I dont like giving out a 1 star rating but the service was just awful. We placed drink orders and my date got her drink but I didn't get mine. I asked 3 people for it before it was finally delivered 15 minutes later. The food came 10 minutes after that. I know it's got to be difficult to serve food in a timely manner when everyone basically orders at the same time but for the love of all things holy, it should come out somewhat warm right? My bento box wasnt good and worse yet, stone cold. My date ordered the ahi salad and it was just a vinegared pile of not good. The only thing that was descent was the chicken wings ordered with the sauce on the side. I will probably only go back to order popcorn and hopefully get my drink on time. For years I have badmouthed SMG after multiple terrible experiences in Houston. I saw them as a wanna-be Alamo Drafthouse (LOVE) and their seats were uncomfortable as hell, reminded me of my office chair! I came here during the holidays and was surprised how they built out the lobby into a restaurant with a full bar. The theater we had didn't have the office chairs (YAY), reclined, and had just the right amount of cushion. Even though they serve food and drinks, I would grab a bite to eat before hand or pay the premium for mediocre theater food. If they changed all the theater rooms to the reclining chairs, this would be 4 stars. read more

I have been here many times. Here is a recap of some of the experiences we have had here: Food: Blah. The french fries are awful. They are frozen and have a strange seasoning. The chicken tenders were ok. They were frozen but edible. The popcorn is tasty. They bring you melted butter to top the popcorn. I would be interested to try the pizza. Drinks: Expensive but good. We got adult milkshakes. The dreamcicle is really good. My husband liked the mudslide. Ticket Experience: I like that you can purchase the tickets in advance. Service at this location is ALWAYS iffy. Same staff working on Tuesday's and they're never really friendly, never knowledgeable about the menu or specials, not good service. Very mediocre. Repost: Hello, I am currently at the theater located in Dallas on Royal Lane.  My family of 3 purchased tickets online to watch Black Panther and have dinner this evening.  Upon arriving being seated, we were informed that no food orders would be taking place.  This is unacceptable to me.  I do believe we should have been informed before coming inside with a sign on the door.  We made arrangements to have our dinner here tonight and had we known this, another theater would have definately been selected.  The theater did offer popcorn and drinks but im sorry,  that's not sufficient to replace dinner for my family that we were expecting during this time frame.  On top of this, I just had my 8 years arm of the chair to fall off and the one I'm currently sitting is very loose rocking back and forth.  We come to studio movie grill quite often and this is just unacceptable. What's the smell? In theater 6 last night, and smell reminiscent of cleaning with sour rag, or urine in carpet. Not real strong, but lasted during entire show. Was noticeable when walking into room, not just where we sat. Ugh!! read more

I have been to the movies here twice recently. The first time there was sound but no picture during the previews. The second time, there was a picture, but no sound. Overall this was a pretty good experience! I like what they are doing with the place and with the renovations. The new chairs are very comfy, spacious, and they recline :)). The servers were very nice and prompt. The theatre was very clean and a perfect temperature, which is usually not the case at most movie theaters. My only complaint was how early last call was. This may be a new rule that is being implemented at all SMGs but I was unaware of this strict cut off. I personally wasn't ready to order but I had to, and I picked something I wasn't too happy about (that was my fault). I may rate this higher than others but that's partly because where I come from we don't have fancy eat-in the movies places like this. Seats were comfortable, service was prompt, and the pretzel bites w queso pretty dang amazing! Maybe it helped that the theatre was not crowded or that it was 4 pm on a weeknight. As a person who goes to movies more for the social aspect than for the movie itself, I love Studio Movie Grill. Since it's dinner and a movie all rolled into one, it's much more acceptable to talk to your companions throughout the movie. I find it much more comfortable than a regular theater. I like that they use office chairs instead of regular chairs, because the adjustable height makes it more comfortable for me, and I like being able to swivel. You never have to worry about fighting for the armrest, and since you have tables, you don't have to go all MacGyver to figure out a way to balance your food on your lap. Because of the tables and the need for servers to get around, there's ample space between rows to stretch out. I would give it a solid five stars if the food weren't so terrible and overpriced. I haven't tried anything worth trying again except for the sweet potato fries, and they're just so-so. read more

I have been here less than a few times but more than a couple. One reason is it is not very far from me and it was one of the first movie theaters around here that started serving a full sized menu with servers as well as alcohol. The food is nothing to write home about either. It would be nice if they had some healthier options available. Like some grilled chicken bites or something like that. The portions they serve are fine but I think it priced a little high for the way that it tastes. We got chips with queso/guacamole/salsa. The salsa was not good at all. I would say to skip that salsa because it tastes like tomato and onions. The guacamole was bland but it was not bad. The queso was the best of the 3. The chips were very salty when we went. It was March 13, 2016. I do like that you can press a light when you need anything and that they have servers. Our server was friendly but the service was not anything special. The movie started on time and my chair reclined just a little. I am not sure if all seats recline or not though. We got a seat which had a table between us if you want to make sure you recline. I also like the convenience of being able to buy your movie ticket online or on your smartphone and I recommend that if you are going to see a movie that is popular or if it is opening night for it because the theaters are not very large. read more

They nickel and dime you to death on food. Dressing on the side is 50 cent as is extra butter. The fries were not edible but they did replace them. If you do not like movies, feel free to enjoy a place where 1) you sit in old office chairs that are ratted, torn, and disgusting, 2) people misbehave, shout, scream, walk-in late, and interrupt the film without repercussions, and 3) you can barely see the screen due to the layout of the theaters. I had a gift card and decided to try this theater out and it was beyond a disappointment. I have never even considered walking out of a movie theater until I came here. I've had several horrible experiences here and I probably won't ever be coming back. I've been double charged, I've had food brought to us without silverware (my boyfriend had to eat with his fingers because they never returned even after we pressed the button and asked, they have messed up our order. I've had to wait in line to speak to a manager who told me they would compensate me for my troubles I just needed to email him because he didn't have time at the moment. I mean I love Studio movie grill but this location is the worst. On another note, I'm not sure if all locations changed their menu but I noticed it today at Royal that the menu is different. It is WAY over priced now. They have removed several items. They used to have a 2 for 25 but now it's 2 for 28 and they made the choices smaller. This place was great because it was reasonably priced but if this is the menu for all locations you might as well go to Look. The food is expensive there too but at least it's better. I go here quite a bit with my husband. Comfy chairs, awesome sound system, and a clear screen even from the back of the theatre are definitely what make it a good theatre. It's a good grill because it offers a lot of options and delivers pretty consistently. It's a great place to take people who like different things because they have a lot of different flavors: hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, chicken. Personally I'm addicted to their parmesan fries, we probably get these everytime we go because they're phenomenal. Skip the traditional popcorn because it's not worth the $3. It's always stale and it doesn't compare to the other foods available. I also like their pizzas which have a lot more flavor than I guessed, but they do take longer to get delivered. When it comes to alcohol I'm a huge fan of their Studio Grill Margarita, which is yummy and packs a little punch. Worth the money!! I really like it and we continue to go back because we like the food (although it's not gourmet) and we like being comfortable while we watch a movie. This theater is definitely.... unique. It's just like a college lecture hall, but enjoyable haha. I honestly didn't mind this set up. I thought the office chairs were comfy and the long table made it easy to share food. I went to a 10 pm movie and there wasn't anyone there except maybe 5 people, and I think this theater has such bad reviews that's why. Id go back because it is one of the few theaters now that shows new releases on MoviePass. I prefer a typical movie theater but I'll take what I can get haha. read more

This experience was horrible. The theater only served popcorn and drinks. We were told there was a problem in the kitchen. This is a theater that prides itself on its kitchen and food, terrible. The pre sale tickets and the high publicity of the movie should have indicated that the theater should prepare for sale outs. If I only wanted popcorn and sodas I would've went to Regal Cinemas, Cinemark, or AMC. It then took forever for us to get our popcorn and sodas. If you are only serving these items then why does it take so long to serve these. Then the popcorn wasn't even hot. My daughters chair was broken. read more

What the heck? When did the wait staff start clearing dishes into bus tubs - scraping food off, piling plates and silverware, and wadding up wrappers - IN the movie theater?!?!?! Not only was this incredibly disturbing, it made it difficult to hear dialogue in the back 1/2 of the movie and also made it tough to go to the restroom as the stairs were blocked with tubs, etc that had to cleared off for patrons to step up/down. Pretty nice-sized building. On groupon, I believe you can purchase $5 tickets. Without that coupon it's like $8 or $9. The theatre was in need of sweeping. When we went into our movie , I saw trash. The chairs are in need of cleansing. Our service light was on for a minute before we were taken care of. We didn't order food. Had one $10 drink. The menu is a tad expensive for the quality (I've eaten at the other smg). While the this location of SMG is short on charm, you get to drink beer, down a burger all while kicking back and watching a move. That's pretty cool in my book. Similar in concept as Austin's Alamo Drafthouse, you seated and roaming waiters bring you nosh and slosh. While I've been enjoying the concept since the Granada Theater on Lower Greenville, the atmosphere is lacking at this location. New construction in a large strip center, it's clean but not too cool. Wanting to grab a snack and kill some time before catching a mid afternoon flight, we popped in. I was surprised how busy they were at 2PM on a Monday but I waited in line for two tickets. You can buy on line and even reserve seats but there's an up-charge. The theater has great stadium seating so unless Yosemite Sam's in down front with his 10 gallon hat, you should be able to see the screen with no problem. The sports bar menu offers nothing outstanding but remember, you're eating in a movie. Be happy with that. There are daily specials from all you can eat pizza to discounted house wine by the glass. I just wanted to cheese fries and a beer. One down side to eating and drinking in a movie is the distractions. You obviously are trying to accomplish allot while paying attention and while the waiters try to blend in, they do get in the way. Try as they might, SMG is great for movies you're already seen or don't need to pay too much attention to. Memento is not something you want to watch for the first time here but your garden variety RomCom will fit in well. I love the concept and am pleased with what I get out of. I remember when Studio movie grill first started! I was 18 and thought it was the most amazing idea ever. Then it made me mad because I didnt think of it myself and make millions. I prefer smg over amc because tickets are cheaper and you get your own seat without sharing arm rest or breathing zone with the people next to you. Sometimes people dont shower and they just smell bad. I prefer my own seat because I dont like to touch anybody. I think it's obsurred to pay $16 for a movie ticket when it cost $8 here! read more

I went to see Breaking In. The movie started around 12:15pm it wasn't busy and our theater wasn't full so service should have been pretty quick. I will say it was clean and staff was friendly, per usual. The only thing that irritates me was my sister received her food and drink and it took forever for me to get my drink and then the movie had started before I got my food and I had to push the button for someone to come so so could inquire about my order. I ordered fish and chips & a strawberry margarita. Not hard. Should have come with my sisters pizza, if not a few minutes later. I waited about 10 minutes before I asked where my food was and it was just clearly forgotten about because a minute after the waiter left to go check on my food, he came back with my food. So it was just sitting there waiting and nobody thought to bring it. Please just be 100% even when it's not busy. I like SMG so I didn't ask to speak to the manager and I'll be back soon. read more

This location is terrible. First off, the self use ticket machines are not very user friendly. The machine kept telling me that I couldn't leave one seat empty between two people. However, I was not trying to. My friend was trying to purchase a seat next to me using another machine. It just got complicated and we had to wait in line and let a employee fix it. Secondly, this theater does not have the stadium seating at all. All of the seating is on the ground. Once the people who were sitting in front of me sat down, I could no longer see certain parts of the screen. Highly annoying. Also when customers walk by or the waiters stop to help the customers that are sitting right in front of you, just forget about seeing the screen at all!! I'm not sure why this theater was made like this in the first place. It does not allow a optimal viewing experience at all. I was highly irritated Last, the food is not very good at all. I had the cheddar bacon burger. The meat was flavorless and about three inches thick. Therefore I couldn't taste any cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce or any of the other toppings. Just a ridiculously huge Patty of non seasoned ground beef. I thought I was going to be sick. Also I thought the french fries were going to be those seasoned french fries. The brownish ones that are already seasoned before you fry them. These were just regular french fries and there was no type of salt or pepper on them. Not only that, but most of the fries were crumbs and they were way too hard and unedible to eat. The food is way too overpriced for the quality that I received. Oh yeah, and the house Margaritas on the rocks are weak. I didn't taste any alcohol. This movie experience was a complete fail. read more

One of the worst seating experiences in a long time. They threw a bunch of crappy office chairs in and called them movie theater seats. They have pairs of rows both at the same level with the front row sitting at a counter and the back row sitting at small tables. If anyone is sitting in front of you you're not going to see the bottom half of the screen. Now that the movie is over, no changing the rating. It was out of focus for the first 20 minutes, and the framing was off. At the end, the harsh lights came up immediately before the credits. Just awful read more

I love this location. I haven't gone recently because of Covid. They have always had good service, food and I like the theater itself. The managers have always been helpful and professional. Overall it's my favorite movie theater in town. It's one of the things I've missed most during this pandemic. Hopefully I'll be able to return soon. read more

The best thing I can say about this Studio Movie Grill is that the service was great. Everyone we met provided quick, friendly service. I can also say that the bathrooms were pretty clean. However, the seating leaves something to be desired. The seats were comfortable and seemed pretty clean. The issue is that not all of the rows of seats are elevated like risers, so if someone tall sits in front of you you might be screwed. I had someone kind of tall sitting diagonally in front of me and part of the screen was obstructed. If he had been directly in front of me it would have been very distracting. The drinks were cold, which is always good, but the food reminds me of cafeteria food. I ordered the spinach dip as a starter. It was good, not great. I then had chicken tenders and french fries, and honestly, I have had better from the freezer aisle at the grocery store. If I return I would probably pick a seat closer to the screen where someone is less likely to sit in front of me. I would also probably stick to drinks and appetizers. read more

Attended a Top Gun Maverick showing on June 11, and the movie became messed up 1 hour after it began. Had to go out multiple times to tell the manager. The theater does not have any technical staff onsite, and instead relies on remote tech support. They stopped the movie to fix it, and left us sitting in a dark theater for 30 minutes, before determining the digital projector could not be fixed. They then moved us into another theater to finish the movie. They said they are not refunding our money, despite the fact that they completely botched the entire experience.
