Tonight we had dinner here and the food was amazing! The bread was fresh out of the oven, the calamari was tender and not too greasy, and our entrée's were great. Unfortunately the server is why we rated them 3 stars. When she walked up and greeted us, she called us kids.... If I had to guess I would say she was in her early twenties, and my husband and I are in our thirties.... It was just awkward. Then she threw in other pet names throughout the meal ( Hun , sweetie etc....) overall it just felt inappropriate and not sincere. I'm sure some customers enjoy her personality/show, but she should be able to read people and know how to communicate with them in a normal way. If we decide to give them another shot, I do not want her waiting on us. The food is the only reason we would go back, not the experience. read more

I've been coming to Stephen Anthony's for years but since I've only expereinced breakfast that is all I will be commenting on. The restaurant has an expansive open feel and I usually try to get a booth with an ocean view. Well Hagar pond is far from an Ocean but you can get lost watching the ducks and swans swimming around this questionably clean body of water. The service is slow in the majority of times I've had breakfast there but who enjoys a rushed breakfast anyways and it allows more time to familiarize yourself with the local wildlife outside the windows. Breakfast is the typical faire with good sized portions and prices are reasonable. I do love their French toast which I would have just about any day of the week...and the French toast made with Italian bread is by far the best although cinammon raisin is a close second. I can speak only for the breakfast aspect of Stephen Anthony's here, but that is very good. A huge selection in the breakfast menu. The cute, dual mini-waffles are delicious and the coffee is good too. The experience is enhanced if you are lucky to get a window seat over looking the duck filled pond. read more

The waitress kept Coming over to apologize that it was taking so long I felt bad for her but there was no sign of management will NEVER come back and I will be sure to spread the word!! This place is great! we always have nice servers, and the food is always awesome, it's not a fancy room that you dine it, it needs renovations, and reminds me of restaraunts in Maine. But I happen to like that feel. kinda old school decor with old photos on the wall, and comfy booths to sit in. I always get steak here and it is well worth the price. I don't know why it isnt more popular than it is. It doesnt hurt that we always get seated right away. But I want to see this place thrive! I went here with my dad for breakfast a few days ago. Wow, great service, big portions, and very pretty view. The waitress was great. She said it was close enough to lunch time (20 min,) that if we wanted, we could order lunch. I can't wait to try lunch next time i go!! read more

I went to the Stephen Anthony's Marketplace right next door which serves a variety of deli meat, sausages, pasta and sandwiches. I didn't even have an opportunity to eat the food because I was so disgusted! I could see right into the kitchen and I literally watched the cook (who was listening to his headphones) eat a meatball sub he made himself, and cook my sandwich with his bare hands. When I told the manager what I was seeing, he groaned, shook his head and walked into the kitchen. I then had another employee come out and say they were remaking my sandwich. I kindly asked for my money back and received no apology from the manager or employee who returned my money to me. I will never go here again! read more

One of the worst omelets I've ever had. Just a thin egg surface on the outside stuffed with overcooked and oily ham, peppers and onions along with thin soupy melted American cheese. Several ham chunks were full of gristle. Coffee was weak and thin. Omelets should be thick, fluffy without not so much grilled messiness inside. If this is what the locals like, then all the power to them and their low expectations. Also watch your step coming in... The parking lot is literally shellacked with goose and duck droppings. My Husband and I eat there the other night and the food was outstanding. The service was good and the meals were reasonably priced.

Was very crowded,,,but it was a Sunday. Hostess had no personality and gave my table to the wrong people. I had a party of 4 - she called my name a couple walked up to her and without checking she just sat them - when I asked her about it she had to make them get up - so they walked out. Was uncomfortable! Service was very slow - the waiter then told us the kitchen was backed up - so meals took a while. Food was good when it arrived - i had the pumpkin pancakes - very very good! The food is so good - just the service is a bit lacking - you would think they would have extra staff on the weekends to keep up! Still worth going back though. read more

Have been for breakfast on weekend multiple times. It is the best thing they serve. It is a little worn out inside and dingy but I have enjoyed breakfast except on Mothers Day weekend it is cray cray that day. Recently I feel the regular menu has gone more to the service food processed food, my mashed potatoes last time had that gluey consistency you know the food truck brought them in a vacuum sealed bag. First time I ever went there for evening meal there were 5 of us and we all had great meals but cant say that about the last few visits. read more

We love this restaurant and go at least a couple of times a month but today was a little disappointing. I ordered the stack of three pancakes, and one of the pancakes was very burned. And I kind of feel like the kitchen tried to hide it, because it was on the bottom, and this has also happened to my daughter in the past. Before I knew it was burned, I had put butter on the top two pancakes. When I lifted them to put butter on the bottom one, a burnt smell immediately came up, and I could see it was a very dark brown. I took one bite to see if it was okay to eat, and it tasted awful. I took it off my plate and put it in a separate dish to ask for a new one, and as the waitress was walking by she actually said "that's burnt, I'll have the kitchen make you a new one". So I find it very unpleasant that the waitress knew on sight there was a problem, yet the kitchen put it on my plate, at the bottom where it was less visible. We also were disappointed in my husband's maple sausage breakfast sandwich. The sausage itself only filled about half the bites. The rest were bread and egg. I gave my husband some of my bacon to add to his sandwich. We love it here so we will definitely give it another try. But too many visits like this and we will find a new breakfast spot. read more

Stephen Anthony's is a candidate for Restaurant Impossible. Despite its setting on overlooking a pond, it is dingy, dirty and uninviting. But it's close so we used to go there off and on. Then my husband got sick and our son, who ate the leftovers, also got sick. We stopped going for a long time and then decided to try it again. This place is incredible for breakfast. If you're headed east out of Boston, this is the place to stop for a bite to eat before you get on the Turnpike. It's just amazing. The sausage is delicious, the eggs are fresh, the coffee is good, there's a view of a pond out the back windows, and it's big enough so that it doesn't get horribly crowded. The service is great, everyone is friendly. I cannot recommend this place enough--it's just incredible. There's also an antique store and a country store-type place right next door. I usually stock up on maple sugar candy for the long drive ahead. Look out for the ducks in the parking lot; they are fearless! read more

Conveniently located in a quaint reconstructed village by Henry Ford on the Marlborough/Sudbury line, this restaurant shares an antique motif with an adjacent antique shop, candy store and general store, and is next to a small pond with ducks, geese and a swan. The decor is rather Thomas Kinkade-like, and the food, while not terrible, is nothing too special, just eggs (brown overcooked) and other breakfast fare, not unlike Friendly's. The staff is friendly enough but the service has been slow. I can't put my finger on it, but even though it is around the corner, I still don't go there, and I usually like quaint breakfast places. Yelp makes two stars seem like an indictment, but it isn't really, just faint praise. read more

I went for breakfast this morning with my son on the way to school. It wasn't busy at all - maybe three or four tables besides ours. It took kind of a long time for our food to arrive, maybe 15 minutes or so, which is a long time at breakfast. I ordered the corned beef hash with poached eggs and was disappointed to find the yolks completely cooked. I assume poached eggs would have runny yolks, but perhaps I should have specified that's how I wanted them. The silver dollar pancakes my son ordered (6 in a kid's order) were much bigger than expected - more like saucer-sized than silver dollar. But he liked them well enough. Went here for Sunday breakfast. They were busy (5 minute wait). . . it was OK. Meaning, I'll go back for breakfast, but it's just a busy dive. I had the breakfast burrito (unwrapped because I don't eat wheat) the sausage had spice (a plus) but I could see the oil: gross. There was maybe a slice of cheese (hey, the perks of unwrapping your food!) and maybe one egg. I usually apprecaite it when things are not egg heavy but this one could have used a bit more egg. I found it odd that there wasn't a side of salsa, sour cream or guac: not even ON the menu. I did ask for a side of sour cream and it was received. My breakfast companion had 2 eggs/toast/sausage. Each serving was at proper temperature. Ok, so you are aksing why not any more stars? Try getting a beverage. I had to ask 3 times for water, for my diet coke, and my friend kept having to ask for milk for her tea. Yes, I get that you are busy, but that is serving 101. Plus our server never came back to see if everything was OK stopping only by to drop off their check. Yes, I still get you are busy . . . . and we still tipped you 20% and/but ... I'll go back but I'll be more attune to flagging down when my glass is 1/2 full. read more

After 3 years of living here and not yet writing a review, you might ask: "why now". Well, I'll tell you why smart-ass. I'm hunkered down for the next 24-36 hours trying to get through this Hurricane Sandy business. I've got all the lights on and the heat turned up to 75 because I want to enjoy it while it lasts. With all the wind and rain and impending darkness, I can't help but think about how awesome the Macaroni and Cheese with Ham is at this place. It's the perfect goddamn dish. It satifies every food craving you will ever have in one goddamn plate. It's the balls. And when the power inevitably goes out I will be sitting in the dark, shivering, wishing that I had that gigantic dish of pasta, cheese, and ham to warm my insides. This was our first visit. The view from the windows onto the lake are lovely, with swans swimming back and forth in front of us. The place is a little dark inside, filled with booths and we were promptly seated. The broccoli soup was prepared vegetarian and had a great parmesan flavor to it. My wife ordered a sandwich made with brie, but that was not available. Her second choice, a vegetable sandwich was tasty. All of the sandwiches were made with what appeared was restaurant baked artisan breads that were excellent. I had the oyster poor boy. It was served on a bun that was cut in half, so it looked like it was half of a sandwich and I don't recall if it was described that way on the "Specials" menu. So this round bun was then cut as if it was a hot dog roll, I was really disappointed with the few oysters it had and how they stuffed it with lettuce. I removed half the lettuce. My complaint to the waitress about it did result with $3 being taking off of the bill, on this $11 or $12 sandwich. My wife's food was well presented but my disappointing poor boy has me not trusting any portions on the fish menu. I don't like being taken for a fool twice. The poor boys that I have ordered at other restaurants were the only filling in the roll and never included lettuce. We would return here, if in the area but again, the kitchen has me doubting their sincerity and the size of the portions and I will consider not ordering from the fish menu. read more

My absolute favorite place to get breakfast in Marlborough/Sudbury! I've been going there for the last ten years and they still don't disappoint. Sometimes you see Chris Evans there, which is pretty cool. The place overlooks a pond and it's very cute, almost colonial look. I've only ever gone for breakfast, but I highly recommend it. read more
