I ordered the taco plate with nopales and al pastor. Nopales and Al Pastor Taco: The nopales was pretty yummy and had a nice roasted flavor to it. Similar with the al pastor, it was quite juicy but did not have as much of a grilled char flavor. The flavor was pretty delicious for both tacos and I appreciate the singular tortilla and already dressed tacos. Horchata: I ordered a horchata as well and was pleasantly surprised they did not default to adding ice which was quite nice. Chips and Salsa: We also ordered the chips and salsa which was nicely larger than expected. The tomatoes were chopped quite well and tasted very fresh. Quesadilla: We ordered a quesadilla al pastor as well which was quite a generous portion and yummy but they forgot to hold the sour cream when we requested it. Overall, the food here was delicious but on the pricier side for tacos and quesadillas. I would come back once in a while to try their other flavors! read more

Solid place for tacos and Mexican food in the Sunset. My friend and I walked here for a late lunch after hanging out at Golden Gate Park and it was still pretty busy even at off hours. Service was good. We both got agua fresca and tacos--I loved the horchata. It was creamy and sweet and flavorful. What made Street Taco stand out to me was the free chips and salsa! That used to be more common! I enjoyed my Shrimp tacos. They were fresh, spicy, and grilled nicely. Prices are reasonable and portions are good. Will be back. On a weekday night, most people were getting their tacos, burritos, etc. to go, but my friend and decided to eat in in their upstairs area. I tried their burrito with carne asada with my choice of black beans, and it was ready downstairs in around 5 minutes. For the price, the portion size was more than decent! Can't believe it took me this long to try out this place! It used to be La Fonda, so it totally gave me the same vibes. I do wonder if it's ran by the same people just rebranded. It's always tough when a long-time neighborhood favorite misses the mark, especially when it's been a reliable go-to spot. I've enjoyed the food at Street Taco, but my most recent visit was unfortunately pretty disheartening. While it was a yummy burrito, I found a hair in my burrito. When I brought it to the staff's attention, the interaction felt quite dismissive. Perhaps there may have been a language barrier involved, but the initial response was that the hair wasn't visible, followed by a claim that no one working had short hair. It was only after I physically pulled the hair out and started to take a photo of the burrito that the staff offered an apology. On top of that, there were a few unexpected changes to the experience. I was informed that they charge $0.50 for green salsa something I've never been informed of or charged for previously. and my "super burrito" didn't come with the side of chips that usually accompanied my orders in the past. I'm a big believer in second chances, but after being a loyal customer for so long, this specific experience was really off-putting. Less than a year after my review of La Fonda surviving through all these years, it closed. That's happening with far too many longtime restaurants I've reviewed in the past few years (the John S. version of the announcer's curse?). The San Francisco Street Taco empire continues to grow. By my count, there are four locations now. I really doubt I'll ever go to the SoMa one, but Potrero Hill? Maybe? Right, back to Irving Street. Its menu is identical to Haight Street, but because its space is smaller, it feels more efficient. It isn't more efficient, but there are fewer places to sit, and some of those are upstairs, so you will notice or at least be more aware of people ordering to go. With Gordo and Underdogs a quick walk away on 9th Avenue, this place doesn't really serve any real purpose for me. Even if I wanted to take it to go and eat in Golden Gate Park, those other two places are better and closer to the park. The people here are very nice, and I like how they changed the color scheme inside this space, although it still reminds me--and probably always will remind me--of La Fonda. read more

I just found one of my new favorite taco places! My friends and I were craving some tacos after a nice day at the beach. This place unfortunately does not have any taco Tuesday deals but their tacos are priced decently for SF pricing. One order of tacos comes with two fairly large tacos for $11. I love that it's $11 no matter what kind of meat you select. Each taco comes with lots of meat on top making it good value. Also every order comes with complimentary chips and salsa which was nice! My friends and I shared 5 orders of tacos, 2 orders of fish, 1 order of shrimp, 1 order of carne asada, and 1 order of carnitas. I just returned from ordering a burrito here, which I have done many times in the past. Here's what I saw take place: The cook placed a bunch of uncooked meat, within an inch of the meat he was reheating for my burrito. Then, 3 times over the next few minutes, he used the same utensils that he had used on the uncooked chicken (especially dangerous), to re-arrange the meat he was going to put in my burrito. Using the same utensils now contaminated by exposure to the uncooked meat, he adjusted and scooped up the cooked chicken for my burrito, and put it in my food. This is a cardinal sin in cooking of any kind. One NEVER uses the same utensils exposed to uncooked meats, to manipulate cooked meat that is about to be served. I did not feel inclined to bring this to their attention for a variety of reasons, including the following: it was clear that they do not keep the utensils separated, and have no system for ensuring that utensils and surfaces exposed to uncooked meat, are hygenic. With their present system, which isn't really a system at all, foodborne illness MUST be regularly transmitted to their customers. As it was clear they had no way to mitigate this, I did not mention it directly to them. I will have to dispose of the burrito. DO NOT EAT HERE. This restaurant is openly, regularly violating basic food hygiene procedure... and the law. read more

I like the little Street Taco storefront and eating there occasionally. I took off one star just because my last order had a puddle of oil that dripped off of the tacos. It was kind of gross. I'd still go back and give it another shot but I wish they'd make the meat a little healthier. read more

I used to live nearby and eat at La Fonda pretty often. Saw that Street Taco had opened in the old La Fonda spot and had to try it. I'm not sure if it's the same owners/chefs or not. The place looks updated, cute & clean. Maybe a little more like a chain restaurant than before, but in a friendly way. It still has the upstairs dining area, which is the best. The food was good! We had the al pastor burrito (with no lettuce, because who puts lettuce in a burrito?) and it was very flavorful. Also ordered a side of the rice, which was my favorite item back in the day at La Fonda. The recipe seemed the same (or very similar) to me: heavily seasoned and full of veggies. Yum! read more

A trompo of al pastor in the sunset! I was suspicious of this place because the branding seemed a little corporate, but this low key might have the best tacos in the area.
