I visited Sticky Rice as my first meal in New York, and it was just as I imagined. Long and narrow seating areas, beautiful decor, and good food. I got the Drunken Noodles, and it was not spicy at all. The flavor was there, but thr kick was missing. The server was attentive but not overbearing, always keeping our water full and seeing if we needed anything. The interior is very dark, so I wouldn't recommend coming if you like seeing what you're eating. Overall, good food, but it can definitely be spicier. read more

I stopped in to get a Thai ice tea and got a cup overflowing with ice. After 3 sips the drink was essentially gone. I complained and the staff told me I I was drinking too fast. I asked for a refill and they declined getting loud saying "no refill, you drink too fast". It totally makes sense why the restaurant is empty on a busy street. For $7 I will never be coming back and recommend going anywhere else in the neighborhood. read more

Incredible Thai spot with incredible food and service! Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. We sat outside and our server constantly refilled our water, made sure we were cool amidst the heat outside, and answered all our questions in regards to the menu. I tried the Pad Thai and the Pad See-Hew, both had so much flavor and the noodles tasted very fresh which was impressive. Bonus points for their adorable outside decor! Had a great experience here with my kid after visiting the nearby Tenement Museum. We were freezing and starving, and Sticky Rice promised cozy seating and fast, spicy food. Delivered on both fronts: our comfortable table (with a space heater!) set the stage, the kid loved her vegetarian drunken noodles and I enjoyed my basil fried rice and Tom yum soup. I'm sure this place is good to some. My friends and I ordered and while waiting on the food I noticed everyone's food came. I thought maybe it took awhile for them to cook mine so I didn't bother to say anything until everyone was almost half way done their food. Politely I asked them about mine and they said "oh you ordered something?" and proceeded to make mine. It came out pretty quick after and when I tasted my soup it was SO sweet and not Tom Yum at all, mind you I was with my thai boyfriend and we occasionally eat Thai food and variations of Tom yum but that night, it did not taste anything like it so I had to take it back. I was starving and was trying to find something healthy to eat after running around all day. The salmon salad was taster than I expected and super healthy! It did take about 15 minutes to come but it was a delicious healthy food option. First off let me start by saying, this is my absolute favorite Thai place in New York. Sticky Rice's aesthetic is chic and fun. The staff is wonderful and attentive, BUT THE MENU... the menu is what keeps me coming back all these years. The thai dumplings, the firecracker chicken, coconut soup, railroad fried rice and pad thai, I could go on for forever. The specials are always changing and recently they added a calamari grapefruit peanut salad that is delicious! If you're looking for a happy hour spot this is also your place. We arrived at 9:45 on a Saturday night and were told that the kitchen closed at 10:30 in a tone that implied we should leave. Should have listened but at the moment I thought we have 45m whats the problem? Service was rushed and rude. There are items on the menu I have enjoyed and there are others that I've never thought about ever again. I appreciate their specials, I love being able to try a variety of foods and still being full. To me, that's the biggest draw of this place. You are able to get a decent amount of food for a suitable price. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip out here to try it if I didn't live close by, but it is a solid choice if you are craving this type of food and not one specific food item. I remember coming in on a hot day and my server/ host/ bartender, moving the position of the fan and air conditioner so that it could cool me down. THATS SPECTACULAR SERVICE. BYOB! There is a $4 corkage fee per bottle/6 pack, which isn't bad - considering I've been to other places that charge $10. You just have to order $15 minimum worth of food per person, which isn't that hard considering the entrees are all $10+. If you don't decide to BYOB, they have pitchers of sangria for $12, I believe - though I'm not sure how good that would be. To start, our table of five ordered some appetizers to share - the duck spring rolls, calamari and the firecrackers. The duck spring rolls were just okay. But that also might be because I'm not a big fan of duck to begin with. It was kind of dry. The calamari was really good - fresh and crispy. The firecrackers (chicken and thai herbs in a jacket of tofu skin) were meh. The tofu skin was chewier than most tofu skins I've eaten before. For my entree, I went with the drunken man noodles. I love this dish but a lot of places make it way too spicy for my taste. So I ordered it "less spicy" and it was perfect for me. The portions are pretty big. We came on NYE at 8, with a reservation and the place wasn't packed. I'm not sure how long the wait normally would be - but I would make a resso just in case. The place is small. I'm a huge fan of NE Thai/Lao cuisine, which typically consumes khao niaw (aka sticky rice), I got super excited and ordered a ton of dishes esp those with sticky rice. breakdown: Win/Pro: fast delivery, well packaged, awesome thai tea, fresh ingredients, no mistakes with preparation requests. Fail/Con: sticky rice- er me gawd, the name is sticky rice! how can you not master the name of your restaurant?! I was expecting perfectly executed sticky rice like at Kin'd in Queens. NOPE. Whether coconut or savory versions the sticky rice was more like overcooked jasmine rice. It might've been glutinous rice, but if so, then either overcooked, or prepared a day ago (results in going from the firm chewy texture to intact mush). Consequently all that sticky rice ended up in the trash. Papaya salad- unfortunately was packed on top of the noodles rather than below it, so as expected, hot temp papaya salad wasn't very good. Besides that, just didn't taste. nvm it might've tasted good if it wasn't warm, but once warm elements like lime juice and tomato take on a different flavor and stands to reason why the dressing seemed off. Khao soi noodles- were ok. the noodles and curry weren't packed separately, so this is a dish best eaten completely when received rather than re-warmed (noodles tend to absorb the soup base and then you have a hunk of fluid logged noodles), the wonton chips were cut pretty fat instead of fine strips so need to break them up a bit. No red onion, chili jam, lime, or cilantro given. It's like having pho without the herbs to put in, just isn't complete if you've had the complete or near complete version. I've some other items I haven't tried yet, but at this point, not expecting much. Boo. What a bummer. Jk The green curry was definitely not traditional--baby corn?? No kapi? What is this? I think I figured it out, either owned by Chinese or Taiwanese or the chef is Chinese-Thai. I can't figure about other reasons for these odd flavors and components other than a Chinese touch to the dishes. After an eye opening visit to the Tenement Museum we stopped here for dinner. First of all loved the name of the place, who doesn't love Sticky Rice? When you enter you are impressed with the ethnic decor and atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the friendliness of the staff. We had a delicious dinner and all my pals enjoyed their dishes- of course I had to try them all. I had the papaya salad- generous portions and so fresh and dressed perfectly. Derek made a great Serrano chili margarita, and Angel was such a thoughtful and lovely server, and helped us find another dish that would keep well to share with our daughter. I spoke to a man on the phone and explained I had an allergy and he was able to make me feel comfortable ordering without worrying about being sick, plus he was very friendly.
