Super neat and fun way to elevate your ice cream experience! There's lots of fun flavors to choose from or you can build your own! I thought it was also nice that they had dietary restriction friendly options for those who are keto, gluten free, or vegan. I actually ended up trying one of the sugar free options because the flavors sounded really yummy! I wasn't in the mood for a heavy loaded up cup, but those looked incredible too. I stopped by on a late Saturday afternoon and the space was pretty quiet and chill. The staff members were so incredibly kind and helpful when I was making my decision. They also made it really easy to transport back home. I ended up going with the sugar free butter toffee. This was the first time I've seen sf options at an ice cream shop and unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. For the most part my experience with sugar free options has been great, but this was completely devoid of any flavor. I'm almost wondering if the sf flavors are a gimmick to make you feel like you're choosing, when in actuality they just whip up cold milk. Part of the experience is they make the ice cream in front of you, but aside from adding a little stevia I'm not sure what all went into my ice cream. When I got home and tried a scoop it just tasted like whole milk. I was super disappointed because I got a large! I'm torn between giving the sf option another shot or just writing it off forever. It was my first time trying Sub Zero, so I'm sad this was my first impression. Besides the flavorless taste, the texture is fun and almost reminds me a little of dippin dots. Overall, torn on my decision to try this place again or not. There's so many good dessert options around, so I guess we'll see. An interesting concept that works. 3.8 stars, is that a thing? LOL This location is pretty cool. Nice layout and the ambiance is relaxed and chill. (Gotta use "chill" and "cool" when talking about an ice cream place, right?) Just by the entrance and under the stair case is a comfy cubby with two or three high rise tables and chairs. A cozy place to eat your ice cream with a nice window view of the entryway and the street. Then there is the upstairs. You go up a long spiral staircase (there's a landing halfway up) to go to the upper room. Pretty cool. Good view of the Provo Temple across the street. Fun place to eat your ice cream. The employee was not only friendly but you could tell she enjoyed her job. She had fun every time she had to make the ice cream. She told you all about it, too. So on the to ice cream. I had a mix in from the menu, Key Lime pie. Lime-flavored ice cream with bits of cheesecake and something else. It was OK, but I bordered on not liking it. It didn't remind of Key lime pie. But the texture was dense. That's what they are proud of. This process does not stir air into the mixture so it is much more dense than regular ice cream. And not only that, you get a lot of it. The small size cup is really huge! I'm not a fan of the texture. I like a good creamy, smooth ice cream. And while it makes you feel like you are getting more for your money, while not bad, the experience is not a good as a creamy ice cream or gelato. It's ice cream. And it's dense. Very dense. Still Ice cream, though, but very dense. It's not bad. Just not my jam. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. These people were incredible. I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying the staff weren't nice, but I'm wondering what they are talking about. Maybe, just be nice to the staff and not demanding? A little kindness goes a long way... I mistakenly drove to this location earlier than they opened to meet my sister here. My sister was smart enough to check the hours and call ahead, and they told her they would let us enter before they officially opened. We probably went in just after 11am even though they don't open til noon. That was very nice of them to accommodate our meetup, and they were very easygoing about it, saying they had to work on opening the shop for the day anyways. The owner was there too, so that tells me he's involved and invested in how his location does. That's nice to know because, so often, business owners don't really know the day-to-day operations, but this owner took the time to be with his staff on the front line. He made me a delicious waffle! It had a coconut maple syrup and lots of berries on it. The other staff made some oatmilk-based ice cream cake cups for me because I'm lactose intolerant. They were the magnetic mint cake cups with Andes, Oreos, mint ice cream, and chocolate cake. That was extra work on their part because those are made in batches. I told them if no one goes to buy the other vegan cups, I'm coming back for them! There were several dietary restrictions among our group of 5, but they listened to them all. Why would anyone trash this staff, who clearly did everything to be service oriented? What a great business. This place deserves your business. It has earned our repeated business. This is definitely a novelty place for ice cream, but it was a fun stop - right in the middle of downtown Provo. I tried the Bernoulli Brulee and enjoyed it. It is over $7 for a small cup, but part of the fun is watching them make it. You can feel the cold nitrogen and watch as the ice cream "comes to life" in seconds. They have a little upstairs nook for dine-in, which was a cool little loft area. I would go back and try some other items for sure. read more

Customer service was atrocious, my daughter arrived just after 8pm on 10/8/2025, the young man behind the counter stood back looked liked he was not interested in serving us, had to tell twice that we wanted 2 strawberry shakes. In the process of him placing the shakes on the countertop and my daughter reaching for them, one of the shaked fell off, I managed to trap the shake against the glass but was upside down and in the process lost around 1/3 of contents down the glass and onto the counter and floor. I asked for a cloth to help to clean up and he informed that there was none. My daughter and I used up 40-60 napkins to clean up as best we with no help from him in all that time. Once we had got most of it, a girl appeared then got a mop and suddenly he now had a cleaning cloth. this process took more than 5 minutes and the time staff ignored us cleaning as best we could with just napkins. Once I discovered my favorite flavor combos here, it is hard to resist coming back. I'm a huge chocolate ice cream snob and so at first I relied on my chocolate experiences here, which never match up to my pure, dark chocolate expectation. But then I discovered their original base with other flavors -- I then discovered the magic that is Sub Zero ice cream! Their banana cream pie sensation is delicious. I avoid all artificial fruit dessert flavors, so when I say their banana ice cream is legit: it's legit. They use all natural flavors and you can tell the difference. Can I get an "Amen"?! My other go-to flavors are their lemon poppyseed and strawberry with real strawberries. And I'll never frown upon adding a waffle cone. They also have a new Ube sensation which I recommend you switch out the sprinkles for coconut flakes. read more

Summary- bad experience, rude employee and possible corporate greed... not worth. I went in with my brother to buy ice cream today. It's very hot outside and I felt really dehydrated, so while I was contemplating which ice cream to get I asked the employee (a tan brunette woman with glasses) if I could please have a cup of water. She told me I couldn't get a cup of water, but I could buy a water bottle. I am a broke college student and I was already feeling irresponsible for ordering an ice cream so I was disappointed and decided to go thirsty. I kept looking at the menu while my brother ordered ice cream, and I happened to see a soda fountain behind the counter with a spout for water. Confused, I approached the employee again, explaining my observation and asked if it was store policy not to hand out water. The employee said that there were no more little water cups available, so she could not give me water. Right next to the fountain were paper soda cups.... I left, thirsty, and with a bad taste in my mouth. I felt like this employee had no compassion for my discomfort, despite the fact that both my brother and I went in to buy their products and I approached her twice for help. I ended up deciding not to get the ice cream because of this interaction, and I don't plan to go back. I would suggest a more friendly and compassionate ice cream store for those of you trying to find a cold treat. read more

OK it's literally been years since I've been to sub zero ice cream... And it's not because it wasn't good ice cream... It just wasn't anything super memorable so I never went back. I decided to go on a whim when I was walking around Center, Street with my daughter and thought that she might love to see the liquid nitrogen used to make her ice cream... We got custard base, mixed berries, Oreo. And let me tell you it was pretty dang delicious! My only complaint is that I don't think they use REAL Oreos, and I can taste the difference. read more

I tried this place a few years back and wasn't particularly impressed, but I'm really glad a friend convinced me to give it another shot. First of all, It's just fun to watch them make the ice cream, and I like the amount of variety, not just in flavors, but in ice cream types as well (yogurt, ice cream, custard, etc). I was also really happy to see that they had lemon ice cream (not sorbet), which is a hard flavor to find, but my absolute favorite. Sub Zero has great things going for it: they make ice cream, great and courteous people serving that ice cream, and they have a really nice space for you to enjoy your ice cream in! I enjoyed me Banana Cream Pie Bismuth. Lots of flavor and very smooth texture. Although I'd ask for less whip cream next time as it was a bit overwhelming. Also the medium size was way too much ice cream for me so I'd also drop down to a small. The place itself is really cute and quaint. I walked up the spiral staircase and enjoyed my ice cream in the upper loft. read more

I brought my family in from Australia, they were so excited to try the ice cream. I've seriously never experienced worse service in my life! It took 10 minutes of us just waiting at the counter for someone to help us!She was just standing there mopping the floor and didn't look up to help us. It took 25 minutes just to get our ice cream. Then, the serving sizes were ridiculous, the size small, had more ice cream than a large! So, we ended up paying wayyy too much for what seemed to be kid sizes. Haha! One girl kept leaving to go talk with her high school friends and ignored us! She was giving them free ice cream right in front of us. Then, a bunch of high school boys came in being super rowdy and obviously they knew each other because the girl went and sat down right next to them while there were others still in line! Love this new location! Very hipster, cool feel inside with the wood interior and loft upstairs. I think it's such a unique business idea to use nitrogen to make ice cream. It definitely has a very different texture than normal ice cream, very dense and very thick. Overall I like the ice cream but I think it's more of an experience than an exquisite dessert choice. If you have kids and you haven't been here, I would definitely recommend it for a family night out. It's a fascinating process that your kids will enjoy watching. read more

Let me begin this review by saying that I LOVE Sub Zero and I definitely prefer it over places like Rockwell and Roll it Up. However, I visited Sub Zero twice in the last week and had subpar experiences both times. Saturday evening 3/31: When we arrived there was a line of about 7 people in front of us. Now, Sub Zero isn't the speediest place around because of indecisive customers, but it was more than 35 mins from the time we got in line until we paid. There were only two employees working and neither of them appeared to know what they were doing. They did not have a system in place for who takes orders, freezes, or cashiers, so it quickly became snail-paced chaos. Since it was General Conference weekend the management should have scheduled at least two additional people for the evening shift, especially after the Priesthood session ended. The inefficiency was just awful. I felt bad for everyone who came in after us...the line was out the door by the time we sat down to eat and several patrons ended up leaving to go somewhere else. My ice cream was delicious though, so I couldn't complain too much... Tuesday evening 4/3: This time the store was completely empty when we arrived. There was only one employee (an African-American girl) behind the counter who just stared at us without saying anything. We looked at the menu for a moment and ordered. When she poured the original cream she and I both noticed it's chunky consistency. Since there wasn't a sour taste to the finished ice cream we just attributed it to being partially frozen, but still, it was extremely unappetizing. It took her more than five minutes to put our ingredients into the two bowls and then she moseyed on into the back room, still in complete silence. By this time two other families had come in and were waiting impatiently. When she returned a few minutes later she brought a girl with short blonde hair with her to freeze our ice cream. This employee was also apparently mute. Usually the freezing process can be done quickly, but it took her an eternity. A little bit of Nitrogen...a little stir...dump out the liquid...repeat as slow as humanly possible three or four more times. When she got to mine, I was surprised that she didn't mix the liquid contents of the bowl together before freezing it. This resulted in parts of my ice cream being wet with concentrated chocolate syrup and other parts completely white and unflavored (see photos). It was a really disappointing dessert, and after the entire 20 min ordeal we still never heard either of their voices. It was an extremely awkward experience. On a different note, I was a little surprised at the choice of music playing in the store on both nights. Don't get me wrong -- I love these songs as much as the next guy -- but I was definitely uncomfortable sitting near young children while lyrics like "bitch better have my money" and "devil in the form of a whore" played over the speakers. For being in one of the most conservative and family-friendly cities in the US, I couldn't believe that the store was playing the explicit versions of popular songs. I will still continue to go to Sub Zero in the future, but probably not the Provo Center St location. Their customer service needs some serious improvement and employees could definitely use some extra training. read more

Awesome place for dates. One of our go to places for date night because they'll make any drink you want into ice cream. I've done coke, Dr Pepper, monster energy, vitamin waters, soda from South America, etc. Bottom line is: if the drink tastes good to you, so will the ice cream. Just walk in, give them your soda, then ask for 4-6 oz of soda, 1.5 pumps of cream and 1 pump of custard. Tell them to charge it as a regular and for r the two of you it should only run about $10. Done this tons of times and I love it. Unique date idea. Super fun read more

I never leave bad reviews but this was not a good experience. Honestly it was a very terrible experience. Came in at 8 on a monday night. The manager(keeley) was not only rude to me and my girlfriend but also rude to the girl( Lauren) working. Lauren was nice and trying to accommodate for my girlfriend being vegan, but her manager was really rude and made us feel bad for even asking about their vegan options. Also I ordered a pint of ice cream and they filled the cup not even 3/4 full? Also, I got the mango but it did not taste like anything. I think it's because they didn't put enough flavoring. Sub Zero is always a fun experience no matter which location you go to. The downtown Provo location is the newest and I love it! I've been to other locations, and I like this one best. There is a cool little spiral staircase so that a couple can have a more private time alone, as well as plenty of seating out in the open. I love how Sub Zero allows for customization. I'm trying to watch my sugar intake, and then having a sugar free base is great! There's other bases like custard, vegan, low-fat, and others, so it's great for those with dietary restrictions. There are dozens of flavors to choose from and probably 50 or so mix-in options. You could go every day for a lifetime and never make every conviction that is possible here. read more

We went late at night, the ice cream was really delicious. I got Nutella with gummy bears. My friend got chocolate with Oreo, it was good. We also got a mango lactose-free ice cream, it could've been a little better. It was more like a sorbet but needed to add a little something to make it more sorbet like and evenly frozen. read more
