I live nearby and came here with three friends in search of a great burger and a gluten free bun for one of our guests. We called ahead to make a reservation and had a great experience with the hostess on the phone. We were super excited when we sat down and saw all of the different burger toppings/options on the menu. However, once we received the food we were super disappointed. All of our burgers were super dry & overcooked - we all ordered medium-rare or medium and received burgers well beyond well done. In addition, the sides left a lot to be desired in the flavor department. With sub par food and a waitress that was not attentive and had a bad attitude, we won't be back. read more

Went in for a quick lunch with my boyfriend and his parents after a quick move in to our new apartment. Our server, a nice young man, was exceptional and made fantastic recommendations one being the specialty peach burger which was very much enjoyed. He realized that gravy was missing from fries and checked on us multiple times throughout the visit. Left a great meal not realizing a wallet with plenty of possessions was dropped and it was held for us in a safe location until we could retrieve it. Great people and great staff. I think I give every place just about 4 stars lol. Love this place wish it was so far away from me! Every chance I go downtown I always wanna eat here. The space is really nice and big bar in the back tvs & they have a pretty decent patio on the side. Alot of college kids go there sometimes club/bar hoppers. I always get the signature "Wet fries" gouda & gravy what else can you really ask for! The sweet potato tots is a must have as well takes me back to my elementary school days where lunch was $1.25 lol anyway. I got the spicy wasabi burger it was good but wish they have crumbles of the wasabai peas on top on the burger that would of been great. Also the new new mexico yum yum yum but just alot to handle bc of the toppings lol. Lets talk about adult milkshake what a genuis idea! Any of the milkshakes are amazing and pretty filling. This place is pretty great. The food is consistently delicious and I've never been disappointed on that end. The ambiance is pretty relaxed, the restaurant is always clean, and the decor is nice. They have a great selection of booze. The *only* reason I didn't give 5 stars is because, while service has always been pretty good (no long waits, my food always comes out right), a few of the people who work there can be somewhat temperamental. And at times borderline rude. I'd really just call it moody. And on the other hand, most of the people who work there are fantastic and I'd say they totally make up for the grumpy folks. Otherwise, this place is great! I suggest trying the sweet potato tots, the black bean fritters, and the bbq burger (can't remember it's exact name). First of all, good luck finding parking on a Saturday night if you're driving anything larger than a Prius. It's all street parking and no lots. We literally drove around the surrounding blocks 10 times before we found a spot 2 blocks away. We went specifically to take advantage of the special items added for Vegan 72. We were happy to see that there were a couple of vegan items already on the menu. The homemade Chips, Fried Green Beans and Edamame Fritters with Vegan Ranch available. I picked this restaurant specifically for the Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos, Thai Tofu Burger and Lentil soup. All of which were disappointing. The tacos were greasy, not spicy enough, had very little filling and the shells were stale. The soup was just OK. The Tofu Burger was mostly bread and rather bland. The best thing we had was the Edamame fritters. Which had a great flavor and the texture of a crabcake. I think it's the same patty they use for their Edamame Burger because it was shaped like a burger that had just been cut into fourths and fried. The homemade chips were super crispy but a tad greasy. Not a diet food but yummy. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again, but if I was hungry for a burger and I could find parking I would give it another shot. read more

We ordered a burger medium which came out with blood on the bun. When asked for a new burger they brought us a new burger. This burger once again was rare and bleeding. When we took it back inside the waitress said she would send a manager out. When the manager came out ahe did not introduce him self and he begins arguing with us about what a medium burger is. Saying that it suppose to bleed. He did not want to comp her bill for not wanting another burger. He did it with protest. Highly unprofessional behavior. The bus girl continued to argue with us. Let me start with the positives because I don't want people to not try this place. I have been here multiple times and the food is always top notch. Probably the best draft selection outside of the new taphouse. I counted on my visit today and there were only 5 beers not from Virginia and the bottle selection on the back is labeled something to the effect of "Tour VA". You can use a turkey patty if you are a non beef-eating person like myself and the Station 2 fries are delicious (hand cut and deep fried). So now on to the negative. The service is very hit or miss. The bartenders are the place to go if you want great service, but the seating is limited. My server tonight (Nick) was absolutely terrible! I was in for a quick bite before going to the hotel to prepare for the evening. I was in no way looking for 5-star, fine dining quality service but a little passion and enthusiasm would be nice. I have been a server for 11 years and a bartender for 6. I know that you have bad days, but you have to be able to put on happy face when you walk up to a table. The kicker was it wasn't even busy, it was before busy dinner service started. We sat down and he gave the perfect amount of time to look over the drink menu and we were in the food when he showed up. He greeted us at the side of the table and when through his spill, ending with "If you have any questions, feel free to ask." And before we say thank you or okay he was starting to walk away. I had to ask him if we could get something to drink. He brings the drinks back and walked away again. So I'm starting to get a little irritated. We ordered a Hawaiian Turkey Burger with no onion and no tomato with fries. When the food arrives it has onions and the fries weren't the Station 2 fries (which I normally did not have to ask for, so in this visit I didn't ask). He drops the food off and walks away. We didn't see him again, well at the table (he hung out at the hostess stand the whole time), until I had to flag him down for the check. We never once got asked how everything was, if we needed anything, nothing! Was the food great, yes! I just like a little interaction with my server, not to feel like I'm an inconvenience. So in conclusion to this book I have apparently started writing. Go here to have great twists on burgers and great beer and sit at the bar! Be aware of some servers. One of the girls has dreads which totally unsanitary for the front of the house (when you are playing with them at the table in front of the guests) and if you want minimal interaction and non memorable visit sit with Nick. read more

Summary: Dinner great. Lunch skip. Let me start with the good. Station 2 has a good dinner menu that's brought me back a few times (maybe that's because I live in Shockoe Bottom). Starting with the appetizers... The beer cheese is delicious. The fried pickles, mmm... The wet fries, not my style. The gouda cheese is great, but the gravy was just too salty and I don't shy away from salt. Now for the burgers, they offer 2 styles. They have small griddle pressed burgers and then they have their larger specialty burgers. The specialty (char grilled) burgers are great. The New Mexico is one of my favorites and the Grilled cheese burger on Texas toast is pretty tasty too. The service has been alright and is getting better. However, I can't recommend going there for lunch. They only offer the small burgers and they over cook them until they are completely dried out. I've only been once for lunch, but I have a number of friends who've had the exact same experience with dried burgers and were really disappointed. read more

I used to like this place. Food's not bad. People were friendly enough. I went to lunch with some guys from work today. The menu now states $7/9/10. Let me be clear. ONLY says $7/9/10. The waiter had to explain it before we ordered because it's something new they're doing apparently. Something like $7 for a single well-done patty / $9 for a double well-done / $ and 10 for anything other than well-done. Well they've always substituted for a black bean burger or a turkey burger. So to them, a substitution means the same as not well-done. Makes sense right? Of course not. Everyone was befuddled when the checks came. Befuddled and angry. So my "$7" burger plus a drink ended up being a $14 check. Very poor choices this restaurant has made. Everyone at the table admitted they'd never go back. What's even more pathetic. They charge more to have it cooked to another temp other than medium. Now I'm almost certain this is because it's most likely a different thickness to enable a different temp, but made by hand vs pressed is actually less steps, so how they think they can charge more for that in the first place is beyond me. Anywho, Station 2 as I said before used to be quite alright. Not anymore -- just people doin bad biz. Either change your policy, or have it explained. read more

I've been here on several different occasions and never had a bad experience..until today. Let's start with the positives: the food was great, the host was very sweet as well as the girl that ran our food. Sadly, that's the end of the list. Our server, "Jess", was pretty terrible. I don't know if this was her first day or if she has an excuse, but her attitude and attentiveness were both very poor. We waited for quite some time (until after the rest of our party arrived several minutes after my roommate and myself) to even be greeted. We felt rushed to order our entrees even before we asked for a few appetizers. After we received our apps, she never came to check on us until after our entrees were delivered. Once we were finished, we (again) waited to ask for boxes. When I asked for the check, she was very quick to bring it, but not to pick it up. Luckily, I had cash to cover the bill and a poor tip, although, I morally struggled to do just that (I've been in the service industry for over 8 years and always tip well even when it's not deserved, but I made an exception). What could've been a 30-45% tip for her quickly turned to 10 and what could've resulted in 4 returning customers is now the opposite. read more

That was the worst service ever. I walked in I wasn't acknowledged I had to ask if the kitchen was still open and then be handed a menu. I put in a burger to go and asked for a ginger beer while I was waiting. About 15 minutes later a white guy sits beside me and the bartender proceeds to tell him that appetizers are half off right now. I was furious I immediately asked her why didn't she tell me that appetizers are half off because she saw me contemplating the different items on the appetizer list just a few minutes earlier. She proceeded to say oh that's for dine in only which made absolutely no sense because clearly I would have eaten them while I was sitting there waiting on the entree. A few minutes later my food comes out she brought the box she did not bag the item or put utensils or napkins WITH THE BOX she only brought the BOX out and said nothing as if her job was complete I immediately asked the other bartender that was standing right there do your to go orders usually come with a bag and utensils she snapped back and said do you need all of that I swear if I had not ordered this dinner for my dad I would have left the food right there. Met for Ladies Lunch at Station 2, after one of our group raved about the hamburgers. For $10, we got much-smaller-than-the-bun burgers. The burgers were about average thickness for a restaurant burger. The buns were stale and crumbly and served dry. One lady didn't eat her bun and another had to ask for mayonnaise. The lady who order the blue-cheese hamburger had to ask for more blue cheese because she could barely taste it. Sides: french fries (unremarkable and cold), sweet potato tots (very good when hot), and freshly made potato chips (excellent). This is one restaurant crossed off our list. Next time we're in the mood for burgers, we'll go to our tried and true Honey Whyte's. Consistent great food and much better prices. The only thing that disappoints us there is a lack of sweet potato fries. read more

I was dragged here, because I had a feeling that the place wouldn't live up to the hype, it's just burgers after all. The boy and I started with their firehouse chili which was actually really good. It came out lukewarm though, and we had to send it back to get heated. I am not one of those freaks who needs everything to be piping hot, but the chili was just barely warm. How our waitress did not notice this and still served it to us is very questionable. Anywho, it inspired me to make chili later that week at home, which i did, and I was able to replicate it with no problem. So, the chili is good, but it isn't anything you've never tasted before. If you're planning to eat here, do yourself a favor and check out the menu first. I was less than impressed by their offerings. They have at least 10 different burger combinations, and I wanted to try something different, but they really went over board with their combinations (peanut butter, bacon, and bananas on a burger?!). I think I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food and new flavors, but I do draw the line somewhere. Perhaps you draw the line a little further than me, it is possible, but do yourself a favor and check out the menu. If something seemed like a possibility, there was one thing that made me think, "Nah. I won't like that." I didn't want a boring black and bleu burger, but that's what I ordered. It was alright, nothing special, not worth $10. I did try to see if I could get mushrooms added to the burger, but they didn't have mushrooms... Not that they were out, but that they didn't have mushrooms EVER. Wut? The boy had the ball park burger, which was a burger with a sausage on it. Yep. He liked it. I tried it, and the sausage was good, but it didn't need to be an accompaniment to a burger. It would have shined on it's own as a "hotdog" offering. If I eat here again I definitely won't be paying. I'd much rather pay for Five Guys. Oh, and yeah the atmosphere was cool. It's very pretty inside, with a sleek industrial kind of look. Disappointed. Used to come here once a week when I lived in Church Hill. I looked forward to my post Richmond 2015 meal of Grilled Cheeseburger on Texas toast with bacon & tomato all day. Then it came. Toast was burnt. Burger was over cooked & small. Cheese was nearly non-existent. There were bacon & tomato. But, my favorite burger was no longer a huge ooey gooey grilled cheese delight w/a tasty burger stuff inside. It was poorly constructed not the piece of art I remember. I love the variety of fresh beef hamburgers with multiple topping The bacon was cooked softly and I didn't feel like I might chip a tooth when eating it The Burgers were really cooked to order and the tiny little sweet potato tots were so sweet. The meal was topped off with Deep Fried Moonpie with Homestead ice cream...The cafe tries to use local or regional produce and other organic products. I would definitly go there again. I hear their Saturday and Sunday buffets are great. Just be aware that the acoustics are bad because the building is a former Fire House. The service was friendly and fast. read more
