We always have a great time here and I cannot really put my finger on why...nothing is exceptional but nothing is disappointing. They have an amazing ability to constantly deliver good food, good service and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that keeps us coming back. I enjoy the prime rib that they are happy to super size for an additional fee. It is very tasty. My wife enjoys their steak salad and my son the kid's sirloin with closing hot fudge Sunday. All this with a $20 off coupon that they regularly issue and we are satisfied all around. Yeah, we have driven downtown, valet parked, went to fancier steakhouses, got the stares for bring a six year old, had an admittedly better grade of meat and paid at least twice as much for the experience. yeah they do make a big deal about whether you have a reservation or not. We couldn't have a booth, but 3 or 4 empty booths the entire time we were there made me a tad caustic. The martini my Dad ordered came up way short, before I saw the bartender was born well after Sean Connery ordered same: "shaken, not stirred." The bread served was like donut-sweet, steak was a bit grissely &a bit tough. Potato dish was terrific as others said. Service was uneven. Ok. So first off, the only reason why we went here was because Cheesecake Factory had an hour and a half wait and this place had no wait. Second, the rolls were very delicious. That was where the good stopped. I ordered a 16 oz New York Strip steak with a mashed potato side. I will be completely honest, the mashed potatoes were excellent. The steak however, was one of the worth steaks I've ever had!!! I ordered it medium well, It came out probably rare or medium rare at best. But it was hard to tell because it was basically just a giant piece of fat. I maybe took 4 bites and was disgusted. Not only that, it was $32 for my meal. I had a great experience at this restaurant the food was very tasteful and descent size portions. The prices are fair the one thing that really stood out was the Steak Rolls I highly recommend them. The only complaint I Have is when I ordered my main course I didn't receive my cream of spinach and I clearly told the waitress I wanted that when I placed my order. I am a regular here. Not that it is a spectacular place to visit often but it is convenient for me when I get off from work and meet up with my family. However, the environment is warm and welcoming and the service is better than it used to be. I have tried multiple items on the menu including the coffee cured filet, Panko shrimp, salmon, and the prime burger. I must say that even though this is a steakhouse that I will probably not order another steak from here but overall I can live with the rest. read more

Customer service=Great. No reservation was needed which I thought was unusual but it worked out well. I love the atmosphere. The smooth music at the time there was Jazz playing with low lighting. My sever Charlie was very attractive and took the time to check in on us as often as he could. Our meals were superb my medium rare steak was just right. To preface this review i would like to state that i have eaten at this particular location at least 7 times since having attended towson university. All of those times were mostly satisfactory, but last night was the most discordic and horrible experience i've had with a restaraunt of this price point, full stop. To begin my party of 4 arrive at the restaraunt at around 7 pm we are told that it would be an hour wait minimum, no biggie, my family and i walked to the Brass Tap for some pre dinner drinks and waited patiently for the text from the host station signaling that we had been given a table. Upon arriving back at the restaraunt we were seated and put in appetizers and drink orders. We were all starving, and I had fasted all day to prepare for this meal. Shortly there after salads and dinner orders were placed we were complacent to just be served. This is where everything went to hell. The first plates to arrive were the apps followed by the dinner rolls. Fine small mistake no big deal. We were not even half way through our appetizers by the time the salads came. The table had begun to crowd. Then, still not finished with any of those plates, 2 minutes later our steaks are also dropped still mid bite of our unfinished apps and salads. As the steak arrived the foodrunner attempted to clear our plates that were barely touched. We waited an hour to sit down and eat, and within twenty minutes all of our food was shoved onto the table. Being busy isnt any excuse to rush the customer. The kicker here is that none of our steaks were well cooked or seasoned in any regard with mine being the worst offendor barely scraping by room temp on the outside and cold in the center; 45 dollars for a t-bone that was subpar. This coupled with a lame attempt to save face with free desserts and a glass of wine for my mother. At some point the manager even told us that he cant reprimand his kitchen staff because they will yell at him. I don't know what kind of chain of command takes place here, but why a manager cant tell the chefs and foodrunners to slow it down is beyond me. These are the issues one might expect from your neighborhood Applebees not a restaraunt that averages 30 dollars a head. By far one of the worst restaraunt experiences of my entire life, an utter dissapointment to a restaraunt of this price point. Save your money and go to Blue Stone or Bread and Circuses where service is good and the food isnt haphazardly slapped onto your table with only seating the next guest in mind. read more

Went tonight for a birthday dinner. As someone who cooks for a living and works in a decent restaurant the food was ehhh. We started with the blue-cheese chips, which I had high hopes for since I love good blue cheese but I was pretty disappointed they had a very bland flavor and you really had to try hard to taste the cheese. Oh well onto the soup and I ordered the 12 hour onion soup. What they failed to mention was that the onions had been soaked in salt for 12 hours before making the soup out of them. Also it would have been nice if the soups for the entire table had come out before our meals did. So onto the steaks, I ordered the prime rib which I normally love however this one looked and tasted just like Outback but with a much higher price tag. I did appreciate them getting the temperature of the meat correct though, so they do get some points for that. Dessert came out and it was a triple layer chocolate cake with a ganache filling. Well.....dessert if my thing at the restaurant and this one was dry, not even the ganache saved it from being too dry. I think this cake had been sitting around in the frig a little too long. Not sure why this place only rates 3 stars - I thought it was quite good, although pricey. I absolutely love the atmosphere of this restaurant - the décor, lighting and seating layout meets 100% with my approval. I ordered a steak (big surprise) and it was cooked about as well as you can cook a filet. Medium rare and quite perfect. Family all liked their entrees. I will definitely return, although like another place I love (Miss Shirley's) it is relegated to one of our special places as the check for a family of four can get up there, and we typically like to order the more expensive signature dishes at such establishments. --- UPDATE --- We went to Stoney River 2 more times and both times were DISASTERS. Second trip 3 out of 4 steaks were cooked completely wrong, i.e. my son ordered medium well and the steak came out burned black on top and red and rare in the middle. Tried one time after that and another disaster with 2 out of 4 steaks returned, and one was re-cooked and was just not good. They only cooked one of the steaks correctly. Also noticed on a Friday night at prime time, there were only a smattering of tables in the restaurant. People must clearly be getting the word out. I just can't understand it - if I have a business with the word "steak" in it - then the steaks that I serve had better be cooked RIGHT THE FIRST TIME ... EVERY TIME. I mean that is what the place is all about right? It isn't called Stoney River Legendary Pasta! And it's obvious they sunk a ton of money into the place ... it has a fabulous interior. I could fix their problem in a few days. Their managers must be an incompetent bunch. A recent culinary grad could probably solve their problem. I think they probably need to stop hiring line cooks from Rd Lobster and get the problem fixed before they're forced to close their doors. read more

We typically order take out from this place. Our go to item is the steak roll. This starter item is great for a lunch or an afternoon snack. We are in love with this menu item! Today we tried the lobster bisque which was equally delicious however I noticed a strong alcoholic taste. I've been to this restaurant twice. The first time, I truly enjoyed my experience there. I had the coffee-cured filet mignon and it was one of the best steaks that I have ever had! If that was only time eating here, I would have given Stoney River more stars in my review, but alas I had gone a 2nd time and my experience was not as stellar as the first time. The pros of this place is the food. The rolls are delicious and sweet. I also love the atmosphere. It is dark and there's a fireplace by some of the tables to provide mood lighting that is comfy and romantic. I also loved that there is a rule of no cell phones to be used at the table. Great idea. The cons of this place was the service. Our waiter joked around and was casually friendly. I typically enjoy this as long as the waiter's service and attention to the group does not falter. First of all our waiter checked on us, but at times it was too much. It was hard to get a conversation in without him checking on us and then when we actually did want him to come by ie: to refill glasses, he was no where to be seen. Another con was some glasses fell and broke by our table on the ground and they didn't sweep up after. It wasn't until my friend pointed this out that there was still glass on the ground (rather large pieces too) that they actually came to sweep up the remainder of the glass. Strike 3 was my friend ordered the Crunchy Ahi Tuna roll appetizer. The waiter brought the Asian Ahi Tuna salad instead. When my friend told the waiter, the waiter said, I thought you ordered the salad when it was clear to us and him that he didn't. He ended up apologizing and replacing the dish with the correct one, but instead of saying, I thought you ordered the salad (meanwhile both dishes have completely different names) as a defense, the reaction should have been to apologize and immediately replace with the correct order. Then the waiter brought us dishes for the wrong table twice. The first time it was funny, but when it happened the second time.. it was mediocre. He didn't even apologize, but made a joke over it which I didn't think was all that professional. Overall, I understand that this is service just based on one person so I will leave the opportunity to try this place again one day. read more

Come here all the time most always is oerfect. Tonight I brought mom here for Mother's Day. I got the steak salad which is usually top notch. Tonight they were very busy and my salad came out with my steak that wasn't just cold but refrigerated cold and they tried to tell me it just came off the grill. REALLY I could have done that myself. Only been here for happy hour (otherwise I'd give 5 stars) but this is a great alternative to the other restaurants nearby. The ambiance isn't as bustling and the staff rules. Seriously the most attentive and pleasant staff I've come across in the area. Drinks made to order are some of the best I've had. The bartenders seriously know what they're doing as a craft. The starters I've had were great. They could maybe have a few more starters but all things considered a pleasant experience. read more
