Steak & Shake - Butter Single Steakburger and Beef Tallow Fries
    Diane H.

On a whim, my dining companion and I decided to visit Steak & Shake. I think we were motivated by a billboard touting beef tallow fries. Unlike days of old, there is no counter staff to take your order any longer. There are several computer kiosks with which to enter your order. It takes time! It was so easy to order a burger, shake and fries. Now you have to select the burger and then the toppings, the fries, then the drink and by the time you order the second meal, someone is like wait I have to go back and fix my order. By the time you're done, it's been five minutes. Our name was called, and we picked up the drinks. A banana shake and a chocolate shake. Neither was ordered with whipped cream or a cherry, but the banana shake arrived with the whipped cream and cherry. A check of the receipt shows, we didn't pay extra for it, though there is an upcharge for them. No matter, the shakes were thick and creamy. Exactly what you want from a shake. A few minutes later, the burgers were ready. We ordered an Original Double Steakburger with Cheese and Beef Tallow Fries and a Butter Single Steakburger and Beef Tallow Fries. Our name was called a second time and the rest of the meal was ready to be retrieved from the counter. The burgers were juicy and delicious, as were the fries. I couldn't discern a difference between the way Steak and Shake's fries used to be prepared and the beef tallow fries they are serving now. This was a budget friendly meal for under $20.00 and the service was swift. Steak & Shake is a great option if you're nearby and in a hurry, minus the time it takes to make an order.

    No one to talk to.

Ordering was frustrating with the kiosk. The cook spent a lot of his time answering questions for people at the kiosk. The fries were greasy, and the hamburgers were even more so. We will not be back.

Food was good , They did away with the old catch up containers , They did away with veterans discount in Tallahassee. Stake and Shake wants people to remember and recognize the traditional food and logos that allowed them fame and fortune here in America , but not the U.S. veteran. On a public platform, and in real time I would like officially say Stake & Shake can kiss this veterans ass .

The kiosk could be a little more user friendly, had to swipe and press buttons harder than needed but was able to order everything we needed.

My daughter made mention chili was good but a lot of beans for her liking. But flavor was great! Also ordered Pastrami Ruben ( no burger patty) & onion rings with 2 dipping sauces for an up charge of $.75 cents each. Sandwich & onion rings were great. Our server was polite & attentive. Food came out in a timely manner. My only feedback would be when there is an up charge we should have been notified and asked if that is okay. I didn't mind paying for the sauces & all flats but it's customary and appropriate for the waitress/water to notify of additional charges. We will definitely be back though.

High volume, people constantly coming and going, and I can definitely see why it's a local favorite. Unfortunately, there were some misses. The floors were sticky, the tables were sticky, and our onion rings came out room temperature. The fries were soggy, also room temperature, and just didn't taste fresh. The burgers, though? Outstanding. My burger was seriously spicy--and I LOVED it. Easily the highlight of the meal. Service was friendly, but after asking for our check, we waited about 10 minutes and eventually had to get up and look for our waitress. Granted, they were crazy busy, so I understand--but it was still annoying. Overall, I can absolutely see why people love this place, especially for the burgers and friendly staff. It just wasn't enough for me to want to come back.

There is indoor and outdoor seating and a small bar area. The bar had a few people there. We looked over the accesible menus and ordered a classic and a shroom with sweet potato fries to share and two drinks. We went off to get our drinks from the dispensing machine, hubby got an Arnold Palmer and I wanted a Diet Coke, but the machine only dispensed brownish looking water instead of soda. I opted for black tea with a splash of lemonade instead. We chose a booth to sit at and the wait was about 10 minutes to get our fries to come and 10 more minutes to get our burgers. The food was good and even though the size of the burgers seemed on the smaller side we were totally satisfied. The fries were the best of it all, scrumptious and delicious with a slightly spicy dipping sauce. The price tag for the meal was $50.00 with the tip, a bit pricey in our view. The place wasn't loud, but the music playing was really indescifrable like we read in the reviews. There was no rhyme and rhythm to it. Hopdoddy burger bar is a nice place to eat, we liked the food.

Staff was amazing .They came by our table several times to ask if needed anything after bringing our order and drinks. Loved the cool vibe with bar and decor. Would easily return when in the area.

The restaurant was spotless, and the staff at the front counter were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. I also loved the patriotic atmosphere. The American flags and the seals representing all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces were a great touch and made the place feel unique. I ordered the double cheeseburger with pickles, grilled onions, ketchup, and mustard. I skipped the lettuce and tomato because of the recent Cyclosporiasis outbreak, which was just a personal preference. I also got an order of fries and their diet cola. Everything came out hot, just the way I like it. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The fries, with their light breading, were crispy and just as impressive. While the meal was a little on the pricey side, the quality of the food made it worth every penny. Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely be coming back. How can you tell if you are going to have a bad experience at a restaurant in the South?…read more There will be some signs I will share with you based on my recent visit to Big Randy's. Sign #1: Sweet tea brought to you is from a soda fountain and not fresh-brewed. Making fresh-brewed sweet tea does not cost much. The waitress admitted it to me. I cannot tell you how many times I have had an awful sweet tea from the tab and the the rest of the experience has gone downhill more times than stabilizing the sail. Sign #2: Buying ranch to go with your wings instead of at least being given an obligatory one. Wait...it gets worse...paying for a pre-packaged Ken's Ranch...not Ranch made in-house. Sign #3: BBQ sauce on your wings is Sweet Baby Ray's bought from the grocery store. That is what my wife received and I probably had Sweet Baby Ray's Gold on my overcooked wings. Sign #4: I haven't met many French fries I wouldn't eat but Big Randy's tested me. I couldn't eat them. They were like McDonald's fries except way too salty. My wife's fries had no salt. The only saving grace from a 1-star is at least they made my wings extra wet like I asked and the service was fine. That's how you earn a 2-star. Note: the fried pickles had more of a corn nugget batter and the floor was also very sticky.
