    Caesar salad
    Kyla J.

Came here with high hopes, but overall it was just okay, especially considering all the great Italian spots nearby. We started with "The Fish Market" cheesy garlic bread, which sounded promising but didn't really stand out. The Caesar salad was similar, fresh but pretty standard and not very memorable. For my main, I got the truffle stuffed gnocchi with brown butter and sage. The flavor was actually really good and well balanced, but the portion was small, about 15 pieces. For the price, it didn't feel worth it, and I was still hungry even after appetizers, which was disappointing. My husband ordered the milanese di pollo. It looked great, but the chicken itself was a bit underwhelming. It tasted a little bland and not as well seasoned as we expected. I will say the atmosphere is really nice. It has a warm and inviting vibe and would be a good spot for a date night. The staff were also friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was pretty busy, which says a lot. Overall, nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either compared to other Italian restaurants in the area. Glad we tried it, but not sure we would go out of our way to come back.

Nicer upscale Italian restaurant in the Peninsula. Nice patio in the front that's good for families with small kids. La Violetta: Really well made refreshing cocktail served upright. Rosemary focaccia: Tasty, but not sure if it's worth $8 Carpaccio: The beef was super fresh and paired well with the mushroom. Lasagna: Solid, but not a standout Fiocchi: A super special pasta that is sweet with the pear. On the rich side due to the cream sauce. Petrale Sole Piccata: The fish was well cooked and the lemon and capers were tasty. Comes with mashed potatoes and some veggies. Osso Bucco: the veal was overall tender and solid and came with tasty polenta. Piccata di Vitello: The veal was again solid. Service was a bit slow and stiff, but otherwise the meal was solid. Wouldn't hesitate to come back!

This is a cute restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. Our server, Nava was great. He suggested perfect recommendations which we appreciated. We ordered the truffle oil gnocchi with brown butter and sage, rosemary focaccia to soak up the gnocchi truffle oil sauce, insalata boscaiola , spezzatino al barolo, the day special - ravioli filled with lobster and creme brulee. For drinks I ordered a glass of sparkling rose and an espresso martini. Everything was really delicious. But the dishes that stood out for me were : the gnocchi, focaccia and the ravioli . The gnocchi was soft and pillowy. Very simple in the truffle oil and brown butter sauce, the focaccia was crispy but soft and chewy which paired perfectly with the gnocchi sauce! The ravioli was simple but rich in flavor. The espresso martini was perfect not too strong and visually appealing with the waffle cookie as garnish. Such a great place to dine with friends and family.

I last visited Stella more than 12 years ago when it was at the old location across from the Burlingame Library, so I decided to take my better half to their newer Broadway Avenue location for a Valentine's dinner. The new space is modern, spacious, and very inviting. Reservations were surprisingly hard to get -- probably because of Valentine's week -- but I managed to snag a last-minute 5pm weekday opening. We were seated upstairs, which initially felt extra special since we were the only diners there. Within an hour, though, the second floor filled up quickly. Thankfully, the layout is roomy enough that it never felt crowded or uncomfortable. For starters, we ordered the garlic gnocchi with truffles -- absolutely delicious. The cheese garlic bread was another highlight: perfectly toasted outside, soft inside, and loaded with cheesy goodness. For our mains, we shared the filet mignon served over garlic truffle mashed potatoes with broccolini. Cooked medium rare, the filet was incredibly tender. We also shared the penne pasta, cooked perfectly al dente -- always a sign of well-executed Italian cooking. Dessert was bread pudding, and it was the perfect sweet finish to the evening. Overall, I can definitely see why Stella remains a local favorite. The service stayed attentive even as the restaurant filled up, and the food was consistently excellent. A must-try if you enjoy authentic Italian cuisine.

Solid 3.5 stars. Vibe in here is very nice and cozy. We often sit at the bar and the main bartender is always friendly. Espresso martinis come with a cookie, which is very fun. Meals are good but not the best Italian food I've ever had. Pastas are reasonably priced. $8 for focaccia is greedy. "Tiramisu" is a very loose term here (it's dry vanilla cake with cream, not traditional at all)

For a few that know, this has been an absolute crazy last few days! So on a whim & on a weeknight, dressed in simple sweats & a smile, my hub & I stopped by for dinner here. My fave is Italian food & he just thought, "It's about time to unwind." We enjoyed a fulfilling meal of decadent carbs that made the chaos we're dealing with just a tad less messy. Thank you for the amazing experience, Stella! We have to say it's long overdue & we dang well deserved it!

Fabulous restaurant and service from top to bottom. Our server (didn't get her name) was exceptional on a Saturday evening. She recommended the risotto with shrimp and it did not disappoint! Warm Apple dessert hit the spot.

Absolutely amazing!! They made my brother's birthday incredibly special. We made a last min reservation and they went above and beyond. The food was excellent, service was extremely friendly and the ambiance was absolutely beautiful. They have some stunning Christmas decor up right now too. They decorated the table for my brother's birthday and it was such a nice touch. Food: - Cheesy garlic bread with dungeness crab: cheesey, creamy and delicious - every bite was delightful - Fiocchi con pere e taleggio: my dish - it was a delicious pasta stuffed with pear and cheese in a creamy sauce. Perfect mix of creamy, salty, and sweet - absolutely divine - Gianna's Eggplant Parmigiana: my brother ordered this, he loves eggplant parm and this dish was enjoyable for him - Gamberi all aglio: my mom ordered this, it was delicious and in a yummy garlic sauce, shrimp was fresh and spaghetti was perfectly cooked - Petrale sole piccata: my dad got this, a crispy fish that was cooked and seasoned perfectly - Tiramisu: so decadent and coffee flavor really came through - Bourbon bread pudding: my brother was given this by the restaurant for his bday, it was divine!!! The pudding was a perfect texture and in a delicious milk sauce. We loved it!! Such an amazing experience. 10000% recommend this for a celebration of a date night - they will make it truly special.

Went in for dinner on a Monday evening and there was no wait. However, it did take a bit for a waiter to visit my table, which was in the bar area. I ordered a Stella salad with chicken along with focaccia. I thought the salad was great and the focaccia was tasty. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.

Our server, David, made the whole experience flawless! The menu is enticing, although large, but he guided us through it with thoughtful recommendations and descriptions. He was knowledgeable about the wines as well, and helped me pick the perfect Italian red for my meal. I loved the pasta "purses" with pears and taleggio. NOT TO MISS: the focaccia! Even though all our food was amazing, the focaccia stood out. David even brought us out a delicious crème brûlée to end the meal. Side note, sit in the giardino because it's beautiful and the quietest part of the restaurant. I hope to return soon for the great service and food.

Great spot in downtown Burlingame. Lots of italian classics with a little twist. The truffle pasta appetizer was rich and heavenly. The fondue also was a hit among my table. Lamb rack was cooked just right to my preference and everyone at my table enjoyed the food. Service was a little miss but for a large group (10+), I understand how hectic it can be. Great spot for business lunches and dinners. Parking in downtown is easy and there is residential street parking only 1 block away.

Came back to try again after 4 years! Forgot to leave a review the first time around so I'm back again to revisit the dining experience & ordering the same things I did last time. Escargot was good; wasn't a fan of the tiramisu. Main dish had a wonderful mascarpone polenta. The meat was dry, but the red wine reduction saved it. The wine was the best part of the meal. Loud date night vibes. Thanks!

Here is a plate of chicken parm very delicious!

    Is there an Easter menus?

Hi there - great question! While we are open on Easter we are serving our regular menu. To view our menus please visit us at https://stellaburlingame.com/menus/

Do they have a Children's menu?

    They do not.

    What is the email please?

Hi Elena, we can be reached at info@stellaburlingame.com.

    What is your corkage policy?

Hi William, our guests may bring up to two 750 ml bottles of wine that are not on the current wine list (you can view our wine list at stellaburlingame.com/menus). There is a corkage fee of $30 per bottle.

Which of the vegetarian options can be made allium-free (no onion, no garlic)?

I would say it's probably best to reach out to the restaurant and ask them just to be sure. I know when Stella was at the former location, the kitchen didn't do any substitutions for their dishes, but they'd probably make exceptions for food…

Do you accept reservations for more than 4? This online reservation system is showing no future availability for tables more than 4 for any dates. We have a party of 5.

Hi Christina, yes we do accept reservations for more than four people. Please contact us at 650-347-5733 to make a reservation for more than four guests.

Can someone please post good pictures showing the new outdoor space which shows everything clearly? Some of us are still only dining outdoors.

I don't live nearby, but I posted a photo titled "April 2023" just now. It shows the indoor space, but you can zoom in on the back patio. It's covered, but it is outdoors. There are many tables that are comfortably spaced apart. Some are normal…

May I ask how much is the corkage fee?

    Hello Mable, Great question!…

Is there a private dining room area?

Thanks so much for asking about our private dining areas. We have some great private dining options in our new home. Some even have Audio Visual if you wanted to hold a business meeting or even a birthday party with rotating photos that you can…

Is there nice, year round outdoor seating? Pictures?

Yes, once we open there will be a year-round outdoor patio section with heat lamps. We will post pictures once we are closer to opening in mid-March.

Does Stella Alpina Osteria offer a Chef's Table experience?

Hi Lisa, we don't currently offer a Chef's Table experience. We can host a private event, so if that's of interest to you please give us a call at 650-347-5733

How much do you guys charge for corkage?

We have a $30 corkage fee, or you can select the perfect wine from our collection.

Do they serve cheese wheel pasta?

No, they don't serve that ( but it sure would be awesome if they did).

We went on a slow night and still dealt with a total "slow turnaround" and some classic operational gaffes. They couldn't find the bottle of wine we actually wanted and then spent way too much time trying to sell us on a different bottle we had zero interest in. It was a bit of a circus just to get the basics situated. But then the food arrived, and that's where the magic happened. I've seen reviews complaining about a "lack of flavor," but that was not our experience at all. We started with the beet salad--the honey-lemon notes were nice, though nothing to write home about. But once the mains hit, everything changed. The Carpaccio was spot on, the Ribeye (prepared perfectly to medium) was delicious, and the Branzino special was fantastic. And the Rigatoni Rustica? Believe the hype. It's a classic for a reason. Bottom line: The service is definitely sloppy, but I wouldn't dismiss this place because of it. The food is genuinely good Italian and the prices are reasonable for Burlingame. My advice? Skip the salads, ignore the service "monkey dance," and go straight for the classics. I'd definitely go back just for the steak and the Rigatoni alone. Highly recommended if you actually care about what's on your plate. An A++ local find.

Always love the option to join the online waitlist ahead of time when reservations aren't available. Favorite dishes of the night were: -Gnocchi Fritto appetizer: Never had fried gnocchi before, had a great puffy texture. Truffle taste in the truffle cream sauce wasn't very strong. -Zucchine e Maiz lasagna: Pesto was a great sauce choice and paired well with the zucchini and corn. -Squid Ink Seafood Pasta (special): Generous seafood portions and the dish was flavorful. -Complimentary focaccia: Fluffy and yummy with olive oil. Other dishes: The Italian Sausage lasagna was fine. I personally love crispy lasagna edges, but some people found it too crisp and too dry. The salad (Insalata di Rucola) wasn't mind blowing, but I'm glad we ordered a veg to cut through the richness and heaviness of three carb-heavy entrees. The restaurant itself is smaller than expected, so I would avoid coming here with large parties. It also felt really hot and stuffy inside, which I anticipate getting worse as summer progresses. Seafood Linguni Special (5/5): If the waiter tells you this is the special today, this is a MUST ORDER! We substituted the squid ink spaghetti with linguini, and it perfectly soaked up the DECADENT SAUCE. Not too salty and perfectly balanced. Complimented the seafood incredibly. I will come back and eat this EVERY TIME. Pesto Gnocchi (4/5): They cook the gnocchi really tender and soft, so don't expect really chewy potato dumplings. I made reservations for our party of eight for 6:30 PM via OpenTable. Easy peasy. Adding a few extra minutes to our travel time for finding street parking, we arrived just in time. No other tables were occupied, inside nor outside at the front patio. The venue, a warm space with dramatic lighting, was very clean and tidy during our visit. Trapeze's menu offers Italian fare with Mediterranean and Californian nuances. Upon seating, we were served baskets of complimentary bread accompanied with a unique red thick dipping oil which Peter enjoyed so much that he asked for more. The servers happily gave us extra servings. In addition to cocktails, wine, and coffee drinks, below are what we ordered for dinner: Lemon Citrus and Avocado Salad ($13) - I believe that Mom ordered this and found it to be light and refreshing. Ahi Tuna Tartar ($20) - I think that Peter and Mara shared this and ate it all up. I didn't hear any comments on it, though. Beet Salad ($14) - A very nice salad with generous slices of red and yellow beets and goat cheese. For an additional $12, Auntie Marissa added Salmon to her salad and had it as her main dish which filled her up. Grilled Polenta Cake ($12) - Auntie Marissa found this starter to be rich and filling. She said that Pal would really like it. Penne Con Pomodora E Melanzane ($20) - DJ was not very impressed by this bowl of pasta and eggplant, unfortunately. Paella Valencia ($32) - Uncle Danny is not a big seafood eater, but he was very pleased with this Spanish rice dish. Grilled Filet Mignon ($50) - Yum! This was my order and I loved it. Duck Ragu ($26) - Peter did not seem as enthusiastic about this pasta dish as he did with the complimentary red dipping oil for the baskets of bread. Penne Al Forno ($26) - Mom ordered this and thought that it was good. Classic Italian Tiramisu ($12) - This was served to me on the house, topped with a lit candle for my birthday. Everyone enjoyed sharing it. Bread Pudding ($13) - Ok, according to DJ. Trio of French Mini-Chocolate Beignets ($12) - These round beignets were like light donut holes filled with chocolate. They were nice, especially with the side of whipped cream and sliced strawberries. Service was excellently friendly, accommodating, and attentive. Although DJ didn't think highly of Trapeze Restaurant, Mom and I were delighted by the dinner and would return with pleasure.

The food here is okay, but the service is very disappointing. We came with our one-year-old…read moredaughter on a Friday evening and asked for an outdoor table with the heater on. It took over 10 minutes just to get the heater turned on, and the waiter only approached us twice, once to take our order and once to bring the food. While eating, they turned off the heater, forcing us to finish our meal in the cold. When we asked for the check, the staff suddenly became polite, clearly more interested in getting a tip. Good food, but poor service. I won't be coming back.

We've had Tim a couple of times and a man named after the Wind. (That's what he told us his name meant but I dont remember his actual name). They know the menu, they're prompt and well dressed. When we've come on a birthday, we get a cute little cut of something sweet with a candle. Second, the food! Man oh man, the food!! They have an insane in-house charcuterie program with incredible imports and lovely accoutrements you dont usually get like tallow and compotes. The main dishes are innovative and flavorful. Plus they plate them on these lovely, hefty ceramics. The drinks are also very very tasty and are truly specialty both in flavor profiles and preparation. They're balanced and punchy. I LOVE coming here. I love it. You can pay more for a way way worse experience near by. 12/10 recommend.

We had no reservations and sat at the communal table but with no wait. Excellent service, our waiter was so attentive. Always filling up our water. Food came out quite fast as well. The 2 best things were the pizza and the blue prawns. The rest of the food was good but nothing that blew my mind.
