The customer service was great. There were three servers who was able to accommodate a large party. The servers were very attentive and professional. This review has nothing to do with the three women that served our party. Now onto the food. I ordered the pork chop and eggs as I was craving meat. It came with a side of Obrien potatoes and sourdough bread. The meat came with gravy which was not indicated on the menu, the meat was flavorless, and the potatoes were still frozen and not cooked all the way through. I did not send my food back because I am not one to complain. I just made a mental note to not return. STOX MUST BE DOING GREAT SINCE IT DOESN'T CARE IF IT INSULTS AND LOSES ITS CUSTOMERS Long time customer. 20+ years. Black haired Filipino woman who's usually nice, today was cross, rude and arrogant. I walk in and stand there for a few moments expecting to be, as has been Stox' employees' habit for years, asked if I want to place a take out order. Today she was loudly conversing with a coworker with a blonde wig, pretending I'm not there, finally she points to the interior of the restaurant, and says, "Go ahead." I replied, "Go ahead what?" "Go sit down, you can't sit up here, there's no chair" ​she said sarcastically condescendingly as she pointed behind me in the bench area: she knows I have been a customer for years, so she was obviously being rude and obnoxious. She then said, "Oh, you want to order to go, but still go sit there!" I said, "I was going to, but forget it." She loudly, unprofessionally and childishly jeered and made fun of me as I left. Stox seems to be going down the drain. The last time I was here I asked for my hamburger to be well done and it was cooked medium. Stox is also heavily discouraging credit card use and wants everything paid for in cash and has signs that say so. One loudmouth crap employee can wreck years of trust and good memories at a restaurant. So I highly discourage anyone from going into Stox. If I'm treated like this after nearly 25 years of patronage how awful will she treat newcomers? read more

I really like coming here until today. The service is superb. Lupe and Armando are great servers. I often sat at the counter watching the cooks. I knew you had a big group today inside the bar because I saw all those tickets line up. I saw the cook put my bread in the toaster and I smelled the burnt toasts. I have the most amazing neighbors, I'm truly blessed. Today they offered to share a pie with me from STOX and it was absolute heaven. It was a strawberry cream cheese pie. Hopefully I got the name of it right? The inside had a cream cheese custard without the usual thickness, & density that most cream cheese desserts have. If you want to opt for something lighter, while longing for that cream cheese flavor; this is a great alternative. It was topped with chunky strawberries and a fresh whipped cream. From start to finish of my visit, I was pleasantly surprised. I came in on a night in which I thought all places had "Taco Tuesday" but not here. Here's the kicker... Angela my server was nice enough to offer a 3-taco plate although it wasn't offered on menu. Three carne asada tacos w the absolute freshest guacamole and heartiest portion of beef (Medium rare). My first time coming here I ordered the bacon fried rice just to try something different. It was trash. Seems like they used bacon bits and no flavor. Months later I decided to give them a second chance since they were known for their breakfast.....Well they failed again. My second visit I sent back an order. Do not eat here the food is extremely bland and expensive. The serving size is like a kids meal. I ordered the half stack pancakes bacon and eggs. The syrup was watered down and the bacon was burnt. Melted cheese plus sweet mustard. My companions got the half daily sandwich (pulled pork dip) with rice and chicken soup in a cup and the Stox hamburger special. All sandwiches were well made. Very personable waitress Maria, she can often to check on drinks and refills for coffee ( I had two cups late afternoon!). Quite empty dining room this afternoon. The place closes by 8 pm. There is a connecting bar that stays open later and also serves the entire menu if you're looking for food. I took a peek in the bar and there was a sizable crowd at just a little past 4pm! Updated review was disappointed that you have to sit in the bar to get an alcohol beverage and false advertisement on Banner says happy hour but when I brought it to the waitress attention, she said yeah it's up there but we don't do that special anymore so they're advertising something and once they get you in the door, they don't honor it. She said you can speak to the manager, but they're having happy hour anymore, but it's been up there for months, the sign, and have yet to take it down. I feel like that's really sad to have you sit down moved twice locations and then not honor happy hour when there's a sign above outside advertised for over several months and is still there. I am very sad because this was my go to spot but since this experience, I have yet to return. Also, it says breakfast all day, but if you go in the afternoon, their breakfast was not good. Well, I had a good experience today. My wife and I stopped in for our first time at this restaurant seeing the outside sign. We're on the way to our favorite restaurant that we normally go to glad we stopped. We had a great experience Armando who served our table and us was very, very nice and I ordered. Chili Verde and eggs and beans oh that chili Verde was delicious. My wife had the pork tenderloin I tasted it. I wanted to eat it all up. My love of mid century coffee shops is endless and I had passed by this place months ago. First, there is a ton of free parking. A luxury in some areas. We went in for some breakfast for dinner. I had the breakfast panini and my husband had the two eggs breakfast. Both meals were solid, good portions and very attentive service. I had heard about their pies and we took Boysenberry home. They do not sell slice, but mini pies, among other things. THIS PIE. This crust was so crisp, flakey and tasty. The filling was perfect, not overly sweet or gooey. Fun nostalgic diner for the whole family. We went to Stox on St. Patrick's Day, and the crowd wasn't too bad. Lots of customers were at the bar for happy hour. Our waitress was very attentive and knew the menu. My son ordered the pork chop, which took a little extra time to cook, but it was well worth the wait. He ate everything on his plate. I had the BLT with potato salad and it was good also. I always pass by this restaurant whenever I'm on my way to Downey and I finally got the opportunity to check this place out. Before I came here, I already knew that their menu was pretty extensive, containing breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. I came here one morning and when I walked in, one of the things that I noticed was their pastries (I especially noticed their pecan pies). My waiter seated me and he was very polite, telling me some of his suggestions since I was having trouble deciding what to get. After taking some time, I decided to get the Big Sourdough Burger. One of the first things I noticed was the bread being really soft. As I was eating the burger, it tasted okay, but a big problem that I had with it was it didn't have much flavor in the meat. Kind of the same deal with the fries, just not too much flavor. That was pretty disappointing but fortunately, that won't stop me from coming back in the future. I've seen some positive reviews about their eggs and I'm still eager to try one of their mini pecan pies or perhaps some of their other baked goods. We go for breakfast occasionally. Food is excellent, not sure worth the recent price increase, extra $1 for cheese in your omelet, most places just include it. Endless coffee refill is good. My wife and I and her dad came to Stox Restaurant Bakery & Bar to try out the food at this 60 plus year old restaurant. The restaurant is just across the street from Kaiser hospital. I was very curious about Stox restaurant then I did my research on my Yelp and look at the reviews and what kind of food they service at the restaurant. We step in it feels like a family restaurant and also a classic family restaurant look from the past but looks nice. We got seated right away then the hostess hand us the menu,they serve breakfast all day and also they have specials. We were looking at the menu to see what to order my wife order the chorizo plate and also she order a cup of prime rib chili. My father order a half sandwich and soup he got a half French dip sandwich and a cup chicken soup. I got the large pork chop plate with a baked potato. Then the waitress brought the food it looks so good especially my large pork chop. I took a bite of my large pork chop it tasted very good grill perfect and cover with gravy was incredible good so much flavors in the pork chop and the gravy comes with dice carrots and baked potato and freshly baked bread. My wife enjoy her chorizo plate and her dad enjoy his meal. We need to come back to Stox. read more
