This was my first time visiting. Celebrating a birthday and it was awful. I am so disappointed in the service and quality of food. I would suggest that everyone avoid Stoubes completely and select one of the other options in downtown Baton Rouge. In the words of the hostess/a current employee..... "she doesn't eat a damn thing there" so why should anyone else. For reference, we asked the hostess that seated us if she had any recommendations since it was our first time visiting, and she immediately told myself and guest to my Birthday dinner that she doesn't eat a damn thing out of the restaurant. From that moment on we were mortified and even scared to eat any of the food that that we ordered. I thought that maybe once we began to order that their food, it's quality and service would make up for her comments however I was wrong. There were shells in the redfish, food temp was off, steak was not cooked properly, our waiter even took a shot that we did not invite her to behind a shade (a shade that was covering a pile of tables and chairs), there was hair on the plates when we sat down, leftover water and utensils on the bar.... Absolutely disgusting. I really don't know how stroubes is still open. I will never return and advise anyone else to never visit. Baton Rouge has better options. Trust me. My husband and I went to Stroube's for the the very first time last year on our 25th wedding anniversary. We ordered before dinner drinks, and Pork Bellies as an appetizer. We then both ordered the Red Fish and wine to go with dinner. It was all so very good and the service was top top-notch. After our dinner the waitress surprised us with the most amazing bread pudding ever. This year for our 26th anniversary we decided we wanted to recreate the experience. We tried to make a reservation 1/1/23 by phone and Open Table online. There was no answer by phone, no recorder, and no response to our online request. We tried again on 1/2/23 several times still no response and no way to leave a message. We tried again several times on afternoon of 1/3/23 Tuesday (which is our anniversary) We finally got someone to answer the phone after 4pm. The website said they opened at 11:00am on Tuesdays. A few hours before our reservation we decided to look at Yelp for reviews. Trouble making reservations got us a little curious. Oh my! The reviews were pretty scathing. At this point we are questioning ourselves. We decided we would go and get a drink and if it looked as though service was going to be bad, we would go somewhere else. We were seated immediately and soon after greeted by a handsome, polite, young man, Di'Monie. We ordered our before dinner drinks but we were a little disappointed that the Pork Bellies were no longer on the menu. We shared a wedge salad all of which came out in a timely manner. The manager made a pass to make sure all was well. We ordered our wine and Redfish dish. It was just as I remembered...SO GOOD. Di'Monie was very attentive and took excellent care of us. We were chatting with him when Jermey the manager passed by again to check on us. We took the opportunity to tell him we were pleased with our meal and service, but to also share with him our trouble making a reservation. He was very interested and promised to look into the issue with the online reservation tool. We talked about the Yelp reviews and learned that Jeremy is now the new manager at and recently moved to Baton Rouge from Montana. He loves Louisiana, and loves the people here. He seemed to genuinely care about the experience customers get when they come in to dine. We were sad to discover dessert is no longer offered for celebrations and bread pudding is no longer available. But Jeremy wasn't having that, so he had the chef whip up a special dessert for our special day. We thoroughly enjoyed our night at Stroube's and we really enjoyed meeting and chatting with Jeremy and Di'Monie. So if you had a bad experience before, maybe give them another try. Thought we would try this for our one night in Baton Rouge, having seen the other reviews. Sat at the bar and had an enjoyable dinner. Barkeep was friendly and allowed my wife to change her "Interesting Wine" selection ( Sauvignon Blanc) when it was not at all to her liking. Started with the gumbo, first edition not warm, so changed that out too; second version was very good! Then my wife had the lollipop lamb and I the venison bolognese both also rather tasty. Finished off with the bread pudding which was low cal (not!) and delicious. Finally the barkeep allowed us to taste a couple of the JCB vodkas on display. A great way to finish! Unfortunately, service was not very good. My party and I just didn't have a good night. To start off, it took around half an hour just to get someone to wait on us. Multiple waiters walked right by and just didn't seem to pay us any mind. When we finally got waited on, we ordered some drinks which we ended up waiting about an hour and a half for. Immediately put in an order for a second round and never even saw those drinks. Food, that was good. I didn't really care for the A5 Kobe, but the rest of it was really good. We stopped by Stroubes Seafood and Steak restaurant in Baton Rouge on our road trip from Houston to New Orleans. This place is definitely worth a visit. Now we have a picky eater (9 years old) who does not like to try anything but after getting through the bread service and the the lamb lollipops she was brave enough to try the venison bolognese and she loved it (poor Bambi). Our middle child loved all the meals - the grit cakes, bbq seasoned shrimp, the very tasty seasoned spinach. My wife loved the duck and we all loved their dessert offerings. I came here on a Thursday night to celebrate my mom's birthday! I've only ever been here for happy hour once before so I didn't really know what to expect. Man, was I in for a surprise. This place is great!! The service is spot on and the food is amazing. Since it was a celebration, we tried a lot of food. The duck egg rolls are savory and sweet with the sauces they put on it. The calamari is honestly one of the best I've had since it's crispy, seasoned well, and the sauce they paired it with is a sweet marinara. The burger was good although a bit too greasy for my tastes. The mac and cheese was bomb as well. The 16oz steak was oh so tender! Huge fan of that was well. Our server was great also! She was very knowledgeable about the menu, super friendly and prompt. I can't wait to go back! ... I went in two more times after they reopened from being closed for the pandemic and it was still just as amazing. All servers were in masks from what I could tell. I've been here now twice in the past month. Two very different experiences in regards to service. 1st Visit - Father's Day weekend, everyone here was wearing a mask which I appreciated. Our server (young man) was very informative, helped us on temps for our meats and had good suggestions. He was fabulous and helped make our visit very smooth! The food was very good, I was impressed with my first visit here. Highlights include the calamari, blueberry lemon drop, short ribs, and steak. I was actually so thrilled with this place I made sure to come back to try happy hour. 2nd Visit - Today, Wednesday for happy hour. Our server (young female) was vastly different from our first one. Upon seating ourselves in the bar area, she came over and said "What could I help you with?".... no name, no introduction, so we had to say... well we'd like to order drinks. Then we decided to order one of every dish they had on happy hour (minus salad). She says okay then we get all our food, but one item (not the salad). We inquire about the missing dish and she goes "Oh well we're not serving the sliders and it's not really supposed to be happy hour, but the host didn't know so I'm just kind going with it..." Very weird... Additionally she took away my cousin's drink without asking if she was finished with it yet... The food was still good, but definitely not worth the service. The reason Stroube's gets 4* is 5* for our fabulous server for Father's Day and the experience then, and I'd give this latest visit 3*. Came here for dinner the day after Valentine's Day and had a pretty less-than-spectacular experience. Our server made himself pretty scarce. Luckily we ordered everything at once, or I'm worried he might never have returned to the table. I was never offered a refill on my root beer. The bread was some of the most rock hard bread I have literally ever eaten: even the croutons on my salad were softer. No seriously. The table next to us was accidentally served a CABBAGE wedge salad. How gross. How do you even make that mistake? The hollandaise sauce I ordered was left off of the plate. Our server brought some on the side and when I asked for A-1, some other person brought me a vinaigrette and asked if that was okay. I just took it but that isn't even close to what I wanted. I wouldn't order the caesar salad again because it was so covered in parmesan, it was nearly inedible. But the steak, redfish, BBQ shrimp, and lamb lollipops were pretty astonishing. I can't lie about that. The asparagus that came with the redfish was still very raw, but that wasn't too big of a deal, because the crawfish risotto was an excellent compliment to the fish. We drove in for dinner, not being from here the hubs took to TikTok for suggestions. BAD IDEA! The server took my entree order without letting me order a side, I had to tell him I would want a side to accompany my steak. He said "yes sir" and had to correct himself. I don't even look like a "trans" so maybe he was nervous. They don't have prices next to the meat options so I already know it was whatever they felt like charging. The calamari had soggy pieces as well as overcooked pieces. I couldn't take more than 2 bites. I asked for my ribeye to have a nice char on the outside and to be cooked medium and of course it was well done. When I say tough as leather, it was! I also got the crawfish Mac n cheese. It was dry and crunchy while lacking flavor. We all know how they love them some damn breadcrumbs over their pasta. IMO that was a bad cut of beef disguised as a nice ribeye ($50 my ass). Had I asked for bread I would have lapped up every last drop of sauce but I figured I had enough carbs lol. I tried the roll, which is filet, crab and asparagus with bernaise. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but you blew me away. It was thin slices of filet with chunks of crab and a little asparagus. Tried to book a table for 12 and was told I'd need to sign a large party agreement. My girlfriend who is an international event planner asked me "were you trying to book a private room?" Nope, just a table. She puts on events worldwide for large corporations and has never heard of a restaurant requiring this. I tried to reach out to the manager to see if they would be willing to offer a compromise and did not receive a response until I also posted a comment on Facebook expressing my displeasure, nothing egregious. We noticed this restaurant and saw it had a nice ambiance and made reservations. We were greeted and sat. We ordered calamari for an appetizer. It was extremely salty, but the marinara was delicious. I had the Steak Diane, and my husband ordered a filet. We shared Brussels sprouts and crawfish risotto. We waited 45 minutes for our meal. Both of our steaks were lukewarm. The risotto was dry. It was more of a jambalaya taste/texture. The Brussels were okay. Our waitress was very nice. She refilled our drinks and checked in periodically. But, other staff members delivered our meals. We had a reservation for a party of 7 on December 19th, 2023, which was LSU's graduation date. It was for 6:45 pm, and we were seated promptly. We had 4 different appetizers in total: Lamb Lollipops, Smoked Salmon Dip, Carpaccio, 2 orders of brie, and rolls. All delicious, especially the Brie, which was the best thing I ate all night!! The rolls are also delicious and a must. Also tried was the Crab and Brie Bisque, reported delicious, and the Stroubes Salad, which was big enough to be an entree, and reported delicious. The appetizers and soups/ salad course were the best part of dinner. We waited over an hour for our entrees. The manager did make an appearance to explain that we were waiting for a table of 20 to receive their entrees before ours would arrive. We got bored and uncomfortable in our seats waiting for the entrees. Notably delicious entrees were: the ribeyes and the duck. Lobster ravioli was just ok. The pasta was made with a strange sharp cheese. Beef Bourguignon reported good in flavor, but lacking in meat portion with bland mashed potatoes. The Steak Diane was not enjoyable. It arrived cold and had to be sent back for warming. The sauce was ok, and the steak was tender, but I didn't like the flavor. The 6 oz filet also arrived cooked as requested but cold. Reportedly, filet flavor and texture were good. So, 3 of 7 of us thought our dishes were great, 2 were just ok, and 2 were not good. We all had different desserts, including the Pumpkin Cheesecake, which reportedly had a strange flavor, Pecan pie, which was fresh and good, the Creme Brulee, which was runny and cold underneath a hard crust, and the Bread Pudding, which was easily the best dessert, but needed 2x that delicious sauce, and needed to be served a bit more warm. All in all, we decided that because of the special circumstances of the evening, we would likely return on a night that wasn't so busy to retry this restaurant. The waiter was an absolute pleasure. We decided on this place for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We have our 5 yr old granddaughter for the summer so were concerned about there being an issue eating somewhere nice. Even though she's beyond well behaved. They were so great, no issues at all, the staff was sooooo sweet with her!! We parked easily across the street, had reservations and seated promptly. I had the beef bourguignon (sp?) And it was delicious! It wasn't as tender as I've had other places but those heavenly mashed potatoes made up for that! Seriously, just gimme a bowl of those!! The green beans were perfectly cooked! My husband had the caesar salad, which was tasty. He also had the redfish which he said was VERY GOOD! my granddaughter had a cheeseburger with fries, she exclaimed it was almost as good as grandpas! That's saying alot! The fries were def yummy as well! We had the pineapple upside down cake with rum praline sauce, they attacked it before I could get a pic. It's served warm and ohhhhh sooooo decadent!! The wine and cocktail list is extensive, little pricey, but great selections and good quality. Our granddaughter asked when we could come back... so praise to everyone there for making this a special night! Finding a nice place to eat, that's somewhat fancy and open on sunday that won't make you take out a second mortgage AND doesn't frown on young kids is hard to find. The food was Good. Our Server, not so much. She went to get us water, which took a very long time to get. Then took our order, and we didn't see her again until after we'd eaten our appetizers, completed our entrees, and found someone else to bring us a steak knife and yet another person later to refill our water glasses. The General Manager came over and apologized, explaining that this was not the norm and that our Server had a large party on the other side of the restaurant. Our Server had informed him that she probably had not given us great service. He was very nice, comped our to go desert, as this was our Anniversary meal and apologized. Now, let's all about the Food!! We started with Lobster Fritters (From the Restaurant Week Menu) and Crawfish Beignets (From the regular Menu) and both were completely delicious. Entrees were Pork Porterhouse with Andouille Stuffing (Also From the Restaurant Week Menu) and Short Rib with bacon braised Brussel Sprouts (Regular Menu). The porterhouse was very good. The Short Rib was good. Not the best I've had, but with the sauces and sides, made for a good meal. The Banana Bread Pudding was THE BEST EVER!! (We got a piece to go)I would easily give the food here 4 Stars, along with the lovely romantic atmosphere of the restaurant itself. It's a lovely place with candles on the tables, Servers I'm bow ties, linen table clothes, dim lights, full bar, and high back booths along side tables along a long windowed Wall. But because of the service, I sadly think that 3 Stars would be more accurate. I want to believe this was not the norm, but I can only review my personal experience. I will tell you this, we will return and hopefully be able to update this review with additional Stars. ** Update: The Hubby went to the frig to get out our leftovers for the following nights dinner. We then realized that the waitress never returned our food after taking it to box up. We received a bag as we left and never thought to look inside. It turned out to be our to go bread pudding only!! Coming from a Californian (one of the various homes of overpriced meals), this place is indeed overpriced and the service does not meet the price either. Called before to see if there were any openings for the night - the hostess advised "Yes, we have availability for two. We are pretty open right now." Great, so we head on the 2 minute walk from the hotel. Get to the restaurant and "oh, no, we are all booked up for the night, but the bar is full service." (More on this later). Head to the bar for dinner. Wine bottle list has an extreme mark up. Bottle of J Lohr for $70. Order a bottle of wine and two filets. (6 oz is $30 and 9 oz is $38 - no sides). Received my steak which should have been medium rare and it came out with the horns knocked off, ass wiped, and thrown on a plate. Disappointing when paying $38 for the steak. Ordered Brussels sprouts and Gouda grits. The Brussels sprouts tasted like they came from frozen. I've never had fresh brussel sprouts taste like that, so I'm convinced they were frozen. Gouda grits were good, but quite thick/overcooked. The Cesar salad tasted like the kind you get from wal mart that comes out of the bag. Finished our meal and two of the four tables that were "booked up for the night" were still empty. All around disappointed. read more

The lamb popsicle appetizer was amazing. And the roasted Caesar salad was probably the best Caesar I've ever had. I thought the lobster pasta had an overwhelming blue cheese flavor but that's probably my fault because I just don't love blue cheese and I didn't really read the ingredients. I've been here three times. I don't live here but come to eat every time I come to town. Every time is PERFECT. I HIGHLY recommend with fried green tomato salad and if you can splurge, add a protein to it. It's absolutely amazing! My cousin always orders the bbq shrimp and she loved it. I wanted to wait a week or so to digest my experience at Stroubes. I visited them years back and had an acceptable experience. While in downtown BR for another event with the family, my sons wanted a steak experience without having to travel far across town. Recalling this restaurant, I suggested this place. We had a little wait because it didn't open until 4 PM, so we walked the downtown area, touring the Old State Capital grounds and walking the levy. We arrived to Stroubes on time for our reservation, but the doors were still locked. Waiting, we were finally allowed in by a nice maître d'. Though, when seated, our party of four only had a setting for three. No problem. Then our waiter came. He was a cordial person who asked for our drinks orders. It would have been easier for him to say what they did have as they didn't have anything standard such as vodka, OJ, root-beer, Dr Pepper and on and on. At that point, I just said, please bring anything you have; I tried the seasonal Old Fashion w/ Blantons. Pretty much the same issue was found with their main menu items. We tried the Wonton Shooters appetizer and found it wanting for the price. The truffle fries appetizer were only ok. For the main course, one of my sons wanted a steak, and he received a 16oz (0.6 kg) tough, tasteless rib-eye that I helped him cut and I tasted. The Black Truffle Lobster Mac dish was so, so, per my other son, and not worth the $42. The Chilean sea-bass I had was tasty. My wife just had the salad. The selected on menu side dishes, that were available, the portion sizes were not for family sharing. Though, the available dessert of mango crème boule and almost German chocolate cake, that we shared, was superb. Then I asked for the bill. I looked at it and showed it to my wife, who chuckled and said we will not do this place again. They charged us $5 for 2 oz small serving of A-1 steak sauce that was required to consume this ribeye. Although a great location, and the staff was nice, Stroubes is no Ruth's Chris, Ruffino's, Sullivan's, Fleming's, Morton's, a Doe's, nor even a Longhorn, all of which I(we) have frequented and don't mind paying for their level of quality. Tiny portions. Who in their right mind would think it's okay to only have 3 normal sized shrimp on an appetizer. Or the 3 baby sized lamb lollipops. It was like they cut them in half before they served them. I've never seen lamb chops that small in my life. The table sitting next to us said they are never going back. read more

This is so much more than a "Chophouse"....it shouldn't mislead people who are into eating other than meat. In fact, my wife doesn't eat meat, and she selected this restaurant based on the fish and seafood offerings. Last night, we both enjoyed our meals, and neither of us had any meat. I started with 6 charbroiled oysters @ $10, which were plump, yet slightly charred to a perfect texture, and very tasty. My wife's Stroubes salad @ $8 was full of mixed seasonal greens, and dressing on the side. My main was the special of the day, soft shelled crab, fried over crabmeat, $32. The crab had a tad too much mayonaise, but overall was very good (sorry, no photo). My wife's gumbo, $9, with both duck and crab was absolutely delicious. Not too starchy, and yet thick with flavor. Dessert was their bread pudding, which was devoured in its entirety ($7). Wines by the glass (generous pours) average $10-14. Service was attentive and professional and knowledgable. Parking is either on the street, or parking garage 1 block away. Bottom line: We would return here. read more
