Steak 'n Shake has become a little family tradition for us whenever we visit Las Vegas. Of course, there are probably places with better burgers, but for us, this place is also about the memories and enjoying something familiar together. We especially like coming during happy hour so we can enjoy the shakes at half price. The service was very fast, the staff was friendly, and the food tasted exactly the way we remembered it. One thing to know is that the fries here are very thin and crispy. We actually like them that way and usually end up using a lot of ketchup with them. The three of us had another fun meal here, and afterward we went upstairs to the movie theater and enjoyed a movie. Date of visit: June 12, 2026 I wanted to take my mom for dinner and a little gambling during her visit and when my initial plans for dinner fell through, we hit up South Point to do both at the same time. Since she had never been to a Steak n Shake before, this seemed like a quick and easy way to get some food (and a shake) before a little wasting of money. The entire experience was not great. While we were seated quickly, the service was very slow. Robert--our server--was nice, but was MIA for the majority of the meal. While the restaurant was steady, it wasn't packed and I didn't even see him for large stretches of time. Our shakes (Reese's and Butterfinger) were both good, and quite large which was nice given that they were $8.45. But my burger sliders (or shooters) as they are called, were very underwhelming. The Frisco was decent, but the barbecue one had just a tiny dollop of sauce on it, and the third was so unremarkable I can't even recall what it was. I've always loved DTLV for its cheap deals but in recents years it hasn't been the case anymore. Even though Steak 'n Shake is a newer establishment inside the Fremont Casinos new food hall they always offer the $5.99 Special Combo! If you order all this a la carte, it will be considerably more pricey which I've seen so many people making the mistake of doing. I was pleasantly surprised after trying Steak n Shake for the first time. I ordered the Original Double 'n Cheese Steakburger, but opted for cheddar cheese and grilled onions. It was very good, honestly slightly better than in n out in my opinion... (controversial I know). At the very least, it's a nice variety of flavor that puts it in contention. My only complaint is that they are unable to offer the burger as medium or medium rare and will only do "well done". Regardless, I still enjoyed it. Also nice to know that they use beef tallow for the fries now, so I was told. Didn't realize they were a sit down & order establishment, so that was nice. The menu says they use beef tallow for their fries and tots but to be honest I couldn't tell the difference, but they were tasty. Still the same as my review back in 2018: I love eating here every time I come to South Point! It's not as expensive as Shake Shack and a meal here is not as small and In and Out. I grew up with Steak n Shake and this is the best one left! Everything tasted like it did 20 years ago....authentic and nostalgic... The chili was so good! The best smash burger with a thick slice of onion and long half sliced pickles! I also loved the mushroom burger as well! The sweet tea tasted just like the fresh brewed kind I had in Mississippi. They have a dedicated window with plentiful bench seating for take out orders. On my last visit I had the Original Double N Cheese Steakburger. It came with shoestring fries and was only $8.45! I requested lettuce wrap and they were happy to oblige. The burger comes with mayo, mustard, ketchup, sliced pickles, tomatoes, onion, and lettuce. My dining companion ordered a triple cheeseburger plain and dry and it arrived as ordered. We ordered a cup of chili topped with cheese & onions to split and agreed it was a good chili. Rich and meaty. Not as good as homemade, but nothing is, right? My dining companion ordered a chocolate covered strawberry shake and said it was the best shake he's ever had! It was a pretty burger, the bun was a bit smaller in order to show off the "larger" patty and cheese, tomato and lettuce showed too. Now I would have preferred a thicker patty, it tends to be more cooked medium and usually juicier, and more flavorful. Fries accompanied the burger but served on a separate plate, matchstick fries. My daughter loves these little guys, I find them flavorless. I also ordered a small side of Onion Rings, these were your standard thicker cut, get 'em anywhere breaded rings. They would not sub onion rings for fries even if you paid the difference...fine. Food was out timely but I felt that order sat in the pick up window as my burger, fries, onion rings were just warm. We came here as a family in hopes to get our grub on with some burgers and shakes. I ordered a classic Angus with fries, my husband ordered a mushroom burger with fries, and we ordered a sliders plate with fries for our toddler. We also shared a strawberry milk shake. Portions of everything were smaller. Less meat patty, less tomato and lettuce, less fries, and even less milkshake. Before the pandemic, when you ordered a shake you got a beautiful milkshake with an accompanying tall silver glass of "extra shake." We went to steak 'n Shake to have a nice meal. We ordered our food and we were told it's going to take seven minutes as we ordered a chicken burger as well. The seven minutes came and went about 25 minutes later I go up and ask them what is going on. They told me again. It takes seven minutes for chicken to cook. I told them it's been 25 minutes! The people inside the restaurant seemed to be not capable of running it very well at all the guys in back we're looking at me and my husband through the whole experience, smiling and giggling that did not make us feel comfortable at All in total it took about 30 minutes to get our food this whole time I went up a couple times inquiring about our meal. The food was comparable to a hamburger you would get at a carnival. Was not very good by the time we did get our meal we were both upset and we felt that we were being laughed at by the people behind the countertop. My husband and I have been married for almost 18 years now and very seldom Have we experienced being treated the way that we were that day. I will never ever eat in this restaurant again nor will I eat at the taco shop next-door, which we ate at before and the food was awful as well. The area was dirty. The tables were dirty. We always eat here whenever we are at Southpoint Hotel in Las Vegas. This place will never disappoint. Came here when we were so hungry and their shakes were half off Sundays to Thursday from 2pm to 5pm and we ordered banana shake and it was so good! Not too sweet, reminded me of the banana shake I used to have when I was little- just mixed the banana with milk and ice and placed it in the blender. I think they have the most delicious onion rings that I have tasted. They have six dollar burgers and it already comes with French fries. Their burgers are big. I think this is one of the best burger places that I have been to. Casual dining- it gives you the retro old American restaurant ambience.
