's not a big milkshake. My boyfriend and I got the cinnamon sugar pretzel bites which weren't so good either if you're looking for an "auntie Anne's" style pretzel. Most of the time my service is great. My favorite thing to order is the station 2 salad with the feta Italian dressing. The grilled wings are not quite cooked enough, but I recently discoved that you can get them fried and that does seem to do the trick. The buffalo sauce is great. The deviled eggs are a cool option and taste great.The burgers are cool and I appreciate that you can get vegan, chicken, turkey or beef. I just wish everything didn't come with bacon since I don't eat pork. You just have to ask for no bacon. The regulars are cool and inviting. You can eat late which is a nice perk for those who work late. They sell cigars and you can smoke on the patio. Last critique, the pressed burgers used to be good sized, especially for only $2 on Tuesdays, but now they're like half the meat so they don't feel worth it anymore. I love this place. It's perfect for a casual night with burgers and beer. Their vegan edamame burger is a interesting and delicious version of a veggie burger, and if you get it on the Texas toast it is fully vegan. It's always great to see restaurants with many options for those with dietary restrictions. Great rotating tap list that changes weekly, so you can always find something new and interesting. They do flights too which makes it easy to try multiple different beers. If you're able to have dairy then definitely try to adult milkshakes, they're one of my family's favorite things. They also have trivia every Wednesday evening, which is always a good time. The wait staff is always on point. I really can't come up with many complaints. If you're looking for a fancy gourmet burger, this isn't the place, but if you want a relaxing and casual atmosphere with some pretty great food and drinks then this is the place for you. read more

An article on Richmond.com encouraged me to try this new restaurant, as I was in search of a new place to try for brunch. Though the article and other Yelpers have praised this place for having good burgers, I was hoping the other food items would be equally pleasing. I was sadly mistaken. The waffle sliders came out room temperature and had to be heated up. In addition, the food in general lacked flavor and had to be drenched in syrup and ketchup to make it taste like anything. The server was very nice, but we had to ask her more than once for the same condiments. At least she was willing to knock something off of our tab. I liked the location and the atmosphere within and may be willing to return and try a burger...but this won't be added to my favorites list for brunch. read more

I have no idea why I haven't written a recommendation for Station 2 yet. DH and I have been coming here for years. The place is a converted fire station so you have huge high ceilings, tables, booths, and a bar area. There is really no soundproofing so it is loud, be warned. On nice days the front station doors are open so you can sit and people watch. They have an ever changing craft beer menu. If there is a black dot by the beer that means it is available - don't be me and not pay attention. DH and I were there this past Friday and had the Acoustic Kitty IPA, which was a great hoppy beer for what was still a warm night. If you are going to order apps, I would do so before you decide on your burger. There have been times when the burgers have come out before we were ready. We always start with, what else, fried pickles. Station 2 also uses a beer batter and be careful when these come out - they can be HOT!. Pickles come with both ranch and mustard. This last visit I had the New New Mexico which features pepper jack cheese over an entire green chili and some spicy jalapenos. So very spicy if you like that sort of thing like I do. DH had one of the featured burgers of the month. The burgers come with a side INCLUDED (unlike that new kid on the block) and you cannot go wrong with the sweet potato tots! TIP! They also have one of the best burger values in town, you can get a griddle pressed burger with cheese for $5. read more

What a fantastic addition to the Shockoe Bottom/Union Hill/Church Hill area! A very enthusiastic and helpful staff working within a warm and welcoming fire station-turned-casual neighborhood eatery. Station 2 has an excellent array of local beers, comfort-inspired appetizers, and a staggering list of inventive hamburgers. I started with a Hardywood Park Singel and the pickle plate, which consisted of delicious hand-battered fried pickles, and their own whole grain mustard blend, which was a huge hit. Shared a "Beerfest" burger [ALL of the good things: bacon, potato 'shingles,' onion straws, cheese] and a "BBQ Barista" turkey burger. Even though the burger was ordered medium-well and turkey burgers tend to taste like arid earth, both were incredibly moist and delicious and BIG. A chocolate-banana-peanut milkshake was also ordered, but it was consumed so quickly I didn't get to try it. Apparently it was fantastic. The only downside is that I feel that there could be a couple of more entrees added to the menu besides hamburgers that wouldn't throw the kitchen for a loop. Also, parking around E. Main St. is always a hassle. Otherwise, I'm really excited that Station 2 exists, and can't wait to visit often, even if it's just to stop in for a couple of pints. read more

Station 2 is always good, but never a mind blowing experience for me. The burgers are prepared well, but the service always seems to be where they lack. The confusing part is that it's never all of the staff, it's about half and half. While some servers or bartenders are awesome, others seem to be more interested in socializing and talking to their friends that stop by. I'm not mad at friends as customers whatsoever, however, make sure you take care of the folks that you don't know just as well. The deviled eggs are definitely worth trying out for an appetizer, and even though there are lots of draft beers listed, don't have your heart set on any item listed because they frequently change the options. A funky spot in the Bottom! The restaurant is a converted firehouse with tall ceilings and big open windows. It is a great place to go if you are craving a festive burger and an even stranger brewski. Do not expect to come here and look for a traditional lager! What I believe is so unique about this restaurant is that they have five different burgers (beef, sliced turkey, ground turkey, black bean, and edamame burger) and about 15 different styles to choose from. If you are a veggie like me, give the "Curryous" with the edamame burger a try. For you meat eaters, the bf loved the George Orwell! If you decide to "climb the station ladder" and eat what probably is over 10 pounds of food in under 15 minutes, you are gifted a Station 2 shirt. My friend wears his quite proudly. read more

We stopped here on a whim, and I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing - we ordered an app and four meals, and it all came out right from the kitchen, steaming hot and delicious! The decor was charming and the service was quick. The food was great - I had the fried oyster po' boy (a special) with butternut squash soup, which was super creamy and delicious. The only thing I didn't like (and that caught me off guard) was the tiny portions. The po' boy was elementary school cafeteria lunch-sized, as was the "grilled cheese cheeseburger" that my boyfriend ordered. I mean, the po' boy was practically the same size as the soup, which is supposed to be the "side." We were lucky in that we had chosen to share a starter of "wet fries" (a small portion of fries with gouda and gravy); otherwise, I definitely wouldn't have been full from just my meal. Station 2 has a pretty killer brunch and it's perfect after going out on Saturday night. Contrary to popular belief "the cure" on the menu, does not actually cure your hangover. Quite the contrary. They also have some very good biscuits and gravy. If you're feeling "eggssessive" you can start off with some deviled eggs. They have a choice of either 3 or 6 and they're all good kinds. What I will be back for: apparently they have trivia at 8:30pm on Wednesday nights so I'll be wanting to check that out. read more

Holy moly, I haven't stopped thinking about this place since I went with a friend last week. We went on one of the first warm days after work and were able to find street parking about a block away. Since the weather was so nice they had the big wall/windows things open - while it was nice to have the breeze it also brought in all the cigarette smoke from people hanging out front. As far as the food, my friend and I split the fried pickles as an appetizer. They had a thick beer (?) batter that somewhat overpowered the actual pickle. Didn't stop me from inhaling them though :) I then got the Classic Station 2 burger, which came with LTO, pickle chips, bacon, and cheddar. My friend got the Beerfest, which appropriately had bacon, onion straws, and beer cheese. Both were amazing and neither of us were able to finish them. Now I'm not one for leftovers, but I ate the second half of my burger for lunch the next day and loved every bit. I'm already planning a return visit! read more

I went there last night for a dinner with old friends. It ended up being about 10 people. The waiter was wonderful, did separate checks without a problem and accommodated our slowly expanding party with a smile. Good beer list, The beer burger was delicious. They actually cook the burgers medium rare as they're suppose to be done. My only warning would be if you don't love spicy be careful what you order of their spicy menu one of my friends was surprised at how spicy her veggie burger was. I've been here a handful of times due to convenience of the location and not having to fight for a parking spot. The service I've had in the past has been great. Everyone is friendly and willing to answer any questions, as well as make recommendations. The food is okay, but I feel like the burger wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I'd go back to try other burgers for sure though. I really like the atmosphere and the feel of the restaurant. I'm hoping to come back one night for trivia.
