We had a great experience here recently! Try the gnocchi for an appetizer: the sauce was nice and creamy. I got the 9 oz. filet cooked medium rare. While it was good, it didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked, which is the reason for 4 stars. The sides are big enough for two people to share, so I would recommend getting a couple to share: asparagus and mushroom risotto were really good. I also enjoyed the mac and cheese. Definitely get the bread pudding for dessert! They caramelize the sugar so it gives it a bit of a crunch mid bite; so worth the extra calories! The wife and I stopped by today for lunch and everything was great. I wanted to try the Stroubes Roll but was told it was only available at dinner, so instead we split the "1942 Stroubes Original" egg salad/bacon sandwich as an appetizer and we both really liked it. We both opted for the daily lunch special, which was fried chicken w/ sweet potato waffle, Steens syrup, and pecan butter. It also came with a Stroubes salad -- fresh field greens tossed in a bacon-shallot vinaigrette with blue cheese crumbles, spiced pecans, cherry tomatoes and pickled okra -- and it was awesome. The fried chicken was done just right with a delicious crust while still moist inside. The waffle was almost like dessert -- succulent, sweet, and rich when combined with the syrup and pecan butter. Our server was somewhat of a slacker but that didn't deter from the great food. We definitely will be back, most likely at lunch again since the prices are a bit more reasonable. read more

Very disappointed. Never going back. It was a birthday celebration for 2 of the 7 people. Let them know ahead of time that 3 of us had severe dietary restrictions. This was a Sunday evening, the place was by no means full. We were one of 2 large tables & there were 2-3 other tables. The waiter seemed okay at first but throughout the entire meal he would disappear. When the salads FINALLY were served -we had to find the pepper mills ourselves. He would take orders, then disappear. He continually mixed up what we could & couldn't eat & was totally clueless about how to handle our orders. The kitchen didn't seem to help him any. My husband finally got a hamburger that looked & tasted like the frozen Angus patties I get at Sam's. Then he had to ask for sides & dressing which were sad & pathetic. For an $18 hamburger. My salmon was good but whatever it was on -was icky. The other meals seemed okay. When we stated how cold we were -he told us the manager said he could raise the temp 2 degrees. The lights were out above our table so we were eating in the dark. This is a place serving $16 glasses of wine, $38 steaks and $18 hamburgers. Nothing said about the birthdays -the Mexican place we went to the night before sang a song and was able to handle our food allergies. I took a group of customers to Stroubes last night. The reason I chose the restaurant was due to the great service and food I have gotten over the years. Last night we tried to order steaks and were told they were out of ribeyes, we tried to order appetizers and were told they were out out of two that we had chosen, we tried to order wine and they had one bottle of what we had ordered. The manger did give us a better wine for the same price. The excuse on the food was that the chef was out that day. I've never heard that excuse from a restaurant in my life. To add to the slow service not having any of the things we ordered made it that much worse. read more

Maybe it was just me but I found Stroubes to be overpriced for what you get. The Corn Crab and Brie Bisque was a great start but the Stroubes burger is a let down. The meat was fair enough and the pork belly was an interesting addition but unfortunately it was washed out by the compound spread that just ran out everywhere. My wife had the Redfish dish and a side of Brussels Sprouts and she enjoyed her meal so I will chalk it up to bad ordering for me. Chef Varnedoe changed the main menu a bit, as Stroubes is becoming a Steak AND Seafood joint. I love that it is more a la carte! Endless combinations of surf and turf, YES PLEASE! If you are a Manhattan fan...do not walk out of this establishment without slurping on a Vanilla infused Manhattan!! If you would rather wash that steak down with some grape, DEFINITELY try the Blue Frankish from Black Castle. If you're a Pinot fan, you will quickly head to Calandros and buy a case. My company decided to treat us to Stroubes for a night of celebration and amazing dining. Unfortunately, this did not come to fruition. When I arrived my party was already there and were already forewarning me about the bartender/manager, Layla, was incredibly rude to each of them. I experienced this for myself when I sat at the bar. I did not receive service from her due to her preference of speaking with other patrons. Once she did find time to reach me, she made my drink right away. However, once she made my drink she proceeded to continue her conversations with other patrons before bringing it to me. The final straw was when I attempted to pay for my drink she stated, "Can I help you?" with what I interpreted as absolute disdain. Insulted and frustrated, I chose not to accept the drink and asked for her to return my card. I informed my bosses and asked that we never return to this establishment for any future company functions. The ONLY saving grace was our server, Ben, who was professional and incredibly kind. I give the second star because of him and the hosting staff who was also very welcoming. I would love to say the cuisine was also worthy of the second star, but Layla's behavior and treatment to myself and the rest of my party was too distracting to even notice it. One would think during a time where businesses are working hard to cope with pandemic still effecting how many patrons walk through the door that a company sponsored twelve top that made a reservation days in advance would be treated with more respect. The French onion soup is some of the BEST I have ever experienced. I would have liked a crouton, but the broth was so good I couldn't complain. The duck was very good- great presentation! Stroube's is, unfortunately, a place I don't always have top of mind, but when I do make it downtown I always wonder why I don't eat here more often. Their steaks are cooked perfectly. The last time I was here they had a cream of artichoke soup that was one of the best soups I've ever eaten. The seasoning was slightly spicy but still had that great artichoke flavor too. I've had the duck here and I would give it an 8. The skin could have been rendered a little more but the meat was cooked to a very beautiful medium rare. Our meal ended up being verrrrryyyyyyy expensive. The food was alright. I enjoy their appetizers. The entrees are enjoyable but not the best in town for an upscale steak restaurant. Anybody can cook a steak. The calamari was typical. The pork belly du Jour was good. Everyone raved about the Stroubes roll. The complimentary bread they bring was delicious. As for the sides, I didn't enjoy one of them. Most of them had a strange smoky flavor (creamed spinach and grits). I was really looking forward to my crawfish risotto. It arrived cold and lacking flavor. I personally enjoyed my vegetarian gnocchi. I love a good gnocchi. My husband said the ribs were okay and my brother in law said the duck was not good at all. I'll eat there if I'm downtown, but I would much rather go to Ruth's Chris for the amount of money and quality of food. The service was good. My water at alcoholic beverage never went empty.
