Dined here yesteday..Saturday early evening. No crowd no wait (I made reservations for 5pm). The hostess, Amaya, greeted us and sat us at our table. She was also our server. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and very pleasant. She was very attentive and was tending to the tables AND the door. She definitely made our dining experience enjoyable. The ambiance was nice... low lighting and good music. The music was loud enough to enjoy and but low enough to hold conversations. It was set at the perfect volume. Amaya recommended some items in which we ordered the jerk wings, oxtail mac and cheese egg rolls, shrimp tacos, oxtail plate and jerk salmon plate. Everything was absolutely delicious with the oxtail plate and shrimp tacos being my favorite. All the dishes were filled with so much flavor. The jerk wings had a little kick to it but it was absolutely delicious! The portion size was good for the amount you spend. The only con would be no liquor! I don't think they have a liquor license. I definitely would have enjoyed a nice cocktail with this delicious meal. Status is located in Hollywood with plenty of other bars and businesses around. I finally got the opportunity to try Status, and I have a few thoughts. To start, I wasn't able to eat in the restaurant, so this review won't speak to the service or ambiance. The chicken was typical jerk chicken--solid spice level, good moisture, and decent seasoning overall. My main issue was the skin, which was a bit soggy. It made me wonder if the jerk chicken was baked. For a $30 plate, I have certain expectations, one of them being that the skin has at least some crisp to it. As for the rice and peas, they lacked seasoning. I didn't taste any thyme, pimento, or scotch bonnet. You could taste the coconut milk, which was a positive, but overall it felt underseasoned. My biggest takeaway was the additional charge for oxtail gravy on the rice ($3.50), as well as an extra charge for oxtail gravy on the side. Typically, this isn't something most restaurants charge for. Overall, I'm giving Status 3 stars based on the price point versus the quality of the food. We dined at Status last night in celebration of my Nephew's birthday. We were all very excited (and cautiously optimistic) to enjoy a Jamaican feast in a white-tablecloth setting. They did not disappoint! The food was DELECTABLE! We tried a wide variety, from the jerk shrimp tacos, curry chicken patty, oxtail egg rolls, and jerk wings to start, to the honey jerk lamb chops and oxtail entrees. All divine and well flavored, and served fresh and hot! The standout, in addition to the food, was Ammaya - she reminded me of the Jamaican skit from the show "In Living Color," because this young woman literally had 18 jobs - and she performed exceptionally well in each of them - with a beautiful, welcoming spirit, smile, and energy! My constructive criticism: * The restaurant was entirely TOO COLD! We inquired several times about closing the door, to no avail, and dined in our bulky winter outerwear. Not ideal when having a nice dining experience. * portions to price ratio: the proteins on our entrees could have been a bit better, given the price point. Three lamb chops for a $62 entree didn't seem appropriate. Even one additional chop would have seemed fair. I know odd numbers are a thing when it comes to symmetry, but that rule shouldn't apply here. * The restaurant was out of citrus for our beverages, as well as the Caesar salad. This was a pretty significant miss as there were minimal options for roughage. I will return and upgrade this rating to five stars once the liquor license is in place and some of these tweaks are factored in. All in all, the food rocked, and that's the number one priority! Status Hollywood has a nice, cozy ambience that makes it a great spot for a casual night out. The only downside was that it was a bit cold inside due to the door being left open, but it didn't take away too much from the overall experience. The food was delicious across the board. We ordered the Jerk Shrimp Tacos, which came with three corn tortillas filled with succulent jerk shrimp, topped with mango salsa and lime, served with a cilantro-lime side--very flavorful. The Jerk Chicken Tacos were just as good, with tender, well-seasoned chicken that paired perfectly with the mango salsa. The Jerk Honey Chicken was bold, savory, and satisfying. We also tried the Status Burger, which was juicy and filling, served with crispy curly fries that everyone enjoyed. For drinks, we had Sprite, Ginger Ale, and water. What truly stood out was the service. Our waitress was very pleasant and responsive to our needs throughout the meal. We also mentioned that we were celebrating our daughter's birthday, and the staff made it special by bringing out a "Happy Birthday" sign and surprising her with cotton candy, which she absolutely loved. My friend and I were spontaneous and tried to look for a spot for dinner. We randomly walked by and stumbled upon this lovely Jamaican restaurant. They didn't have signs but saw the menu stands outside and saw they had an appetizing selection of items, but mostly we were interested in their Happy Hour food (serving 4-7pm). Just our luck!! I ordered the Status Platter which was a combo of oxtail, jerk chicken, plantain, rice and peas, and braised cabbage. My friend got the plate of jerk chicken with a side of plantains. We kept commenting how flavorful and tender the meats were. Both dishes were huge portions for happy hour prices! The decor was like Old Hollywood / art deco. Very spacious booths and the music was mostly hip-hop and R&B so the vibes were great. We noticed the beautiful bar but that they weren't serving alcohol. My goodness what a vibe in here! Top tier Caribbean food. The best melt in your mouth Plantains I ever had! The brown stewed red snapper (fish) and the oxtails were standout dishes. Went back here again and tried to jerk salmon and my salmon was raw. I was very upset because I had such a great experience the first time, which shows a lack of consistency. The mac & cheese was very bland and plain, and we could've did without ordering it. Also, I want to mention how it took almost an hour for me to get my entrée and I don't understand why because it was just salmon, nothing really complicated. The staff was very apologetic, but there was no comp or any type of acknowledgment or something taken off the bill to make up for the incredibly long wait for salmon. I've wanted to try Status for a while and finally made it. We had the jerk wings, jerk chicken and chicken patty. The food was decent, service was okay and the inside was a little dark. They have a DJ playing music and someone standing at the door to help you inside. We had an 8:00 reservation on a week night and the place was fairly empty, we were seated right away. I came here a few weeks ago I had no idea this was supposed to be Jamaican restaurant nothing about it gives Jamaican I mean they only played one Jamaican song. My first time at Status, I didn't get to try the food but tonight I'm so glad I did because it was all delicious! First off when you walk in, the music is blaring with the hottest tunes. It feels like a club! The hostess was really nice as well as the owner Phabio who came around to all of the tables to make sure the customers were enjoying the food. Our waitress Kyla was very helpful and gave us suggestions on what to order. She was very attentive and friendly as were the rest of the staff. We ordered the Pink Barbie drink, Sunset mocktail, Oxtail Mac & Cheese Egg Rolls, Jerk Shrimp Tacos, Jerk Homey Lamb, Oxtail plate, and Mac & Cheese side. Everything was so good, so flavorful, so Caribbean. My Haitian fiancé even gave them two thumbs up C'est Ci Bon! Yesterday was my third time here and I was upset! I was there celebrating a special occasion so I expected the same experience I had a couple of months ago. Previously everything was perfect and flavorful. This time everything was different and I hate that! Last time the rice was perfect and I loved that I could taste the coconut milk. The cabbage was fine, nothing special. Now the chicken was cooked to perfection and it was flavorful HOWEVER the flavor was NOT jerk and honey, and I've had it before and it was. This time it was basically smoked sweet and sour chicken. No jerk. No honey. I literally have the same sweet and sour sauce in my refrigerator! Not even remotely the same as jerk and honey. Now lemme get on the hostess. She shouldn't be in the front. When my friend and I walked in she just stared at us as if WE were supposed to greet HER. It was very awkward. I don't even think she greeted us properly. She also was not attentive at all. I almost didn't leave her a tip. Right after the food was placed on the table she asked if everything was fine, but we hadn't even tasted the food. It's typically one of my fave dishes and let me tell you...I had a moment of gratitude that I had my sense of taste because baayybeee ...so good. Also the rice and peas were so moist and flavorful. I've had so many thag are dry and bland. Cabbage also amazing. I think only suggestion I would make is dimmer lighting to really elevate the ambiance , as well as cloth napkins as opposed to paper napkins. For food , I loved the tacos, and they give you so much in the shell, I just wish the shell was fried a little harder due to heaviness of all the goodness. We ordered our food at the same time and our dishes came out 20 min apart with no word or update from anyone. My friend was almost done with her food when I got mine. This oxtail place was very skinny for the price. Rice and cabbage were good. The Curry shrimp pasta was okay 6/10, probably tastes better with penne. Maybe it was because it was late, but they were not that busy to have had all of those mishaps. I'm Caribbean and was excited to try this place especially in Hollywood. I've been looking for a spot in LA that actually delivers on flavor, and Status Hollywood is it. So many places here are all about the aesthetic, but this? This is real food. Had reservations on 10/18/25 was about 10 minutes late due to traffic, checked in and was sat a table not given any menu, water, or silverware and literally was walked by several times with no service at all, waited over 30 to 40 minutes with no even asking me a drink or menu until I asked one of the staff members for some water and then asked him for a recommendation on a drink and he recommended the raspberry ting which was good and then waited additional 20 minutes to get a menu and told the gentleman that I wanted to try the plantains and egg rolls and waited additional 20 minutes when the actually female waitress came to my order and asked if I was ready to order and informed her that I ordered the egg rolls and plantains to find out that the gentleman never placed my order and they ran out of plantains, now I had wait again to get my appetizer and I can't remember how long that took to get and then order the honey jerk lamb chops. The wings were just ok, and one of my sisters ordered a salad with shrimp, and it took so long for it to come out that the rest of us had finished our food. Hopefully, we caught them on a bad night. Status specializes in Jamaican-Caribbean cuisine (I'd say) and given my background I was very skeptical about their food it was pretty great. Since this review is related to overall experience, I am giving it four stars, but based on the food alone, I would give it five stars the only reason I am not giving it five stars is because it is in Hollywood and parking is horrendous so that impacts the experience. Randomly walked in here with a group of friends as it was one of the few places open in 4th of July close to where we were. To be honest, I did not have high hopes...but I was very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the jerk chicken, honey jerk chicken, peppa shrimp, curry shrimp, and the plantains. All of the main dishes came with a side of rice and beans with cabbage. All of the dishes were really good. I'm not a huge fan of chicken, but both chicken dishes were flavorful and moist. The sauce on the peppe shrimp was absolutely delicious. We'd scoop it over the rice. I'd skip the plantains. We also tried some of their sodas: pineapple, pineapple ginger, grapefruit, and watermelon juice. The consensus on the drinks was skip. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. So I don't think I will go back. The honey jerk chicken was OK. It tasted like they just poured honey on top of it instead of cooking it with it. It was too much honey. Not enough jerk seasoning . The cabbage was plain it had no seasoning. Now the oxtails. Those were really good. I can say those are the best I have ever had. It was seasoned very good, I started dipping my chicken in the seasoning. I ordered a side of plantains. Those were good. The rice and peas didn't give me a Caribbean taste. It tasted more so like white rice. The customer service was very good. I do give them that. The ambience was cool. It was a cute little restaurant. It was clean. The bathroom was clean.
