The dishes and the cleanliness and the quality were all lacking today. Orders were messed up, and you could tell that their goal is just to get the food out ...it didn't matter if the order was wrong, or sloppy or horrible in presentation. Look at the photo I posted of my chili Mac supreme. What I got was slop, it looked like someone ate it and realized halfway through that it wasn't theirs and sent it back and it got re served to me. Not sure why all the negative reviews. It's a steak and shake. I came here after an overnight backpacking trip in Ocala NF and Wekiwa Springs. Went with the Frisco Melt, side of fries, side salad with ranch, M&M shake. It was perfect, as it always is and always will be. This was the first time I've ordered the M&M shake. I enjoyed it. Not sure I liked it more than that special dark chocolate shake, but it was a nice change up. The service was great. The food was a tier above fast food. The bathrooms were clean. This may have been one of the worst reviews I've had to write. I made a late drive thru stop here after the movies. I only ordered the chicken tenders and fries combo with a soft drink. The good thing is that the food was fresh and was nice and hot. The tenders were heavily breaded and were below average. Almost tasted like Burger King tenders. The fries were very thin and were ok. When I got home I realized that on top of the soft drink and even inside the cup was dirty. It had debris and hair even inside the cup I was drinking out of. Pretty good food but the wait was just awful! If you're willing to wait a ridiculous amount of time then this is your place. Also who shuts down their drive threw at 4pm for 30 minutes??? Since covid and quarantine has been going on, i have been going to steak 'n shake a lot. I'm not sure if this is the exact one but i know that their food is good. They have good cheese fries but i have noticed the cheese is clumpy if that makes sense. Their fries are awesome, you get more fries in a small then you probably would at McDonald's. Since i don't know if this is the locating i go to i will say they are taking covid procedures well, they have closed the restaurant and you are only allowed in the drive through. They even had a free fry thing where you would get fries for free for how many people you have in your car, meaning if you had 3 people in your car you would get 3 free fries. If there is one thing that is consistent with all Steak n Shakes I have been in is POOR service. The one in the Avenues is no different.

So, I'm on my way home from work and it's late, already 8. This steak n shake is about 5 minutes from where I live and literally on my route home so I thought I'd do the drive thru cause I just want something simple and get home. So I ordered 3 frisco sliders for my roommate and a single steak burger with guacamole for myself. They had me pull up because "they didn't have any fries" which I found odd, but fries shouldn't take that long to heat up anyway right? So they had me pull up. I literally waited so long and watched 5 people drive around me with their food. What? So none of these people had fries? My car is off at this point and I'm actually getting so annoyed, which is a difficult feat, because I work in food service and understand most of the time that things happen. Finally someone comes out with my food and hands it to me. I start up the car and head home. By the time i get home (5 minutes later) its 9. I was waiting almost an HOUR. The fries were very hot. Great. But they had no salt on them and tasted stale anyway.. The Frisco sliders had actually nothing on them, RM showed me that they were literally just a little meat patty on a bun with nothing else, no Frisco sauce. And then my guac steakburger. The first few bites were so good! And then as I kept chewing I noticed that I was chewing something inedible. It was a UPC barcode sticker. Okay Wtf? I was kinda disgusted at this point but still hungry. As I ate on, it tasted less and less good and there was WAY too much lime in the guacamole. Okay this is my first time at a steak and shake and I have to say I expected way better. Steak and shake is located in Viera. there is a little strip mall and a complex behind the location where there is a couple of restaurants that you can eat at as well as a five guys. This was my first time at a steak and shake and I remembered friends from college telling me that steak and shake was a pretty good spot. When we arrived the staff was nice enough to actually have somebody bring a menu out to the car because I didn't want to get out of the car. the staff member brought the menu out to me I sat in the car and I went over what they had in the menu. I thought that was pretty cool that they made the accommodation to bring the menu out for me. the place did look pretty crowded inside at eight or 9 o'clock at night. The staff here was really nice and pleasant. They did have a wide variety of items and their menu they have everything from chicken sandwiches to burgers and they did have a four dollar menu. I had never eaten here before so I wanted to get something that they were kind of known for something like a signature item of theirs. I ordered a milkshake that was half chocolate and half vanilla the milkshake was so good it reminded me of an old school milkshake I actually prefer their milkshake over Johnny Rockets milkshake. I ordered a double steak and Shake burger with barbecue sauce. I also ordered a small side of french fries with Cajun seasoning. When I got the food I looked where the french fries were and I laughed hysterically. These french fries looked so disgusting. They were all bunched up and stuck together and there was seasoning just sprinkled on top of them and they tasted like someone had stuck them in the microwave and microwave the hell out of them. Just look at my pictures if you don't believe me. I ended up opening up my burger and I have high hopes that the burger would be better. The burger it's self was a decent size the only issue I had with the burger is it had no flavor. The barbecue sauce overpower the entire cheeseburger and I couldn't taste anything but barbecue sauce. A person that I was with had the exact same thing for meal and they took two bites out of it and they threw the rest in the garbage. My friend told me that you would never go back to another steak and shake ever again. I would go back to another steak and shake but just for shakes not for food. Overall. This was my first time at steak and shake I did not enjoy the food at all the fries looked and tasted like they were microwaved the burger had basically no flavor. The reason why I am giving this location two stars instead of one is because the staff was very nice and pleasant. DO NOT GO HERE. Listen I am a Steak n' Shake fan and a pretty frequent customer, but this location is the worst I have seen by far. I have been to several different locations in Florida and all of them have met and even exceeded expectations every time I visit but this location has been awful. I cannot speak for the inside because I took the drive through, but If the drive through was any indication of what was inside then I never want to go in. The drive through was slow I got held up for at least 20 min before I saw the window. The food they gave me was poorly cooked and was thrown together. I asked for the Steak 'n Shake seasoning and they gave me garlic sauce. This was the worst experience I have had with this chain and I haven't a single one before. read more

When I got to the window, I asked the guy if "junior" wouldn't be considered small. He said NO, we don't have small, the smallest size is "Junior". For the fun of it, I continued, and asked why they wouldn't simply give a person a "Junior" when they asked for a "Small". He replied "Because we don't have a "small" size. Worst restaurant in Brevard! So far this year (2012), this has become the worst, worst, worst restaurant in Brevard County. Earlier this year, we decided to give their breakfast a try. I think that drinking directly from the ocean would have provided me with less sodium than eating their breakfast. But we decided to give it another try. When we arrived, there was just one other group of people seated in a booth across the dining room. We figured that it being so "slow" that we wouldn't have to wait long. We figured wrong. After being seated, it took five minutes for anyone to come and take a drink order. It took another five to get the actual drinks. Twenty minutes into our visit, our order was finally taken. Ten minutes later (not unreasonable), our food arrived. Given that the food arrived within a fairly reasonable amount of time, one would expect it to be hot. Our food was anything but hot. It was anything but warm. And on top of that, it was flavorless crap, unworthy of being served at Gitmo. The eggs were cold. The meats were cold. The toast, on top of being unbuttered, was stale. I didn't think it was possible to have stale toast, but that's exactly what this was. We will never return to the Viera Steak 'n' Shake. The West Melbourne store is much better. read more

I'm gonna go along with a few of the other disappointments. I chose the drive thru...BAD choice. I got in line at 1:17, finally placed my order @ 1:31, then got my food @ 1:52. My own fault for sitting, I admit but my curiosity had the best of me, & when you got an hour to kill, wth ?? Food was decent I'll admit. Fries sucked though. Rating this review is hard. I came I for dinner tonight with my wife and 2 kids. Our first reaction to walking in was that there was a funny odor. It almost smelled as if the floors had been cleaned with old dirty mop water. After looking around, it was very apparent that the place was dirty. The floors look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks. There was trash all over the floor, and chunks of food and dirt everywhere. Our server, although very nice and polite, was extremely slow. We sat for 15 minutes after we ordered drinks before they actually came to the table. The food was very good, if you like this type of food. I understand that we didn't choose a 5 star restaurant for this evening's dinner, but the place could have been cleaner than it was. I will still come back, but hope that next time to come into a cleaner restaurant than what we saw tonight. read more

Usually the place is not busy enough to justify these long waits, mostly because of all the errors the staff makes in the orders. Worst of all? I saw all the bad reviews, which are quite old, and thought I'd take the risk (also nothing else open out here after 11pm). Overall I'd say it's as good as you can expect for a Steak and Shake. I had a guacamole steak Burger, and it was the same as I've had before (never been to one in the heartland). The main thing they offer is better quality than the big chains and a low price point, and I'd say they're doing it fine. Didn't do a full inspection, but no obvious dirty areas in the restaurant. As I was being taken to my table, I could see there were dirty tables (not bussed) everywhere. In fact, I counted and there were more dirty tables (9) than there were occupied tables. Quite honestly, it was disgusting to look around. My feeling was that if the restaurant is this dirty in the front area, then I question the cleanliness in the back area. I got up and, as I was leaving, asked to see the manager. Katie, the person who had taken me to my table, said she was the manager. I explained my concerns (above). She said that they had just had a big rush and that they were cleaning the tables. Quite honestly, this explanation has no impact on me as a customer coming in. I didn't see any rush of people leaving the parking lot, which was fairly empty; and Katie was talking to a couple of young men at the counter when I arrived. I would have expected to see the manager helping her staff if she realized how her restaurant appeared to customers. I drove across the street and ate at Chipotle, instead, where the restaurant was clean (even though busy) and the service was friendly and efficient. Note that in my prior visit to this Steak n Shake, in Viera, perhaps a year ago or so, I was seated in the far corner. Not a problem, except that I received no service until I requested it, after perhaps 5-10 minutes. Not even an "I'll be right with you." So completely off my list other than perhaps an occasional milk shake at the drive-through. This Steak n Shake is either understaffed or not well-managed. This store now has too much competition from new, quick-service casual-dining restaurants in the immediate area not to "step it up." If only I could give this place 0 stars! This restaurant's men's restroom was absolutely filthy on my last visit. I personally told one of the staff what the issue was and was told a manager would be called. When we left 90 minutes later, it still has not been cleaned up. I'm purposefully being vague here because the situation was to gross to fully describe.
