As a few have mentioned before about the hollier than thow brad, their supposed best salesperson, yes best at avoiding your calls, best at not returning your calls, and best at being an absentee stotz of Escondido/John Deere, CA.,,, representative! After purchasing a higher end 5 Series machine with a premium cab and a couple larger implements like a 595 sub-frame back hoe, a 540m front loader coupled with a 85-in global high-volume john deere bucket at just a smidgen more than 110K, one might think, since they normally and mostly sell a wee bit more of your lawn mowers plus attachments that these persons would be a wee bit more beholding to you! As we have experienced stotz of Escondido/John Deere, CA. has become an embarrassment to the industry! Yes the covid experience has dampened a few companies and corps to some degree, but have seen many continue to still function with the same pride and standards that brought to their doorsteps the success they enjoyed from the previous years..... Speaking of residuals, one would think since any store would want the residual in sales for the various implements that would someday ensue; not so with stotz of Escondido/John Deere, CA, am wondering if the stotz family is aware that their Escondido store is being run with ill-regard to their previous customer bases! Not too happy with the service I received at Stotz Escondido. I needed a new deck for my x300. The guy I talked too was not clear on what was included for the new deck. He indicated, and I asked, that is was a "complete" mower. He said it might not include new blades. I ordered it with the realization that there was a $250 restocking fee. Deck arrived within a week, however when loading in my truck, I asked "does it include the blades?". We then found out that this was just the metal deck shroud, not a complete deck. For the price that was charged, I had assumed too, it was a complete deck. So now I needed a bunch of additional parts (one new spindle, for example), in addition to blades. But then JD does something weird with parts too as each part does not include new nuts/bolts to attach the part to the deck. For example, the new spindle does not include the pulley, the (8) hex lock nuts to attach the spindle to the deck, or the 9/16" nut to attach the pulley to the spindle. The new spindle DOES include the the blade attach washer however! (The blade attach nuts are with the new blades.) I guess I would expect a good parts department to know all of this ahead of time and not having me make several trips (it is quite a drive for me). In fact, I don't think I would of bought the new deck at all if I knew it cost as much as it did without all the parts. Right now, I have been trying to reach the parts department to see if the other parts I need are in stock, and after 3 times hanging up on me, the guys said he would call me back -- that was an hour ago... Sigh... Given my experience with other suppliers equipment and devices, I expect more from John Deere, especially the premium price they charge for everything. UPDATE Jul 2 2024: Finally talked with Nick M yesterday afternoon. He was gracious and knowledgable. I had to purchase more parts to complete the re-assembly of my mower deck and he found the right parts and got them out to me quickly. I really appreciate his knowledge, experience, and ability to get me the parts without having to spend the 1 hour driving back to the location. I just wished I talked to Nick first! read more

So Stotz was great for the $130k tractor with implements. But Stotz has become UNresponsible for implements and attachments since. Possibly because my ranch is a great distance and they dont want to travel that far? There are closer John Deere dealers that we can buy from? No regrets on purchasing the tractor from Stotz, and Stotz did sell us a grapple after we bought the tractor. But it seems like we dont get thru to Brad anymore. After the tractor purchase Stotz seldom has time to even return a call to quote an implement, so we have begun buying implements from others including Kern Machinery out of Bakersfield. Photo of a $6000 Frontier RB2409 scraper that I bought earlier this year from Kern Machinery because Stotz would not even return a call nor provide a quote. Wow. Okay, no worries. So if you need a tractor? Definitely see if Stotz will give you a quote. If you need an implement? Stotz may or may not have time for you. Fairly certain that it was Stotz that sold us the Frontier grapple (which is fantastic by the way). Kern Machinery is also a great source for Frontier, we just bought a scraper from Kern (as mentioned). Not sure where my partner bought the Premier attachments from. So still a fan of Stotz when they have time for us. Delighted that we went with John Deere, delighted with our Frontier attachments, this tractor is a workhorse, the Frontier and Premier attachments are quite excellent. No regrets at all. In fact: one thing that I like to remind others is that I would have gone with a 4 series Deere 4066R with a cab because the 5 series seemed like overkill for my small ranch. SO GLAD that my partner and Stotz talked me into the 5 series. There are so many tasks that a big tractor can handle that a small one cannot. DO NOT cheap out on your tools. Get bigger than you think that you will need. Buy EVERY single option. See that RB2409? Has all 3 hydraulic circuits. Why? That adds a LOT of cost vs manual. Because it is more precise than a few manual stops, we can hit any angle in the range. It is less work. Let the tool work for you, DO NOT work for the tool. Notice that we bought the end caps and shoes? Get EVERY accessory and option when you buy the tool. Why? When the tool is discontinued: you wont be able to buy those parts!!!!! Do not be pennywise, pound-foolish. We have an old Dayton ShopVac that the attachments are all cracked and leaking. The new Dayton attachments do not work. A wonderful old tool is now junk because I lacked the foresight to properly stock up when I bought it. Do not make the mistakes that I have and cheap out on your tools. So we bought a new shop vac and spent over $600 because we bought spares of every single little part that is available including filters and attachments. That will be our last shop vac. Do not spend $110k on a tractor and cheap out on the options. Get 3 hydraulic circuits front and 3 rear. Get the backhoe, loader, cab and all other options. Same thing with implements. If you get a scraper: get the shoes and end caps. Dont spend $6k on a scraper and nickle and dime the accessories by omitting them. Our end caps are off of the scraper in the garage right now. But we HAVE THEM if we need them (and we DID use the end caps for ground leveling). Both Kern and Stotz will order all of the available accessories. No matter where you buy your toys, I mean tools: PLEASE get everything that goes with it? DO NOT end up like me with a fantastic tool that you have no attachments for when the only attachment cracks or breaks. Be like the new me that learned from that mistake and gets everything fully loaded and with spares. Stotz is a very good company. Glad that I did business with them. Surprised and disappointed that they ceased doing business with me, but that is okay, I have choices and other suppliers who are happy to take my money. read more

BEWARE! Do not use this company to service your equipment! We bought a small lawn tractor from them. We paid them to service it this time last year! About $800 to do a full work up on it. I only use this tractor during the winter/spring for my volunteer grass/weeds. The service department overfilled the oil and caused the engine to blow! After less then 5 hours of use from the service I paid them to do. And they will not help in any way!!! Instead they want me to pay for a new motor, due to their incompetence! DON'T DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!! We called this company to fix our tractor and was quoted $360.00. When the repair guy got here he spent 10 or 15 minutes here. I stood there and watched him work, he took a can of carb cleaner stuck it in the side hole and the bottom. He showed me to do this just in case we have problems again. I told the guy what we were quoted and he said " They thougt we needed to rebuild the carburetor that his boss would adjust the price." "Simple easy fix." Today we got a bill $360.17 saying we approved the amount! They're trying to bill us the original amount saying that they wouldn't charge more if the tractor needed more work! I had an interesting experience with them as I had ordered a John Deere mower via Home Depot. Lots of mis-communication with HD on finding who actually had the mower, when exactly it was to be delivered, etc. Finally got Stotz's number and gave them a call. They explained the process with Home Depot and how they are the middle men in the process and then will service it if it ever needs anything. Normally via HD, Stotz would of delivered the mower to me and explained how it operates. I chose to drive down and pick it up myself as the purchase had already been delayed. The picking up went well, except the mower was never labeled for me to pick it up, so we had to walk the yard to find it and match up the serial number. Not a huge deal, but the difference between a 4 and 5 star. The salesman helped with me with the mower, offered to help me load it up and gave me some tips that I wasn't aware of. If anything does come up with the mower, I'll feel confident to take it down there for service. Cheers! read more

I called the service manager and told him that I wanted a full service on my tractor, all fluids and filters, and all zerk fittings to be greased. The day it was ready I asked the service manager to walk back to the shop and confirm that everything written in the work order was in fact done. He did and came back and looked me straight in the face and confirmed. I went home and got my trailer, returned to Stotz and loaded up the tractor. I noticed some spider webs on zerk fittings and asked them how they managed to grease fittings without disturbing dirt and spider webs. Further inspection (with the service manager and a mechanic present) revealed that nothing had been greased. So we checked the oil and it was a quart low. I made them correct everything, but they have lost my trust. I was pretty angry, so they will probably never want to see me again either. The city of San Marcos told me that they no longer use Stotz, they go to Powerland in Valley Center. read more

Came in today looking for service on my LA115 lawn tractor. Borg behind the counter was courteous and helpful. My tractor is dead and missing it's ignition key. Jorge had my key in stock, and we also discussed a potential battery replacement as well. About $75 for the tractor battery , and he let me know to call in advance if I purchased one so they could charge it up for me. Very nice. There was another gentleman who helped me with my service questions as well, and he and I discussed fuel treatments and storage. Also found out about a possible carburetor rebuild. If you own a John Deere product this is the place to come in San Diego. Take a walk outside and you will get an excellent view of the JD product line. Inside the store is a great selection of landscape products, including Stijl chain saws and power tools. A cool collection of JD tin signs as well. read more

My husband walked into Stotz and was greeted by Mike Vick. Bob told him what he was looking for in a tractor and Mike showed him the appropriate machine, had him test drive it, showed him all the features and gave him a rock bottom/best he could give quote. Bob told Mike he was going to look at the Kubota and Mike pointed out a few things to compare on the Kubota. Bob went over to the Kubota place, walked around and finally had a sales guy come over and gave him a fast run over of the machine and a quote quite a bit higher than he got from Stotz. Guy said this was as good as it gets and Bob went right back to Mike and bought the JD. Mike delivered it and made sure everything was right and gave Bob further pointers on operation. Over the past month I spent about $4000 dollars at this store amid the Covid pandemic. Unfortunately I can't give them anything higher than the lowest rating and would not recommend Stotz Escondido to anybody. I already have a list of another $2000 of equipment I need and will not be returning to this store. Beware of the clowns in the parts department. Fact: they will sell you accessories that are not compatible with your equipment. Then they will be passively rude about it. They neither provide parts knowledge, competitive pricing or in-stock inventory (in my experience there isn't anything they didn't have to order). All of this combined with terrible disrespect for their customers (Jorge, Hector and Nick this is about you) makes you question why you should ever go back to this parts counter. To the parts guys I would remind them to never bite the hand that feeds them. The sales department is not much better. Stay away from Brad in sales. He has an attitude like he is too good for his job and that he is smarter than every customer. Sadly for him he is neither. I would like to give Mike in sales 5 stars but I can't for two reasons. First, at one point he said I should go purchase my riding mower from Lowe's or Home Depot and turned his back to me. I don't think the STOTZ CEO would like his employees ever saying such things. Second, I believe he charged me a fee for financing that he shouldn't have. It was just under $30 so I decided to pay it to avoid delays since my purchase was a gift. However, I feel I have the evidence to demonstrate that charge was not mandatory for the customer from John Deere Financial. This was not a mistake since I made Mike aware of this and this is when he wanted to to walk away from the sale. I have limited interaction with Corey, the store general manager, but he seems to be too passive and doesn't seem engaged with the business. I hope he doesn't allow this circus show to continue in the store. 5 stars for Emilio that delivered and explained the riding mower, great job. And 5 stars to Max in parts who appears to be a polite customer oriented employee. read more

I recently purchased a new 2038r, along with a box scraper, arenavator, and backhoe at the Escondido location. My sales rep was "Andy" and I could not have been more pleased with his assistance throughout the entire process. I also want to throw a shout out to "Nick" in service who assisted with the backhoe orientation. Although the wait for this purchase was long (supply chain issues), I was always kept in the loop with updated delivery times. I recently placed an order from the John Deere online store. At check out I was asked to select my "local dealer". I went out of my way to make sure I did NOT select you Stotz Escondido. You don't deserve my or anybody's business, this place is so bad. To the general manager, you should contact me and soon. I have an email where your sales person sent me John Deere financial documents marked confidential in an effort to make a bogus charge appear mandatory while I purchased several thousand dollars at your store earlier this year. I don't think JDF would approve of such disregard for their confidential forms. This was done to hustle me into paying a $30 charge to apply for promotional financing. I want my $30 back. Obviously I got the 0% financing because I have great credit but that's besides the point. It's in your best interest to not ignore this. It's not going to go away. After work, on his way home he personally brought the axle to me ready to install. (only 2 hours after my call ) . He enabled me to get my trailer back on the road day before Thanksgiving. Went in on a Saturday a few months back to get a new hedge trimmer as I was tired of all the crappy ones I had tried and broke before. I knew that Stotz was a Stihl distributor, and since I had heard nothing but good things about Stihl I stopped in. The service was great and I walked out with a new trimmer, which I promptly went home and did three days worth of work in half a day. This weekend I need to do a lot of tree trimming and my old hand held Corona saw has seen better days, so I thought that I would try Stotz again. Three guys on the counter and a few more in offices-pretty sure I met them all! Great group of guys, helpful, easy going and knowledgable. Take your lawnmower/tractor here if you want to get HOSED. Know those car repair shops they sometimes do exposes on? Well, they need to do one on this place. I wish I wasn't in such a rush, and I need to remember to check Yelp first. We took our John Deere in for service. We had just replaced the blades ourself and realized the problem was something else. These folks not only told us we needed new blades, but almost everything else! We told them no thanks, and only authorized a clutch repair. It was nearly $500.00! Hell, we only paid about $1200.00 for it. Can't imagine what the repairs would have cost had they been allowed to fix the laundry list of repairs they wanted to do. When I first walked in, there was one guy sitting around eating, another guy walking around smiling, and another one working. When I came back to pick up the lawnmower, same guy was eating again, and the other two were working on a boat. Unless your equipment is under warranty, DON'T COME HERE!!! read more

The prices at Stotz run about 50% higher than anywhere else. Our high school coach in Chula Vista, California bought the John Deere tri plex mower from the company. I heard the coach asked for a quote on sharpening the blades. They quoted him close to $600. The coach sent Stotz a school purchase order. The coach asked the employee at Stotz if they received it, the guy said yes, the coach asked them when can they pick it up, the guy said it will cost u $500 to pick it up and deliver it. Wow $1,100.00 to sharpen the blades. The coach is looking for another company to sharpen the baseball programs mower. The kids fundraise to pay for things like this. I'm disappointed in Stotz for charging a high school baseball program $500 to pick up and deliver. Wow what a rip off. read more

l would like to thank both the staff of the service and parts departments of Stotz, but in particular Bill in the mobile support/service team. We had a L/G tractor that sat for about a year and had a ton of problems getting er back up an running. He has been out to our farm to assist with a couple of JD 345 repairs and offered both invaluable assistance but also advice on how to maintain our lawn/garden tractor. He's patient, friendly and has excellent customer service skills - something not often found in folks who do home repair jobs. Better still, every time we've had any interaction, he has outstanding before job communication (before arriving onsite) as well as outstanding follow up skills. Tyler and the Stotz team earned our business! We were buying a property that required a tractor, so I began to shop around. Growing up in Iowa, my family always had John Deere's. I certainly wanted one, but was worried that my budget wouldn't accommodate a Deere. I called competing brands, stopped by other dealerships, and finally stopped by and talked to Tyler at Stotz. Whereas other dealers seemed to make me want to work to research and buy, Tyler at John Deere was readily available, knowledgeable, and very responsive to any and all questions and follow-on inquires. To my surprise, Tyler came out of the gate more aggressive on price than any other brand. So much so, that in addition to the 3025e tractor I bought (plenty of power, by the way), I was able to add on a Gator to my purchase. The transaction was quick and hassle-free.
