I had a particularly tricky home insurance situation where my awful previous home insurance provider declined to renew me because of a claim that was largely due to their negligence (long story). The renewal date was coming up soon but the claim was still open--so most carriers wouldn't even look at it. This was a very difficult home to insure, despite being in great condition and in a neighborhood free of hazards. He managed to navigate an increasingly difficult California insurance environment (a few major carriers just up and left the market during my home insurance saga) to get me a new policy that while more expensive that what I previously had, was far cheaper than what other agents had offered prior to contacting him. I found this office through Reddit as i was looking for an agent to talk to and get a quote. Stephen was highly recommended and despite me being good 30 miles from this office, i decided to give this agent a call. During initial call, i spent around 30 min talking to him as he explain to me that current market for both Auto and Home is extremely hard and even getting a quote will be challenge despite having a clean driving record and no home claims. I had few more talk with Stephen after initial call and he recommended that i call another agent that he thought might be able to help as he wasn't able to find anything good for me. Can't say enough about Stephen, and I'm not even using him for my insurance needs. He was quick to reply to my general inquiry about wishing to switch insurance coverage and providers. I had sent out 3 requests to varying agencies, but decided to go with Stephen because his email reply was friendly, informative, and approachable. I provided the requisite information and he was immediately on the job. He kept me in the loop at least once if not twice a day, just to let me know that there was progress being made. And within 48 hours he had the information available for me to review. Perhaps due to the nature of my home / auto requirements, Stephen felt that I was better serviced by a different agent. He transferred me over to the care of a colleague of his, making sure all details were sorted through. He got nothing out of the work and effort that he had already put in, except for perhaps professional satisfaction. This really built implicit trust. So although I am not going through Stephen for my insurance needs (by his own advice and recommendation, because I could get better serviced elsewhere), I cannot recommend him more given the experience that I've had with him. He's definitely one of those professionals that you keep in your records for safekeeping for future reference.
