I have been to Stroubes a lot this semester. It all started when a friend told me about their happy hour. So we went on a Wednesday afternoon around 5:30. I ordered the prosecco (of course I did! lol) then the crawfish beignets, the meat pies, and the duck and andouille eggrolls. I actually shared them with a few friends so I ended up ordering duck as a meal. It comes over smoked gouda grits w/ spinach and brandied cherries. Our server is actually a manager there as well and they were a bit short-staffed but she definitely did an amazing job taking care of our orders. The second time I came I ordered the short rib which comes with the ricotta gnocchi. Very flavorful. I ordered the blueberry lemon drop martini. It was also excellent. The most recent visit, we ordered the calamari and I went back to the duck. I'm already planning the next visit. read more

Tiny portions. Who in their right mind would think it's okay to only have 3 normal sized shrimp on an appetizer. Or the 3 baby sized lamb lollipops. It was like they cut them in half before they served them. I've never seen lamb chops that small in my life. The table sitting next to us said they are never going back. read more

The lamb lollipops were medium rare. I would prefer medium well. The first bowl of gumbo was salty, the second bowl was spoiled tasting. We were prepared to order and try several dishes but after the managers ( Laila & Savanna) chose not to acknowledge us ; we left. It wasn't busy at all. It was my husband and Me. We had a dinner here on the Wednesday after Christmas while heading home after visiting relatives. My filet mignon and husband's rib eye were both excellent. Worst food ever.I think this may just be the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. All the food that came out was cold. Went to celebrate a birthday and nothing we ordered tasted like anything. We ordered a medium wagyu steak ($120.00) the steak was cold and it came out rare. Also ordered the redfish, it was also cold. Truffle fries cold. None of the food had any flavor. During our trip to Baton Rouge my boyfriend and I had high hopes for Stroubes. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The ambiance was nice, not too dark and not too loud. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The food is where they fell short. My boyfriend got the duck breast and I got the beef bourguignon. It's not that it was bad, it was just very mediocre. My beef bourguignon was luke warm and I only got a few little pieces of tough meat, which for $30 seemed like highway robbery. My boyfriend enjoyed the duck, but everything seemed like such small portions for the price. They were entree sizes we'd expect at a 4star NYC restaurant, not in Baton Rouge. On their website it says: "Our hand cut steaks, seared duck breast, fresh seafood, and unique take on classic preparations are a tribute to our attention to detail that will provide you with a dining experience that is second to none." I would not classify this visit as second to none, just one I'd rather not have again. read more

My friends and I went here for a birthday dinner. It was a Saturday night. It was a party of 10. We were greeted by Dan. Dan was very short and very dry. He seemed impatient. He came to the table to bring drinks and on of the guests were talking and hadn't noticed him there and he shoved the drink to the guy. We were asking questions about the menu and the specials and he seemed frustrated. Eventually we asked for the manager. He was very personable and warm. He let us express our concerns and apologized. He also sent a new waitress Sonny( I think this was her name) to the table. She was amazing. She was helpful. She answered questions and made suggestions about the menu and she interacted with us. The food was really good but the service started off not so well. I will be going back. read more

We asked them to PLEASE make sure that our entrees were hot. They were not. Grits were COLD!!! *Update - Response to management. We absolutely did speak with mgt after the cold pork belly. They warmed it up and brought it to us. We were told that although the chutney is served cold...the bork belly should NOT have been cold and that next time we should ask for warm chutney. It was at THAT point that I made a point to ask that mgt PLEASE ensure that our entrees came out hot. She was very nice and said OK. The entrees came out COLD. When we advised our waiter...he said that the kitchen was closed. When we told him that was unacceptable...our plates were clearly reheated "as is". The manager came out to apologize. When visiting a restaurant of this calibre...I do not expect microwaved reheats. The taste of the food was EXCELLENT. However, the mgt fails that allowed for repeated dishes not holding temperature...totally unacceptable. read more

Friday night at Stroubes! Started with happy hour. Stroubes rocks happy hour from 5-7 weekdays with $5 bites and $7 drinks in the bar area. Normally we do just that, but decided to get a table after grabbing a drink. We tried the roasted beet and goat cheese salad. I wasn't sure how I would feel about beets, but was pleasantly surprised with this dish. It all came together perfectly with roasted beets, goat cheese, spiced pecans and julienned apples. The flavors complemented each other well. Next was the chargrilled gulf shrimp with Gouda grits, brussel sprouts and crawfish topping. The fish was prepared perfectly and I can't say enough about the Gouda cheese grits. They are heavenly. And last, but not least was the chocolate mousse for dessert and we were not disappointed. The one and only downside was the bar area was so busy and they clearly did not have enough help. One guy had been waiting over 20 minutes to be acknowledged so he could place his drink order. OMG!!!!!!!!! I was staying at the holiday inn across the street and took a look to see what was nearby. I found this place and decided to take it for a spin. Seemed like a pretty upscale place and seeing that I'm visiting from out of town and was headed to an event at the raising cane up the street right after, I didn't have "upscale" clothing to wear. Luckily once inside the other patrons were fairly casual. I was instantly greeted with smiling and friendly staff. Zero wait time, sat at a booth. The waiter brought out a drink and food menu. I ordered the raspberry lemon drop as my drink. I really had a taste for lamb chops but that was an appetizer and didn't come as an entree. I decided to piece my order together. I had the lamb chop lollipops (appetizer) and a side order of the crawfish Mac & Cheese. The lemon drop came out first, outstanding! It wasn't too sweet and the amount of liquor in it was definitely satisfying. Lamb chops and Mac & cheese came out next. When I tell you these were the best lamb chops of my life!!!! Seasoned to perfection, cooked to perfection, and plated to perfection. Even the spinach underneath it was good. The Mac & cheese was also amazing! Like, I'm sure my eyes literally rolled to the back of my head multiple times during this meal. I ordered my second lemon drop, different flavor and it was also perfection!! The staff was great, my waiter Ben M was amazing and very attentive and gave some great suggestions to ensure I'd enjoy my selections. The atmosphere was also very soothing. Fine dining in Baton Rouge. They have a happy hour from 5-7pm. $5 apps and $7 cocktails. I had the Blood Orange Old Fashioned and the crawfish beignets- those are like crack. So good. Perry at the bar knows how to make a cocktail. Interesting to note, they have no beers on tap. For dinner I ordered the crab, corn, and Brie bisque ($8) and complimentary garlic bread to start, and the 6oz filet mignon Oscar style for dinner ($30 + $15). Desiree, my server, was exemplary. Friendly and polite. The soup was rich and creamy with just a touch of heat. The warm garlic bread was delicious with lots of melted butter, garlic, and a hint of rosemary. The ambiance is classy, but not over the top. High ceilings and large windows with a charming view of the street and trees. My filet mignon was perfectly cooked medium rare on a bed of asparagus topped with lump crabmeat and béarnaise sauce. Simply awesome. I'm glad I got the 6oz. The 9oz would be too much. Was treated to a lovely date night by my husband to Strobes. It was our first time there and everyone was very accommodating and being seated went smoothly as we had a reservation. We decided to be sat at a candlelit booth that set the mood with views of downtown to our right. Our server quickly came by to ask for our drink choices and was kind enough to allow us to try a wine before purchasing the bottle. We decided on an appetizer and it was brought out to us without too much of a wait. We had the lamb lollipops and they were precisely what we were craving. Cooked medium, seasoned perfectly and paired with a sweet dressing -- delicious. For our entrees, I had the filet mignon topped with hollandaise and my husband had the Ribeye. Both were cooked to perfection and honestly did not require any complement for enjoyment. I apprehensively decided on the bacon roasted brussel sprouts and was not disappointed. In fact, I could not stop myself from munching on them! My husband had the haricot verts and mentioned they were up to par, but honestly nothing more. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée and our only regret was not bringing any Lactaid (since we're lactose intolerant, lol). Nonetheless, we decided the dessert would be worth the pain later, lol. We were right! We downed the treat in less than five minutes. Overall we had a wonderful experience. Only wished the server would have been more apt on recommendations. Several things went well, one did not. Ribeye cooked med-rare was excellent. I'm a picky steak eater and this slab of meat was delicious. Girlfriends braised short ribs were also flavored and cooked perfectly. Whipped potatoes as a shared side was fantastic. Before dinner cocktails were a great start to the meal. (Buffalo Trace old fashioned and Fleur de lis) our dessert was the La mousse (possibly spelled right) was recommended as a tiramisu alternative and it was a wonderful end to the meal. The only drawback was the wine recommendation, but to be fair we're pretty snobby with our wine and the wine offered was one of those crowd favorite fruit bombs. (Horror Show) We're staying down the street at the watermark (their restaurant was closed due to staffing shortages) and I'd recommend this over the hotel restaurant any day. read more

Hit and miss would be my description. My waiter even agreed that the $30 beef (supposedly filet mignon) tips aren't great. I had to send both the tips and the Brussels sprouts back. There was no bacon and no cooked on the Brussels sprouts. Eating barely raw vegetables wasn't on my menu for tonight. The grilled redfish though along with the jambalaya style rice was great! The grilled asparagus, again not cooked accordingly.... Not great. I've done a better job of asparagus on my personal outside grill...and I'm not even a cook. read more

I was traveling for work and decided I deserved a nice dinner so I went to Stroubes. Inside it is dimly lit and swanky, it would be a great date spot. I had the duck egg rolls and caprese salad with carrot cake as a desert and it was to die for. I will order appetizers instead of meals 9/10 as it gives me the chance to sample a menu and the variety is nice. Everything was wonderful and their service is great too! The duck egg rolls were the standout of my meal, they were a little spicy as they had sausage in them too. So good! I love Louisiana food. These spring rolls are the best I've had in a long time, I can't stop thinking about them. I wish we had a restaurant like Stroubes in Arizona. Happened to find this on yelp while on a quick shopping trip. Was worried that we may be under dressed but felt comfortable in our jeans and T-shirt. My sister and I both ordered the lunch special 8 oz. tenderloin with parmesan mashed potatoes and hollandaise sauce. We also ordered a side of bacon braised Brussels sprouts. Everything was absolutely delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly, the amount was just enough to be full and the service was on point! Oh and the iced tea was awesome! Tonight, March 28, we went for dinner with friends we had not seen for many years. We had a great time, great company and great food. I gave this restaurant 5 stars because the food was absolutely delicious and the service was splendid. I got the Duck Louisiane medium and it was cooked to perfection. The Gouda grits were so good as well as the roasted spinach. We ordered a plate of fries along and it was a lot for the price and of course was also delicious. As a desert we got a fresh cooked bread pudding. I can't explain how good the bread pudding was. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

I was recently dined at Stroubes and it was the first time I'd been there in a couple years. When we got there for dinner on Friday night, the community event Live After Five was in high gear across the street. The restaurant was busy but since we had a reservation we were seated right away. The hostess offered two options. One was a table overlooking the street (with a view of the activity outside) and the other was a high-backed booth on the far side of the dining room. We opted for the latter for a cozier feel and more privacy. Our server arrived a couple minutes later and she was good about answering our questions about the menu before we ordered. This time I got a soup and entrée. Bread Basket - It's worth mentioning that they offer more than the standard white bread loaf. It's garlic bread generously sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. It was tasty but much too salty. Normally I enjoy working my way through the bread basket but I could only eat one piece. Corn, Crab and Brie Bisque -This cream-based soup had a sweetness from the crab and corn and funkiness from the brie. The first time I tried it I thought it was amazing. This time it was waaay too salty and I couldn't eat more than two or three bites. The portion was also really small. For the price ($8) I expected the cup to be more than half full. Yellowfin Tuna - The grilled tuna was pretty good but I didn't care for the orange sauce drizzled on top at all. Not sure why they didn't drizzle it onto the plate. That way if I didn't like it I could have eaten around it. Anyway, the side dishes were good: the crawfish risotto was flavorful and the haricots vert were bright green and crisp. The ambiance was nice and overall the food was ok but the saltiness made me wonder if anyone tasted the dishes before they left the kitchen. I was disappointed that this experience wasn't as good as it had been the first time...so 3.5 stars. Stroubes won't be my first pick next time I'm in town but I will probably be back at some point. read more

"Downtown Baton Rouge restaurant perfect for lunch and dinner." I came here for a date lunch with my husband; it was my second time and my huband's first to dine there. This is the perfect place for either a casual business lunch or an intimate lunch with your special someone. The booth seating is great here! From another review, I read that these create a sense of privacy and they were right! Don't want a large, overwhelming menu? Stroubes is perfect; their menu is simple and does not go on for days. My husband and I always like to share meals, so we had no choice but to order two different dishes. But first, the buttery garlic parmesan bread with a Stroubes salad - mixed greens with spiced candied pecans and blue cheese. My husband ordered the sirloin, which is not always something him or I like to order. We have a fear of it coming out tough. Here though, it was cooked perfectly, even as a well-done steak. The steak held its juiciness, as should all high-quality meats. Another superb dish ordered were the seafood cakes - crawfish, shrimp and crab with bits of corn. The flavors of the seafood cakes were robust and maintained the light, crispy texture even with the hollandaise poured over it. I don't get to have too many sit-down, intimate meals with my husband because we are always running in two different directions. Given that I am a foodie, I always enjoy dishes with personality and wake up my senses. Stroubes is classy and I will be a frequent visitor! read more

My husband and I were staying at a hotel downtown and didn't want to go eat at the restaurant so we placed a to-go- order. I called about 20 minutes before we walked over and the phone conversation went well enough. The missing star is because the person did not tell me how long it would take or the total cost. As we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a very friendly hostess. She steered is towards the bar to get our order. No problems at all. The food was fantastic.
