Went here with disgusting frequency during the college years and man oh man, it never steered me wrong. Wait staff is constantly changing, but when we were there a lot of our friends worked there since they're 24/7 and can accommodate a lot of hours around college classes. Typical greasy spoon, but I'd say 4 out of 5 trips to Steak N Egg leave you with some ridiculous story about the drunk guy at the end of the counter. Definitely better after 12am. Try the hashbrowns with ham and cheese and the bacon egg and cheese sandwich. read more

I really really REALLY wanted this to be amazing but it wasn't... Dirty, poor service, bit pricey, cold food... I wouldn't care about the first three if the food was good but when even biscuits & gravy are cold... there are problems. Guy working kept walking away when we were trying to place our order so we didn't bother complaining. The name is quite descriptive. You get Steak and Eggs. And boy! Do you get it! These guys sell a 16-oz all meat, no bone steak and eggs to die for. The cook looks like a DJ mixing along a groove. They have something called funnel cake fries that are awesome. Nice staff. Decent food. Word of advice though, if you're going during the cold months, you may have to be patient. This hole in the wall is like waffle house but with better food. The ingredients are fresh and the food was well seasoned! The place is small, and you will leave smelling like fried food, but its totally worth it. I got the steak and eggs with the extra thick malt waffle. All cooked to perfection. This is probably the best late-night dinner hole-in-the-wall spot in DC. The steak always comes out great, the service is always phenomenal, and the biscuits are amazing. Coming to steak and eggs from later night festivities is a refreshingly welcome experience. The normal steak and egg is great especially when you substitute the toast with biscuits. I had the country fried steak the last time I came here and the biscuits went so well with the gravy. 10/10 recommend. read more

A buddy took me here after a concert to get some food. I said I was hungry and he took me 30 minutes out of the way to get here, said he's been going here for 20 years. He said it was just good old fashioned diner food. He was right, that's exactly what it is. It's not gourmet, it's not the best you've ever had, not even close. But it's some good cheap diner food that tastes good and fills you up. Everyone there is nice, and while it's pretty cramped, and chaotic, that's the charm about it. It is delicious little guilty treat for you to enjoy - especially as a late night snack. The place is usually better during or after midnight. Why? The cook was a pro with preparation and timing which made it entertaining to watch from the counter. The restaurant itself is small but the counter is where you want to sit. I've been eating at Steak 'n Egg since 1999. Now that I work in the area, I frequent there but the service has gone down. This morning, I was rushing so I called in my order. I ordered veggie sausage, egg and cheese with a side of hash browns. Yesterday I got the same sandwich and paid $5.75. Today with a side of hash browns, I paid $11.59 and I don't know who's sandwich this is but it's not veggie sausage. So I was overcharged and given the wrong food. I have a hard time justifying paying much for foods that are made from simple preparation of common ingredients. It typically think that preparation and uniqueness is worth paying/waiting. Osman's really does not fit into that category, and yet I find the food such a draw. Combine the freshly cooked (I got country fried steak and eggs) with the 24hr operation of this diner, and I think there is something to be celebrated here. My steak was so fresh (the hot kind), not too greasy (which is all too common for dinner eggs and hash), and the toast was crispy yet soft at the core. Really like the freshness of the simple ingredients. Is it worth it? It's the type of business and product that makes you think other things could taste just as good; so yea.. Frequently visited 24hour joint in the D.C. Area, and the food is "exceptional" this is just my humble opinion I'm sharing publicly, I'm not trying to knock the place, because again, it's maybe 1 or 2 places in D.C. That do 24 hour breakfast, HOWEVER my experiences here were not too great. I usually call in my order to prevent the wait, BUT my call ins always take 30mins which is understandable, very popular spot, BUT my most recent visit, it literally took 1HOUR for my food to be prepared, AFTER calling it in, and it was 5 identical sandwiches(sausage egg/cheese) figured it would not be a huge hassle. After been told it's almost ready several times, waiting around in the store and after the one hour I requested a refund, which I received however not an apology for the strenuous wait. Won't be venturing here no longer, customer service counts . Again, just MY opinion. read more

I experienced the best breakfast of my life here! I got the old south country breakfast, my friend got the country friend steak and eggs, and we shared a stack of the blueberry pancakes. All of this was amazing! We had no complaints afterwards. We got our food in a decent amount of time. I highly, highly recommend the biscuits and gravy! This is the best breakfast place I've found in DC. Bigger portions than Waffle House. Loved the corn beef hash. Pancakes were perfect.

I'd rather stop at CVS and get a nice packaged pastry of sorts. Strong stomach? You're fine. Frat boys love this shit and it's the hot spot if you're looking to chill with some drunk/ stoned AU students. Otherwise, don't use your fucked up, post-beer chugging dimwit head to decide to hit this establishment unless you'd like to profusely vomit on your way home. I've never eaten here not wasted. Grease, salt, and a quaint space where you're inches from strangers. That's why people come here. The food is nothing to write home about, but if you just want any of the above 3 ingredients or a hat that says "I don't speak English" (which is great for visiting tourists) then this place is ok. Always open for late night eats, and now with outdoor eating in the summer. It only seats about 8 people total inside. The prices are low, but you can get better food at home even if you don't cook. read more

My only complaint is the service universally is slow, whether the place is packed or if you're the lone soul in the restaurant. Sometimes the server needs you to remind them what you ordered. i've lived about a 15 minute walk away from osman & joe's for the four years that i've lived in dc and only just made my first trip there about a week ago. and to be honest, i don't think i missed much. the menu is chocked full of all the greatness of that comes with griddle cooking...full of grease and fatty goodness. my friend ordered the paul bunyan (eggs, turkey sausage links, hash and toast) and i had the corned beef hash and eggs with eggs and toast. now, i love me a good plate of hash. so much can be done with it...extra spice and herbs, with a nice crunch to it. unfortunately, this version seemed to just be plopped out of a can and heated up a bit. it didn't taste bad, but i could've done that myself. i'm not sure what i really expected, but i know it was more than what i got. but what really makes osman & joe's is the outdoor patio and the fact that they're open late late late. i mean, coming home from a night of good natured debauchery, nothing is better than a greasy plate of food. too bad for us, we decided to visit o&j on the hottest dc day this year and the servers (deservedly so) shut down the patio since they just couldn't keep up in the heat...so we didn't actually experience it. i don't know if i'd make the effort to head out just for osman & joe's, but if things just happen to work out, i wouldn't be opposed to another meal. read more
