First, the staff we encountered is super nice and helpful. But I have to say, the food is just not good. In fact, not even mediocre. We've been twice , wanting to give it another chance. But both times end up throwing most of the food away. The noodles were soggy and slimy with some kind of sickly sweet sauce on top. The soup wontons taste like alcohol inside. Potstickers just tasted like frozen grocery store potstickers. The green scallion pancakes were just ok. I don't like writing negative reviews. I don't usually. But I would look elsewhere for food and spend your money somewhere else. read more

I tried several items at Steamies and was impressed by almost all of it. I went to Steamies on a Sunday just after noon for lunch. While there were a couple of tables open we were told it would be at least 30 minutes before food started coming out. We ordered the monthly dumpling, honey ginger chicken (available through the end of January), which had a delightful kick at the end of the ginger flavor. These pan fried dumplings were cooked to perfection with a bit of crunch. I'm going to try to return before the month ends and then hope they return to the menu. We each got a Taiwanese braised beef taco. These are served on their scallion pancakes which are bursting with scallions. The juices of the beef and the vinegary slaw they put on top fill your mouth with so much flavor in every bite. We also tried the scallion pancakes on their own. These really do have so many scallions in them that it seems like the pancake shouldn't have enough batter to hold it together. They're delicious. The Hong Kong style rice noodle rolls with brown sauce and sesame seeds are fun to eat and tasty. We rounded out our meal with the xiao long Bao. These were served with each one being in its own little tin. I was hoping that they wouldn't stick to the tin so that I could get all of the soup in one bite with the dumpling but some of them did stick and tear a little bit however because you have the tiny little tin you can still get every little bit of the soup. Soup dumplings that I've tried in Austin. There isn't anything that I tasted on the menu that I wouldn't get again. All of it was good the prices pretty competitive for Austin. This is a very small restaurant, with limited seating, primarily a bench on one side with tiny wooden stools on the opposite side, and tiny tables, where they have to take away your plates to make room if you order more than a couple of dishes. It's fairly bright inside, and the atmosphere feels a bit cozy rather than just crowded. The biggest downside is that it's an incredibly busy shopping center and finding parking was a nightmare. My husband was out of town, so my five year old, 8 month old and I wandered down to try out a new place! We go to this area a lot for the revolving sushi restaurant (a child fan favorite), but recently my son has tried soup dumplings and we wanted to go to a place that specializes in dumplings. Steamies Dumplings is a VERY small place, clean and pretty inside. You order at the front, then find a seat on the right hand side of the restaurant. It's set up so you can see employees chopping fresh veggies from the window. We were told it would be a twenty minute wait for food and they were right on point. Our first dish came in about 20. Smashed Cucumber Salad $5.50 - Fresh and spicy. I prefer a pickled salad, but this was really good! Crispy Scallion Pancakes $7.50 - ORDER these! My son loved them so much I only got to have one. Taiwanese Beef Taco $9.50 - This was good, but if I had it to do over I'd order more dumplings Special Hot Honey Potstickers - This was the monthly special. My son is still not a huge heat fan, but these were so good he ate two anyway (with a lot of water). Soy Sauce Pan Fried Noodles $7 - I got this as the main dish for my son and while it isn't spicy it does have a lot of veggies and onions in it. We both honestly weren't huge fans of it. The lady who works there recommends the HK style noodle rolls instead! We'll definitely try next time! Shanghai Soup Dumplings 5 for $9.75 - Delicious! We left with a bag of frozen! My son ended up eating most of them, defining a win! I have to also speak to the staff and say each person we met was calm, cool, collected and very sweet. They were short staffed the day we went but still kept things moving. The tables are VERY small. We ordered enough that we had to consolidate and at one point my son accidentally spilled his noodles. The dumplings are great, of course, but the scallion pancakes are STUPENDOUS. Buttery but not greasy, super flaky and still moist, packed with savory onion I'd go just for another order. I wish they sold these frozen, too! Plenty of vegan options, with the aforementioned dumplings fashioned into little triangles, cucumber salad, spicy noodles, and rice rolls. Cute little dumpling place that has good comfort food . We tried the cucumber salad, was pretty basic with soy sauce and sesame seeds. Tasted refreshing as it was pretty hot outside . The sauce that came with it hit the spot and we also made use of the free chili oil in the store to hit it up a notch . They had ran out of everything else that we wanted to try - like the soup dumplings, hibiscus drink and ginger sticky rice and pan fried noodles . I was so excited to try Steamies but once we entered. We were not greeted by any of the employees. We almost walked out. When one of the works finally acknowledged us it was as is we were bothering them. It was a very cold and uninviting atmosphere. I hope that this was just an off day for them. We ordered the $12.95 lunch special with sticky rice and fried noodles. I was so excited to try it. Once the order was ready the take out bag was so light. That was an indication that the portions were going to be minuscule. I was correct. The portions were a bit more than a sample serving. The texture of the fried noodles was not so great. The sticky rice was the best out of all. I would not visit this place again. I also forgot to mention that non of the employees had their hair in a hair net while making the dumplings. Maybe this is not an issue for some but all the dumpling places I've been to have more health/safety precautions. read more

We're all door dashing everthing these days, right? Just looking for a snack and I ran across Steamies Dumplings. Only a few items on the menu, so I ordered most of it. The food arrived hot and fresh, appealing presentation and aromas as soon as I opened the bag. The people in the house who eat pork raved about the Pork & Cabbage Potstickers and we were all charmed by the perfect finger sized bites of Crispy Scallion Pancakes . The HK Street-style Noodle Rolls are exactly as decribed - slices of rolled up noodles drizzled with an incredible sweet and umami peanut sauce. For me the real star of the show was the Taiwanese Beef Taco It was insanely delicious. It took both hands to hold it and the meat was juicy and savory, with a smoky sweet hoisin sauce. The man at the counter was super friendly and we chatted about our respective days, which was refreshing. The cucumber salad is similar to a dish I make myself at home, but better. I think I'll use chili flakes in mine next time, too! It seems like a lot of different cuisines are represented here, and though my life was not changed by what I ate today, maybe some of the other dishes are more impressive. Still, everything was yummy and I appreciate they get a lot of their ingredients from local vendors. Also, I don't care what Gordon Ramsay says, having pictures on a menu is super useful, and I'm glad there was one I could reference up front. The place is small on the inside so there isn't much seating available. The food is on point though. We love the soup dumplings!

I came here at the recommendation of a guy I spoke to briefly on hinge. He recommended the Taiwanese scallion pancake taco which is on their general menu. It was a LOT. The taco is VERY dense, and contained a lot of meat. I appreciated that but I could tell I was taking in a lot of oil and fat! I actually would not buy it again just for myself because it's so dense, but the fusion idea is fun. What I did really enjoy here was the premade/frozen dumplings - they reheat/sauté very well and they're delicious! They're a little pricey, I think it was about $10 for a dozen of them, but they are worth it to eat sometimes since they are so tasty. The service was also great, the gentleman taking my order was very friendly. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless I had an insatiable dumpling craving but overall I did really enjoy the food! read more

We tried the four dumpling flavors they had - the monthly flavor was amazing! The pork and the chicken were standard. The scallion pancakes however were really salty :( almost to the point where I didn't want to eat them. This is the main reason for the lower review. We also got soup dumplings and they were good as well. Not sure if my taste was numbed out by how salty the scallion pancakes were but the soup dumplings tasted a little bland. I don't know how they managed to do it, but Steamies launched their brick and mortar earlier this year just as everyone was shutting down for COVID-19. They are hustling hard, and making Crescent/Austin a better place with their handmade, small-batch dumplings! They have traditional dumpling offerings (i.e. Pork & Cabbage and XLB), but also have more unconventional options, such as their Five-Spice Lemongrass. At home, our tried-and-true favorites are the Chicken & Shiitake and the Coconut Red Curry Chicken (the dipping sauce takes it to the next level). As others have mentioned, the pickup process is easy. You can order online ahead of time, then pull up to a parking space, call their number, and they bring out your order. Currently, they are only selling frozen dumplings from their store, but you can always order freshly cooked ones from their neighbor Sazan Ramen, or from the Steamies booth at the Farmers' Markets on weekends. Their XLB are legit! And I love how easy it is to just pop in and grab a few bags of frozen dumplings from the fridge in the back. They've started passing out little foil soup dumpling cups at checkout, too, which are really nice for cooking your dumplings easily, keeping them from sticking to your steamer, and catching any soup that drips out if you accidentally tear a dumpling. I just wish the parking here wasn't such a nightmare. Steamies was a great find on our way to a desert place in the area. The food was all very delicious and came out nice and quick! Definitely a spot for smaller groups as there is very limited seating, but if you're a group of 2-3, a table will open up before you get your food. My favorite was the sticky rice followed closely by the pot stickers. I think they could step up their soup dumpling game. I also wish they had the big spoons you normally eat soup dumplings in instead of these tin foil cups (cute idea but it was tough to eat that way).
