We chose the lamb lollipops for an appetizer. I had them cook it medium and it was beyond tender. I had the Louisiana Fresh Catch (Red Fish) blackened over a bed of asparagus and crawfish risotto with jumbo lump crabmeat sherry cream. The combination and presentation was amazing. Couldn't stop chewing from start to finish. The environment was warm and the staff was professional and knowledgable. Kudos to Chef Ross and his team! I wish I could give more than 5 starts to the talented staff and absolutely AMAZING food and service! I am kicking myself for not taking a picture if my last meal which were the crawfish beignets with the fried redfish over crawfish risotto and asparagus and house made hollandaise. Talk about Louisiana on a plate! The get I brought with me fishes often and watched redfish on a regular basis, so I wanted to bring him to a place where I knew he would have the best redfish he would ever have... and they knocked it out of the park! He said it was the best redfish he has tasted (apart from his lol)... the batter wasn't too thick, and it didn't overtake the fish itself. I paired my meal with a Canebrake and he ordered a rye whiskey hot toddy since it was a bit chilly outside. Food was incredible. The matradee obviously did not want to sit my party of 9. On 3/23/19 after a wrestling tournament, we walked in that evening and she told us they can't sit more than a party of 8 and they already had two large parties about to be seated. We told her we were fine splitting up the tables to 4 and 5 and she rambled on about the manager not wanting more than 4 to sit at a table. She insisted that we were not going to be able to be seated and it was the manager who finally sat us in a room separate from the rest of the crowd. We did not have our own waitress. We had the bartender. The bartender was actually an incredible young woman who was being dumped on. We were underdressed. We did not know the attire. We simply wanted to eat somewhere close to our hotel and found this place. There was no indication of a required dress attire. So we were shoved away from everyone and given a busy bartender to be our waitress. She made the experience fantastic for all of us. If it weren't for her, I'd rate this a 1 out of 5 stars. The matradee really set the tone. Your bartender, however, deserves a raise! read more

UPDATE: I've been back here a couple of times and I would like to up my rating to 4 stars because they have changed the menu and the service is fantastic. The portions are small-ish, but flavorful and their happy hour can't be beat with $5 martinis and margaritos (different than a margarita, but I'll let you ask why). Word to the wise, if you go and they have the Strawberry Creme Cake that the chef's wife makes or the Crab Gnocchi, GET THEM BOTH. Was excited about having dinner here for the first time but unfortunately it's not worth the visit. Everything was bland. We had calamari had a great crisp but no flavor. The Venetian sauce was good. Pork belly was mediocre at best. I was looking for smoked flavor but no seasoning or any smoking to it. It was horrible. Then on to the steak and potatoes. I asked that my steak be cooked MEd Well but unfortunately it was cold and medium rare. I sent it back to the kitchen and it returned and wasn't anything different. We didn't need a reservation when walking in on a Wednesday night which was nice. But it took forever for the hostess to seat us. We were the only ones waiting, and it must have taken her five minutes to bring us to a table. However, the service once we sat down along with the quality of the food more than made up for the lacking hostess. We started with the Stroubes roll as an appetizer, and it was out of this world! Very nice restaurant and within walking distance to our hotel. However, the service is very slow. It look 40 minutes for someone to give us water and take our drink order. We split the Stroubes salad and enjoyed the complimentary garlic bread. My husband ordered the burger and it was dry, but the fries were good. I got the Gulf fish with grits and it was delicious. We got the amaretto creme brûlée for dessert and it was delicious. The waitress tried to make up for the delay in service and was very nice, but we will probably try another restaurant next time we are in town. read more

I recently visited Stroube's for my Birthday. It was my first time going since the Pandemic started. Since I work near by I have gone there many times over the years. I always enjoyed the crab cakes on the lunch menu and I was looking forward to having them for my Birthday lunch. I was truly disappointed to find out that they no longer served the crab cakes even tough the menu is still on Google. Instead I ordered the crawfish pasta which was just ok. The service was ok even though the server seemed not to be are of correct serving practices. Parking is very difficult but I do enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. Wow, amazing, great filling and great sauces for compliments. For the main course the others had steak, but I had the grilled gulf fish(grouper) with smoked gouda grits, Brussels sprouts, and crawfish topping. The meal was delicious. I occasionally work at the courthouse down the street from Stroube's and I was looking for a new place to grab lunch after eating at Sadaf's and Roly Poly for the past few weeks. I walked in and sat at the bar. The bartender was incredibly friendly, and he offered me a drink of my choice after sending my order over to the kitchen staff. I ordered the crawfish pasta with a side Caesar salad, and the bartender made sure to throw in a fresh baguette with my order. On top of that, my food was absolutely to die for and perfectly reasonable at $20 for the amount of food I was given. I even had enough leftovers for a full, delicious lunch the next day. I Showed up with a party of 6 to an almost empty restaurant and couldn't believe the treatment from the hostess. I was informed on my entry that they had to keep the tables open for reservations but that we could sit at the bar. I counted over 4 tables along with 12-14 booths available. While I understand that reservations should come first instead of a walk-in, the treatment was horrible this was the second chance at this establishment and I don't think I will be back. In a struggling business environment for bars and restaurants the front of the house should be more accommodating. read more

First the menu online is not the same when you get there, 2nd my sea bass was ice cold when arrived, 3rd the waitress didn't even mention or offer something for my grand son only fries and later when we left we found out there were colors for kids which she didn't offer, 4th there is nothing for a vegan to eat except fruit and the restaurant was not that busy to say the waitress was not attentive and gone for long periods of time. Attempted to have dinner here last night. Had reservations at 8:30, and started well enough with drinks at the lovely bar. Went downhill from there - wound up being literally THE WORST experience I have ever had in any restaurant - and I do not say that lightly. Upon being seated, no one came to our table for 20 minutes. Not even water. We were seated near the kitchen, so almost everyone on duty walked by us at some point. I got up to see if anyone cared to wait on us and a very pleasant waiter came and took our order and brought us drinks right away. Our 1 appetizer came right away - chicken egg rolls which were harmless enough. From then on - nothing. Literally. After waiting 50 minutes for salads - the waiter apologetically said he had no idea when the food would be out as a 22 person party was ahead of us. Apparently, it was the first large party they ever served. Salads came over 1 hour later. The manager - a very nervous, very young man explained that he could give us no assurance that any food would be forthcoming any time less that 30 minutes later. Incredible - I have never heard of a restaurant that would say such things out loud. We left and ordered take out from a more reliable place. It was a completely embarrassing evening. Astonishing incompetence in every way. I generally do not write reviews, but this was literally unbelievable. From a place that seemed to have a great reputation.
