Studio Movie Grill reminds me of just how much I love Austin. The only thing SMG and Alamo Drafthouse have in common is they both serve food and alcohol. Unlike the Drafthouse, they don't show any funny old-school movie clips or crazy commercials. Just fairly standard "advertise here" and "have your next corporate meeting/holiday party here" ads. I've beent to Studio Movie Grill maybe a couple of times in the exact same location. It was neither memorable or awful as I can recall. This time I went with my boyfriend who had never been there. We were very fortunate to have free movie tickets that his sister gave to him. If you're never been to SMG. It's all about eating a decent meal while getting the entertainment that a theatre has to offer. You first buy your tickets and then you're given a menu and a buzzer. Then you walk to theatre to get seats. It's also really stinky when you walk to the theatre. It smells of feet and food - bad combination. You get to sit anywhere you want. The seating in the SMG theatre is more designed so that waiters can come and give you food. Once you know what you want, you press the buzzer button to alert a waiter to come and take your order. Food suggestions: POTATO SKINS - always has been good SPECIALS - Tuesdays they have $2 off beer and burgers Wednesday - Saturday they have an all you can eat pizza which includes mutiple pizzas you can eat from but you can't build your own. why would you if you can try as many different pizzas as you want BEEF BURGER with SWISS CHEESE AND PEPPERED BACON - comes with french fries or sweet potato fries, or fruit The burger was dry. It's only saving grace was the peppered bacon which you are charged .99 extra for GREEK Pizza was super sharp. My boyfriend said they used the wrong cheese and they should've picked a blue cheese or goat cheese to accompany the olives and tomatoes sitting on a thin crunchy crust MARGARITA Pizza was much more tasty. It had diced tomatoes and cheese Sweet potato fries were good with ketchup. The entirety of our meal was $20. Not bad considering that's all I spent. But you have to remember the only reason this was so was because of the free tickets. It was rated "#1 Best Place To Take a Date" - FAIL. It's a good idea but it's noisy because waiters are shuffling around and talking to customers and that ruins the cinematic aspects of the theatre. 3 stars because of free tickets. The concept of food and watching a movie has been around since I was a kid. I loved going to the Granada for movies and pizza night. Though I love the food they offer here at the movie grill, the theater itself feels a bit shabby. Maybe it just feels old. But sitting in office chairs for the movie is never comfortable. Trying to get up and down if you sit on the bar, it's like exercise, the wrong kind where you almost fall on your face. So I really wish they would give this place a remodel in the theaters. I know they gave it a face lift in the lobby and btw I really do miss the bar where you could wait for your movie and drink while doing so. I come here to see movies that are not action packed. I watch movies that you wouldn't mind seeing on DVD because the screens here are just normal. Maybe it's because I have experienced newer and better theaters offering the same concept, food and movie. But this place is just starting to rank as an after thought to seeing a movie, instead of the first place I would want to go. The first time I watched Fifty Shades Darker with a couple of girlfriends, back in February and had purchased your groupon of $5. Thought that was a good deal. We had pretty good seats and the food was okay. I had the chicken tenders with french fries and honey mustard sauce. I really enjoyed the movie and the non-stress of arriving early and looking for good seats. Our 2nd time here, was this past Saturday to watch Beauty & the Beast. Although I was looking forward to watching this movie, the experience was not as successful as the movie. We orders the Tex-Mex trio and got salsa, guacamole and queso for appetizers, a large popcorn, root beer and a Fosters beer. The trio was awful and the popcorn was good. I've honestly had a lot better at AMC. The salsa & guacamole did not have any flavor. Tom Thumb has better guacmole, in my opinion. The queso was something that came out of jar. The popcorn was as good as popcorn can be, served in a medium size square bowl (which they market as a large). I usually take pictures of my food, so you can see the serving size, but since their service actually sucked, I'm glad I didn't. Speaking of service, we had ordered our food before the movie started and we had not received our food, before the people in our row did (they ordered way after us). The beer had come before my soda. We had to ask for it and it took them awhile to bring it. When they brought out the food for the people sitting next to us, our appetizer had not come yet. They actually delivered it to the people sitting next to us, which by the way, I noticed that she touched the food. The servers took it back, because the lady said it was not theirs. Then they realized it was ours and delivered it. I think that it was not right and how do I know that the lady did not have some kind of disease. She touched the food & breathed on it. We asked for a refill on the root beer and they never came. We had to push the button again to have them bring us one. I'm sorry, but if you're working anywhere (whether you be a teenager or an adult), you should be able to function and provide the customer service that you were hired for. Its the responsibility of management to make sure they are trained properly. I can't stand that people give anyone a free pass on customer service. If you don't want to provide the basics, then don't work in customer service. Plain & simple. This will probably be our last time here, as the food is definitely nothing to write home about. I would eat before hand. The service needs a lot of work (please provide training to your staff). The chairs & tray-tables need a bit of re-designing (try something that has a bit more cushion, tables a little lower so it is not awkward to eat your food-the airlines tray tables are a lot better functioning). read more

Movie screen sat blank for 20 minutes after the start time. Reading this review, you may wonder why I did not give them one star. The movie itself was fine in terms of picture and sound. The service was slow, but otherwise OK. The website and kiosk purchase process was fine. And now, the chore of a negative, but constructively critical, review. Note: I submitted this same feedback to SMG via their feedback tool. I sincerely hope they get better. For years, our favorite movie theater was Studio Movie Grill - Spring Valley. We started going there shortly after it opened. It became our default theater. We actually lived closer to SMG - Royal at the time, but we were not fond of the office chair seating and the lighting was distracting during the movie. Then Alamo Drafthouse opened up. Better seats, better service, better order process, better lighting*, better menu, incredible selection of draft beers and cocktails, specialty menus for new shows, and a creative pre-show montage instead of ads before the movie. It was incredible. Now they are our default theater. * - SMG Plano uses white lights that are mounted rather high on the table, so they are always in your view; Alamo uses red lights mounted under the table. The benefits are two-fold 1) you don't see them and 2) they are less distracting (red light vs. white light or blue light). Yesterday we decided to give SMG - Plano a try. It was the worst movie experience we have had in...well, quite possibly ever. As we approached the theater, there was garbage and rubbish on the grounds. If I did not know better, I would have thought we were coming in through the back door near a dumpster. We picked up our tickets from the kiosk with no issue, so kudos to your website and kiosk. We approached our theater and it was not clear if we had somehow ended up the wrong door we had to squeeze past stacks of glasses in racks. Nope, that was the door, apparently, they just like to stack racks of glasses in the entrance for that theater. We entered the theater and were disappointed to find that we were going to be sitting in office chairs. This became worse when we arrived at our seats and had to wrestle them free, because there were too many chairs jammed into the row. We asked if the staff could resolve it and the answer was the verbal equivalent of a shrug. Every time a person next to us shifted, bump. They get up, bump. Staff walks behind us, bump. On the other side of the coin, I struggled to sit stock still so I was not bumping my neighbors. Not a very relaxing or recreational mood. I cannot imagine going back to this theater. If I were part of your leadership team, I would: - Renovate the theater to follow the example of SMG - Spring Valley - Clear up the rubbish outside of the theater and add that to the list of routine tasks for staff to execute - Send my leaders to Alamo for a few movies to get some ideas I sincerely wish every theater around me was amazing, which is why I am taking the time to provide this feedback. I hope SMG becomes a stronger competitor for our entertainment dollars. read more

We used to frequent this SMG location but I never plan to return. The last 3 experiences were just awful. - They double booked our reserved seating and put us in horrible general seating - I was served pizza with raw dough but was not able to get a server to fix the problem - I bought my tickets early online and showed up at the theater an hour before seating time to be sure we had a Group A ticket to enter the theater first. We got our ticket and waited with the crowds for them to announce for "A" to start forming a line. Nope, didn't happen. They called for every group at the same time to form a line. I really don't like Studio Movie Grill that much. The idea of a movie and dinner sounds grand at first, however, actually experiencing it is different. This movie theater is "louder" than usual, because sometimes people come to the movie late and they still need to order. Sometimes they can't see (with little tiny yellow LED-ish lights provided) so they whip out their cellphone. Movie is already starting, and they have to speak loud enough so that their waiter doesn't get it wrong. Food isn't that good either, and a bit pricey. It was really hard to eat my salad in the dark. Think about it, if you need more napkins, a refill, an extra fork or spoon, you have to make a big fuss in the middle of the movie until your waiter sees your lights blinking and comes to help you. It's just not worth it! I'd rather eat somewhere nice. You could be eating someone else's chicken tenders in the dark! read more

We have given this location way too many chances. Today was the worst, thus far. Our movie started at 7PM. We ordered our food before 7:10PM. We didn't get our food until more than one hour later- it was 8:15PM when I checked my phone. By then, we were hungry, as we hadn't eaten since leaving work. My husbands pizza was semi cold. The topping was warm (toppings were like plastic) bread cold. I ordered a starter, which came at the same time. This was the worst food ever!! Chicken was disgusting. No flavor. Very dry, like it had been re heated a few times. The menu states this. (Roasted Chicken, Corn Tortilla Chips, Jalapeno Tomato Queso, Cilantro, Pico de Gallo) See my photo below. I wish I had taken a pic of my husbands food. It looked like plastic. We didn't want to miss the movie, so we decided to wait to complain. By the time our movie was up, it was busy. Our neighbors got their appetizers, dinner and dessert before we got our food!!! We complained to the waiters, but not much was done. The food is okay but seating is an issue. They tend to have the seats too close together and some of them are too close to the screen. It's distracting to have people walking in front of the screen waiting on tables every few minutes. It's overpriced stuff you could get at an american food chain. Gross popcorn. But they show great films, I'd just rather go to a regular theatre for the experience unless it's one that has been out a long time. read more

First let me get the good out-of-the-way the movie was good (Antman) and the brownie ice cream sundae was fantastic. The overall menu looked good as well. Now for my thoughts on the theater. I thought this would be more like Alamo Drafthouse. The theory is there but what the heck is up with the design of the theater? Office chairs just jammed tightly into rows? I might as well watch a movie at my work desk. Anytime someone next you moved you feel it as they smash the arms of your chair. Also the 3D glasses were all scratched up, time to order some new ones. I checked out studio movie grill on Saturday night and thought it was pretty decent. I wasn't hungry so I didn't try any food, but I liked that it was there if I got hungry - I liked that I could drink WINE and never had to get up to get anything I needed during the movie. The chairs were decent, but it would be better if they could find a more comfortable solution that still allowed you access to a surface to set your food and drink on. Overall - I'll probably check this out again. Bought discounts from Groupon for admission + drink for $5, so I was like duh, why not? The BF and I wanted to watch J Edgar on a Friday night, and since it had been out for 3 weeks already, we figured it wouldn't be SUPER packed.....false. It sold out 5 minutes before the showing, and we had to leave since the next showtime was in 3 hrs (fail). We came back for the 10:05pm show, and the theater was probably half full. I've never been to a SMG, so I was kind of excited for the whole experience. The waiter was really friendly and the service was pretty fast. The seats kind of suck, and I was moving around the entire time trying to get comfortable. Don't get the queso (chips are lame, and the queso was definitely pumped from a can), but the fries (and sweet potato fries) were delicious. I ordered the Mega-something burger (cold bacon, no mayo) and the BF ordered the BBQ burger w/o sauce (no mayo again??). Food was okay, but it's SO DIFFICULT eating in the dark. How do people do it without making a mess?? The bill came out to $35 even with our Groupon discount, and I can't imagine coming back to eat more mediocre food in the dark. read more

Last night, me and a group of 4 went to watch Star Wars. The seats are definitely more comfortable than in the past, but it was still quite uncomfortable. The fact that you cannot recline and the seats may be pushing your back forward if not leaning back enough made the watching experience very uncomfortable. When the waiter came and took our order 10 minutes before the movie, he had to retake our order THREE times. His machine was not reading my boyfriend's credit card and he was not sure what to do. He went to talk to his supervisor and did not come back until the movie started. He was still taking our order during the trailers. After the third time, he told us that he would just put in our order and would ask for our payment during the movie. 15 minutes after the movie had started, we received our drinks. After receiving our drinks, another waiter approached us with the same drinks and we had to tell him we had already received our drinks. He seemed very confused. A minute later, another waitress came with the same drinks. Again, we had to tell her we had already received our drinks. Ten minutes later, ANOTHER waiter came to us with just a water. We took it. 30 minutes into the movie and we finally get our food. Everyone around us had already received their food and they had ordered after us. We seemed to be the last people to get our order. Our waiter kept apologizing saying there was a "backup in the kitchen". But how could that be possible if everyone else had gotten their orders? The food was mediocre at best. The pasta I had ordered was not even warm. It was cold pasta. Near halfway through the movie, we received our check. $92.44. I was quite surprised that we did not receive at least a bit of a discount since we had experience all the trouble during and before the movie. Then, 10 minutes later, another waitress comes to us giving us another check. She asked us if we were paying in cash, and we told her we were paying with a card. She seemed confused and then proceeded to ask the younger people in the group if that was their check. We had to explain to her the situation and that our waiter may have put in our order three times because he could not get the machine to work. The waitress left. Another 10 minutes later, the same waitress comes back to us and asks if we lost our card. We did not, so she proceeded to ask everyone else in the theater. We could not enjoy the movie due to all this. We will not be coming back and I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I was surprisingly disappointed with this location. The area is so nice, but the SMG itself not so much. Lots of construction going on, so finding parking and the front door is a little maddening. The staff on the other hand was incredibly nice! My friend and I went for a movie premier event and the staff went out of their way to be attentive and nice about everything. They forgot our starter, so we got that after the meal came out but the staff was nice about it and apologized. The food was so so. I did the 2 for $25.00, the options on the menu for it was basic,I wish I had more to choose from. I got the chicken strips. They are your average frozen chicken strips. They honey mustard was really good though! My friend go the BBQ burger option. It looked good! We shared the chicken nachos. They were decent. The renovations have made a huge difference. I really like the new seating - especially the reclining ones in the front. Overall, I would come back, especially with kids. Here are a few things I noted thought that could use improvement: This happened several times throughout the movie - "no one here ordered this? oops, wrong theater" The popcorn comes without butter by default - I kind of liked that, but my kid was disappointed so don't forget to ask if you wanted. For some reason, the coconut chicken fingers I really enjoyed at the Northwest Highway location did not taste as good here. The 3D glasses are reused with no sign of cleaning in between people - they're smudged and warped. At best, they just don't work too well. I would only come here for 2D in the future. read more

For a movie theatre experience, it's good and what you would expect. Fair prices, comparable to others. Show the box office movies and have lots of times. The best part is its usually not as crowded as the ones in the mall and not overrun by teenagers. This location in Plano was super crowded, probably because there's not a lot of other theaters nearby and it's in a suburb on a Saturday night when we went which is basically date night for parents who want a dinner/movie and want it in less than 3 hours to pay the sitter. This location is comparable to other studio movie grills as far as the physical attributes and theatre quality. My biggest plus to any location is when you buy tickets online, you can reserve which seat you sit in. Definitely a huge bonus for new releases or popular show times like 7 pm. Chairs and tables are clean and comfy. No complaints. So I give it 3 stars because the food is so bad. Such a let down. Other locations Ive been to are not this poor. Maybe I should have lower expectations, but I'm trying to be fair compared to other locations. The other reviewers recommended to stick to the bar type foods like burgers and you're good. So I got pizza and it was pathetic. No sauce, tasted like cardboard with stale vegetables and room temp cheese. Came out to the table cold and not even cut into slices. I was very disappointed. Especially considering it was $10.50. The wine ($8) and fresh pre-cut fruit side ($4) I got we're the best thing about my meal ...but how could they mess those up? My date got crab cakes and said they "weren't bad." Which to me, also means they "weren't good." I was headed to the nearest restaurant after our movie let out because I was starving. So if you're going expecting to eat a average quality dinner and see a movie, lower your expectations on the dinner part and you're probably fine. Date night so we got there early and sat at the bar for a drink. We watched while they put the margarita pitcher on the floor and filled it with the same water spout that they had just wiped down with a rag used to wipe up a spill on the floor. In the theater I ordered the coconut chicken strips which actually weren't horrible. My husband got a plain pepperoni pizza and I joked that it tasted like my elementary school pizza. He said no way, cafeteria pizza is way better. And it was true. It's hard to mess up pepperoni pizza but this one did it - it was gross. Under cooked and horribly bland. The absolute worst movie theater I have been to. I don't like to write bad reviews but I felt the need that I should on this one. My boyfriend and I went to the movies three days ago, we ordered the vegan burgers it took almost an hour to get our food. When I food came I took a bite out of my boyfriends burger and there was a long piece of blonde hair in my mouth that was ongoing. I was so disgusted as well as pissed off because it took forever to get our food and then we had hair in our food. They took the meal off but still had us pay for a whole meal after it took so long to get our food, I called corporate and did not get a response from anyone about the issue. Saying all that to say this, "don't waste your time going there ". What a disaster. Horrible service. read more

Movie started at 11:15 at night. Went into the theater at 11:10 and it was dirty. Waited for someone to come clean the theater and no one came. At 11:16, which is now. They are cleaning the theater while the studio movie grill add is going on. Absolutely horrible. How can they say, "take care of your servers" when the service is so terrible. After the fourth terrible experience I've had here (clearly, I'm the fool for coming back), I decided to take time to write a review. These people CANNOT get it together. Honestly, the food is fine. Not great but fine. However, the service is beyond terrible. I'll give you a recap of our last few visits here: 1) After repeated reminders, I never got my drink. However, they didn't forget to put it on the bill. 2) My friend's son never received his meal. Also, after spending the entire movie with the distraction of having to remind them and beg them for the food. 3) My husband and son went to see the Star Wars movie and received someone else's bill. It took them a LONG time to get the accurate bill. In the middle of it all, another customer yells at the server because their meal was also messed up. She came back to my husband with the bill and was crying because she had been yelled at by so many angry customers. 4) TONIGHT, my little girl ordered pizza. Our entire group- our family and friends- had received and eaten our food. Yet, my daughter still not received her food after multiple requests by me regarding it's status. She finally received some Mac and cheese (she ordered pizza) when I walked out in the middle of the movie to find someone to help us. Then, my bill was incorrect so the server sat there and talked to me to figure it out-- all the while, I was once again missing the movie. I highly recommend not going here. I spent $40ish on movie tickets for me and my 3 children and $60ish on food-- yet I missed half the movie dealing with the issues. Don't waste your money! I actually feel for the servers. I don't think it's their incompetency. I believe that SMG has an inefficient, broken system. Why else would there be issues EVERY time we go? What a waste. read more

I selected 'Two Stars' because I can't get past the poor customer service, and overall experience. The recent renovations have made a significant difference, but our overall experience was disappointing. After returning for a third visit since the renovations, we continued to experience poor customer service, cold food that was returned and served cold a second time, delayed response times, inaccurate orders, and then we were double charged in error. Although this may seem menial, it took away from the overall experience. Although my favorite is the Coconut Chicken Tenders, the food selections are "okay". I submitted an email to SMG regarding my concern on previous visits, but received what I consider a "generic response", so it appears that SMG doesn't care about their customer's experiences, so I don't believe we will return since there are so many other choices for theaters such as Alamo Draft House or similar. read more

My wife and I frequent the movies often so we were thrilled to learn that they were renovating the movie grill near our home. Upon arrival we were impressed. The renovations were modern and sharp. We purchased our ticket and then headed to the theater as the movie was set to start in 10 minutes and we love the previews. Things were still looking promising upon entering the theater. The seats were plush and comfortable and the serving tray was very easy to use and sleek. However things headed down hill and fast from there. My wife went to the bathroom prior to the movie and there was a absolutely no toilet paper in the women's bathroom. That was a big red flag. We pushed the button to request a menu but no one every responded for a good 10 minutes. So prior to that we walked to grab some ourselves. The menus were sticky and extremely dirty. However We tried to stay optimistic and ordered our food and drinks. The food took about 15 minutes and was terrible. I ordered pizza and my wife got the coconut chicken. Also the service is awful. I tried to keep a open mind considering we were at a movie theater and not a 5 star restaurant. However it is quite annoying when your trying to watch a movie and the wait service is giving everyone in the theater the wrong food, bills, etc... Hopefully they can turn things around here because the layout and decor is beautiful. Too bad I can't say the same for the service and food. read more

My last time [tonight] was my last time. I refuse to spend my hard earned money at this place any longer. I'm going to take you through the my journey, the one I wish I hadn't had to take. Ugh. I arrive at the theater right before 6pm to grab seats for my significant other, big sister, and I. Now, I called before I ventured out because, why make a blank trip, right? The young lady over the phone told me that since my Groupon passes had expired, they could scan them there and I would have to pay the difference. I had 3 and today is Tuesday, so I should break even--or so I thought. I walk in and there was a couple ahead of me and a young lady took them over to the side to scan their tickets. No big deal. Next is my turn...or you would think. I'm standing there in the line and three other people--a guy with a blue shirt, an African American guy with a white shirt, and another guy with a black shirt on. The guy with the blue shirt and the guy with the white shirt both look up at me and then went back to what they were doing, which with no other patrons in line, wasn't much. About 5 minutes into me standing there, another guy walks in--A Caucasian gentleman. They ALL acknowledge him, but I'm left there standing like a complete imbecile. Since they acknowledged him, I allowed him to go first, after all they did ask if they could help him; they just looked at me like I was stupid. The gentleman who came in after me got his ticket and went on about his merry way. But this time, the young lady was done with the couple and SHE asked me how she could help me. I was beyond livid, but it didn't show. I guess I was too busy listening to the African American gentleman give some passes to the guy in the blue shirt and tell him to "Give these comps to my sister when she gets here." Hmmmm, so you can print out free tickets for your family, but you can't help me? Got it! So I explain to the young lady what the problem was and she took the groupons and scanned them and they didn't work. Then she tried them online (like I did before I got there) and that didn't work either. When she exhausted all efforts, she called for a manager. Not once. Not twice, but on the third time, the manager came and guess who it was... Mr. Black Shirt. He walked up and his face showed his disposition which wasn't sunny. The young lady explained the situation to him and he said, "Oh" and proceeded to type some things and scan a few things. He then tells me that out of the three groupons that expired, two of them had been redeemed and he gave the time and date. I was a bit puzzled because I thought when they were redeemed, the ticket taker or whoever is supposed to mark that. He affirmed what I stated and said the person didn't do it for whatever reason. I stood there asking myself in my head, "So your employee didn't do their job and that's my fault...? OK!" One of the expired passes "worked" and he told me that he could "give me that one" but I would have to pay for the other two. I stood there a second trying to process how he could give me something that I already paid for. I also made sure to look in his eyes and make sure I smiled because I didn't want the Angry Black Man stereotype to come into play. I politely paid for the other two seats and went on about my way as the movie didn't start for another hour or so. I went home, about two and a half miles away, and got dressed to come back and meet my people. We all get there on time and are ushered into the theater. Cool. My sister sits down and orders Nachos and a water. I order a Burger and Fries:no lettuce, no tomato with mustard and mayo as well as a Pepsi. My boo ordered a quesadilla and a Pepsi. By the third preview, my sister has her nachos, but she didn't start to eat them because my boo had a side of sour cream that she was waiting on. 20 minutes into the movie, no Pepsi for either of us. People around us who ordered after us, came in after us, EVEN THE African American guy's sister (YES, I MADE SURE TO KNOW WHO SHE WAS AND HAVE A FULL DESCRIPTION IF NEEDED BECAUSE SHE SAT IN THE SEAT NEXT TO MY SISTER) got food for her and her guests before we did, so by now I'm really hot. I timed it--35 minutes into the movie, the server brings us our food, but no drinks. He leaves and comes back about 5 minutes later with the drinks. Soon after he leaves, I bite into my burger and notice that the condiments that I asked for weren't included...so I'm sitting here eating a dry-ass burger after waiting through most of the movie for it. This was all to kick off the celebration for my birthday, by the way, but after tonight, SMG and their discourteous staff will never see a dime of my money again. As much as I hate AMC, I'll go there or Cinemark before I ever visit this place again. read more

Particularly after having a bad experience at AMC Stonebriar last night, I feel like I should give a shout out to this Studio Movie Grill for being consistently good. The food is always tasty and the drinks are good. Both are a little pricey, but that's understandable given the convenience. The theater is clean, and the reclining seats are comfy. On this particular occasion, I had only beer and a shake, having already eaten. Even so, service was quick and friendly, and a second server checked on me to make sure that my order had been taken. read more

I enjoy the Studio Movie Grill and have been to this location dozens of times over the last few years. SMG Plano is located off Park just east of Preston in a bustling shopping complex. It shares a parking lot with Blue Goose, a sushi place, a burger place, and other restaurants. The food is your standard American bar food ranging from salads, to burgers, to pizzas, chicken tenders, and various appetizers. I do like their pick 3 appetizers and will usually stick to the quesadillas, chicken tenders, and potato skins. However, when I really feel like splurging on calories, I'll get the coconut chicken tenders. One thing I do have to comment on is the smell of this place and this is something I noticed in the now-closed Addison location. Quite frankly it reeks, as if there were too many post-highschool-footbal-game gatherings in this location. Other than that, the experience is decent as is the service. And considering you're killing 2 birds with 1 stone, you can't beat the overall convenience of the place. read more

I know we all sound like spoiled first worlders, but we pay extra for the service and atmosphere (and book online/pick seats always a good decision). I did like plenty of leg room and not whining at all about the lack of tables/counters. Bathrooms are very clean and menu fairly reasonable. --------------------- Cons, since they just redid the theater it was odd to hear Pirates of C. next to our Cars 3 movie and dents in the screen (theater 7 if the management is reading) It was a Sunday morning so its not like its going to be packed but service should still be prompt. Apologies that we weren't in the crowded theaters that you were busting tail in. I empathize, I've worked bar and served. Nobody likes Sunday shifts. Or the slow sections. The first snacks they didn't provide utensils unless I used a call button. Its like just after open ...10am and coffee tasted like old weak hospital vending machine. There was no check back after even 20minutes, so I bused my own items to their side cart. Tried to order something else because the solo sabers were just this small pancake sausage and mostly fruit..hit call button and it was like good while for them to show up again. As folks have mentioned before me perhaps they hire new grads that are getting feet wet with their first customer service job and but your business will suffer sales if they don't do check backs mid meal or at least bus it as you would in a restaurant. I don't go to the movie theater very often, b/c I hate dealing with huge crowds and tons of people while watching a movie. The few times that I do go, I sometimes choose Studio Movie Grill b/c of their seating arrangements and food. Now the food isn't spectacular, but you can't expect much. It's your typical bar fare such as sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and other appetizers. I've tried the pizza, coconut tenders, hot wings, sweet potato fries, and wraps. All have tasted great, not overly greasy. I enjoy the luxury of having someone refill your drink the middle of the movie. You're not locked down into a seat too. They have well cushioned office chairs there, which you can roll around in. The seating is arranged well, to where you never have anyone in your line of sight with the movie. read more

Dinner & a movie--an American classic. I've been to Studio Movie Grill many times, so I'm going to generalize a bit. You can make your dining experience go one of two ways--typical American food, or a little bit classier. If you want to go the typical American route, the food is pretty good. They cover your basics--pizzas, burgers, sandwhiches-- but they don't make everything overly greasy like many places. I have tried 3 of their appetizers--cheese fries, chicken nachos, spinach artichoke dip--all were good. My boyfriend and I were pleasantly surprised with their pizzas--not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination--but good nonetheless. If you love mushrooms, I highly recommend the Mushroom, Onion, & Swiss chicken sandwhich. It comes loaded with sauteed mushrooms and onions and is covered in melting cheese. Also, their fries pretty much come with everything and are quite addicting. If you want to go the slightly classier route, I was quite impressed with their Fruit & Cheese appetizer--it is boursin cheese with crackers, grapes, and strawberries. I love that their newly updated beverage menu offers Coppola wines--one of my favorite brands. For an entree, the Margarita Pizza is great--covered in juicy Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, plenty of Monterey Jack cheese and herb-induced olive oil. Like I said, they have a newly updated beverage menu--this now includes a full bar--I know a lot of the options are new, but I specifically noticed that they now offer Grey Goose. Their wine list is now expanded, as is their beer list and specialty drink list. The one major drawback, which I just recently noticed, is that it is SO loud. The further back you sit, the worse it gets, so I suggest you sit toward the middle or front. You can hear people in the kitchen barking orders every time the doors open. It is really distracting. Other than that, it is a good experience--pretty good food, great drinks, and great service. There is nothing quite like seeing a comedy after drinking a pitcher of beer. I think a lot of these reviews are pre-makeover. After the remodel, the restrooms are much better and the lobby and such make more sense. I have noticed the smell that others mention, and I think its a factor of there being a bar near most of the entrances. This has been rather mitigated with the remodel, but there is still some typical bar smell when walking into a theatre. Once you're past there, the smell goes away. The food is pretty good, I actually occasionally crave the coconut chicken tenders. The burgers are quality (but well done) and I like their pizza. Their fries are also really good. I wouldn't go here just for the food, but its much better than I expected. The prices have gone up a little lately, but nothing too far out of line. read more

The concept is great but I'm not a big fan. It is pretty cool to be able to eat real food while watching a movie, but that also comes with some drawbacks. I like total silence during a movie and you can forget that here. With people eating and chatting with the waitstaff when they need something, there will be constant whispering and some type of noise throughout the movie. Also, I'm more of a popcorn person. I like keeping my eyes fixated on the screen while munching on my popcorn. I feel like I'm missing a crucial part of the movie every time I look down to get some food. I can see how some would enjoy eating/drinking (adult beverages) during a movie but it's just not for me. read more

My family and I have been watching movies at SMG for many, many years and typically enjoy the experience. Unfortunately, today was different. The theatre seemed clean and staff was friendly, but we ordered before the movie started (limited menu) and we didn't get our entrees for at least 25+ minutes, and our kid's chicken entrees were cold when they finally arrived. Also, our popcorn (ordered as part of the 2x $28) didn't arrive for at least another 10 minutes AFTER the entrees. Then there was the issue with the drinks..... they arrived just AFTER the popcorn (which was after our entrees, about 35 minutes after we originally ordered) and our kid's soft drinks were watered down! And the last straw was my wife's Bloody Mary arrived about 5 minutes before the end of the movie. We declined it at that point, but when we were presented the check, it still had the Bloody Mary on it, which took another 10 minutes to fix after the movie ended. Two stars for the effort of the wait staff and my wife's and my salads turned out pretty good. We understand the ramping up after Covid, but seems our experience today was way worse than what should be expected. Thanks SMG! We MAY see you in a few months! read more
