When you go to Steak 'n Shake, you kind of know what you are in for. Today we actually stopped at two different steak and shakes. The first one at just before 1 PM was very crowded and had a 20 minute wait to sit down. As we were driving down the highway we decided to stop at the next one we ran into. We ended up driving about an hour to find the next Steak 'n Shake in Fort Wayne. We eagerly pulled off the road to get our fill. We finally figured out that because the kids eat free promotion is on Saturday and Sunday, this steak and was busy at even 2 PM. This time we decided to wait. We didn't wait long and we got our table and placed our order. I had the Chicago style foot-long meal and it was great. I always wonder why the hot dogs are so thin, but they do taste great. This place is the reason McDonald's will continue to strive. At 5:00 am I really only have two options for breakfast. That's McDonald's and Steak 'n Shake which ironically does not serve breakfast type food until 6:00 am. Anywho there was a semi in the drive thru maybe to stock the place up, cool no biggie I'll go inside. Inside there is a table of three that is it. So I place my to go order cause I do have to make my way to work. I sit down play on my phone a bit I see burgers in the grill and I'm thinking sweet he slapped my order on there too. Boy was I wrong. It was about 15 minutes into my wait that I look up and noticed there hasn't been a thing on the grill in about 5 minutes. A total of 20 minutes has passed by before he pressed the button to start my order. Well needless to say I'm out 8 bucks and for breakfast gonna have a nice microwavable chicken pot pie. I've visited the drive thru two times and the initial visit took over a half hour with three cars in front of me. Second time with two cars in front of me and it took just as long, and I just left before I got to the window. What's going on inside this place? Are they short handed or what? This had been one of the best Steak and Shakes around. We have gone there frequently and always had quick service and good food. We stopped in again on Dec. 8th around 4:30 or so. Not very busy yet. It took 20 minutes for us to be waited on and that was after I ask the hostess if we had a waitress. The waitress took our drink order and food order. We got our drinks in a timely matter. We watched as numerous other patrons came and left after they were not waited on. Twenty minutes later we got our food. Very greasy fries this time. The waitress didn't seem to really care about her service or her cleanliness. My husband talked to the manager and his response was "I'm sorry." No offer to compensate us for bad service. Needless to say this place has really gone down hill and will not be seeing us back any time soon. read more

My family loves Steak 'n Shake. The food is usually good (though it suffers if things get too busy), and with coupons, half price happy hour for drinks and shakes, and $4 meals, it is quite an affordable place to get a generous amount of food. The burgers and melts, fries, and shakes are the way to go. The chicken fingers are okay too, though the portion on those is absurdly small for the adult meal. Stay away from the salads--this isn't the place to go for healthy food! read more

Okay I know it's Steak n Shake and believe me, we didn't have high expectations (we went there for the kids) but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was worth the money - nothing crazy - had the prime Frisco and kids had the burger and grilled cheese. We were super impressed with the service. Sondra was our server and you could tell she had lots of kid experience. Without asking, she brought crackers and peanut butter for them (even asked about allergies first), put items far out of reach from our 1 yr old, split the shake automatically and she was super friendly and checked in often. Terrible experience. We came in off the highway thinking we would grab a quick bite to eat. We ended up having to wait 45 minutes for our food. After waiting 30 minutes the waitress finally told us they were shorthanded for the afternoon. They should've told us that right away so that we could've gone somewhere else. When ordering our food, the order taker was rude. When we asked for a flavored shake, she just said we don't have that. Not I'm sorry, we no longer offer that item. This happened three times so my wife said just forget the shake. We ordered a #1, a #9 and a kids meal and two shakes. One chocolate, one cookie dough. At the window the lady was rude to us again. Enough so that my daughter said to me why is she such a bitch. Received our food but no shakes. When she finally came back to the window I told her we still need our shakes, she slammed the window. After waiting a short time she gave us the shakes. Since the location is close to the highway we got on and headed for home about an hour north. We started to eat our food. I said mine is nasty like it's old and over cooked. Then my wife and daughter said the same things about theirs. If we were not on the highway I would have asked for replacements. We continued and ate our food. I then took a drink of my "chocolate" shake to find out they only put a very small amount of chocolate at the bottom and did not mix it up. It's one thing to a problem with one item on an order but to be spoken rudely to, forgot our order, slam the window in our face, burnt nasty burgers and a very small amount of chocolate and not mix it is another. We also did not receive our receipt, only the one that comes with your food. No dollar amount listed. We payed almost $30.00 for the meal. The manager should be ashamed on how the location is being run. With that type of service, customers are going to stop coming and this location will close soon like the Auburn location. Coming home from a funeral, tired and hungry, we thought Steakburgers would hIt the mark. Anxious to get home, I tried ordering on-line while my husband was driving. Selected items, then tried to submit. Sorry, online ordering not available. So I called. The person who answered said she'd have to get a waitress to take my to-go order. After a few minutes on hold, a guy came on and said they couldn't take orders on the phone. By that time we were close to the restaurant so we went to the drive through. We asked for an extra order of fries. We should have checked the bag, because when we got home we found we were charged for the fries but did not get them. We tried calling to complain, but after THREE times with LONG times of the phone ringing, no one answered (well, why should they? - they don't take phone orders anyway). This is the first time I have ever left a review for anything online. The service and food was so terrible that I feel like I have no choice but to. When I first pulled up to the speaker to order the person taking my order could not seem to understand what I was saying. I asked them to repeat my order twice and they got it wrong both times. Pulling up I watched two cars drive away after dealing with the same issue. The wait was then a half an hour, after I got the food it was soggy cold and they forgot my drink. I work 2.5 miles from the Illinois rd location. I decided to try their drive threw. BIG mistake!!! I sat in that drive threw with 2 cars ahead of me for 30 minutes! I was on my lunch break on a Saturday 7-22-17 at 2pm and by the time I got my order there was no time to eat it and I was late returning back to work. Yes my lunch break is only 30 minutes but seeing that I work just 5 minutes away I thought it was a good idea. On top of that when I did get back to work and open my bag the order was wrong. Went in for the first ever(I'm from back east) on our way out of town. It was an interesting experience. We were seated promptly and got drinks quickly. After that, it was a nightmare. My family and I recently went to this particular steak and shake, we generally go to the on on coldwater. I had the worse service I have ever had at a steak and shake. First the waitress too 15 minutes to come to our table to get our drink orders. She then too another 20 minutes to take our meal orders. My childrwn asked at least 3 times for crayons and the cats they give out to children, they were told that there were none. Not eveb 5 minutes later a family say next to us and their children had crayons and cars.
