This place is horrible, I have gone twice. The first time was with my wife and kids and we were literally seated near the kitchen away from everyone else. It wasn't even busy. We asked if we could sit away from where everyone was going in and out of the kitchen and were told no sorry! We left. Second time it was just the wife and I and we were seated pretty quickly. It took 45 minutes for them to ask us what drinks we wanted and hadn't even sean a menu to see what they had. When we requested drinks we were told they didn't have that and they would come back when we were ready to order. Still didn't get a menu. First of all I'd like to start with the good point, the restaurant was not crowded at lunch time and everything was socially distanced apart. Our waitress Yvette was professional and prompt she had no problem replacing my soup with pork in it that I could not eat. She was the best part of our dining experience. Unfortunately we ordered two Stockyard steaks my wife's was supposed to be for medium well and mine was supposed to be medium, they were both overcooked to well done and dry. The cook had time to get the order correct because the restaurant was not busy? I'm not sure why are steaks came out the way they did. I could not finish mine but I did not want to complain so I thought I would air my grievances this way. Very pleased! Was not expecting much since we visited the hemet location a few months back and it was horrible. We even gave it a second chance and it was even worse the second time! I ordered a rib eye expecting a good steak...I was sadly disappointed. I mean who pan fry's a rib eye? I would expect that kind of a steak with eggs maybe. The name Steer and Stein doesn't mean steak house the way that at least I think of a steak house. We were in the area and thought let's give it a try. We should have stuck with what we know. I had two bites I choked down and brought the rest home for my dog. The waiter was nice but his service was lacking. I placed the order for 2 ribeye steak dinners well done. Wow what a disappointment . I got home we opened the containers and the cow wasn't dead yet it was raw. We ordered well done neither one of us like are steak raw. Not only was the steaks raw the baked potatoes were still hard. Lucky for me my husband felt so bad for me he cooked the steaks on the stove along with cooking the potatoes in the microwave for several minutes. Wow we use to order from them frequently. I was to tired to drive back with the steaks so I called. When I asked for the manager the phone went silent. I think they didn't want the people coming in to hear than I was disconnected. I called right back the phone rang and rang. Today I called at 12:45pm asked for the manager and was told no manager was there at the time. He said someone should be there by 1 or 1:30. I called back this afternoon and was put on hold. I asked for the person name that was speaking with me he said Juan. If he's a manager he should be fired i told him what happened he was very rude. First he asked me would a dinner make me happy I said I bought 2 dinners. He said why didn't I call last night I told him I did and was hung up on. I told him my husband cooked the food than he changed his mind said oh you ate it than I can't do anything for you. I tried to give him a chance to correct the wrong doing. We went in on a weekday night to try it out. The neighborhood is a little sketchy at night, and the front entrance is at an awkward spot, but otherwise the restaurant is decently kept. The atmosphere is nice, the server was very friendly, and we had a cook or manager come and visit our table as well. My husband had a burger and I had the fish and chips (I didn't like those). You know, it's been a long time since I've tasted such a wonderfully juicy steak! I had their Steak sandwich and oooooh boy was it good!! I'm not even exaggerating... the price may seem a little bit high but the amount of food you get is worth it! All I have to say is what a disappointment. The staff is awesome our waitress was so nice and polite but it ends there. Mashed potato's were from a box and mushy. No flavor whatsoever felt like I was eating the old fashioned baby cereal you put in a sipping cup. I have mixed feelings about our visit here. We came as a large family. They did great with the 20+ with us. The service was so so, but understandable with the size of our party. So, really no complaints there. What I didn't like about this restaurant was the food. It just was not good. We had the salmon and the country fried steak. The salmon was just okay, nothing special. We use to come here all the time in the past but have forgotten about this place for some reason. Recently, a family member came from out of state and wanted to know if this restaurant is still open. After all these years, it's still the same Steer N Stein that we liked. It is still located in the same shopping center; with the same setup and the same rustic theme. The furniture still looks the same but not by any means worn out. It's still has that same comfortable ambiance. In the past, I have sampled quite a bit in their menu (Salmon used to be my favorite here). But on our most recent visit, we ordered pepper steak, kabob, and combo dinner of pork ribs and teriyaki chicken. Their menus are actually pretty much the same 10 years back but hey, why change it if it's works? As always, the foods we ordered have good flavors and cooked with care. My teriyaki chicken was topped with mushroom; it was tender and juicy. The pork rib was dry rubbed, smoked and tasted great. The sauce was not overpowering. I really liked it. The rest of the family also had positive reviews on their order. Our server was friendly and attentive. Portions vs. price were average, actually not bad. This restaurant is not by any means a 5 stars steak house but we have always had an enjoyable experience here. With the way our economy have been going these past 10 years, there's so many businesses here in MoVal that have come and go, esp. restaurants. But Steer N Stein managed to stay open and with a well maintained establishment as well. That says a lot! They must be doing something right. I believe it's because they are consistent. Yes, I realize these are not Kobe steaks, but for about $15, you can get the 12 ounce Stockyard steak, Texas toast, and a choice of sides (veggies, bakes potato, skins, or mashed potatoes) along with soup or salad. The steaks are outstanding!! Flavor, texture, and presentation are all great! I've never had an improperly cooked steak here either. Service is always excellent and drinks are kept topped off continuously. If you like appetizers, the zucchini is awesome and the portion is very large. They have an awesome selection of sandwiches that are a good option for lunch. They also offer a couple of giant salads that are very, very good. I haven't been to a Steer'n Stein is years! We walked in and were seated immediately by the hostess. We ordered our drinks and the same girl brought them to us. They were pretty busy!! My hubby and I noticed she was also a busser/runner of food. When things slowed down a bit I asked what her name was. She was so nice, polite and helpful to all of her co-workers. The mid-week deals are great,but they're still pretty reasonable on the weekend. You can't go wrong for the price & the steaks are really good. The pepper steak is very flavorful & the potatoes are always HUGE, I understand the fried chicken is yummy too. I love their sauteed mushrooms - get that as an appetizer, its great.
