Just saying the name "Steven Anthony's" makes me salivate for breakfast. I don't mix it up at this joint, no way, I go straight for the maple sausage breakfast. It is amazing... homemade sausage, 2 eggs cooked any way you like, and toast. You want to eat the maple in as many bites as possible and as slowly as humanly possible. I moved from Framingham to Norwood a few years back and this breakfast is probably the only thing I miss.... The food, in my opinion, is worth the wait. I don't think I ever waited more than 15 minutes for a table for 2. I have only been here for breakfast but have been told the food is just as good for lunch and dinner. Terrible service. Our table was surrounded by 3 other tables. We ordered 10 minutes before one of the tables, 15 minutes before another, and the third wasn't even seated until we were there close to 20 minutes. All three tables got their breakfast before us. Not a good situation when you've got a couple of hungry kids waiting. When we were finally served, half our order wasn't there. Server blamed the kitchen. The food, once all there, was good, which is why we gave them 2 stars. Not a place i plan to frequent in the future. Cheap breakfast, hearty breakfast. Lots of food. Its "ok". Although skeptical about having fish for breakfast, the poached salmon was really good, no complaints. Its an "old foggy" type of establishment, (Hey and I'm a young old foggy of mid century-ish type!) dingy, but they serve a LOT of food for little bucks. Good value. I tried a johnny cake, because my ex has raved about them, and to tell you the truth, I found it pasty, with a plastic-y aftertaste (not sure if I'm doing that justice). Honestly, this place kind of sucks but we've been dealing with it for years since there are so very few restaurants around. One time, we had a party of 12, and we were waiting on 2 of our guests. The other 10 were already there. They put together a table for us, and told us we couldn't be seated until the last 2 people arrived. They would rather have the table for 12 sitting there looking empty then to free up some room in their (tiny) waiting area by letting TEN people sit down. What type of logic is that?? The managers' logic!!! Not to mention, the manager is familiar with my family and knows we could in there often. It's like he was TRYING to lose business. Anywho, I haven't been back since and I will try to avoid it by all costs. Ok. I am upping them by a star, grudgingly. My food has been delicious the last few times I've gone,and that is the only reason. It still took almost 45 minutes for it to show up (yes, I timed it), and by the time brunch rolls around, I am hungry and bitc*y. The owner... Oh he just doesn't seem to care and is very dismissive and slightly unpleasant. I've gone so many times expecting something else, that I'm just giving that one up now. Ha ha. Maple sausage sandwich on a bagel. Yum! Perhaps a little overpriced considering you don't get potatoes with it (Paid $3.95 for has browns - what?!), but it really is delicious. Carla almost always gets the Western sandwich, and this time, it was freakin' huge. Our friends Mary and Judie had lunch stuff and enjoyed that as well. Food is good. Service is horrible. The word horrible does not even do justice to the gross incompetence of the wait staff, the overall restaurant management, and perhaps the kitchen staff. I am sorry but I have been to other restaurants that are busy, and they at least have an operational efficiency to crowd management and customer satisfaction. Not here. Here you get an attitude for even asking why your food is taking that long. This is the second time this has happened. I keep giving them the benefit of doubt but apparently it is not worth it for the good food they serve. Time to call it quits. read more

Went for breakfast on Labor Day, hadn't been here in a while so decided to come again. After putting our names in, it was about 5-10 minutes to wait. Not long at all. We were seated at one of our favorite tables facing the water, so we sat down with our menus. The waitress came up almost immediately and we ordered coffees. She came back with the coffee and we ordered our food. It was extremely busy, so it took over 30 minutes for our food to come out. When the food came out it was cold. My bf, wasn't going to send it back but I told him I wasn't going to eat cold food. It was weird cause 15 minutes before our food arrived at our table the waitress stopped by to tell us it would be right out, so I can only guess she got caught up. As soon as we flagged down the waitress, explained the food was cold and we wanted it heated (and new waffles made since re-heated waffles are gross) she took everything away and they made all new food for us. We had it in about 5-10 minutes so it was great. The new food was hot and delicious. I applaud the manager and the waitstaff for making everything right with out any kind of a hassle. read more

Absolutely love the breakfast for selection, taste and value. The waitresses in the morning are always super friendly and they are very attentive with the coffee which is always appreciated. Dinner has always been more hit and miss with me and we now rarely go for it but I love this place for breakfast! Definitely try the sausage sampler - it's delicious! read more

I have never had a bad meal here. Their cheeseburgers are excellent! They closed down for a few months at the beginning of the pandemic, but have recently reopened. They took the time to renovate the inside of the restaurant and it's perfect, as it feels "refreshed" but hasn't lost its homey feel. I really love this place. I have only been for breakfast but I hear the dinner is fantastic as well...apparently they serve a good steak. They make their own sausage and offer sausage breakfast specials (maple, honey mustard, choriso, Chinese, Italian...). Delicious. The maple sausage is amazing, I always get the Maple Sausage Breakfast. The sausage sandwich is also a delight. I recently started taking some friends there and they love it too. It's very popular so expect a bit of a wait on the weekends. It's also right next to a candy store, an antique store, a bakery, a general store, and a pond where about 100 ducks/geese hang out. You can feed the ducks, or watch them cross the street. read more

We have been going to Stephen Anthony's every Sunday morning for about a year. When the shut down, because if Covid, happened we hoped it wouldn't put this wonderful restaurant out of business. Thankfully they have reopened and we have already been back now twice a week. Everyone there is so nice and always smiling. I have been coming here for years and the quality of food and speediness in service has noticeably declined, I am hesitant to say I'll be back anytime soon. The service is SLOW, even when the restaurant is half empty. Truly unacceptable. The quality of food has also gone way wayyyy down. Portion sizes are small for the price, eggs and potatoes are always bland and the corned beef is from a can, clearly not worth the almost $10 cost. Can easily be made better in ones own kitchen. Stephen Anthony's has been a staple on route 20 between Sudbury and Marlboro for as long as I can remember. They are very consistent and offer decent quality breakfast food at a good price. I would travel across the state for their maple sausage. Boy is that stuff good, however, if they don't GET SOME NEW COFFEE, they won't be seeing me around much anymore. You can get the dark roast if you want something a little better. Long waits on the weekends and even when there arent many people there, it can take awhile for food to come out. I have been eating here for many many years now, and this is why I kept coming back after each bad experience. Sadly the last time we ate here - will be the very last time we eat there. The only thing consistent about Stephen Anthony's these days is the bad service and filthy maple syrup tables. I'm fairly certain the dish washer is blind as you never get clean silverware or glasses - the wait staff is forever harried and treat you as though you woke them from a sound sleep in the middle of the night and forced them to cook you breakfast. On our last visit - post the obligatory sending back of our dirty utensils - and the waitress extremely curtly taking our order our food came abnormally fast - because it wasn't what we ordered at all. I politely agreed to keep this wrong dish since it was somewhat close to my order- but requested that the waitress please just bring me the well done maple sausage I requested as well - sadly for my husband he had to send back his blueberry pancakes because he prefers them without HAIR. When the waitress walked by again 15 minutes later - me still without the sausage and my now ice cold eggs congealing in front of me - and my husband still with no replacement hair free pancakes... I stopped her to say, "will my husband's pancakes be much longer, and could I please get my well done sausages as well" - her response "What sausages" needless to say at this point I was more than ticked off since this is now going on the third time I'm ordering them. I very politely attempted to explain her mistake and she wanted no part of the conversation, instead cutting me off to tell me how she has a larger party and WALKED AWAY - my husband and I left the cold eggs on the table and walked out - good job Stephen Anthony's - you managed to lose a customer who has been eating there for close to 25 years. read more

This was my favorite breakfast place until yesterday morning when the owner of the restaurant showed incredible rudeness and inhospitality towards my friends and I. It was a cold, rainy, snowy Sunday morning and a group of us wanted to get breakfast+lunch. One of our friends was going to be late and she told us to go ahead and start without her. We asked to be seated so that we could start ordering, and the owner informed us that it was not allowed. He said that if there was a wait, she would not be able to sit with us once we sat down. We told him that she would be atleast 20 minutes, and that we'd like to start eating. He said that she would still not be able to sit with us, and that HE'D PUT HER AT HER OWN TABLE once she got there! There was no line at 1:30 in the afternoon, we were standing by the door with cold air blowing in, and we were starving. We made the decision to go somewhere else to eat. I informed the owner of this decision, and his response? "Sorry. That's been our policy for 23 years." Um hello? Just because you've been doing something for 23 years does not mean it is the right thing to do! I know that normally restaurants do ask that everyone be present before seating the party, however, in special circumstances, or if one person is going to extremely late, I have never had a problem getting a table. He turned 6 people away from a meal at his restaurant. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right?" Especially in this economy! Funny thing is...two of my friends absolutely hated this place the last time they went, and my bf and I raved about it so much that they decided to give it another shot. Instead, I always end up with COLD food that is subpar, disgusting homefries, and watered down coffee. The pancakes are fine but everything else is just always cold and always bland. This place is always packed but the food is terribly overrated. The maple sausage, which they are known for, is a sugar patty of ground meat. There is so much sugar that the outside of it just burns when it cooks. There is no balance of savory and sweet, it's just sweet. The chicken fried steak was okay. My favorite place to get breakfast in the area. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices, and delicious food have been keeping me coming back year after year. Consistency does seem to have been slipping a bit recently though, but they are always responsive if I want something changed and/or heated up. I have been meaning to eat here for years! I finally had the opportunity when a friend suggest we meet here for dinner one Saturday night. Two adults, two kids seven and nine at 6:15PM. When I arrived my friend was already seated and had been waiting for us for about 10 minutes or so. I noticed there were no drinks on the table and figured she had already ordered or was being polite and waiting for us to join them. Décor: Bad. Old, dingy, dated, dirty, etc. Large water stains on the drop ceiling tiles, terrible patterns and wall hangings...thrift store leavings basically. Poorly lit as well, way too bright. If I were them I would want to turn down the lights. This is a far far cry from what the restaurant looks like on the outside. I was very disappointed right away but held out high hopes for the food and service. Time went by as we chatted and still nobody had come by. Eventually the young lady who was our server appeared to take our drink orders...what??!! My friend had been sitting there since before I arrived and had not even been acknowledged. Drinks finally come out and my wine glass is dirty, not "water mark" dirty but dried on food dirty, gross. I politely ask for another glass...minutes pass...finally I just start drinking out of the carafe. During this time I notice a hair in my club soda, awesome. I flag down a server who is very apologetic and brings me a new water...not club soda though so I ask again for another drink. My wine glass finally arrives after I am more than halfway through the carafe which by the way had a VERY weak pour. The Shirley Temple had no cherries. How much more was I to endure? It took a very long time to order our food, get our food, get refills, etc. I couldn't help but notice how empty the restaurant was during our whole meal, not even half full. As we would sit there desperately trying to get somebody's attention, I would watch our server bussing tables in the corner for some unknown reason because there was NOBODY waiting to be seated in this mostly empty restaurant. During the whole debacle I never once saw a manager, no apologies not an offer of a complimentary dessert, NOTHING. Miraculously, the food is actually pretty good which is the reason for the one star. The bread is fresh, warm and soft and the food seemed fresh as well. My filet was slightly overcooked but at that point I didn't expect much so whatever. Nothing to write home about but I echo the sentiments of most reviewers that this is the only game in town, so you take what you can get unfortunately. If they were surrounded by three or more comparable options this place would no doubt be out of business. read more

Don't let the appearance of the water damaged tiles inside fool you, this place is amazing for breakfast. The ambiance is hands down spectacular when you approach it, it sits on a small lake that happened to have several geese out in the fog. Very charming. The food and service were just as amazing. I ordered johnny cakes (a northeast must) and the Filet Benedict. I have never had a breakfast so over the top. The Filet was perfectly grilled to a medium rare and I was surprised at just how good hollandaise is with steak. The Johnny Cakes were top notch. I am very hesitant to write a review of Stephen Anthony's. I really don't want it to be discovered (because then it would be as crazy crowded as the other restaurants in Metrowest on Friday and Saturday nights). Also, this is probably one of the few reviews that is not about their breakfast. I have been to dinner at SA's dozens of times. I always get a great meal at a reasonable price. The fish is very fresh, and the prime rib (in 3 sizes including a colossal cut) is outstanding and is better than anyplace else in Metrowest. There are very few good, homey, comfort food places that you can casually go to on date night or with other couples. The food is that good. YOU GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE! read more

The foods good but that's about it. I ordered the chicken and waffles, but I was given a single waffle, not the biggest deal ever but would've like to been told it was a single waffle for like $14. So back to what I was saying, I got a single waffle with a couple wings a side of home fries and my GF got a plain waffle. That small order took roughly 45 mins to come out, my GF was then given a waffle with strawberries that you actually gotta pay more for and she's allergic to them. So all he did was just pick it up and bring it to another table and then we waited maybe another 5 minutes for the other one. Another time prior we'd had a booth by with the lake view and the e tire area was ant infested. On the table, window, Booth everywhere. So that's kinda gross. It's cool tho. Food can be good when it's slow and they take their time. But other times it's just meh. Likes it fine but not something I couldn't have done at home. Just came home from Stephen Anthonys and the food was good but the service is really lacking. The reason is they are desperately in need of help in the kitchen and on the floor. No one even spoke to us for the first 10 minutes and the food took another 20-25 min on top of that. We were there by 830 am and didn't see any food until about 9. The server was overloaded with tables and the kitchen was sloooow. Another clue they need help (besides the sign out front) was all the food came out luke warm to down right cold. The line was out the door when we left and I can't imagine those people will do any better than we did. If you are looking for a quick in and out breakfast this isn't it. read more
