    Curry Chicken Pattie 10/10

We dined at Status last night in celebration of my Nephew's birthday. We were all very excited (and cautiously optimistic) to enjoy a Jamaican feast in a white-tablecloth setting. They did not disappoint! The food was DELECTABLE! We tried a wide variety, from the jerk shrimp tacos, curry chicken patty, oxtail egg rolls, and jerk wings to start, to the honey jerk lamb chops and oxtail entrees. All divine and well flavored, and served fresh and hot! The standout, in addition to the food, was Ammaya - she reminded me of the Jamaican skit from the show "In Living Color," because this young woman literally had 18 jobs - and she performed exceptionally well in each of them - with a beautiful, welcoming spirit, smile, and energy! My constructive criticism: * The restaurant was entirely TOO COLD! We inquired several times about closing the door, to no avail, and dined in our bulky winter outerwear. Not ideal when having a nice dining experience. * portions to price ratio: the proteins on our entrees could have been a bit better, given the price point. Three lamb chops for a $62 entree didn't seem appropriate. Even one additional chop would have seemed fair. I know odd numbers are a thing when it comes to symmetry, but that rule shouldn't apply here. * The restaurant was out of citrus for our beverages, as well as the Caesar salad. This was a pretty significant miss as there were minimal options for roughage. I will return and upgrade this rating to five stars once the liquor license is in place and some of these tweaks are factored in. All in all, the food rocked, and that's the number one priority! We will be back soon! Take extra care of Ammaya - she's a TREASURE

Status Hollywood has a nice, cozy ambience that makes it a great spot for a casual night out. The only downside was that it was a bit cold inside due to the door being left open, but it didn't take away too much from the overall experience. The food was delicious across the board. We ordered the Jerk Shrimp Tacos, which came with three corn tortillas filled with succulent jerk shrimp, topped with mango salsa and lime, served with a cilantro-lime side--very flavorful. The Jerk Chicken Tacos were just as good, with tender, well-seasoned chicken that paired perfectly with the mango salsa. The Jerk Honey Chicken was bold, savory, and satisfying. We also tried the Status Burger, which was juicy and filling, served with crispy curly fries that everyone enjoyed. For drinks, we had Sprite, Ginger Ale, and water. What truly stood out was the service. Our waitress was very pleasant and responsive to our needs throughout the meal. We also mentioned that we were celebrating our daughter's birthday, and the staff made it special by bringing out a "Happy Birthday" sign and surprising her with cotton candy, which she absolutely loved. Overall, great food, friendly service, and thoughtful touches that made the experience memorable. We'd definitely recommend this place to others visiting Hollywood.

Got to visit this restaurant for my bday weekend and the food is amazing!! We ordered the oxtail eggrolls, jerk chicken and oxtail plate. Everything was really good and our service was great. The only thing that was a bummer was they have no liquor license which I think would attract more patrons, but their mocktails are pretty good!

My friend and I were spontaneous and tried to look for a spot for dinner. We randomly walked by and stumbled upon this lovely Jamaican restaurant. They didn't have signs but saw the menu stands outside and saw they had an appetizing selection of items, but mostly we were interested in their Happy Hour food (serving 4-7pm). Just our luck!! I ordered the Status Platter which was a combo of oxtail, jerk chicken, plantain, rice and peas, and braised cabbage. My friend got the plate of jerk chicken with a side of plantains. We kept commenting how flavorful and tender the meats were. Both dishes were huge portions for happy hour prices! The decor was like Old Hollywood / art deco. Very spacious booths and the music was mostly hip-hop and R&B so the vibes were great. We noticed the beautiful bar but that they weren't serving alcohol. Hopefully that'll change soon so we can come back for more!

Went back here again and tried to jerk salmon and my salmon was raw. I was very upset because I had such a great experience the first time, which shows a lack of consistency. The mac & cheese was very bland and plain, and we could've did without ordering it. Also, I want to mention how it took almost an hour for me to get my entrée and I don't understand why because it was just salmon, nothing really complicated. The staff was very apologetic, but there was no comp or any type of acknowledgment or something taken off the bill to make up for the incredibly long wait for salmon. They also still do not have their liquor license and it's been a very long time so I'm not sure exactly what is going on with that. All in all, I probably will not be coming back here after this unfortunate experience.

My goodness what a vibe in here! Top tier Caribbean food. The best melt in your mouth Plantains I ever had! The brown stewed red snapper (fish) and the oxtails were standout dishes. All entrees come with cabbage and rice n peas. The oxtail and Mac n cheese egg rolls were a delicious way to start the meal! The Jamaican chef had amazing hospitality and personally delivered our beautiful fish entree and it was plated for a Queen! I could see myself frequenting this spot, since the price point isn't over the top. Especially after they add cocktails and desserts to the menu. If you're in Hollywood check it out for yourself!

I've wanted to try Status for a while and finally made it. We had the jerk wings, jerk chicken and chicken patty. The food was decent, service was okay and the inside was a little dark. They have a DJ playing music and someone standing at the door to help you inside. We had an 8:00 reservation on a week night and the place was fairly empty, we were seated right away. As the night went on the place was packed. They don't have a liquor license at this time but they have a bar where they are whipping up nicely priced drinks. There are parking lots around and metered street parking.

I came here a few weeks ago I had no idea this was supposed to be Jamaican restaurant nothing about it gives Jamaican I mean they only played one Jamaican song. Customer service is good Note they don't serve alcohol yet but they do serve mocktails which were good, I tried one of the pastas it was good. It's a chill ambience with an older demographic. I do feel like they can improve in a few areas for example the bar area is so stale. This place definitely has potential and I'm hoping it'll be around for many years to come.

My fiancé and I were really craving some soul food and wanted to support a Black owned spot. Since it's been almost a year later, I thought I'd give this Caribbean spot another try. My first time at Status, I didn't get to try the food but tonight I'm so glad I did because it was all delicious! First off when you walk in, the music is blaring with the hottest tunes. It feels like a club! The hostess was really nice as well as the owner Phabio who came around to all of the tables to make sure the customers were enjoying the food. Our waitress Kyla was very helpful and gave us suggestions on what to order. She was very attentive and friendly as were the rest of the staff. We ordered the Pink Barbie drink, Sunset mocktail, Oxtail Mac & Cheese Egg Rolls, Jerk Shrimp Tacos, Jerk Homey Lamb, Oxtail plate, and Mac & Cheese side. Everything was so good, so flavorful, so Caribbean. My Haitian fiancé even gave them two thumbs up C'est Ci Bon! Everything was good, but the Oxtails have my heart, I just need some pikliz with it next time lol. This is now my new favorite Caribbean spot and I can't wait to go back. Check it out if you want to support a Black owned spot especially during Black History Month or any month, you won't regret it ;-)

Dry & flavorless rice, sweet and sour chicken, I mean "honey jerk" and cabbage.

Yesterday was my third time here and I was upset! I was there celebrating a special occasion so I expected the same experience I had a couple of months ago. Previously everything was perfect and flavorful. This time everything was different and I hate that! It's not even that the food was bad, but it was NOT prepared the same and the flavors were different. Might I add it was a different chef. I know this for a fact because the chef brings out the food. I wanted to come back specifically for the oxtail mac n cheese egg rolls because I had been thinking about them since the last time I came because they were so good. This time it was more Mac n cheese than oxtail, and when my friend commented the chef overheard her and brought out egg rolls with only oxtail, but he wasn't too nice about it. For my main dish I ordered the jerk honey chicken, rice & peas and cabbage. First of all as soon as I saw the rice I knew it wasn't right because the color was off. It was dry and flavorless. Last time the rice was perfect and I loved that I could taste the coconut milk. The cabbage was fine, nothing special. Now the chicken was cooked to perfection and it was flavorful HOWEVER the flavor was NOT jerk and honey, and I've had it before and it was. This time it was basically smoked sweet and sour chicken. No jerk. No honey. I literally have the same sweet and sour sauce in my refrigerator! Not even remotely the same as jerk and honey. Now lemme get on the hostess. She shouldn't be in the front. When my friend and I walked in she just stared at us as if WE were supposed to greet HER. It was very awkward. I don't even think she greeted us properly. She also was not attentive at all. I almost didn't leave her a tip. Right after the food was placed on the table she asked if everything was fine, but we hadn't even tasted the food. Then when we were basically done and I had to flag her down and I expressed my disappointment she was just looking at me like I was crazy, not knowing it wasn't supposed to be a celebratory meal for me. I came way across town only to be dissatisfied. It also was very hot and stuffy in there. No A/c going just the main door open which wasn't doing anything. Third time was supposed to be the charm. I won't be coming back.

This place has good vibes and very clean! The food was amazing!! Shrimp tacos were my favorite didn't get a picture. The oxtail and lamb chops had a sweet savory flavor. The service was not so great. We went on Mother's Day and it took way too long for my grandsons' French fries; however, the Manager/Owner apologized profusely and we eventually got the order. The drinks were mocktails and a little bitter. Over all the place is nice for a date night, girls night or family night out..

Pros : Jerk chicken was amazing Oxtail plate was up to par Mac and cheese was definetly a cheesy goodness Steamed vegetables was just like any-other Cons: Service / ambiance was definitely not it

    Denise M.

The decor was inviting! Great sound system with contemporary R&B playing. Warm reception by the team. Excellent customer service. Let's get to the food- the food is spicy in all the right ways! The cabbage was delicious and not for the weak! If you don't like spicy order someone! The chicken was tender and falling off the bone. The oxtail egg rolls were like a warm hug. The bathroom was very clean but there were no hand towels. They do not sell alcohol which is fine. The mock tails were delightful. Can't wait to take my family! I hope Chef John is there when I return. He was super friendly. We also ordered beef patties to go. You will be very satisfied and full. The vibe at Status is awesome. I'd love to return at night and see what it's like . Thumbs up

Hands down the best Jamaican beef patty I've ever had, crispy, beefy, savory, ridiculously aromatic, and that little dab of habanero sauce had my mouth pleasantly on fire for a minute!! This area is not familiar to us at all, and we don't normally eat (for us) exotic cuisine. But, we were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped here. It's a colorful, cheerful little place. I think there are only like 4 tables. Apparently, it is mostly takeout. This became evident when our food was "served". We ordered a large two-meat plate and two large fried chicken plates. The two meats were "brown stew chicken" and curry goat. The meat is served in thick savory gravy/sauce. The "plates" are served with rice and fried plantains. The brown stew chicken was good. The curry goat was really good. Here's where the experience really veered sharply from our normal dining experience. The "plates" were served in takeout fold-over boxes with plastic forks. The meat itself was pretty much all adhered to bones. It was tender and delicious, but eating with our hands doesn't come naturally. So, I asked for a knife, and the sweet woman who takes the orders looked at me and said they don't have knives, and that we "just have to dig down into it". Indeed. She did give me a second plastic fork though, which I used. Nice workers. Authentic food. Huge portions. New experience which we all enjoyed.

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.
