What is amazing to me is that I still cannot find any place in LA that can cook brisket properly. Mine was tough, overdone, and much of the fat not rendered... which suggests that they are cooking at too high a temperature and too short a time. Post oak wood, low and slow, 225-240 degrees, for 20 or so hours, makes the best brisket, just as they do in Lockhart TX and other great spots. If Sticks did this, you wouldn't be able to get in the place it would be so crowded. read more

My daddy owned a barbecue joint when I was growing up so I have fairly high standards when it comes to 'cue. In my judgment, this is the best BBQ on the Northshore -- probably in metro-New Orleans. Of course, good 'cue is a little hard to come by around here (we're too close to the Coast so all the seafood and good Cajun/Creole eats crowd out the field a little bit when it comes to other traditional Southern cuisines). The Pitmaster here is originally from up North but has lived out West and down South ever since and had the good taste to marry a local girl -- he apparently learned something along the way because the 'cue is as down-home as it gets -- slow-smoked, hickory-infused goodness (first the Yankees stole our spoons but now they're stealing our cooking, too)! If you get a to go order, I recommend you open the container so you know what you are getting. I paid a hefty price for the two meat plate. I asked for chicken and brisket and greens and coleslaw. It was about 5:30 and they were out of greens. When I got home and opened the container, I saw a chicken breast and two slices of brisket. TWO! Chicken was dry but not bad. We found this place browsing BBQ places on Yelp and came based off of the great reviews and we are so glad we did! We got the smoked wings in a sweet jalapeño sauce, fries, Mac and cheese, and baked beans. All of the food was AMAZING. Best wings I've ever had. So date night came early this week and I am so glad it did. My sweetie and I came here and it was literally some of the best bbq I have had in my life. I had the ribs and sausage and they were big smoked to perfection. Now, getting macaroni and cheese in a restaurant might not always be a good idea, but in this case, leaving without it would be doing yourself a disservice. I went here before work and ordered 3 plates for my coworkers, all the same. What I ordered was the ribs and pulled pork with 2 sides wich was the macaronis and potato salad.... Now I don't really go out to BBQ restaurants like talking about it but I definitely have to say that Sticks N Bones will be seeing a lot more of me there... This place rocks!!! Not our favorite Bar-B-Que...we're used to places like Rudys, Muellers, La BBQ, Franklin etc. (Austin,TX locations). Personally I did not care for for the sauces either. A blessing for BBQ lovers! Centrally located on the Northshore, this pork house has great smoked, tender BBQ. The side portions are well sized and perfectly seasoned. A lot of great food for not too much money. I'm really glad this place is close to home because I will be going there often. Mandeville has been lacking a good BBQ joint ever since Creech's closed many years ago, so, I was excited when I saw Sticks N Bones Bar-B-Que getting ready open up. Seeing another review I decided to check it out. The decor is nice, but the table coverings seemed Hawaiian style. Maybe it's me, but, I think the red/white checkered table cloths throw off BBQ nostalgia. One other thing is to remove the toys that the kids can play with at the table. I just wonder how many other kids have played with it before mine. Ok, enough of that....the food. The Q was awesome, tender with the perfect amount of hickory smoke. I had the Big Smokey which got me pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. All were great! Additionally, I had the baked beans and potato salad for sides and they were good. Now, one of my pet peeves...portion size. I've eaten at Voodoo bbq and have seen them plating, using a scale to weigh out how much meat goes on your plate. You don't have to worry about that here, sandwiches and platters come stacked. If you can appreciate that, check them out! read more

I was there on February 4 for lunch as my friend had recommended how good the food was there. I love BBQ food and there aren't too many places in this town that has good BBQ food. I was sitting there trying to enjoy my lunch when I heard the owner speaking badly to his server. He belittle the poor girl that she was almost in tears and I could see that she was about to loose it. He didn't just belittle the server, but also the chef in the kitchen. For their sides, you must try their brisket baked beans and mac-n-cheese. This is a must try when you're in Mandeville. Took my husband there for his birthday yesterday. First time for us....what a great place!! The food was excellent. Portions are big but worth the to go for late night munching. The brisket was so tender and tasty. The ambiance was very chill and the service was prompt and excellent.
