If you were to ask 5 year old me what food she could eat for the rest of her life it would've been strawberries and we are still going strong 30 years later. Another local neighborhood spot I was in the mood for ice cream to follow my lunch and have heard about the popular Carlsbad strawberry company. Service was quick as the line was not long, although I think I missed it when they called my order from the window as another order was ready at the same time, but I assumed the two folks going up to get the order both ordered something until I realized they walked away without both. The menu is also only available to see if you're standing right up at the window, it's a small little space. I was able to get a strawberry shortcake sunday of sorts with shortcake, strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream for $9, serving size perfect for two. All ingredients tasted fresh and homemade. We showed up at 8:25 PM on a Tuesday however there was a blonde lady working in the front wearing a red jacket and mentioned that the store was already closed. Unfortunately we were family five and we're not able to get our desired dessert and became very sad. We also had a child with us so they were also throwing a tantrum. I really like this place, but it made me very sad and upset and into this day. I'm not forgotten the fact that it was not open actually until nine but only until 830 so if you're going there, please make sure to get there very early otherwise, it might be closed because of a lazy disgruntled employee. read more

You can stand and enjoy all things strawberry, it's very casual. There's no seating. The strawberry shortcake was the obvious must. The cake was angel food cake. We were expecting shortbread, but enjoyed the fluffy angel cake. It was topped with strawberries and fresh whipping cream. We loved the dole whip strawberry and dole whip strawberry pineapple. It tasted identical to Disneylands Dole whip. We also had the strawberry lava sundae, it had a great texture and sweetness. We had a lot of fun here. It's great for a grab and go dessert. read more

Love this place! We were looking for a dessert place after lunch and found this place on Yelp! It's a very unassuming shack on the street so it's very easy to miss! They have plenty of strawberry options. Uncle strawberry tiramisu, ice cream, soda, cannoli, lava cake, and much more! I opted for a swirl cone while my boyfriend got a float with strawberry and pineapple once cream. The cone was delicious. Not only was the vanilla and strawberry swirl good, but so was the cone. The cone was actually strawberry flavored! And to my surprise, the bottom of the cone was a fresh strawberry! Usually a lot of cones gave chocolate at the bottom so the strawberry was a very nice surprise! My boyfriend enjoyed his float too. Overall I will be back! This place is super disappointing and way overpriced. We were taking a road trip down to San Diego and decided to veer off the beaten path. Spotted this adorable little strawberry shack in Carlsbad, and it had a classic, vintage charm so we had to stop! It's clear this place has been around a while, and I wonder if it is living off its higher Yelp ratings due to memories from its heydey. We were a bit taken aback at the prices, which were high to begin with but especially so once you see the portion size and the quality of what you are served. We opted to share a strawberry shortcake, and it did not live up to our expectations. I was thinking a place that specializes in strawberries would have an amazing shortcake, but this was something I could've put together at home with similar ingredients from the local grocery store. Instead of a traditional freshly baked / biscuit-like shortcake, this was nothing but a chunk of what appeared to be mass-produced angel food cake. It was topped with what they claimed was "homemade whipped cream," but it was flat and runny and did not taste like it was freshly made from scratch. The "fresh picked strawberries" also appeared to have been frozen and thawed, and their flavor was disguised by a thick, disgusting, overly sweet syrup. I wouldn't have been so irritated by this if I had paid maybe the $3 that it was worth, but the close to $7 price tag (including tax) was quite the sting. I guess I'll give this place another try if I'm ever back in the area, but I'll go for a milkshake instead. The shortcake is a real letdown. read more
