The eternal Phoenix of the hub city glows ever brightly. For those not in the loop, sugar Browns has been around for years but was closed for a while. The current owners bought the name from the founders and moved it to a better location. This coffee house does a good job of sticking to the tried and true classics that Lubbock loves. While it's not my favorite, it's probably the best place for studying and working. read more

Coming from Houston (to visit the bf), I've had my few shares of great tasting cups of coffee. (which I have not been reviewing) However, this place's cup of latte was extremely underwhelming. I'm assuming their signature latte, Sugar Brown Latte in which they named after their store, tasted nothing like its name but very much like a watered down iced latte with no flavouring at all. Huge disappointment. Because of the reviews, I wanted to try this place out so I really had to beg my boyfriend into letting me come here since it's a distance from his apartment. I really wanted to like this place which I didn't.. And to add on top of that disappointment, this place has serious pest control to do. (flies) I really do not know why people are raving about this place so much. Yeah, the interior and the staff is "super" nice (yeah the guy behind counter hovers over you to make sure you leave tip) and it's a great place to study or chill but I don't think I would come back for the coffee alone. read more

This is my first time at Sugar Browns. It was kind of hard to find a table when I first walked in around 4pm, but other than that it was overall a good experience. My roommate and I asked the male barista, Taylor, what he recommended. He said the sugar brown coffee was really popular, so we both got that (hot). Carly, the female barista, made our drinks and they were so good! It has a weird maple/roasted taste to start off with, but once you get past that, it is quite good. It's not too sweet. Parking is a hassle, so if you can't park along side the building there is a small dirt parking area right next to it that Sugar Brown customers can park in. read more

One of the best coffee locations in town! The coffee doesn't quite compare to some of the locations that you can find in bigger areas. However, for Lubbock this is a coffee spot that you can't miss! There Lattes are great and my favorite is the Sugar Brown. The rest of the lattes are good as well. I can't attest to anything else as I tend to drink Lattes only when I go to Coffee shops. The atmosphere is relaxing and it is a great place to catch up with some friends, study or complete work. Certain days they have live music and those events are equally as fun. Although, it could be a little loud those who may want to study. The baristas are very friendly and any mistake that is made they will quickly correct. During one of my visits my wife and I ordered drinks and one of them came out hot instead of iced like we had asked. They quickly remade the drink and allowed us to keep the hot latte as well (as they should) . Sugar Brown's is hands down my favorite coffee shop in LBK. It's only $4.30 (including tip) for my usual London Fog, which makes for the least amount of wallet guilt possible. The cashiers and baristas are really friendly and helpful if you're having an indecisive day. There's tons of seating inside now that they've revamped it, and the back patio is super cute/great for coffee catch-ups. It's relatively quiet on weekdays so you can get work done there too. 100% on Insta points - what more could you ask for from a study spot with good coffee? My one and only gripe with Sugar Brown's is the parking, like some other people have mentioned. The few spots right next to the building always seem to be full, so you gotta get shady with the street/random back lot parking and pray your car's still there when you get out. As a committed lover of Starbucks, I didn't think a coffee shop would steal my heart especially in the city of Lubbock lol. My friend Janet would always tell me how she liked to visit random coffee shops in Florida and get the house latte. Me being a stubborn person couldn't even fathom anything better than Starbucks *eye roll" she said "bro promise let's just try it". We entered Sugar Brown and we see this cosy coffee shop where all the local "hipsters" would go I immediately felt like home. Lubbock has a strange way of doing that when you find gems like Sugar Brown. I ordered the Sugar Brown latte and Janet got the Mocha latte and we patiently waited for our order the whole time all I could say to Janet is "This better be good" We picked the spot with big blue car next to the globes. My names was called and I was greeted by the prettiest cup of coffee and I immediately took a picture! The first sip was like a hug in a cup literally! This has become our go to study spot and the have happy hour from 2-5pm. Let's just say I'm no longer a regular at Starbucks lol. read more

I do not live in Lubbock and was driving back to Dallas so I needed some coffee for the road. I don't usually drink a lot of coffee from Starbucks, but I do know what I like to get there. We couldn't find a Starbucks and we passed by this little quaint coffee shop so I decided to give it a try. Why not? The place is very charming and there were college students at a few of the tables and adults at others. I went in and didn't see something similar to what I usually get on the menu. The young lady who helped me was very sweet and extremely helpful. I explained to her what I like in my coffee and that I don't like the taste of coffee at all so I normally drown it out with caramel. She listed to me and made a suggestion which I took. The coffee was really good, much better than what I normally receive at Starbucks. If I lived there, this is where I would go every time I was in need of coffee. read more

This place has some of the worst coffee in Lubbock. When I had a cup of coffee here it tasted like something was wrong with it. So I ordered another cup and it was just as bad. Also, they are a coffee shop so they need to have more options than the healthy sugar additives. They need to get a popular one that everyone will enjoy like Splenda. Coming from Seattle, I yearned for a great coffee place that wasn't Starbucks. (Don't get me wrong, I don't share the disdain for Starbucks that most Seattle coffee snobs possess -- it fills a need, and fills it well) Sugar Brown's fills that void and then some. Their beans are tasty. Their brew is pure. Their staff is friendly and knowledgable. They go the extra mile -- where in Seattle a cortado might just come to me as the little drink in its little glass, the staff at Sugar Brown's know to serve it with a soda water "chaser" for palette cleansing and throw in a nice little shortbread cookie for extra measure. The pastries are delightful and made in-house. I had not known the wonder of kolaches before moving to Texas, and I have to say that SB really knocks them out of the park -- the flake sea salt garnish is a nice touch. It can get busy with high school and college students at the expected times, but the energy they bring to the place is kind of nice, to be honest. Really enjoy this place, although their drink menu is small, they are all delicious. My boyfriend got the chai tea with almond milk and it was very flavorful, their london fog is the cheapest in lubbock and the best. Their bathroom is also unisex with stalls so if you care about that, i think its v innovative and respectable for an establishment to do so. Come here for coffee date, studying, or to the various shows they have here that are usually free. read more
