IMO this place is overrated. I waited for 30 mins in line after ordering over the phone and seeing my order sit there for a good 20 mins while I waited to pay. I ordered the Rueben which was decent actually but felt it was a super small portion. I also ordered the minestrone - not bad but the broth was more like hot water - not super flavorful. Hate to be so bitchy, winey, etc - fact is my wife's sandwich was much worse - I guess it was a Turkey mushroom sandwich. From what I understand the mushrooms may have been canned? Not sure I'd use anything but fresh sauté d mushrooms for a sandwich like that - so there u go. The wait, w/canned shrooms and weak soup and the WAIT with the WAIT and one person running the check reg when people are lined up out the door while people are ordering lemonade - which requires the 1 person working the reg to run and get the lemonade each time -wasn't working. Price is very reasonable, and for the families out there, they do have peanut butter & jelly on the kids menu(surprising how hard that is to find in a sandwich shop) and the PB&J was given two thumbs up from my picky daughter. Great sandwiches. We spent the day in McCall today. Stopped in Stax for a sandwich. WOW. I had the Gobbler (turkey that melted in your mouth, tomato, lettuce, cheese and red onion). Being I am trying to cut back on meat in my diet, I choose the crab salad sandwich. Kept it like what was on the menu. Added the tamotoe soup, which had good flavor but was more acidic than my stomace could deal with. So after finishing the soup I had to pop 2 pepsids and try to make thing all better. Huge portions and excellent sandwiches. The crab sandwich was really good (made with real crab)...we got the large portion and it was so rich it was difficult to finish. Unless you can eat a lot of really rich food, I'd recommend the small portion or splitting it with someone. We also had the French Dip -- REALLY tasty! While this has always been one of the local best places for lunch, it has really gone downhill! We had lunch there today and while we were so excited going in, we were so disappointed going out. I had a grilled cheese sandwich that while the bread was fresh, had a single slice of cheese on it and was almost tasteless. Menu board and walk up counter service. Staff was very friendly. Prep area was very clean. Nice selection of sandwiches and four house made breads to choose from. A few house made soups by the cup or bowl. My wife had the vegan and I had the Ruben, hers on wheat, mine on rye. Both were fresh and excellent. My pastrami was lean, rare and flavorful. Wow is this a gem in McCall. We went to many good places in McCall this one being our favorite. It's a cute building on a corner with outdoor seating and indoor. It's a lunch place so it won't be open in the evening. I got the crab melt which is like grilled cheese with crab though. This is real crab they have here and it's amazing!
