SteakNEgg is classic with a broad breakfast, sandwich, burger, supper menu with sides ranging from funnel cakes to biscuits and gravy. Be it 1 PM or 1 AM you won't be disappointed. I have two boys and we want a boys night out or just time to chat two or all three of us will hit the SteakNEgg for a milkshake and burger. This place is amazing for the sole reason that it is open 24 hours in a surprising part of town. When tipsy on a Thursday and craving breakfast and resisting the idea of going all the way to Adams Morgan for some Diner, Steak n Egg fit the bill perfectly. However, their servers were snippy and didn't have any sense of humor. I guess they think they have to be a hardass to every single person who comes in after 1 AM but myself and company were totally coherent, no need to treat us like children (although I'm sure some guests, myself at times, require that treatment). Also, the prices are out of this world. I did not understand why so expensive! In the end, the food hit the spot and I'm sure I will return next time I'm in the neighborhood at a late night hour but wouldn't come otherwise. read more

Delicious! You walk into a small diner that has maybe seven seats facing the kitchen. The food is cooked right in front of you, with the cooks flipping the eggs and making the hash browns right before your eyes. I got the Mexican hash, which was basically glorified chilli cheese fries. But it was delicious! Very tasty, my friends also had really good food, the corned beef hash being a favorite. I'm going to break apart the meal piece by piece to explain my experience. 1. The biscuits were in the freezer and he slapped them on the griddle. Needless to say, they werent freshly made and had a refrigerator taste to them. 2. The gravy was tasty, but it wasn't the best I've had. 3. The eggs were supposed to be cooked over-easy but he cooked one of them all the way to fried. -__-. Seriously dude? 4. The turkey bacon was the toughest bacon ive ever eaten in my life. I could not believe it. It literally tasted like card board. -__-. 5. I shouldn't have played myself and order the turkey sausage either. I know that turkey sausage is not as flavorful as pork, but goodness, they weren't tasty AT ALL. It was pretty gross actually. 6. Homefries - they were pretty good. They don't measure up to Bus Boys and Poets' in the LEAST bit. I was like o_O WTF. ANOTHER thing that happened that turned my stomach immediately was as soon as the cook put my food down (we were in doors) and MOTH landed in the gravy. WTF is a moth doing in a restaurant?! My husband and we're visiting from out of town and decided to try something off the beaten path. I looked up Osman and Joe's and excitedly persuaded my husband to go here. The restaurant itself is really and outdoor table set up, nothing fancy, but I thought it charming. There is a small bar inside but I didn't get to to see it. We walked up and put our names on the waitlist;it was Father's Day but not crazy busy...just steady. The people there all seemed to be enjoying their meals which looked delicious. It took about 15minutes for us to get seated and our order was quickly taken. 5 minutes later we got our drinks. That's when crap hit the fan. I sipped my juice pretty slowly but it was gone with no refill offered and no update 45 minutes later. I ordered French toast, bacon, and eggs. That's not a long order to make. As we looked around we noticed no one else had any food either. They repeatedly bought out bags of food for to go orders and the natives got restless. One guy followed the waitress and told her he would be leaving and the drinks he had would be on the house. Her response,"Sir, it's not my fault." No apology, no explanation. Her give a damn was broken and it was obvious. I'm 5 months pregnant and all things considered (heat as it approached noon outside, hunger, and let's be real pregnant people are a bit off kilter) I kept my cool. After an hour my husband asked about our order after flagging down the waitress. She said,"Let me check." 1 minute later she brings our food. It was warm but not hot which leads me to believe it had been sitting. Food was okay. My husbands 16 oz steak was more like 6oz and I'm not exaggerating. I can forgive a lot but will never be back here and advise you not to visit. If only they gave updates, refills, or some form of empathy, the experience would've been much better. I know kitchens get busy but the customer service was horrible. The Osman and Joe's I read about that got rave reviews is a thing of the past and I wish I'd experienced it. Never again. read more

Stopped in around 1am during a Lindy hop exchange and was so impressed! The restaurant itself is tiny, only a handful of counter stools for seating in front of an open kitchen, but there is a patio with ample picnic table seating if it's a nice night. The service was friendly and fairly quick, considering that the counter was full before a couple dozen hungry dancers poured in. I probably waited 10-15 minutes. My food was phenomenal-fluffy scrambled eggs (whole eggs cracked in front of you, not frozen from a carton) with spinach and cheese (perfect amount of both), plus hash browns, especially tasty bacon, and toast. My friend commented that hash browns aren't typically her thing, but she liked these. Good coffee, and everyone else's food looked great too. Will definitely be back to visit. read more

Living in Arlington, it's been a long time since I had been there, but this past Saturday I found myself there again, waiting to grab a stool at the counter. The place is small, but that's just the type of place it is, a small spot for a quick and great greasy breakfast. We did have to wait, but we were seated rather quickly as the turnover there seems to be pretty quick. There were three of us too, so it wasn't just me waiting for an open spot either. The service was quick, the food was quick, and both were great. I ordered the cheese eggs with hash browns, toast, and bacon. Nothing special to most, but the quickness and the quality spoke volumes of why this place is a staple among the breakfast culture of DC. The price for an entire meal is on the lower end of the moderate scale, around $10-$13 once you include tip. One thing I love about the place is their hash browns, usually in DC they're always home fries or potatoes or whatever. You can actually get shredded hash browns which I really enjoy as I grew up a Waffle House kid in the south eating them all the time. My fiance and I pretty much love any place that's 24 hours--especially if it serves breakfast 24 hours. We'd driven past this place for years, though only just finally got a chance to try it (for a late night snack, when we had some friends over during the 4th of July!). This place is unpretentious, has delicious (typical greasy spoon) foods, and was fairly reasonably priced (well, more than I'd like, but about the same as IHOP)--which is a win in my book! Our party ordered several different dishes, including a country fried steak and eggs, grits, bacon, etc...and everyone seemed happy with their food. I had a steak egg and cheese sandwich, myself, and I was rather pleased with it. My fiance and I also split a coffee oreo shake, which was pretty tasty. Cleanliness isn't this place's forte, or service, for that matter, but there's a basketful of condiments on the table, and a roll of paper towels. Be honest, you're not here for some dressy experience anyhow! All in all, your typical diner/greasy spoon--IHOP without the franchise feel. It's a wonderful diner with all the classic diner hits- my favorite is basically a massive dessert: pancakes with ice cream. Their milkshakes are also the best in the area and are wonderfully thick. Kinda lame for winter weather, but it's not a big deal. Yeah, so if you're looking for table seating, this is not the place to go, unless it's warm so you can sit outside. The food was quite awesome and seemed fresh. I had a hard time deciding between an omelet, waffles, chili cheese dog, jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, philly cheese steak... I could go on and on.
