They have all the same food as upstairs but also an additional menu downstairs . The ambiance is a bit more vibey and hip than upstairs which is a traditional steakhouse. The blue cheese truffle stuffed olives are where it is at. They have a hard time deciphering between a dirty and slightly dirty martini though, that's my only issue with that drink. We got the crab cocktail, wedge chopped up, strip, whipped potatoes and the delightfully famous truffle creamed spinach. For dessert we had the cheesecake as our finale. Great vibe having dinner here with a group of 8 on a hot Saturday night. It is a louder ambience with a classic steakhouse decor. We had reservations and waited only about 10 mins before getting seated. Throughout the night different people in our party made note of the playlist while we ate because they were all timeless hits from different eras. I started with a barrel aged old fashion. It was on the sweeter side for my taste, but as long as it has the single block ice, I'm happy because it keeps from watering down. The wedge salad was nicely displayed. The lobster chowder was very good even though I would have expected lobster bisque on the menu instead. Topped dinner off with a dry aged rib eye, which was perfectly cooked medium rare. The grilled garlic bulb was like butter and a beautiful touch with the steak. Although the garlic was delicious, I had to be careful the rest of the night while talking to everyone. Hahaha! I made a reservation for my birthday and had a great dinner here. We ordered off the restaurant week menu, i got the salmon tartare which i highly recommend. The steak was great and cooked to perfection. The miso cod was delicious. The burger was just alright. The desserts is really where strip house shines - IMHO. The 24 layer chocolate cake was the perfect way to celebrate my 24th birthday. It was super decadent and the perfect chocolate cake, but it definitely serves a crowd and i didn't have more than just a couple of bites. The lemon pound cake was also super delicious and warm when we got it! The service is honestly the best here. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. You know, it's not everyday you get a chance to experience the exclusivity and ambience of a Manhattan speakeasy. The Strip House speakeasy is not one of those places that you have to walk a mile and then swim under a bridge for, it really simple. You make a reservation, walk from the nearby four train and bam your there. When I arrived, I went to the main restaurant and was told that the speakeasy was right next door. It's easy to make that mistake, especially if you haven't been there before. This kind and sweet receptionist took my coat and personal escorted me to the speakeasy. She was so sweet, she checked my coat and made sure the waiter knew I was waiting for a friend to arrive. The Strip House Speakeasy is so sexy on many levels. Everything from the lighting to the wallpaper makes the resturant so chic. I also have to give it up for the music that was playing in the background as well. On to the food and service. I've been to three other speakeasy in the city and each experience has been different. However, this is the first one that I actually had dinner at. At the others, I just had cocktails. The service that I received at the others speakeasies was impeccable and this one was no different. Infact, the service was beyond impeccable, the food was as well. I had a burger and their delicious Waldolf salad. Both were excellently prepared and presented with perfect. If you never had a speakeasy experience, I would highly recommend Strip House Speakeasy. Being originally from the Midwest, I'm always leery about going to a steak house in NYC. However the Striphouse was highly recommended by a friend, but he'd never been west of West Virginia so I was still reluctant, but I went with two friends to try it out. We were met by the lovely Lydia who reminded me how much I miss the authenticity and friendliness of people from the Midwest. We were seated and after being tended to with water and bread, Asma introduced herself as our server. The evening evolved from there into a gastronomical delight. We had filets of three different variations of doneness. They were all perfectly done. We shared many sides and loved them all but the creamed spinach was extra special. We also shared desserts, not the 23 layer cake unfortunately, and had no fault with any. My favorite was key lime pie. Asma was very attentive in spite of a very busy evening in the restaurant. The Chef should have taken a bow as my filet rivaled the best steak I've eaten in Beef country. Even the manager, I think Aiden, came to check on us. This spot is a hidden gem in the city, super steakhouse vibe when you walk in, awesome staff and great food. We ordered the bacon for starters and I ended up making it into a sandwich which was pretty good! All of the sides are beautifully cooked and of course the steak itself was perfectly cooked. The beauty about living in nyc is that when you think you've tried em all , there's always more. I've lived here my entire life. And just last week I stumbled upon this gem with a family member of mine after working all day. It was around 5pm on a Friday and we just finished power washing an entire outdoors restaurant not to far from. We didn't have a reservation so we took a shot in the dark to just walk in. (Highly recommend a reso.) we were greeted by the hostess and they just opened their doors about 30 mins prior so she was very happy to seat us. (Winning!) we walk through the dim red lit restaurant to be sat a couple tables in across from the bar. Our server approached us to greet us and give water to let us know the bread will be out shortly. Told us the specials and poured our drinks. As we sat. The customers started pouring in. So this is why I felt lucky to get a spot here on such short notice. The food was beyond amazing along with the wait staff! From hostess all the way to food runners! Our waiter was amazing!! I believe his name was Benny but I could def be wrong. Very attentive, helpful and full of knowledge! Def walked out of there beyond satisfied! Would I return? 100%!! Pricey steakhouse but it has a nice old school charm. It's a bit cramped inside with your neighboring tables but that is new york for you. Very dark ambiance so it's a place to wow a client but i would say necessarily a date since its cramped. The go to dish here is the bone in strip or the aged bone in rib eye. Wonderful tender flavor with a nice pepper and salt crust. The oyster appetizers were also great 6 east/ 6 west. Wonderful of the sea flavor. I'd forgo the sides as none of them stood out and you can save a few bucks. The dessert of the night had to be the layer chocolate cake. Large portion which was enough to serve 4. The Romans named it " iecur ficatum ", iecur means liver and ficatum derives from ficus, meaning fig in Latin. I'm talking about Foie gras. Pronounced " fwah grah ". Foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by gavage (force feeding). Its flavour is rich, buttery, and delicate with an irony undertone. I'm a huge fan. Last night I had it on top of my filet mignon at the Strip House in Manhatten. After a dozen oysters of course. Bernaise sauce coated every bite of the filet but the foie gras went unadorned. It's flavor needs no enhancements. It melts upon contact as your tongue pushes it againts the roof of your mouth. Absolutely delectable and decadent, it did not disappoint. The potatoes were presented in a way I've never had but will try to recreate asap. They were called thousand layer potatoes. Think crispy wise potato chips cut into rectangles stacked and fried in goose fat. Mother of all that is holy. Sometimes I feel like I'm gavaging myself. read more

While the food was good, it could have been better for the price. However my rating is mostly based off of my experience, which can really outshine the food quality. I came very close to walking out and finding something elsewhere. Poorly named "Speakeasy" is in a basement area of Strip House. The only thing remotely like a "speakeasy" is the curtain at the entrance, and pictures of women on the walls. Since our reservation was in Speakeasy, I went down to check in - we were about 20 minutes early so I wasn't expecting to get a seat immediately. I waited a few minutes near the bar/entrance where I noticed a family of 4 crowded & standing around a table. It looked like no one had approached them and they'd been waiting a while. Since no one seemed to be around to seat us (no host stand, no one paying attention to waiting patrons) I figured I'd go upstairs and ask the host there is thats where we needed to check in. There were 2 women there, and was greeted upon entry which was nice. I let the host know that we were early but wanted to check if our table was available. She started scrolling to search, and I let her know the reservation was at Speakeasy. She stopped what she was looking for and told me I'd have to check in downstairs and pointed at where it was. I told her that there wasn't a host or anything there to seat us. Someone else came up, while there was still another host there, asking about changing to a booth and the host I was talking to started talking to her instead and ignoring that I was still standing there waiting for assistance. The other person could have easily handled it while who I was speaking with assisted me. Instead she chose to interject into another issue. Frustrated, I went back downstairs to take a better look in case I missed something. Still, no one. That same family standing around the table unsure of what to do and obviously still hadn't been approached. So I went BACK upstairs and told her, still standing there, that there wasn't a host, we have a reservation for 5. So she stomps around me and leads me downstairs, where she grabs a tablet off of the bar, tells the family who had been waiting that they could sit, and waved at me to follow her. After seating us she stated she was the GM. I was going to leave but the server was nice and veru prompt which was appreciated. Expected much better service from the GM for a $500 meal. Yikes! Where do I start?! From the mildew basement smell to the insensitive manager, it was tragic. My significant other took me there because we were both feeling steak and were sadly disappointed. They tucked us in a corner and we awkwardly whispered talked because how silent it was. The bathrooms smelled horrible, I left one bathroom to go to another but they were both bad. The food was not to par with its prices, definitely overpriced. I ordered the rack of lamb with crispy goose fat potatoes and my date ordered the 14oz ribeye with creamed spinach. Everything tasted okay, but nothing special. A little way into our meal I started to have an allergic reaction, my tongue and lips started to get itchy and swell so I immediately took some bendrayl. (I'm deathly allergic to shellfish to the point where my throat will close) Because I wasn't having direct symptoms, we asked if maybe something touched the potatoes or the same oil was used for something with shellfish. My parents have a restaurant so I understand how easy it is to mix things up or use the same glove. The manager made it a point to ask if I was allergic to garlic and thyme because those were the only ingredients used and later in a condescending tone asked if I needed him to call an ambulance because they was nothing wrong with my meal. It was so unbelievably rude so we just asked the check and left. Honestly save your coins and go somewhere else, we loveeeee The Smith or Dorado Tacos and Quesadillas (on the same block). The good thing is I couldn't care less, and enjoyed (but not as much as I expected to) every bite of that thing. FYI they began lunch service at SHND a few weeks back and are pushing burgers hard, though no one else was there throughout my visit. *Why not get the OpenTable reservation points? **The hours on their site and this listing seem inconsistent, and shy away from explicitly discussing whether they offer takeout, and my server evaded the question accordingly. I came here with 5 guys. We got some drinks at the bar we waited for the whole party. The old fashioned was done nicely but way over priced. The atmosphere was classy, but without all the jacket requirement upstairs in the main dining room. Now the food... The bacon was awesome, thicken juicy with good level of fat and smoke. The spot has history to it. Small but cozy. The decor took me back and the photos on the walls are the perfect touch. Service wad good too. We had the Truffle Popcorn, which was tasty and awesome. The bacon srips were nice and thick. Amazing flavor to them, we tore those up. Surprisingly good was the Poutine Fries, took me back to the ones I had in Canada. The burger called the Big Stinky was on point, I got it medium well, that cheese tasted good on it, but the egg was a good addition to it. Tasted so good when I took that first bite. Nice and runny, I used the fries to clean that excess running yolk off the plate! However, my co workers, thought their burgers were over cooked and they didnt finish theirs. Went here with a friend to check out this place for restaurant week. After perusing the menu, I decided to go with the onion soup, the strip steak, and the vanilla pear cake. The onion soup wasn't your conventional French onion soup option as it came in a bowl with a mini grilled gruyere cheese sandwich on the side for dipping. This seemingly simple dish actually was quite tasty and definitely was a hearty opening to the meal. For the main course, I opted for the strip steak (we were at a steak house after all). The strip steak was good--not outstanding though and the portion size was a bit small. The potatoes and Brussels sprouts were also decent, but nothing to write home about. I finished the meal with the vanilla pear cake with pumpkin ice cream. I am not sure if I really understood the pairing, but the pumpkin ice cream was absolutely delicious! The cake was decent as well, but definitely got outshone by the ice cream. I also had a bite of my friend's banana bread pudding, which was also very tasty. Overall, this place serves up some great food at a decent price for restaurant week. Not a bar and grill for everyday indulgence (on my budget, anyway), the Strip House Grill is everything that's great about the Strip House upstairs with a TV and without tablecloths. I actually think I like the space better downstairs. The can't miss staples of the main menu - tomato & onion salad, mac & cheese, and my personal favorite, the creamed corn w/ pancetta (seriously, it's THAT good) find new friends with the burger menu - bacon cheddar burger was awesome, as expected, but the short rib burger, without cheese, was every bit as flavorful as the bacon cheeseburger without the toppings; definitely worth $18 as they come with fries and are served with L/T/O, pickle slices and a banana pepper. Next time I need to try the Strip Steak Salad... All that with coffee was $80; tack on a $60 bottle of red and we've got ourselves a meal! I've dined here several times now and I have to say I enjoy the more "casual" aspects of the dining experience but could do with a little better service to match it's Strip House name. We've been seated on the high tops, at the bar, near the bar... the story is always the same: Cramped space. Just enough table room. Cold by the door (in cold weather, steer CLEAR of sitting near the door, that velvet sheet is NOT enough to protect you!). Close enough to servers to hear the ins and outs of service. Let me explain what I mean by the last comment... when I sit at a table and can literally eavesdrop all night on the restaurant innerworkings and waiters saying things like "Table XX said they didn't ask for bottled water so comp it. Table YY needs more bread. Table ZZ wants more butter" that probably means that the waiters should keep their voices down or at least make the innerworkings of the operation a tad more quiet. I also didn't appreciate on my last visit when I was seated near the TV and a waiter who was on duty kept staring at the Knicks game and fist pumping discreetly as I tried to get his attention for a refill on water. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel if I'm spending over $100+pp on a meal, I should expect better service... am I wrong? Anyway - food wise, the food is great. I particularly recommend sharing the Porterhouse for 2 and getting it with sides of mushroom and creamed spinach. Absolutely out of this world. I came here with a big party on a Saturday night with expectations of the atmosphere to be similar to that of the Strip House. I was pleasantly surprised to find this please to have more of a speak easy vibe and I thoroughly enjoyed the overall feel. When it came to the food, we were served several nice seafood towers to start. All of the elements were fresh and I would recommend it for any other large parties dining here. Next we had a choice of bacon or lobster bisque (I did the bacon and there was more than enough to go around) but the others enjoyed the bisque. Getting to the steaks, all of our cuts were cooked to order and the dry rub provided some nice crust to the meat that balanced it overall. For sides we had some creamed spinach and potatoes, staples when it comes to ordering sides for a steak. We finished the meal off with some dessert cake. Overall, you should most definitely come hungry because this was more than enough food for any appetite and everything was done well. The servers were friendly and attentive the entire dining experience. The atmosphere, although intimate and relatively small, provided the perfect sound level for maintaining conversations. After ordering cocktails and several bottles of wine with the food and tip, it came to a very reasonable $160/person.
