FLAVOR (3/5): Bread is addicting but I feel a certain type of way for paying for bread when it feels like it should be the start of a meal at a place. But for upscale it was quality bread. The flat bread was decent but not memorable per say. The lumpia might have been my favorite. Everything else wasn't anything to write home about. INSTAGRAM WORTHY (4/5): The space inside is vibey and cute! The presentation for the dishes were simple but cute. SERVICE (5/5): Servers were very attentive, packed our leftovers for us and checked on us constantly! TAKEAWAYS: Portion size here is pretty small even for the price point you're paying. Street parking is probably your best option, right across the street from city hall. Glad we tried it but most likely wouldn't be dying to come back.

Came here for happy hour after work and it was such a vibe! The inside is super spacious and has an upscale feel. Our servers were super attentive and food/drinks came out pretty quick. Their HH deals are actually pretty good! $1 oysters and half off select drinks and food. We got the oysters, burger, and tried a bunch of different drinks. I def will be returning for happy hour and want to come back for their dinner menu to try the steak tartare.

We tried this excellent new addition to downtown recently. We did the lounge menu as had theatre tickets so no time for the tasting menu. That said, all the food was fabulous so we definitely want to come back to try the tasting menu. The ambiance is upscale and chic. The cocktails deserve a shout out and the wine list is notably expansive. Love this addition to the downtown scene!

Rollati was one of my favorite restaurants in Downtown San Jose. It's flagship corner spot anchored the neighborhood, sitting under the MIRO towers across from the iconic San Jose City Hall. While I was sad to see it go, I immediately lit up when I found out the proprietors behind it's replacement are the geniuses behind Eos & Nyx, Alter Ego, Still OG, Paper Plane, and Miniboss. Needless to say expectations were very high for Strata, especially since they are taking a huge risk on the menu. It's the first restaurant in San Jose to open with a Michelin-style fixed price tasting menu. Some like ADEGA have evolved into this type of experience, but Strata is all-in from day one. In the elegant dining room, that is the only option. Fortunately, it's one of the most affordable ones out there at $75 for 5 courses (with some optional supplements). You can also sit at the bar or lounge and order a-la-carte off a more casual menu. In the dining room you can add extra courses from the a-la-carte menu as well (which we did because we were really hungry). The first course was a tuna tostada with salsa macha chorizo, avocado, and cilantro and an al pastor torta with pineapple salsa. They were both delicious and felt like an upscale nod to San Jose's street food scene. Second was our favorite dish of the night. A rockfish crudo in one of the most unique plates I have ever seen. It featured white soy aquachile, serranos, cilantro, and crispy rice. You can also add caviar for an extra $25. I was told it was 1oz, but this is perhaps the one mistake they made on opening day because it was maybe 1/5 that at best. That sauce was so good that we spooned up ever last bit. Third up was a ricotta stuffed tortellini (optional shaved truffle for $15) and chicken friend morrels (extra $15). The morrels were amazing. One of the best mushrooms I have ever had. I should also mention that this restaurant group is know for amazing craft cocktails. I got a Bollywood Old Fashioned with chikoo, popcorn (?), and aromatic bitters. It did not disappoint. The 4th course was the main. We had the rockfish and the chicken roulade. Both were amazing, I'd get either again. The meat and veggies were perfectly seasoned and every sauce really stood out. There was a 3rd option we didn't try which was a Prime NY steak with garlic chive for an extra $25. We also added the burger from the lounge--it was super tasty and guaranteed we'd leave stuffed since we skipped lunch. Last but definitely not least were the desserts. There was a choice of a soft serve passionfruit ice cream with toasted coconut and brown butter crumble or a chocolate hazelnut semifreddo with candied hazelnut and cherries. We got once of each and enjoyed both but the chocolate hazelnut was the standout option. I couldn't leave without trying one more cocktail so I also got a "Tan Lines & Deadlines" for dessert. This was their take on an espresso martini with vodka, cold brew, coconut, turbinado, mole bitters, cinnamon, and salt. Easily one of the best dessert drinks I've had anywhere. To wrap up, this is the new king of date night in San Jose and the benchmark for Downtown San Jose fine dining. Their menu will change every 6-8 weeks, focusing on fresh local ingredients that are in season. It's pricey but overall a good value for the quality of food, service, and ambiance you get. My tip would be to avoid the upcharges and instead add a 6th or 7th course from the bar/lounge menu to try as many different dishes as possible. I hope I'll get try out a few of the different menus this year. I'm very happy to see Strata Downtown and wish them much success.

Adorable restaurant and had a nice open feeling. We came for dinner and loved all of the decor that felt upscale. I ordered a Float your Boat Cocktail that had rum, coconut orgeat, passion fruit, lime, and jasmine. It was such a good drink with tons of flavor but a decent amount of alcohol! We decided to share some dishes off the la carte menu with small plates. We tried the Steak Tartare w/ filet mignon, aji amarillo aioli, shallot, chive, potato pavé, shiso, and radish. It was amazing and had tons of flavor with decent portion size. We also tried the Ricotta Stuffed Tortellini w/ white verjus beurre monte, legumes, spinach, parmesan. The housemade pasta had a nice flavor swimming in a sauce made with butter and juice. But the portion was so small it was really just for one person. The last dish was the Strata Flatbread which was just so good! Doughy bread with a ton of flavor and big portions for two. Its a little pricy and they do a Prix Menu as well. Service was good and the server was quick with our food. Tons of parking down the street. They do have a happy hour that I would love to check out versus dinner food. Great to go for a date night or special occasion.

I'm excited to go back. A friend and I went last night on another friends recommendation. The ambience was great and the food was delish. I really enjoyed the courses on the prix fixe I picked the chicken and it was good. I had the hazelnut chocolate dessert and didn't share . The staff was attentive and the lounge was really cute. I can't wait to try the à la carte next and would come back again for sure. TIP: The lot next door is open to public after 6pm. The lot diagonally across is more flexible for public parking.

My fiancé and I came here for our anniversary and honestly had the best time! It was our first time doing a set 5-course meal and every single dish was so well thought out, we savored every bite. The food was delicious and the service was top tier. Our server Drea really made the night special, she was super knowledgeable, sweet, and went above and beyond for us. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend Strata for any special occasion!

Went to strata for the first time this past weekend. The drinks were amazing! Ambience was a vibe. It felt dark and each table felt secluded even though they weren't too far from each other. It was a busy night, but it didn't feel too crowded. Food was amazing as well. Loved the tuna, truffle pizza, I'm not very big on octopus but i think that was our tables favorite. Also the waiters knew their drinks so it definitely helped when we asked for advice on which to choose.

We love all of M.O. Hospitality's spots in San Jose (Eos & Nyx, Alter Ego, etc ) so were excited to try the newest addition. It did not disappoint! The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing and you would have thought they'd been open for years. Our group of four tried a number of drinks from the cocktail menu with peas & thank you being the most interesting and therefore our favorite. We're spoiled by the whiskey list at Paper Plane so would like a few more interesting bottles here, but they definitely have a solid selection. We love that Strata is offering a tasting menu at such a relatively reasonable price point. The little first bites (tuna tostada and al pastor torta) were so flavorful and some of the favorites of the whole table. The rest of the meal continued with solid dishes including the tortellini and rockfish which were my highlights. We heard the menu will be changing often which we're super excited about. While the meal was great, with other options out there, we probably wouldn't return immediately to have the exact same meal, but we'll definitely be back as soon as they switch up the menu to try what else they come up with. We hope they keep the cocktail menu fresh too! Thankful to have this new option downtown!

Had an exceptional experience at Strāta in downtown San Jose! The food was creative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. You can tell a lot of thought and intention goes into each dish, and the rotating menu keeps things interesting. The cocktails were excellent as well, and the owners and staff did a great job explaining the menu and making us feel welcome. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between upscale and comfortable, making it a great spot for a date night, celebration, or just a fun dinner out. Looking forward to coming back very soon!

Fancy place without the fancy price ! Great food and service here . Perfect spot for celebrations or impress your significant other on a date night . Love the rock fish crudo and cocktails.

We went here last week for girls night and we will definitely be back. They have the dining room that is only available if you are getting the preset menu but we chose to sit in the lounge area so we could order a la carte. our favorite thing was the crab lumpia and the chocolate semifreddo dessert. I also really enjoyed my drink- a spritz called "it's Britney, spritz!". Shoutout to our server Jackie, she was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. We also had the owner come out and talk to us which was super fun! He told us how the plates from the tasting menu are made by a local artist! Overall loved this place -cute for drinks w the girls or an intimate date night.

Eos & Nyx is a vibrant dining destination with outdoor patio and loft style indoor dining room and open bar and kitchen. The menu includes locally sourced produce and seafood, mixed with Mediterranean cooking techniques. Eos & Nyx has also a fascinating cocktail menu, with brunch focused cocktails. Trix Aren't For Kids $18 Two husbands ordered the brunch cocktail, made with gin, trix, rice milk, ginger, passionfruit, cream, lemon, and egg white. A bit too sweet. Strawberry Spumoni $17 I got the strawberry brunch cocktail with bitter aperitivo, strawberry, fluffy grapefruit, and tonic. Cute but not memorable. Filipino Grand Slam $24 We ordered the amazing grand slam with Filipino longanisa, on the side there was garlic rice, fried eggs, and decorated with spiced vinegar. Pipikaula Ribs $32 The other main course we got the smoked pipikaula ribs, with kimchi fried rice, sunny eggs, and sprinkled scallion on the top. Chilaquiles $29 Another main course we had was the confit duck leg, mole rojo on the side. And on top there were feta and cilantro sauce dressing and a sunny side up egg on top. Caesar with trout $26 We also got a Caesar salad made with bibb & gem, Parmigiano Reggiano, herbed crouton, and boquerones. There was an option to include chicken or trout as the protein. We chose the trout and it was great with crispy skin and tender meat.

Hey there party People…read more Decided to venture into Willow Glen today on the hunt for something new to try. Boy howdy did we hit the Mother Load with "The Table". We hit the Brunch hour and the place was rocking. We were able to sit right down amazingly. There is a fabulous patio to people watch and enjoy the California weather. Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. Loved the potato roll they used all round a killer sandwich. Going a little outside the box we tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The pineapple slaw with this amazing peppery chutney type sauce played so well with the acid of the pineapple. Another must have sandwich. I ask you how can you go to a new restaurant and not have some dessert. With everything else being so good our expectations were pretty high and we were not disappointed. The Giant Profiterole is exactly that GIANT and stuffed with White Chocolate Gelato and Hot Chocolate Sauce that you can drizzle over the top. To fricken die for good. If you are in Willow Glen and you don't stop here you are missing out on something wonderful. Be kind to one another

When we were seated, we were given a list of items that were not available. I originally wanted to try the pancakes but ended up ordering the chicken sandwich instead. This was genuinely one of the worst chicken sandwiches I have ever had. It was extremely gristly, fatty, and made with dark meat, which felt like an odd choice for a chicken sandwich. I'm not sure why this cut of chicken was used. The fries were alright, but they did not come with the sandwich and cost an additional $5. Our total came to almost $90 for three entrees with no beverages. I was especially frustrated because my sandwich was inedible. For the price and quality, I will not be returning and would not recommend this place.

ARE WE IN SILICON VALLEY? 4.5…read more One might never know this restaurant exists, tucked away near a Google business park just off Highway 101. You could stumble upon it through Yelp (as we did), discover it while staying at the adjacent Treehouse Hotel, or simply hear about it through word of mouth. The parking situation is an interesting one. After turning into the driveway from Mathilda Avenue, you have two options: turn right for valet parking or left into the Google parking lot. There are plenty of spaces available, though parking there is technically at your own risk. The restaurant told us they had not heard of anyone being ticketed or towed. We first dined here shortly after it opened in 2025 and were immediately impressed by the beautiful grounds. The hotel's eco-conscious gift shop, housed in a glass greenhouse and featuring a colorful vintage VW Bug, is a charming touch. The short walk to the restaurant feels especially relaxing on a warm, sunny day. This has become one of our favorite places to bring friends or host girls' lunches. With three distinct seating options: the dining room, bar, and patio, there's an atmosphere to suit just about any occasion, whether you're dining as a couple or gathering with a larger group. I would recommend visiting during lunch or dinner service and skipping the in-between hours. During that time, only the bar area is open and the menu is more limited. To fully experience what Valley Goat has to offer, lunch or dinner is the way to go. Despite the name, the only goat dish on the menu at the time of this review is the Goat Empanadas. My friend was initially hesitant to order them, but David, our wonderful server, and I encouraged her to give them a try. She was glad she did. There was no gamey flavor whatsoever; the meat tasted more like beef, and the accompanying sauce was excellent. Over several visits, we've enjoyed everything we've ordered and are delighted to have a restaurant of this caliber in our Bay Area backyard. Chef and co-owner Stephanie Izard, winner of Season 4 of Top Chef and an Iron Chef title, owns a total of nine restaurants, primarily in the Chicago area, along with locations in Los Angeles and one at Orlando International Airport. Since we enjoy traveling for great food, we'll definitely be adding some of her other restaurants to our list.

We ordered a few items to share and each were spectacular. The shrimp salad in particular contained perfectly cooked shrimp (although there weren't many) tossed in the right amount of sauce. The grilled asparagus were delightfully sweet and smokey. The smoked salmon dip paired with pickles were just the right amount of savory, spicy, and sour. Ambience: very greenhouse vibes. The interior had many live walls (walls filled with viney plants), and ceiling decor of plants as well. Along the restaurant was a long line of monsteras, scattered with fiddle leaf plants throughout. Love how "fresh" it made the restaurant feel. Given their different menus I different times, would definitely try to come back and try their dinner menu. Price: food arrives in small plates (for sharing). A bit on the expensive side for the small plates. However, the taste of each dish is exceptional.

We dined at Lira on November 14th. The Service (or Lack Thereof): The Menu Shortage: We arrived for our 6:45 PM reservation only to be told by the manager that they didn't have enough menus. We were told they'd bring them "later." Ignored for 35+ Minutes: We sat with nothing but water for over half an hour. To make matters worse, a table of six was seated after us and received their full entrees while we were completely ignored. The Drink Mess: After 40 minutes, the server told me they were out of ingredients for my drink. When I picked a second option, she tried to insist I wanted a drink with celery (my most despised vegetable). We thankfully stopped her before it was made, but the incompetence was staggering. The Food Fiasco: An hour into our reservation, someone dropped off a scallop dish. A while later, a server asked if I'd "received the scallops yet," and I realized the plate I was eating wasn't even intended for our table. We were so starving that my husband and I just shared them. Once we finished, the server finally asked my husband if he "still wanted his meal or if he wanted to cancel it." I finally lost my cool - of course he still wanted his dinner! The Aftermath: My husband didn't realize that my friends had actually made a separate reservation to take me back to this same spot the following night for a second birthday celebration. After this performance, there was no way I was going to step foot in this building again or give them another cent of our money. I texted my friends from the table to cancel those reservations and book elsewhere. With service this disorganized and insulting, this restaurant won't be in business long. Super disappointing. Don't waste your special occasions here. *Edit - it looks like Lira has closed. With the service we experienced, I am not surprised in the slightest. I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat. But there's a handful of reviews noting frustrating delays... and that needs to be worked on.
