Stop by here for brunch before my bachelorette squad was leaving San Diego. We came on Monday for memorial Day weekend and it was about a 15 minute wait at around 10 AM which was not bad at all for a party of five. Overall, I would totally recommend this place!! Drove down to La Jolla for a birthday breakfast at my girlfriend's favorite brunch spot and had the best time. We also were able to bring our dog and sit outside enjoying the gorgeous weather. The staff were so kind and brought our dog some treats! I went with one of my favorite breakfast dishes, Chilaquiles. The sauce had a little spice to it and the toppings were so fresh. This was one of the better Chilaquiles that I have had! My girlfriend got the Eggs Benedict which was paired with delicious potatoes and crispy bacon. I grew up in La Jolla, so I've been coming to this shopping center for decades and remember growing up that my mom and all her friends would go to The Cottage across the street, it was always popular with the La Jolla moms. Sugar and Scribe being a new addition to the La Jolla landscape and I am really happy it is here because honestly it is really good and is always a consistently yummy and quick option. I would call it more of an upscale breakfast or brunch spot given that they don't really specialize in dinner and have premium ingredients. Inside is very feminine in design, you will see lots of pink and flowers so it has a very Mother's Day brunch look to it, which I really enjoyed. Reminds me of The Ivy in Los Angeles. We sat in covered seating outside, and the weather was perfect in late November, one of my favorite things about beautiful La Jolla. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. Parking is fairly easy to find in this part of town, we were able to find a spot within the small shopping center the restaurant is located in, otherwise it would be a pay lot or street parking. I have been here a few times before, but this visit I decided to mix up my order. I started off with a Cinnamon Roll Latte and really enjoyed it. The cinnamon flavor was not too strong and overall it was really good. I also ordered their Black Iced Tea and you can tell it is homemade and was very good and refreshing. For my breakfast, I chose the Lobster Benedict and really liked it. I added avocado, which I would also suggest doing. There was a lot of lobster meat on it and the flavors were well balanced, and very good. It's my first time to visit this place on a Sunday. I went with my friends for brunch at 12 noon. Parking was difficult and you have to pay for parking in front of the restaurant. The decor is also really cute and I love how they make the outdoor seating feel part of the theme. As for the food, I always get the lox benedict. The hollandaise sauce is sooo good and it doesn't taste too fishy. The parking lot is a bit small so you may have to park along the streets, and thankfully street parking is in close proximity to the restaurant. For her entrée, she dove into the Crispy Clucker Benedict--southern-fried chicken perched atop a buttermilk biscuit, with poached eggs, fresh arugula, and a BBQ hollandaise that added a smoky tang she couldn't stop raving about. Nikisha went with the Cinnamon Roll Latte, complete with Cinnabon syrup and a cinnamon gummy bear for flair. The service was quick considering there was an event near by and many customers. For two dishes and two drinks plus tip was $80. I wouldn't mind if the quality was better. We ordered pancakes that were neither crispy nor fluffy, and a lobster Benedict that, as shown in the photo below, looked like the food was just thrown onto the plate in a rush. The lobster was rubbery, the eggs were overcooked (not runny like a Benedict should be), and the English muffin was completely soggy. I took one bite of the bread and couldn't continue.
