Visiting kid at VCU and stopped in. Ballpark burger was fantastic along with the Deviled Eggs appetizer. Ballpark burger was juicy, perfectly cooked and the the mustard was spicy but tasted damn good! Staff was very friendly and courteous. Waitress (very tall and damn good-looking!) was very good. Recommended a great beer from Salem, VA. She allowed us to try a sample of some of the beers and got it right on the second try! Definitely recommend this place to all. I like this place. It's cozy, and the eats are good. It's a large interior with tables in front, then booths, and bar at the very back. You can get a wide variety of local beers, wines, and cocktails. They always have a burger of the month which is fun, and I've gotten the pretzels and beer cheese before and it's delicious. The fries are good also, and I'm picky about fries. They also have sweet potato tots, black bean burger, and wet fries, which is kind of like poutine. As a frequent visitor to Station 2 I was absolutely appalled by the service received last night. We went in as a party of 8 and were asked to sit outside as the inside was full. we ordered our drinks and put our food in, everything going pretty normal for a friday night. 25 minutes go by still no food and no time frame on the food. we asked to go inside after about 30 minutes of sitting outside since we saw an open table. now we are on 40 minutes of not receiving our food so i finally ask about it and the server says "there were several orders in front of yours it's going to be a while". 50 minutes of sitting down we finally get our food, given it was only burgers and fries it should never take that long. after eating our mediocre food we asked for a manager. the manager comes over and i explain to him that our food took almost an hour and is there any type of discount or future visit coupon we could recommend. the manager responded "there's nothing i can do it's a busy friday, i'm sorry it took longer than expected." this review would have never happened if the manager had corrected the issue to begin with. absolutely horrible experience and we will NEVER return. all 8 of us. read more

What a horrible experience. We literally had the worst service ever. The waitress didn't write down our order, which is a huge pet peeve of mind as they typically forget something. Sure enough, she did....our appetizer......TWICE! They did eventually bring it out, after our entrees and comped it to us. Regardless, we didn't want it at that point. The burgers are crap. I seriously can't believe people think this is one of the better burgers in town. You couldn't pay me to go back. Loved this restaurant repurposed from old fire station! So convenient in downtown Richmond in our first stay at a nearby Airbnb. It was late and we were just needing a bite to eat. I ordered Greek salad at waitress recommendation. My husband ordered the house salad with the $4 pressed burger. Both salads were so fresh with house made dressing and on a late Saturday night!! The burger was also fresh and not too much for a late night. Very reasonable prices. We got out for $18. Will definitely go back next time we're in the area! read more

I've been to station 2 several times now. I'm really happy to have them in the neighborhood. I love the vibrancy of the area with all the new construction and apartments coming in. I think Shockoe Bottom might finally be getting ready to pop! First the good.......I REALLY love the Virginia Craft beer selection. They've got 12 or so taps and the selection is really great. Very well thought out. Their happy hour specials are great, with half off the Virginia beers. Obviously, the owners are beer lovers. The atmosphere is great! I love the fixed up firehouse. I stared at that run down decrepit firehouse for years, wondering why nobody had ever fixed up the building. Good job guys! Very nice. The waitresses are gorgeous. Megan is my favorite! ....mmmmmm..... The Amerikreiner sausage app from Sausage Craft is really delicious. And the onion straws are pretty decent. The outdoor seating area is a plus for Shockoe Bottom, not to many places you can sit outside in the area. Now the bad......well, the burgers aren't really very good. Plain jane patties with little or no seasoning are served on a dry dry dry bun. If burgers are their specialty, then they really need to re-evaluate. There are genuinely better burgers within one city block! The potato shingles were under cooked and really bland and the fried green beans looks and tastes like they came out of a bag from Sysco. The chili was really bland and tasteless. Wendys has better chili. I haven't been for the brunch. I don't often do the brunch thing. The adult milk shakes look delicious, but I have cut out most sugary stuff from my diet, including ice cream. This place is fantastic. My fiancé and I went here twice in the first month that we lived here. I got the same thing both times: the New New Mexico burger. I just can't resist that delicious chipotle aioli! They have a very wide variety of flavors and options for a burger joint. High quality, filling, and ADDICTING! I loved the sweet potato tots, especially. However, you can get very delicious hamburgers at many restaurants in town for a cheaper price (every burger here is $10 and decent-sized), and the burgers here are tasty, but not so tasty that they're worth waiting for 30 min. Amazing burger joint with something for everyone. With a wide variety of burgers and sides to choose from, it's easy to find something that will please your palate. All burgers can be had with a vegan patty, so no reason for your vegan friend to stay home. Sides are also amazing, my favorites are the sweet potato tots and chili. The edible parade doesn't end there though, the bar has lots to offer as well. They offer a variety of craft beers (many of them local), along side some of the mass produced brewers if that's your thing. If beers aren't for you check out their signature adult milkshakes, well worth their premium price. Service has always been decent, if not the best in town. The staff is competent and professional, but they tend to lack the polish and warmth I've enjoyed at some other burger/bar establishments. While I have never walked away raving about great service, I've never had need to complain about poor service either. In short, I'm here every couple months and will continue to keep on coming for the foreseeable future. I encourage you to give them a try. read more

I love this place. It is my neighborhood burger place that stays open pretty late and has a great selection of burgers, beer, and adult milkshakes. Yes. Adult milkshakes. For the vegetarians, this place is also for you. I am a vegetarian and there are two veggie patty options that you can use as the patty for any of the burgers they make. Their fries are phenomenal (and I usually like shoestring fries, but these are great). I am not much of a beer drinker but I did have a taste of a phenomenal beer (for a non beer drinker) there that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. The husband and I started coming here years ago and initially we thought it was really good. A bar/restaurant in an old fire station? Pretty cool. Staff was friendly too. Food was decent. Over time, the food has overall just gotten bland and lackluster and the service spotty (still friendly, though). Gave it another shot a couple weeks ago with my kids. My daughter and I both ordered burgers, medium (should have been some pink in there). They came overcooked, dry and very bland. No seasoning that we could tell. Have to say the sweet potato tots were excellent and my son really enjoyed his milkshake. The place was pretty empty (maybe 4 people at the bar and we were the only people sitting down in the dining area) and have to say the service was surprisingly slow. Used to frequent Station 2 since it was conveniently located underneath my apartment building. However, my last trip wasn't so pleasant. I sat at the bar and ordered a BBQ Barista burger to go. After ringing me up, the tall waitress/bartender with large glasses asked if I wanted anything to drink while I waited. I politely declined, signed my receipt and tipped. No sooner had I handed her the signed receipt with tip did she say "I hate to do this, but the couple behind you was here earlier. Would you mind waiting elsewhere? I can come find you when your food is ready." I thought this was pretty absurd, as she wouldn't have asked me to leave the bar had my food have been ordered to eat at the bar, nor would she have asked me to wait somewhere else if I was ordering drinks. Considering I had placed an order and was a paying customer - not someone who was just sitting at the bar, watching the game - there should've been no reason to ask me to leave my seat so that two random people behind me could have my seat. That couple didn't even sit down as I waited from across the bar for my food... go figure. Sadly won't be going back, all because of lousy service read more

The restaurant is a good chill spot to meet up with friends and grab drinks. I've been there on several occasions but have never been truly impressed. The wings leave a lot to be desired, and who doesn't offer at least a chicken sandwich? Or chicken on the menu besides wings? On the weekend they have brunch which is okay. They have mimosa's for a reasonable price and different flavors. The service has been good, but it's your traditional neighborhood bar. They do allow dogs on the outside, with the catch that your pet has to be on the other side of the gate (sidewalk). I came here a few weeks ago with a group from work for happy hour. Their happy hour begins at 4 I believe which works great for us all. The waitress was great! She was very attentive and energetic. We had people come and go the whole evening and she made sure that everyone knew the specials they had for happy hour, half price VA drafts! Everyone got their food and drinks in a decent amount of time and everything was delicious! Their burgers are great and a great price. I'm visiting Richmond and this place was recommended to us by a worker at a nearby museum. The food did not disappoint! As three vegetarians we usually have a hard time finding good places with lots of options, but this place was perfect. They have two different veggie burger options that can be easily put in any of the topping combinations. All of them were fresh and freaking delicious (for the wasabi burger, they were really generous with the wasabi aioli, so beware). Also, you have to get the sweet potato tots. As an avid consumer of all things sweet potato, having them in the form of tots was just too much awesome for me to handle. They have a nice selection of craft beers and oh my their adult milkshakes. I live nearby and came here with three friends in search of a great burger and a gluten free bun for one of our guests. We called ahead to make a reservation and had a great experience with the hostess on the phone. We were super excited when we sat down and saw all of the different burger toppings/options on the menu. However, once we received the food we were super disappointed. All of our burgers were super dry & overcooked - we all ordered medium-rare or medium and received burgers well beyond well done. I decided to try Station 2 for dinner after hearing about the restaurant from my Yelp friends. I was curious to taste the food. I ordered the George Orwell burger, which included 2 fried eggs, bacon, cheese, and Texas toast. The burger was average. The burger lacked flavor (seasoning).In my opinion, flavor can make or break a burger. The lack of seasoning made the burger miss the mark. The burger comes with different sides. I choose the sweet potato tots. The sweet potato tots were tasty. I could eat them all day long. I order the blueberry pomegranate milkshake after my dinner. My server recommended the milkshake which was delicious. I definitely will be back to try other milkshakes. The service was good. The waitress was very attentive. The employees were friendly. Station 2 has a nice social atmpsohere.The décor in the restaurant is cool.Theres street parking around the restaurant. I recommend the sweet potato tots and milkshakes at Station 2. read more

Went in for a quick lunch with my boyfriend and his parents after a quick move in to our new apartment. Our server, a nice young man, was exceptional and made fantastic recommendations one being the specialty peach burger which was very much enjoyed. He realized that gravy was missing from fries and checked on us multiple times throughout the visit. Left a great meal not realizing a wallet with plenty of possessions was dropped and it was held for us in a safe location until we could retrieve it. Great people and great staff. The first few times we ate at Station 2, the food was either "meh" or disastrous. I think they either changed the recipe for their hamburger meat or hired a new cook because each of our last visits featured delicious burgers, cooked to the appropriate temperatures with fresh toppings and sides. Our favorites: New new mexico, Elvis, Curryous, Station 2, Fire Burger and the Ballpark. Other dishes that are a must: sweet potato tots, fried pickles. The downside of going to Station 2? There is literally ONE server who knows what is happening. ONE. Every time we go and she is not our server we just know that means that we will be there for hours. The servers are either making excuses for how busy they are, disappearing, being rude or forgetting your order right off the bat. I had to repeat part of our order to our server each of the three times she visited our table the last time we were there. The food is good, the atmosphere is okay but if the service doesn't turn around soon we will just have to stop going. It is simply too aggravating to sit there with bad service every single time. This is not a place for a quick meal so if you are short on time, try someplace else. read more

Wow. I don't think I've been this disappointed in a restaurant in a long time. I had heard the hype of Station 2 for a few weeks before I was able to try them out. I had looked at the menu a few times and had already planned out my order. My girlfriend and I decided to hit up their lunch on a Friday afternoon. I thought the decor and the layout of the restaurant was pretty cool. We were seated in the part of the restaurant that is open to the street which I thought was going to be cool, but it wasnt. Too many flies and the noisiness of busy Main Street was not all that. There was a reason that we didn't sit on the patio. Oh well, atleast the weather was nice. It took a hot minute for our server to come to our table. Ok, it's Friday lunch and there are probably a 100 seats in the restaurant and it looked like there were only 3 servers on. Hmmm....I started to prepare myself for a really long lunch. She finally arrives and honestly isn't that nice. But whatever, she's busy, I get it. We ordered two Beerfest burgers, I ordered the Naughty Girl Scout milkshake and my friend got a Pepsi float. It had been about 20 minutes after we ordered before the waitress even came back to our table. And hey, where are our milkshakes? She only comes to ask if we want more water, which we do, and instead of just bringing a pitcher of water...she goes all the way back to the wait station to bring us brand new cups. To you, this might be nit-picking. To me, this is a waitress who is wasting my time. She comes back with our water and tells us, our food will be right out. Mind you, we ordered 30 minutes ago. THEN she asks if we wanted our milkshakes with our burgers. Something that she could have asked while placing our order. And we never had the opportunity to ask her where they were because it took her 20 minutes to even come back to check on us. I tell her....actually, we wanted them first. And at this point, we didn't even want them anymore. At 35 minutes, our food finally comes out, brought to us by a very friendly food runner, who I think was more helpful in the 2 minutes that he dropped our food and brought us condiments than the waitress who clearly does not know the order of service. The burgers. So we both ordered the Beerfest burger because a) it came on a pretzel roll. b) beer cheese c) potato shingles. The burger is not served on a pretzel roll. The bun that we were given was so dry that it crumbled while I was spreading mayo on it. Now I'm really mad because the pretzel roll was the the deciding factor for my burger choice. There is a glob of beer cheese on one side of my burger and after I took two bites, there was no more beer cheese! The potato shingles were cold and hard. Did I mention that I was half-way done with my burger before our milkshakes FINALLY showed up. And I would barely call it a milkshake.....it was scoops of vanilla ice cream with creme de menthe drizzled on the top and chocolate chips thrown in there. Now I'm just angry because I don't want ice cream anymore but I paid $7, so I better get my moneys worth right? The question that is burning inside of me is this...why did it take 35 minutes for me to get a burger at a burger joint? A burger that I ordered medium rare that died in the window so long before it arrived at my table, it border-lined on tasting like a salisbury steak. My server had the audacity at the end of my piss poor experience to then kind of apologize and say, 'SORRY...we had a couple of 9 tops come in before you guys.' That is just not an excuse that I will never accept from a server. Maybe if she had communicated with me at the beginning of service that they were under-staffed and things might take a little bit longer than normal, I would have been a little more understanding. But when you don't communicate with your tables....your customers are gonna get pissed. Especially when you don't inform that you're out of pretzel rolls or do they even have them to begin with? I will say that I am bummed that this restaurant did not meet my expectations. Who doesn't love a burger?? And the fact that they stay open til 2 is really cool. But if Station 2 doesn't get their act together, I don't know how long they're gonna be open at all. read more

One of my favorite parts about living where I do is that there's so many good restaurants within reasonable walking distance of my place. I pass Station 2 every day on my way to work (and will confess to using its parking area when I'm making a liquor store run or picking up my co-op purchases at GlobeHopper on the way home) but today my husband and I took a stroll through Libby Hill Park, down the hill onto Main Street, and into Station 2 for that most Richmond of meals, brunch. Station 2's motto is "burger. fire. brew," and indeed the main menu is pretty much just that, but there is a special brunch menu that offers some traditional fare as well as some interesting twists. My husband, unsurprisingly, ordered a burger sided with chili. The burger was cooked to order, medium rare, and he enjoyed it and the chili. As I'm a brunch girl I went with what's called a breakfast melt. You know what they call a Gusburger, which is a cheeseburger with an over easy egg on top? Take out the burger, substitute a locally sourced sausage patty of the same size, and there's Station 2's breakfast melt. Served on a Lucille's Bakery bun, the egg cooked just enough for the yolk to soak into the bun, the sausage flavorful but not too salty ... delicious. It's normally sided with hashbrowns but I'm not a fan so I got fries instead. They were fresh and hot and salty, which is all I require of my fries. Station 2 has a lot to like. If you're into the whole locavore thing you're in luck because it uses local beef and sausage as well as offers a whole bunch of local beers. The prices are very reasonable, even for the booze--at brunch it offers pretty big Bloody Marys for $3.25. Yes, it's an old firehouse but it doesn't beat you over the head with the theme. With all the new apartments springing up around it, it seems to have a pretty hopping happy hour, too. And anyplace that serves milkshakes with booze in them? I regretted my no-drinking-before-noon self-ban, although judging by the size I better bring someone to share with me because I'm not finishing one of those bad boys--or in the case of the mint-chocolate bonanza known as the Naughty Girl Scout, girls--by myself. If you live in Shockoe Bottom or Church Hill, Station 2 is another good food place in an area which is suddenly becoming known for good food. read more

First of all, good luck finding parking on a Saturday night if you're driving anything larger than a Prius. It's all street parking and no lots. We literally drove around the surrounding blocks 10 times before we found a spot 2 blocks away. We went specifically to take advantage of the special items added for Vegan 72. We were happy to see that there were a couple of vegan items already on the menu. The homemade Chips, Fried Green Beans and Edamame Fritters with Vegan Ranch available. I picked this restaurant specifically for the Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos, Thai Tofu Burger and Lentil soup. All of which were disappointing. The tacos were greasy, not spicy enough, had very little filling and the shells were stale. The soup was just OK. The Tofu Burger was mostly bread and rather bland. The best thing we had was the Edamame fritters. Which had a great flavor and the texture of a crabcake. I think it's the same patty they use for their Edamame Burger because it was shaped like a burger that had just been cut into fourths and fried. The homemade chips were super crispy but a tad greasy. Not a diet food but yummy. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again, but if I was hungry for a burger and I could find parking I would give it another shot. read more

The menu looked promising, and we started with the fried pickles and the chili... The pickles were pretty good, with what I think was an ale batter, really crispy, served with whole grain mustard... I opted for the fire burger with japs and a habanero mustard, my wife, the wasabi with wasabi peas and I think a wasabi mayo. My burger was cooked medium, which I asked for but the bun... ok side note, a bun can make out break a burger, that being said, this burger was served on the worst bun I have ever had... Stale or just crappy I don't know, but if that is what there buns are like all the time, then they should find another vendor. It ruined what had the potential to be a decent burger. My wifes wasabi burger came out well and very dry, ordered medium as well. There were a few wasabi purse mixed in the meat, where e both thought they would better serve as a crust after coming off the grill, the mayo did nothing to help the dry meat so she went with siracha to help...
