Located at the western end of the New London Town Green, the beautiful surroundings in a quintessential New England village lend a superb ambiance to the place. We also got married twelve years ago at the special events hall on the lower floor of the Inn. And for twelve years, we have been coming here on our anniversary. We know many of the staff, and can attest that the dedication to service and quality is unmatched. This time, as we celebrated our anniversary as usual, making a reservation which was immediately honored when we arrived. To make it even more meaningful, there was a Happy Anniversary placard at our table. That touch of class permeated our evening. Kat was our waitperson. She took care of us superbly. She was there if we needed her. After cocktails, we ordered appetizers, Cheese platter w/salumi, exquisite. Our entree food choices were a superb Pork Tenderloin and a Pan fried cod that left us wanting more. All with a superb Cabernet. Dessert was an Affogato with ice cream. A superb evening, a great anniversary in a great place.

Food is invariably excellent and the staff is well trained and very helpful. As usual, we went in and were seated immediately. I had their Gorgonzola salad with salmon on top and washed it down with their Rags to Riches IPA. Our entire party was quite pleased with the evening. Our only lack of satisfaction was in the lack of the giant pretzels they used to have. No more. Instead, they have locally made ale pretzels which although healthier, are almost impassable with a hard texture that is unpretzel-like. I encourage the Flying Goose to bring back their old-style pretzels or redo the ale pretzel recipe from scratch. Great evening.

We have always had good food here, and last Friday was no exception. The clam strip appetizer,…read morewhich was one of the specials, was fresh, hot, perfectly breaded, and fried just right. We weren't especially hungry, so my husband ordered a cup of the seafood chowder, which was hearty and flavorful, and he loved it. I ordered a half Cobb salad, which was still very generously sized and full of chicken, vegetables, and fresh cut lettuce, not the sad bagged kind. Unfortunately, the service was a very different story. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by frowning faces that made us feel less like paying customers and more like people who had wandered into someone's kitchen uninvited. After being seated, we sat for about 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. When our waitress finally came over, she also seemed unhappy to be there and gave us a halfhearted greeting. When I politely asked how she was, she replied, "This night is almost over." Not exactly the warm welcome you hope for when you're out spending money on dinner. Throughout the meal, she made several comments about the night being almost over and reminded us that we needed to order anything else we wanted before the kitchen closed. It was 8:30 on a Friday night, so this felt more like we were being rushed out than served. The final bill for two gin and tonics, one martini, the clam strip appetizer, a cup of chowder, and a half salad came to about $100 including tip, plus a ridiculous $3 charge for using a credit card. The food was good, but at those prices, the service needs to be much better. Good clam strips can only do so much heavy lifting. We may come back, but next time we'll probably sit at the bar, where it's harder to be ignored and where the bartender has always been friendly. My suggestion to management would be simple: the kitchen is doing its job, but the front of house needs to make guests feel welcome, not like they're an inconvenience.

The tables are superbly clean. The bathrooms are scrupulously spotless. The bar is perfectly curated and organized. A health inspector here would be sorely disappointed. Cleanest venue I've seen in a long time. The service lacked, however. Right after being ushered to our table with a beautiful outside view, the young waitress started yapping interminably on personal issues with a couple she obviously knew two tables away. We were forgotten. Finally after a good 15 minutes, one of us went to the bar to get menus. The bar waitress came out and bought us menus and gave the young lady a look.... Then the taps were out so in an Irish pub, no slow-poured Guinness. I did get it in the bottle and then had to send the waitress to get a cold glass. Lunch came. Delicious Chicken Moher and my other half a delicious Club Sandwich. Yum The lunch was very good. I would have given five stars. But the initial reception with a lackadaisical waitress tells me that although the pub may be outstanding, they need some better training for their wait staff.

Driving in I asked my husband I asked what Kettlehead is known for an he said: Beer. Yet somehow, I can't love Kettlehead. A few things occured that damaged the experience: 1. The waitress spilled a sampler all over my wristlet and cell phone. She was oblivious but she has been spilling it the whole walk to the table! She seamed put out i asked of they had bleach wipes as we were in from out of town and i didnt want mty cell phone smelling like beer all weekend. 2. The waitress stated the coin change machine is wonky and they don't own it. The coin machine worked fine but it was the first game we played, Tokyo Drift, that ate our money. I reported it and seamed like the guy didn't care. He didn't offer me a $1 to make up for it nor did he shut down the machine after my report. I feel like if you have it in your place, you should stand behind it. An issue, it should become yours. 3. The pretzels are terrible. They are like sliced and fried with no flavor. They looked like little hot dogs. We go to a ton of breweries and this is the worst pretzel experience we have ever had. Also, the waitress told us the mustard was the beer cheese and vice versa. My kid was not to happy when she ate mustard! But also, the worst beer cheese we have encountered as well. Her excuse, she has been up since 4am. Well, my husband wasn't wrong. He raved over their beer. Nobody was impressed with their food.
