10/5/24 My cousin and I both African-American women stopped by the Steak n' Egger diner on 1174 W. Cermak Rd. Chicago IL 60608 around 4pm ish in hopes of a turk burger we entered the diner the older Hispanic waitress said that can sit anywhere, my cousin polit asked the waitress "Do you guys serve turkey burgers here? The waitress said "yes we do" now the place was empty the only people there were the waitress, caucasian male cook and one gentleman sitting at the counter, so I know for a fact the waitress heard the question clearly, my cousin asked politely "Is it OK if I use the restroom? the waitress said "yes" |stayed in the front looking at the menu, I don't see turkey burgers so I asked the waitress "are the turkey burgers on a different menu? she said "no we just have turkey sausage and turkey bacon" I was a little perplexed, 10 seconds ago you said you guys serve turkey burgers but I kept that thought in my head, so I walked to the bathroom to tell my cousin they only have turkey sausage & turkey bacon here no turkey burgers so when my cousin came out the bathroom, she also looked at the menu and said "well let's just go somewhere else because we really want turkey burgers" so we politely thank the waitress for letting my cousin use the bathroom and we started to go out the front door. The Hispanic waitress made a nasty comment saying "if you just wanted to use the restroom you should've went somewhere else" so I immediately turned & replied "we did not only come in here to use the restroom, we came in here to order turkey burgers to which you said that you guys serve so who's at fault? I don't appreciate you insinuating that" the Caucasian male cook immediately picked up a cleaver knife motioning to throw it at me and said "get your fucking black nigger asses out of here" I calmly said "if you throw that at me, that would be the last thing you throw" So in conclusion clearly, the employees there are extremely racist & I will be calling corporate. read more

We have been coming here for years now when ever we can, but today was not it. First of all, 5 dollars for the smallest cup or horchata is a robbery. Second, the portions, especially in the early day or morning are terrible. More then half the bowl was empty, and the portions are never consistent. Finally, the employee taking care of us was using her BARE hands to grab the toast and handle all of our food. No sign of hygiene. I Didn't even let my girlfriend eat the toast after that. I know this isn't a steak house or fine dinning, but I know there is room for improvement here. read more

I will never return to this place I would go to for lunch even if it's walking distance from work. I got ripped off with a hidden service charge I was not told about. When asked for an explanation all I got was a "It's kind of like the tip." They told me that orders to go $25 or more automatically get charged a convenience fee. My order was under $25 and still got charged. They argued with me, made me mad, and did not give me my service charge back. Furthermore, I was told that even if I had separated my 3 orders for 3 separate people to go I'd still would have gotten charged the fee because it would be under the same ticket. My co workers and I will no longer go there for lunch. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant since 2010, and they had never treated us Bad as they did today , You cannot put a waitress with a "FIGHTER" attitude. The waitress according to her name is Maritza who is on the morning shift today, Thursday, August 11, 2022, she takes our order SITTING from another table, shouting what else do you want? What more are you going to ask for? What else? Very rude which annoyed us and we decided to leave, we go to the register to cancel the order and the waitress made us an annoyed face, which we said that we canceled the order because of the terrible service of the waitress Maritza and she answered shouting: oh poor girl!! In a sarcastic and very rude way, it can't be that they speak like that to a client inside the restaurant, they had never treated us like that, Bad service! I visited this place on 3/22... not only did I call in immediately after we received the order to let them know that they had given us a bad steak, which was tough. It couldn't even be eaten and that it was dry like it had been sitting on the grill all day the first person that I spoke to. I believe her name is Rosie. She told me that I could not get the food replaced until TERRY was there. I called back after 2 PM at her request not to get anyone on the line except their voicemail. I called and called for several days in regards to this order for my money to be refunded to me because they were not able to remake it. I spoke to Rosie again who keeps referring me over to someone by the name of TERRI, who obviously never works on the days specified I then finally get a chance to speak to. I believe her name is DONNA the manager with the nasty attitude about the food, and she tells me she can guarantee that she . I was not sold a old steak because they cook their food fresh daily. Well, I have proof that you didn't do that this steak was not freshly made. The hotcakes had a weird taste. The eggs were overcooked If I could give this place a zero star I definitely would have, and I absolutely would not recommend this place to anyone!!! I knew going in it would be just ok. I even got worse than that. Tbone is tough, ordered medium. Some grissel here and there. Had some flavor. Just ok. Eggs ordered OE..got them OM. Ordered the hashbrowns well done and what I got was hashbrown mash. Showed the waitress, toward the end of my meal when I asked for more coffee. She said they used too much butter. I would have almost been ok until I realized she never came back. She talked to Paul and all the old, bored, and tired regulars..hey what about me? Can I have some more coffee to wash down this crappy steak and buttery mash hash? The prices are also higher than the pdf menu you download from the website. I suggest a breakfast sandwich to go. This place is very good! I ordered the ribeye steak with eggs, and two pancakes for $9.99 it was phenomenal. Their steak is cooked great and has so much flavor and the pancakes are very good. My fiancé had the 3 breakfast 3 pancakes, 3 eggs, 3 sausage patties and 3 bacon strips it was $8 and some change. Everyone is very nice here too! Our new late night spot. read more

WARNING. I went for breakfast at this place and noticed the waitress had a fresh tattoo on the top of her hand. Not only was it still oozing fluid but she wasn't wearing gloves. We did not get the chance to try the food, the service was that bad. I called for take-out and was hung up on the first time. I assumed it was an accident and called back. Something unusual happens here around 12:30 am. That's when we stopped by. It was quiet in the diner and every chair was empty except for the ones next to the southern window. Over there, every single booth was occupied with older gentlemen, each wearing some combination of hat, suit, jewelry, and bookish glasses. When we walked in, they all ceased conversation and looked at us is if we were interrupting an important discussion. A photo of the scene (most likely taken from outside the window looking in from across the street) could have plausibly carried the subtitle "Aldermen meet to make ward arrangements over midnight coffee." Besides the suspicious activity carrying on across the room, our meal was quiet and enjoyable. I had a simple late night breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon on gravy. It was cheap and fast. Once the fellows figured out we weren't listening in ob whatever they were scheming, they paid us no mind and we gave up on our conspiracy theories. Definitely the place to go for the bang for the buck. Came here semi hungry and left super stuff! You can get a great meal deal with anything you order. We both got steak & eggs and it came with hash browns or pancakes and toast. Of course we both got hash browns and you can even customize it s bit for a low cost. With my hash browns, I got onions and green peppers which was a great idea on my end. We both asked for medium rare but my boyfriend's t-bone came out fully cooked while my skirt steak was cook to perfection. I guess I had the better end of the deal because my hash browns were even more crunchier than his. But definitely what I call a cheap eat to have a whole full meal. Cute little diner too. Pretty much what you'd expect: diner breakfast food for a very reasonable price. You can get pretty much any steak breakfast for $10. The meat is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper, and everything is grilled on the same griddle. A few things make this place stand above something like a Waffle House: -We saw an employee making homemade pico. You gotta have some of that! It's citrusy and oniony and absolutely amazing -The hash browns...at first glance, they look average. But my theory for their secret is that they cook the potatoes on the griddle that they cook the steaks on. So the hash browns have an amazing flavor. Definitely best I've ever had Other than the pico and the hash browns, this is a standard breakfast diner. Enjoyed my experience! read more
