Despite the lower reviews, I think this is becoming one of my favorite burger fast food places to go to. It's very reminiscent of a cross between five guys and shake shack. Now, when this place opened (2011) it was outstanding. It's clear you get 2 different experiences and food qualities, the drive in or dining in. 2/19/2026 Houston we have an issue! This garlic burger needs more seasoning other than garlic and butter. Can a MF get some celery salt up in here? Well that is what I had to do to just wake the flavor up. Yes the garlic is there and of course the butter but that was it. Now let's talk about the Dry Steak Frank, ummm WTF is that after taste? I don't think O will try that again, maybe it they switch to another meat source. Went in here tonight for a burger and fries and was not disappointed! The burgers and fries are UNMATCHED to any other fast food and many dine in restaurants. Steak 'n Shake is the only place serving grass fed beef and beef tallow cooked fries. The service is quick and friendly. The inside is the same as every other Steak 'n Shake, has an old diner feel. You must use one of the 4 ordering kiosks to view the menu. Their menu is not displayed anywhere but on the kiosk ordering stations. So, if it gets busy, and the kiosks are occupied, you can not look at the menu. If your one that doesn't have a smart phone, you'll have to wait to view the options and then order. I see this as a weak link for customer service. Fortunately, there was only myself and another customer in the restaurant at that time(5:30pm). Stopped here while traveling, the best steak and shake I've ever been in. Super clean, fully stocked, and fully staffed!

I want to start off my review by saying the only reason it's not 5 stars is because the building is a little run down and the bathrooms are cramped. The staff were super friendly and the service was insanely fast. You do have to scan a slip if you get a drink in order to fill your cup, which through us off at first but makes perfect sense. My fiancé had the bacon and cheese single with fries. The bacon was fully cooked and the grilled onions (he added) were perfect. I had the butter single with fries. The butter bun made it a little more greasy/messy but that's to be expected. It was hot and fully cooked. The fries are amazing on their own but are even better with their burger and fry seasoning that you can get by the forks and straws. We ended up trying the chili 5-way. This was my first time having it and it was so good. My fiancé said it was exactly how he remembered it. We got the chocolate shake and the Oreo m&m shake to end it off, which were both amazing. Probably the best part of the meal not gonna lie. It would definitely be a 5 star place if the building itself was kept up on. read more

I get coupons in the mail all the time for this burger place, so I thought I would give it a try. I went thru the drive thru, so cannot comment on the interior. There are burgers, chicken strips, and chili. You can get either fries or onion rings. To drink are the usual soft drinks and a large number of milk shakes. I got the double cheeseburger, fries and a Kit Kat milkshake. If you go between 2-5 PM all milkshakes are 1/2 off. Otherwise I would not get a shake, but it was excellent. The burger was about a 5 on a 1-10 scale. It was not as tasty as some other burger establishments. The fries are thinner than other fast food restaurants but I liked them. So for less than $7, I had a pretty high calorie ic meal. I mighT not go out of my wY to go again, but the prices are good. read more

The Steak 'n Shake footprint has shrunk dramatically in the past few years. Now, the closest one to my home is nearly 500 miles. It's probably been 10 years since I've been able to get to one, so it has taken on an almost talismanic dimension for me. The Steakburger and chili are as good as ever, but sadly the fries were only lukewarm, so it wasn't quite the perfect Steak 'n Shake experience I have been longing for. But it was still satisfying, and I will look forward to my next opportunity to dine here. I miss the china and table service, though. Too bad some things must pass away forever. I love Steak 'n Shake, and I enjoyed my dinner; but my order was incomplete (ordered a shake with my burger) and I felt badly for my server, who was the ONLY server last Wednesday. He was cleaning (looked like a party had just happened in the place), taking orders, and checking patrons out. The other employees behind the counter didn't seem to care nor did they seem to be team players. 3 groups arrived after us and people kept arriving after we left. It's a shame. My husband and I were visiting from WI and had not had Steak 'n Shake in a long time. I was really looking forward to enjoying my Steak 'n Shake. I received a completely wrong order which was less a value than what I paid for. Didn't have time to wait for a remake. Manager told me I could come back anytime, she didn't ask my name. I went back the very next day and staff was completely rude as if it was my fault that they owed me a meal. The customer service is horrible. A solid concept, and a well-established tradition are the first couple things that come to mind when I think of Steak-N-Shake. I have been to many different locations and their level of consistency between each of their stores are a little wide in my experience. Some locations are great, and some others need a little help. This location is decent. One reviewer said something about this store smelling like an armpit, but I didn't notice anything foul, odor or otherwise at this store. Sometimes it is just a bad day; people can have them...and so can businesses. But honestly, I have only been to this location a few times. Still, I would think that if a restaurant smelled foul and looked like a sewer station, no one would be in there, and everytime I've been here, they were always half full at least. I like their cheeseburgers, which are actually made from ground steak, but their shakes are sublime! And those shakes come in a cornucopia of flavors. I usually get the strawberry, which is excellent, but I also like to try new things, and Steak-N-Shake has got you covered, if you want a continuum of variety in your shakes or malts. It feels like Sockhop Saturday nights in there 24/7. I can't help but feeling like I might see "Ward Cleaver" and "The Beave" stop in for some swell shoestring french fries, and of course, some steak and shake too! read more

Genuinely I wish I could give all of the employees a huge high five for being the best. We ate in there one time and the vibes were great. Eating inside a steak and shake brings back memories. This place brings me back to my grad school days decades ago when there was a Steak 'n Shake around the corner! Good times! While I love the specialty burgers, I really enjoy the Turkey club, 3-way chili Mac, and ice tea. Join the many cheapskates who come in hordes for half-price shakes and drinks from 2-5 on weekdays! Bargain! The seating here is plentiful and comfortable. The windows are large and the dining room is well-lit so you can see what you are are ramming into your pie hole! This place has a large parking lot, unlike the trendy, hipster douchebag eateries downtown. Pay up, you maggots! The pace is pretty laid-back. Not a huge fan of this place. When you walk in, you hit a wall of funk: it smells as if someone wiped their armpits all over the walls and floor. It's nasty: however, after two more steps the smell goes away. The floors are always super sticky. I've been here a handful of times, and not once have the floors seemed clean. The tables are the same-super sticky. I wouldn't set your food down on it unless you bring wet wipes. The workers are all nice enough people, but pretty clueless. I was here with a friend, and he asked for a plain burger. After what seemed like an hour (it was about 25 minutes), his burger came out... with everything on it. He gave it back to the waitress, specifying that he wanted nothing on it. 10 minutes later she came back with another burger, with everything on it. My friend gave up and ate the burger, because the waitress didn't know what she was doing. However, she was nice about it the whole time, so I give her credit for that. The actual food here is mediocre. I ate a burger, which came out very rubbery and not too tasty. That being said, the shakes are what to get: they're big, they're thick, and they're very rich. I ordered a mint Oreo shake, and I would 100% get it again. I only have two problems with the shakes; they are super expensive, coming in at around 5 dollars per shake, and I'm not sure that the glasses they come in are clean . Still, it's a damn good shake. If and when I come back here, it's going to be to stop by for a shake. That's it- I don't want to spend a whole lot of time here. 2/5 read more

It's a quick little burger joint with great prices. I was here yesterday and loved their $4 menu. I ordered the taco salad and my husband ordered a double cheeseburger. Our order was fast, Alex was wonderful, and I'm back again today after walking a quarter mile in the rain while they get some metal out of my tire at discount tire. (Note, red robin, Mcdonalds, and Applebee's are right across the street, but I went a little further for good food at a better price than that fast food joint. Happy hour is weekdays from 2-4 (pm and am) for half off of drinks and shakes. With the type of food and service I've received the past couple times I've been here, I will be back. Ew...... The food is a guilty pleasure. At least it has been until yesterday. Previously I had never gone into this location, only picked up food though the drive-thru Going inside was A BIG mistake. Have you seen The Smelly Car episode of Seinfeld? "What am I, hard of smelling?" Walking in the first set of doors smells like a refugee camp. No amount of vinegar or tomato paste is gonna get rid of that smell. Luckily stepping inside the second set of doors transformed the smell to something a little closer to home like a teenage boy's gym shoes. Once you get past the smell you're greeted by the grime. Wow this place is dirty. I'm not sure why I'm so surprised by the inside when the outside looks equally bad.... Weeds overtaking all the landscaping, paint and signage faded by years of neglect, awnings look like someone dumped black paint from the roof... I've digressed... The inside is filthy. And it's 90 degrees, where is the AC? Everyone looked like they were the main attraction for the filming of a Blob movie... It was so hot and it wore on everyone's face. It was clear to see they were grossly understaffed. The stressed gal working the main register was taking orders from walk-ins, taking payments from dine-in customers and working the drive-thru while running back and forth between the front counter and the window. Needless to say she wasn't the most pleasant person to deal with... She quickly took the order and hurried off. While waiting for our 4 burgers we got to sit at the bar area and watch the line cook beat the living hell out of every piece of meat he threw on the grill. Also got to watch him pull meat and buns from broken drawers inches from the floor, drop them, put this hands on the floor while picking them up, tossing the bun from the floor back into the drawer (seemed absent-minded) frustratingly grabbing it out of the drawer, smashing the drawer mostly closed with his foot while knocking the front of the drawer off... Decided to order through Uber eats because I had some extra money, me and my girlfriend got the triple steak burgers. First mistake was getting more than a single here. I got a orange pop and fries on the side. Fries were freezing cold, more than they normally are at least, and the drink tasted off, I'm not sure if that's because I got ice or not. For the last two days I've been on the toilet filling the bowl with liquid/runny stools, and feeling nauseated. I have had severe stomach pains and loud grumbling. The ones in St Louis are so much better it is really no contest. I am a regular whenever I am down there to visit my sister and her family. This location will do in a pinch, especially good late at night when we go. I like an original (double cheese steakburger) and the thin crunchy fries with a chili deluxe as the other side. Deluxe is with onions and cheese, I also add oyster crackers of course! I also sometimes add a little drizzle of mustard shhh. Always tasty. The shakes are nice and I like that you can mix and match half and halfs. My nieces and nephew love it here in St Lou and seem very partial to the lime and orange freezes. My mother usually gets the chili five ways, which is kind of like a Cincinnati chili. Spaghetti, chili with special sauce, chili meat, onions and cheese. Not my thing. Not bad at all for fast food, actually pretty tasty, definitely fun and cravable. Join the e club and get a free double steakburger with cheese and a side of fries gratis for your birthday. I used to go there couple times a year... the last time I was there was with my nephews and their friends... if you go in large group, you'll have to wait a little for the staff to put the tables together... but I never had major issues when going there in a large group. I usually get the triple with fries and diet coke. Their burgers are good, nothing to write home about though... I do have issue with their service though... the service can be lacking... and majority of my visits, I had experienced long delays in getting refills, our food orders taking long time to come out. However, this all depends on who you get... I had bad service on days when it wasn't even busy... I've had good service at MANY locations just not this one. Last visit was infuriating, followed by a call to the number on the receipt that said I'd get a call back in 24-48 hours. NOPE. Called the 800 number again - promised a call. NOPE. There are some good kids working here but I believe they have apathetic management. This is a great family friendly restaurant. I love coming here for their shakes and burgers. The service is always good and you usually don't have to wait. One of the main things that this restaurant is lacking is a cleaning crew. The floors are always dirty and bathrooms are in such a bad condition. A friend and I go to the gym religiously at night...so... We finish working out and head here for a post workout meal...we walk in to no greeting, and it takes us a few minutes to be seated... Fifteen-Twenty minutes later... my friend got tired of waiting and went and asked the COOK whom our server was, because we hadn't seen anyone. Five minutes goes by, finally get some water and our order taken, cool. Twenty minutes tick on... my glass of water is empty now... our waitress said our food will be up in a few minutes... Ten minutes later (glass still empty) another waiter brings my friend his shake, that he ordered to go, for after the meal.... At this point I ask him how long the food is going to take.. he said just a few minutes... I asked just how many minutes... he replied no more than ten.... I tell him to cancel the order, we are done waiting. We walk up to the counter, and the waiter starts to ring the friend up for the shake (because he is mild mannered, and didn't want to raise hell about paying for a shake). BUT INSTEAD, the waiter is ringing up our entire bill, as if we had eaten already. At this point, we basically told him to keep the shake too, and we walked out. I have been there twice now, and have had bad service both times, and undercooked food for the time I DID in fact get to eat... This place is good if you just don't feel like going home and need something to snack on while catching up with a friend. I've gotten a brownie sundae once, that was covered in caramel (which would be a good thing if the brownie wasn't drowning in it) and the brownie was nothing too exciting. It's two hamburger patties with some sort of sour sauce in between them, served on sourdough bread. Had the mint cookies and cream shake. It was pretty tasty, but super filling.
