We came to eat here after walking our dog at a nearby park. When we arrived we were kindly greeted by Ms. Debra the owner, which was very nice. The salad bar was good and it contained several toppings to choose from. Went here to get pizza and wings yesterday since I have never been here at all even though I am always in the area. The pizza was decent and it was lacking crust. The wings however were good. I can tell you as someone who's been at dozens of Midwestern pizza parlors, this place is clean and well taken care of. What this place isn't is some bougie wood-fired pizza place. You get pizza, wings, a salad bar and thats pretty much it. This place is a Pizza Hut from 1989, and I'm here to say I'm 100% all about it. We get the garlic Parmesan twists and honestly i could eat those alone as my meal. The inside reminds me of a mom and pop pizza parlor. It's nothing fancy but it's great for large groups. There was a discrepancy in pricing (because her worker gave us the wrong price over the phone) and the owner was so rude about it. I totally would've understood had the owner taken the time to explain what happened but instead she was rude and told us we could leave if we didn't like it. So we did. I came here on a Tuesday night at 7 PM for a pizza party. A pizza-lover myself, I was looking forward to pigging out on pizza at a restaurant next to the Grocery Outlet on the southeast corner of Spring and Palo Verde. I guess my expectations were too high that by the end of the night, I was nowhere close to impressed. Our party was in a long, narrow private room to the right of the entrance. The room was brightly lit and had a good amount of sports decor hanging from the walls. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't supplement our party as well as it could have. The salad bar in the back of the restaurant was pretty miniscule in size. You were given a pretty small oval green plate, and there weren't that many salad fixings to choose from. The sneeze guard hanging above the salad bar was constantly swinging like a pendulum, which startled me several times as I was getting my small plate of salad. I almost thought the sneeze guard would decapitate me! The salad was just mediocre...nothing out of the ordinary. I might sound crazy, but I actually liked the appetizers better than the pizza! We had two kinds of groovy twists: one cheesy garlic, the other jalapeño. Pretty good, but not as good and flavorful as others that I've had in the past. I also had a habanero wing, which was supposed to be hot, but it wasn't anywhere close to the spiciness I was expecting. Pizza was in the range of subpar to average. I had slices of the Meat-e-or and the Classic Veggie Master Pizza. The first slice of each was decent, but every slice after that got cold and bland. To fully enjoy the pizza, you would have had to consume it within five minutes of being served. After my third slice (which was about as small as a Round Table Pizza slice), the pizza just started tasting like Domino's cardboard. The service has a lot of room for improvement. Not one employee I saw that night had a smile on his/her face, and I'm not sure they were appreciative of our business with them. When one of the servers who gave us our appetizers came by, he had a facial expression that seemed to indicate he would rather be mopping up bathroom floors at the nearby Pavilions instead...or at least be somewhere not named "Straw Hat Pizza." Everyone else seemed to enjoy the pizza and appetizers, but not much more than me. Overall, I would rate Straw Hat Pizza as somewhat less than mediocre at best. Not a place that I would recommend for a quality pizza party. They have locations all around California and one in upstate Nevada, but having had Round Table Pizza cater for me one time, I'd still go with the Last Honest Pizza without a doubt! read more

Terrible service from Denise the BossLady, herself. I do not recommend dining at this location. Went in with my 8 year old daughter and ordered the #1 daily special with 2 water cups. After paying upfront, we served ourselves with water from the fountain drink area. Denise took it upon herself to raise her voice and to point at my daughter's cup-- stating, "No! Poor that out! If you want soda, pay for soda!" So, I kindly let Denise know that if she had a problem to come talk to me first and not to talk to my daughter the way she did. She instinctively denied it and said I didn't do anything wrong. However, her tone was certainly not in the manner you talk to any human being. I do recall the water hinge is on the same dispenser as the Hi-C lemonade and after talking to my daughter she accidentally pressed the dispenser and she didn't know whether it was water or not. So, perhaps separate the water from the fountain drinks to prevent ever yelling at anyone's daughter again. The entire dine in was miserable, Denise certainly doesn't know customer service.
