I've been pretty inactive on Yelp recently... but I really, really want Studio 101 to stick around, so I feel compelled to write! I'll keep it brief: - Taylor has now given me 3 FANTASTIC haircuts. I have super-thick, wavy, shoulder-length hair that I typically blow-dry straight, and her layering process takes the weight out without making me look like Carol Brady. - Lovely ambiance and great customer service. I am always offered a drink when I arrive. Yesterday I had just sloshed through 5 minutes of ice puddles and my boots had soaked through, and the person at the front very kindly offered to put them next to the space heater for the duration of my haircut. I have stick straight hair that I've always worn long. I was dreaming of having a trendy pixie or bob. I heard of Kristen through word of mouth and she gave me a quick consult. I was so clueless about what I actually wanted and she helped give me ideas based on current trends and my face shape. The very next day after my consult with her I walked out with an amazing pixie cut and I feel like a whole new person. Taylor is the only person I trust with my hair. She has been my stylist for years and I'd rather go without than go to someone else. In fact, i drive almost two hours just to tap her talents. There's no denying this place is gorgeous. Hardwood floors, chandeliers, and exposed brick. The woman at the front offered me a drink right when I came in, which was very nice. Unfortunately, the job of making my coffee got passed around and it didn't arrive until I was getting my hair cut - no time to drink it. Taylor cut my hair. She was great; very friendly and understood immediately what I was looking for. I would definitely recommend her to others. I love my hair. However, their robes are awful. It did not cover my collar in the back or front, so I left with small pieces of hair all over my sweater. Taylor kindly brought me a lint roller and apologized. Love my haircut, but this place needs better robes ASAP. read more

This place is fantastic. Super friendly staff and Taylor gave me the BEST haircut I have ever had. Seriously. The best. I've bounced around from salon to salon for the past seven years and have never been very happy with any of them. I'm so happy to have finally found a great place right in downtown. I hated the way that my hair had been highlighted previously at another salon. Taylor knew just how to fix it AND how to give me the perfect cut and even explained how to blow dry my hair at home correctly. Be warned... it's not cheap, but it's well worth it. My husband and my two toddler sons got their hair cut here last weekend. They all left looking amazing. It was my 3 year olds first short hair cut so I let them do my youngest and my husband first to see the results. They were great. I usually hate his haircuts but they understood exactly what we wanted. They made us so comfortable and let my sons eat our take out from the grange while they waited even giving us real plates and silverware. They were so sweet to my sons which made for better haircuts as they sat still for the stylists. They also were not angry when they pranced about the salon after their cuts. My stylist of many years recently decided to take her talents southeast to Studio 101; (been missing her ever since); but if this studio hired her, I know they know talent. I didn't need to have to go shopping around for a good stylist because I found Kristen T. before the rest of Western Mass did. Now that she is re-located and has and at the moment an empty client book; if your on the lookout for a new stylist, great conversation, and an fresh perspective on how to achieve a certain look, I highly recommend Kristen as a stylist and Studio 101 for acquiring such a great talent. read more

First of all, this salon is way over priced. They charge over $200 for a cut (which was more like a trim) and a root color. I have been there for a cut, root color, and highlight and have been charged over $300. The prices on their website are not accurate. I have never paid less than 200 every time I have been. I actually wouldn't even mind paying high prices if the quality of work was there. My haircut was uneven the last couple of times and I had to go to another salon to fix it. the reviews on here are obviously from friends of theirs. The thing that really upsets me is they are charging such high prices but you don't even get the attention of the hairdresser one on one. They are doing more than one client at a time. One time an assistant blew dry my hair and it was plastered to my head. Did they take any money off the bill? NOOOOO!!!! read more

I got a fabulous haircut from Taylor. She did a really thorough job and styled it beautifully. The place is very cute and played great music. The staff were all so nice, and since I'm from out of town, they gave me recommendations of great bars and such in the area. Taylor is wonderful! Everyone loves the feeling of leaving the salon rocking mega shine/volume/color, whatever...but a few days later you're wishing it looked like the day you had it done, well Taylor seems legitimately interested in not just giving you hair you'll love but teaching you how to love it everyday! Studio 101 is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! From the beautiful hardwood floors and the natural stone elements (complete with waterfall!) to the elegant chandeliers and ever-changing display of art work from local artists, this salon is so chic. Kristen is the best! She is so skilled and thorough. She made me feel so informed about what she thought I needed and I love the results. Not to mention her sweet personality and absolute professionalism. She chatted with me just enough to make me feel totally comfortable, but not so much that I felt like she wasn't concentrating on making my hair look great! The service at this place is exceptional, the atmosphere is clean and sophisticated. I went yesterday, and the quality of the work was great, the service was wonderful from the front desk staff and my stylist. I've gone before and came out with my hair looking beautiful, but this time I wasn't so pleased. My hair was already highlighted but grown out several inches and I just wanted some blonde highlights. I said that I liked a little bit of brown showing but ended up with what seems to be the front portions of my hair strictly blonde. I like how it mixes with brown and you can't see any of that. I wasn't told the price until after the services were done and yes I had gone before but it was 3 years ago, so I couldn't remember what they were. I also asked before anything was done but didn't get an answer until she was done. I prob would not have gotten one of the services because I spent over what I had budgeted. I feel like if I had to pay more than a normal salon I should have gotten what I asked for, highlights with some brown showing through. After seeing my hair in the daylight it's so overwhelming even after low lights were put in to calm the bright blonde down after it was first done and it's still very overwhelming. And if I wait a week or so I'll be dishing out even more money for getting too much of what I was asking for. I've honestly stayed away from mirrors all day because I don't even want to look at it. For a cut, color and few highlights....287 BUCKS!!!!! I didn't even get a glass of champagne or a foot rub with that!!!!! Such a rip off! And yes I had Kristen like everyone else, she was tag teaming between me and another client. Doing the two of us at once! Thats worth 300 bucks, I really felt special...(sarcasm)... And she was constantly trying to sell some product from pastes to oils which I don't use, and told her more then once. I have long layered hair...I'm not going to put oil or paste in it. Frankly I wasn't impressed, and I was there for 3 HOURS!!!! I was exhausted! I told my sitter I'd be less then a couple hours!! Not worth it, I think I paid for there chandelier....my girlfriends have been laughing it up about this ridiculous 300 dollar haircut, and I'm the butt of the rip off jokes...not cool. Not a great first impression. I was there a couple weeks ago, I'm STILL debating calling the manager to ask WTF I paid for, cause I'm pretty sure I could have spent that money elsewhere...I only went here because my old hair salon is 45 min away and my fav stylist had a baby and wont be going back....back on the hunt for a decent salon... read more

Kristen is amazing! You can give her a general idea and it comes out beyond fantastic, or you can give her something specific and she gives you exactly what you want. I always want low maintenance hair and she's never tried to talk me out if it, she listens to me which not every stylist has done in the past. She works with me and it's always fabulous! Although I'm not typically one to review, I absolutely had to join in on the many raving reviews about this place. I booked a last minute consultation with Kristen the week of an important event, and was immediately aware of how understanding and knowledgeable she was about what I wanted with my hair! Though she originally did not have any appointments available in the time frame I needed, she assured me that she would let me know if any cancellations occurred/any appointments became available, and that she would do her best to get me in before my event. Thankfully, a cancellation did occur so she was able to squeeze me in the morning of my event and worked at rapid speed to do all that I wanted done with my hair (major cut, highlights/balayage, and style) in the window of time that I had available. The salon is beautiful, the atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and they really take care to do the little things (offer you something to drink, put you in a chair that reclines to have your hair washed) to make the experience even better. Kristen's assistant, Tristan, helped out a great deal with my appointment, and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and great with my hair as well. I am moving out of town, but will likely return here to have my hair done as they really are the best! read more

I absolutely love Studio 101! It is such a beautiful, inviting space, and every member of the staff is pleasant and professional. I have seen both Kristen and Katie many times and I always LOVE my results. They always greet my by name, offer me a beverage as soon as I sit down, and make sure i'm comfortable the whole time. During my last visit I got a deep conditioning treatment and while it was sitting on my hair the assistant put a warm lavender scented towel over my eyes, it was amazing. This is a truly professional studio! A rare find! I had been trekking to Manhattan to my old salon of many years as I could find nothing comparable to Oscar Blondi locally. Kristin at 101 is epic. She manages to make my hair look fabulous even as we consult! Then she works magic on the actual color and cut. Kristen listens well and she knows her craft which is a perfect pairing for success every visit. Kristin is always consistent so I know I will walk out happy. A bonus is her ability to introduce change. I have a consistent look but Kristin mixes things up with nuanced color, highlight or cut changes that keep things fresh. So we move with moods and seasons. Outstanding! Most recently Kristin managed to prepare my hair for a 2 month european adventure. Week 7 was important business in Tuscany and my hair still looked amazing, both cut and color! Unbelievable but true! I went to studio 101 last night for the first time and my first impression was how AMAZING the studio looked. It was so beautiful inside, exposed brick and elegant chandeliers made this studio stand out from anywhere else I had gone in the past. Greta did a copper red into blonde Bayagage with a rose gold glaze over it, I really wish I had a picture that would do it justice, but the coloring is amazing! I go to Lori for anytime I need a great blow out...she listens to me and is always patient to reach my vision of style. She is great! And I know I can be difficult at times but Lori is the most patient with all my requests (volume..lots and lots of volume, waves, not curls, more volume) she takes her time and is very sweet to always strive to make sure I am satisfied with the end result.
