Arrived at 4PM. People waiting to be seated. The place was maybe 1/2 full with at least 10 or more tables/booth available. BUT, none of them had been cleared off and nobody was working on it. People began to leave without being seated. People already seated had ordered long ago and were receiving any food. More people started leaving. I also left after waiting 10 minutes and seeing nothing done by the Steak 'n Shake people. I noticed on my way to my car that the drive through was really backed up and people were leaving the car line as well. This is by far the worst experience I have had ever after years of being a Steak 'n Shake customer. This location has a major problem. read more

Honestly, this isn't the first time we have had bad service at this Steak 'n Shake but it will be the last. Entered the restaurant at 5:55pm on Saturday August 26th with my two kids and were seated promptly. Bus boy informed us that a waiter would be by shortly. We walked out of the restaurant at 6:15pm without one person coming by the table. Yet, a husband and wife were seated right next to us 5 minutes after us, had a waitress there in 2 minutes trying to figure out some stupid coupon where the lady wanted to get a specific type of free drink. She had their order taken, drinks delivered shortly before we walked out. Took my business to 5 Guys and will never return to the Steak n Shake in the Avenues again. I went in to order 2 shakes to-go, and it took over 15 minutes to get someone over to the cash register. There was a bunch of people in line and over 12 workers that I could see. Half of them were joking around with eachother near the back while others worked. No one acknowledged our existence. Luckily the shakes were good, but the whole process from walking in and out was nearly 30 minutes - and we drank our shakes in the car! Also, the place was absolutely disgusting. Who doesn't love steak 'n Shake.had lunch with a friend yesterday; She had a bacon cheeseburger and I had a double steak with cheese/loaded... As always. Well I have been here numerous times simply because my son loves the fries and shakes. I have given them many chances before giving them a review but they never change so here it goes. The service from the moment you enter Is where it begins. Waiting waiting and waiting you finally get a table. The servers are always friendly but so so slow. Once you order you will find yourself wondering where the heck is your food and how long could it take to make a simple hamburger. Once your food comes its decent, your typical fast food. Get ready to wait again once you get the bill. The lady at the register also Seats tables, cooks hamburgers, makes Shakes, and manages the restaurant. They are never in a hurry to take your Money because all you hear is "I'll be right with you". They need more people to deal with the drive thru The "restaurant" and the cash register. Went to Steak N Shake for dinner on Saturday Sept. 20, 2014. I have a mixed review. The food was great! Service was fast, but the girl at drive thru was not professional at all. She put my straw on her face as she explained to me why the price was not what was on the menu. She was upset when I asked for a new straw pointing out why. She was very rude about it, talked about me to other employees WHILE I WAS SITTING AT HER WINDOW... and when I asked for a manager, she didnt seem concerned about it at all. Employees must treat the customer with respect. We work hard for our money and it's painful to pay for others to disrespect us. But again, the swiss and mushroom burger was fantastic and a fairly quick delivery. read more

Great value for a sit-down meal. The milkshakes are delicious and they have some interesting combinations of flavors. We had cheeseburgers and fries. The fries are very thin. But the cheeseburgers are good. They don't ask how you want it cooked, it's like fast food with awesome shakes that taste as good as ice cream. read more

I remember in college, whenever we would pass a steak an shake my friends would freak out and get excited as it was supposedly "THE BEST PLACE EVER!!". I had never actually stopped at one until I moved to Florida and I have to stay, I am absolutely NOT impressed at all. The good- the staff are friendly and helpful.....that's it though, I have nothing else good to say. This place is over priced, slow and EXTREMELY greasy! This restaurant is terrible in several ways! The floors were sticky and the tables filthy! They had a ton of staff but no one was actually working. It took forever to order and forever to receive the food. Once the food was served it was ice cold and our waitress only came to the table at the end with the bill. I've been here a few times and everything was fine, but tonight I got there and I had an original double, it was really bad, the patty was dry, burned and tough. And the waitress was horrible too, didn't bring me the silver wares and didn't even ask me how everything was, things like that. Just dropped the food and left and never came back. read more

Unfortunately has gotten worse over the years. I remember this used to be a pretty decent joint to enjoy a burger and shake but now the negatives definitely outweigh the positives. For starters, I saw a review saying to give them another chance and I just stopped in tonight, long after that review was posted and the experience was horrible!! The place was so dirty. There is absolutely no reason for a restaurant to be in that condition when I saw at least 7 employees, and I'm sure there were more in the back. I understand that Saturday is a busy day but there were not that many other tables with guests. Most tables were covered in used plates, it took at least 20 minutes after we were seated for a staff member to begin clearing the tables around us. Yet, during the whole experience I did not see anybody attempt to sweep/mop the floor or wipe tables and chairs. The table I sat at was covered in soda stains and the bench next to me had droplets of spilled milkshake. There were straw wrappers and food everywhere and honestly the floor looked caked in dirt. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Our server was so rude and did not care about my table at all. She advised against us ordering any milkshakes because there was a pretty big wait for them; however one person of my three person party ordered a milkshake. Eventually we asked for the bill without ever receiving the milkshake and when we brought this to her attention she said he never ordered a milkshake even saying "I promise you, you did not order a milkshake." That's horrible customer service she couldn't have thought of anything better to say? On top of that, she never took our menus away, never refilled our drinks, and never gave us silverware or even napkins. One of us even brought paper towels back from the bathroom to use as napkins because nobody ever came to assist us. The waitress stopped by a total of 3 times l, at some point making a lazy apology saying "sorry I was on the register cashing in and... And you know." There were honestly so many other issues on top of this but this review is already getting too long. I wish I had taken pictures while I was there, I wasn't even intending on leaving a review until right before we exited. This is the worst steak and shake I have ever visited! This place is not run like a typical steak and shake. I often visit the steak and shake on Merritt Island which has always been a wonderful experience with staff, service and management. The steak and shake in Viera has always been a horrible experience with management, staff and service. One time the wrong order was brought to me and after I picked up the burger and put it back down on my plate I told the waitress it was the wrong order. She took it and put it up on the window and then pulled it back and took it to the correct table to someone else, who ultimately ate the hamburger that I handled in the fries of which I took a few from. If you go here, pay extra ordinary attention to how they handle the food besides the service not only to yourself and to others. I sure wish steak and shake would come in here and check it out for themselves different times of the day. read more

Steak and Shake is drunk food, when you don't want to spend money... The food is bland and not well made, it's a sit down fast food dinner. The service is usually decent orders frequently wrong but it doesn't matter you still come back when someone suggests it and you always leave disappointed. It's like a high school friend that didn't change after 15 years, you go to hang out with them but when it's all over you ask yourself if they were even fun in high school. read more

Sucks! Slower than dog doo. Have left twice before ordering because of long line. Have waited long time for my food when I did order. I think they are scammers too. I ordered one time and when I got to the drive thru window the worker asked me to pull up past the window so they could cook fresh fries for me. Only thing wrong with that is that I didnt order any fries. When I told her I didnt order fries she looked stunned. Then it still took 2 minutes for my order. There was no one behind me in line. I guessed that maybe they have a timer timing each order through the drive thru and they were trying to scam it by asking me to move up. I literally have never had such a bad experience at a fast food drive thru in my entire life. I arrived in the drive-through on March 9 at 9:55 PM was then told to wait a moment for my order. Once my order was placed it took 30 minutes from that time until I got up to the window and paid and then received the wrong food. I was obviously upset as I was coming home from work extremely tired and I have just waited half an hour in the drive-through so I go inside expecting them to fix my wrong order. I spoke with a young Lady upfront about the wrong order she said that they would replace it asked me what was special about it and the gentleman cooking stated "oh well that's going to take a minute" I try to control my anger and impatience as I had already waited half an hour in the drive-through for a wrong order so I sat and waited 20 more minutes inside the restaurant for my order to be remade and was asked about 5 different times while waiting what was special about my burger??? Once my order was handed to me 20 minutes later I go to my car realize they had a messed the order up again and I honestly did not have the patience to go back inside and ask for the correct burger as I had already been at the location for 50 minutes trying to place one simple order for a Wisconsin butter burger and fries add lettuce and tomato I decided to just take my wrong order and go home with a high disappointment in this location of Steak 'n Shake that I have never felt before. I should have asked for a refund for waiting so long but I know they wouldn't refund my money and let me keep the food and I was starving. I had arrived at 9:55 pm and left at 10:48 pm. The manager also seems to not care at all about the weight or the fact that orders were being messed up, as she was joking around with the entire crew distracting them making them laugh while customers around me are extremely upset and pissed off. I've had pleasurable experiences at Steak and Shake in other cities, so I assumed that this location would not be much different. It took me about five to ten minutes to be seated, and only a couple of minutes to order my meal. The major problem was that my chicken had a couple of hairs underneath them. When I notified my waitress, she was very apologetic. Even though I only asked for a replacement meal, she immediately had the manager come over and talked to me. The manager was apologetic and informed me I would not be charged for my meal. In addition, I was given a coupon for a shake. I definitely plan on retuning in the future. read more

Second visit to the Viera location and had about the same experience. A party of six just walked in right before us and they seated them all together by moving some tables together. They seated us utilizing a booth and a nearby table for the kids. We were happy to get seated and understood they were getting pretty busy. It took about 15 minutes for the waitress to come by and take our drink order. The time between the drink order and the food order was about 35 minutes. We did however notice most all the tables around us had their food. In fact, the table of six seated a couple minutes before we were seated had their food, finished it and were out of there BEFORE our food even arrived! The waitress didn't give us any silverware and when we asked, she said sorry but they ran out; but she did go somewhere and returned with our silverware (we were hoping they had been cleaned). Some of our burgers were just warm; almost cold. The waitress never asked us how we were doing or never made any mention of the long wait. We were actually calm and made it a point not to be rude although we felt our service was much less than steller. It appeared to us that this is business as usual and she could care less about our dining experience. We asked for ice cream to go and that was another mistake....that took another 15 minutes and then we still didn't have the bill to leave. The ice cream was mostly melted after all this too. When we paid I asked to talk with the manager and took him aside to be confidential. I explained our experience to him and he said that they were short handed today because people called in sick. He also said I should have asked for him during this ordeal and he could have done something. His response and reaction was an indication to us that he may have been a rookie manager and seemed to be blaiming us for the poor service. We will not spend our money there anymore and will reward other places nearby with our business. Their drive thru was very busy and we assumed they invest their time and resources to that instead of the dinning room. read more

We arrived about 10:30 p.m. and were seated immediately as there was almost nobody else there. We got the triple steak burgers with fries for $3.99 each, a chicken sandwich with fries, regular burger with fries, and a chocolate shake with four other drinks. The total was just under $30 not including the tip. Everything was fresh and good and the waitress was great. I highly recommend this place. A sit down dinner for four for under $30 is a great value.
